Would you feel better if he said "Majority of people". Critical thinking is an important skill we should all aspire to be masterful at. “Ordinary people” would die of happiness with tears on their faces when apple announces the most trivial thing on earth with a price tag of $999, it is clear that he meant that he is not ordinary by preferring a cheaper phone over the more expensive one, i bet “Ordinary people” would be so ashamed when there phone's successor is announced and they buy it not because they need it but just to have the least device available.
Yeah, and to jack up the cost of manufacturing, thus jacking up the price of the phone, while DOWNgrading the usability of it, is just insane, but people fall for it all the time.
Yes this was great, almost as good as your review of the US made soldering station some months ago (which didn’t make the grade). I know I can trust Louis .... a rare commodity on RUclips these days.
I still have my Moto just in case my current S20 tanks. I love that flashlight feature. Hell, people I know who have been upgrading their Samsungs and Apples every year are envious of the feature. Tilting the moto to activate the camera is awesome as well. While I appreciate the power of my s20, the convenience built into the Moto is fantastic.

@@TheRealFobican the problem is you go in knowing it'll fall apart within 2 years off the bat the same with footwear, shit just isn't built with the quality comparable to the price
@@thefirstbushman the quality sure differs a lot from brand to brand. Had a LG 5x for 7 years until it eventually deciced to die and I'm quite amazed at how well it held up despite a major design flaw that makes it boot loop which it did but much later than what happened for the most people who too had the phone break within 1 year only.
I was in phone sales for a pre-paid carrier for over a year and it's so much better for the customer. First of all, the company I worked for based their commissions on accessories and data plans--not on the phones. This meant I was incentivized to find the right phone for the customer. I tend to be a bit more detail oriented and have been a lifetime gamer so specs meant a lot to me. I was constantly testing different phones and comparing them. I had so many customers come in for that new "premium" phone, but when I dig into why they wanted that phone, I find out that they didn't really know most of the time. They just thought that it being new and expensive meant it would be good. There were several times where I could show a customer a few comparable phones (or sometimes even superior) for substantially less money and they would see how affordable/nice it is, so they would sometimes buy an extra as a gift for someone. Some of them got extra accessories, which is cool for me in a small way, but more often they were way more hyped about their experience in store and the phone they ended up getting. One example that really springs to mind is someone who has been an Apple user for a long time. She came in looking for an iphone 7 because she was used to the brand but couldn't afford the new 11. I introduced her to the Moto G Stylus (my current phone, actually), showed her the side-by-side comparison of their specs, demo'd the performance and camera quality differences in real time, showed off some of the other cool Moto features (like the flashlight that Louis was smiling about in this vid), and by the end of it she was ready to give Moto/Android a chance. She saved $150 on her total purchase too. I saw her again two weeks later when she brought her friends in to get their own new phones--the same model she got. As a consumer, it really pays to find the guy who cares about what he does and isn't *just* the salesman. You're also significantly better off avoiding the contract carriers for a huge number of reasons, but this being one of the bigger ones. I made like $10 less on my commission for her buying the Moto instead of the Apple, but when her friends came in to get theirs, I made that back multifold and they were all thrilled with their new devices. Good customer service and sincere interest in their needs is good for everyone--including the business.
Preach it, brother! I used to be a bleeding edge phone guy but eventually, the tech caught up and now you can get 95% of the functionality in a $200 phone. My whole family, me, the wife and three kids, we all have the Moto G Power. Good form factor, not too big, not too small, no stupid curved display, motion controls for the flashlight and camera and power for DAYS. And the camera is not bad at all. I often use it for pics and videos on my channel. Why pay for a "flagship" phone when these are that good?
There is no need to change phones every 3 years any more also. I'm using 6s from 2016 it's on third battery now. Works perfectly fine and it's fast enough for me. I don't take pictures much except docs and of games I play only Simpson's Tapped Out from 2013 so no need for me to have latest hardware...

