I've definitely been overpaying. I'm moving and realized I do not need the expensive 1 Gig plan I've had. But like you said, they are giving me a hard time to downgrade on the transfer to the new place. For someone living alone, even working from home, 200-300 Mbps is more than enough. My bill will go down in half. Great video! Very informative.

I have had the 1 GB service from Comcast and now have the Verizon 4G LTE Home Service. It is capped at 50 mbps and we have had no issues with the speed. We stream with two Roku Ultra devices, an android box, a music streamer, quite a few devices using the network along with a VOIP setup for a land line. No gaming, but it easily handles the grand kids and their games when they come over. Best part about the Verizon service, it never goes down like Comcast did. It has ran 24/7 since I installed the box, that was well over two years ago. And it is only $50 a month, no contract.

You're not crazy, but you got the wrong units of measurements. Most Internet speeds are in Megabits per second (Mbps). It is extremely unlikely any ISP will sell you a 1000 Gbps connection at the residential level. You probably mean 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps). But if your current internet speed works well for your use cases, that's fine. No need to upgrade.

honestly you can keep jumping back and forth in promotions as long as you read the fine print of the cable providers. Most providers state you can't be put into another promotion after 1 to 2 years after a cancellation of services...at that point your qualified for a reset of your promotion. Essentially you can jump and bounce around from promotion to promotion. Just make sure you read your tos and don't try to sign up to early... you might be put into what they call rack rate, which it at regular price... as someoone who worked in cable briefly use this to your advantage. :)

My work usually consists of the usual email sending and receiving, zoom calls, vpn use and connecting to a SQL server to retrieve data. I don't want to have slow internet for work but I also don't want to overpay if I don't need anything more than 50 MPG.

In Canada a 50mb plan cost 80 dollars and then 20 dollars on top of that for the unlimited data so no data caps. Comes in about 120 dollars after taxes so it’s not cheap here. With DSL we can get plans at 15mb 25mb 50mb 75mb and 150mb if you go fibre you can get 250mb to 3gb and you’ll be paying an arm and a leg for that. Oh and by the way Cable is slower than DSL. Cable is shared with the whole block of homes so at peak hours your internet can slow drastically. DSL is a phone line connection and it is not shared so you’ll never lose your speed but will pay more.

      Hi!
So I will soon be sharing a room in a different state
and one big problem i have is wifi...
I really care about cyber security
and I definitely do not want to use either public wifi or the wifi shared within the apartment...
I do not use... lets say crazy amount of data on my laptop, but it is like being on the internet/web based activity for a long period of time for sure.
Right now, I think I have two options
the first is to get my own wifi plan and rent a router from a reliable company like verizon or google
good part for this plan is that... it probably will be cheaper than a mobile pocket wifi routing machine
the negative side for this plan is that since my device will be staying in the apartment, people staying there can have access to the physicial machine and of they have bad intention they can always do something on the device...
the second is to get a protable wifi pocket machine and a plan... which I have never tried using and am not sure how the plan works...
      If you dont mind
could you recommend me a safe, decently charged, wifi plan that could be a good fit for my situation? I do not need long range or any of the fancy function,
all i need is a wifi that works in my room
      have decent data coverage
and is cybersecurity wise safe and cannot be influenced by other people that i do not grant access to
Thank you so much, and I hope to hear back from you!

What's your actual internet speed? Plug in a computer to your router and run a speed test and compare that with what you are paying for. Based on your use case, I would consider atleast a 150 Mbps connection. What kind of access point did you buy?

Up to 1 Gbps download speeds
Up to 35 Mbps upload speeds
1.25 TB (1280 GB) monthly data included
I am gone from 6am-6pm M-F it’s just me typically using the internet as my room is hardly home either. I basically only use internet for my emails an that’s like many checking once every day for like 10 mins, I’m really only online for like 3-4 hrs maybe less every day. I feel as if I am totally over doing it paying so much. I’m looking to switch to the
    $50 plan
Up to 100 Mbps download speeds
Up to 5 Mbps upload speeds
1.25 TB (1280 GB) monthly data included
I hardly watch any tv at all an only watch RUclips maybe Facebook for like a 2-3 hrs 4 max. That’s including very light use of internet for homework. Should I just downgrade? I’m literally not getting my moneys worth am I?

This definitely gave me some knowledge. I use my neighbors net, they share it. I have a router that is connected to theirs and I get decent ping (1ms) for which I use lan cable connected to my pc and router. I play a lot of games and my download speed is really slow as when I try downloading a 8gb game it takes 2-3 hours and larger file games take an entire day or more than a day. But in the game I get decent ping and no wifi issues. I think my only problem is download speed and this could be because of the shared network and I'm planning to get a new one, I'm not sure which offer to go for but I should probably get a 250mpbs right? It costs 108$ for 250mpbs here and I think it is dsl cable.

That's a pretty good deal. Though, based on your description, you probably aren't really taking advantage of the speed. Emails don't take up much bandwidth usually. By entertainment I assume you mean streaming. That does use more speed than emails but probably not the full speed.

According to what you say, 100 Mbps (cable) would be enough for a family, but what if the whole neighborhood or sector is streaming at the same time?

    • @kevthedev9388
      @kevthedev9388  2 года назад

Now that depends on the durability of the internet service provider network. If everyone is using the internet heavily at the same time, it definitely will reduce the speeds you get, that is true.
However, it’s hard to say if you should pay for more bandwidth. Let’s say you pay for 100, but during periods of heavy neighborhood-use you are only getting 40. Does that mean if you were to pay for 500 that you would see an increase during the heavy period? I’m not sure. That depends on the ISP. Some may increase it proportionately, others may have an absolute limit.

  • @channeldopesrelated

Can someone please share how much on average you pay for the internet service?
And what kind of service and equip they have?
    We pay like $180 (FL) for okayish Wi-Fi in a townhouse (3 TVs, a ps5, 3 phones, 1 laptop)
We have a modem from Comcast xfiinity and apparently it HAS to be connected to a desktop computer (that we don’t even actually use, it’s just there for the Wi-Fi box) and the wall Ethernet cables…?
    This can’t be right?

Very informative thank you! I know this is a few years old, but it was done very well and appreciate everything you mentioned. I have a plan through Xfinity. It's just internet and streaming on my t.v. The internet is 600 mbps the plan says. I am trying to figure out if I am paying too much at $90.00 when i only use the internet for email and looking up info. Sure, other times sending out resumes, a pc game every now and then, and zoom once a week. Seems to be rather pricey. I live in West Seattle so there aren't a lot of options for cable companies here. So, I hope you can answer this. When different companies advertise plans of internet speed are they actually the same or might it be slower?

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 2 года назад +1

Based on the info you gave, it does seem that you have an internet plan much higher than you need. You can get by with even a 50 Mbps connection and you likely won't notice much of an difference except for downloading large games. Pretty much all ISPs advertise their "up to" speeds. In their legal language, they claim you can get "up to" a certain speed, but they can't guarantee you will actually get that speed as there are many factors, some outside of their control.