15:13 No, you don't suck at them. That was a pretty good review for anyone than don't care much about the performance of the CPU or camera or too technical stuff and only wants to know if it's good for a daily use.
Actually, you are an excellent reviewer of consumer products. You concentrate on what is really needed in them, not the flash used to wow the customer.
If you can see phones as tools and not status symbols you can find a quality device that meets the majority of your needs at a fraction of cost of the leading brands.
Exactly. A lot of people I know buy the most expensive device they can afford, and they never need 80% of the power or the features. If you're browsing a couple of social media sites, watching youtube and occasionally taking pictures of your food or your cat or whatever.....you don't need a $1000 phone. I'm doing exactly the same things with my phone that cost me less than 200.....and more, tbh.

I remember when the edge first came out and people predicted the screen touch problem but some were speculating that it was not going to be an issue because they could disable the touch sensitivity in the software towards the edges of the screen so this didn't happen. the problem is when the phone actually came out and this completely was not happening at all. the touch sensitivity was an issue just as you pointed out and just as many had predicted on forums all over the Internet before the phones release. I kind of can't believe this still hasn't been dealt with. I guess they just don't give a crap about it.

Shake light is the best feature. Great when you're stuck somewhere awkward trying to fix something and need some more light. Can't believe its not standard.
As G7 owner I absolutely agree. The range on my Bluetooth head set is great. I can forget my phone upstairs, and still no jitter. The Moto-Actions, shake for flashlight is awesome when you have to go out and have gloves on. No need to take off your glove and unlock the fingerprint. Best thing though was If I broke it or whatever, I have $140 bucks invested in it. It'll hurt my feelings to replace it, but not like it would hurt to have a $700 or more broken item. Before the G7 I gad a G4, and I loved that phone for plain everyday use.

Right not to mention a requisite screen protector gets air gaps along those asinine curved edges. I was sad when LG toed the line but the curve isn't as acute in the G8. More sad about the difficult to replace battery and OLED having a limited life as I hang onto phones forever.
Or just stick with samsng and download good lock as well as edge touch. Edge touch is a function of good lock. Good lock is the overall app. Once both are installed you can assign a dead zon as well as a palm rejection zone. This way you will not be causing yourself grief with holding the phone how you want. It is a must have app for curve display users. This allows you to have the look but not the hassle. And there are no ads nor does it cost anything for these two apps. And its a one and done. Its always active until you tell it not to be anymore. Power downs, restarts, security updates, major up/minor OS updates, good lock updates, edge touch updates. It doesn't matter the settings will remain regardless until you either uninstall it (don't know why you would) or turn it off or reset the areas. Honestly i don't know why these apps aren't more well known at least for samsung users anyways. I say that cause the apps are only on samsung's store and not play store.
On contrary sir, you don't suck in reviews. This was exactly the kind of review I'm looking for, never saw anyone else to show annoying things as good as you did.
Louis: "After this, I imagine, nobody is going to ask me to make another review." Comments: MORE REVIEWS You really need to not underestimate yourself so much, Louis.
This! I thought to myself, finally a review I can relate to. Everyday use is what I care about, not fancy numbers. I switched from years and years of Samsung to Motorola this year and I couldn't be happier. As in the review it's all about practicality. I payed $150 and saved about $500 not getting the Samsung i almost got and my so happy with my Motorola. I do play some games like League of Legends, but the Motorola handles it just fine so even for gaming this is a perfectly good phone. Camera is kinda bad on this one too, but I don't take a lot of pictures so don't care. For anyone looking to save, except people that want a great camera, I really recommend looking at some Motorola phones. I actually prefer using this over my more expensive Samsung (my old Samsung is still more expensive than this!).
There are reviews and there are real world assessments. Yours is the latter, and that's all that really counts anyway. A "review" covers everything the phone can do. An assessment covers what it actually is used for and how well it does that. I don't need 4K video, great game performance, or 5G. So what good would a $1,200 new iPhone do me??
14:10: “I asked about the moto G and they said we don’t have that one on display and I said I didn’t ask if you have any on display, I asked if you had it in stock, then he sigh and he opens the drawer and he gives it to me.” This is the closest of a karen that Louis can get. 😂
I don't get all the Karen hate anyway. More people should stand up for themselves and make a scene now and again. Sometimes the manager does have some answering to do.
I always saw moto phones as incredibly value for money and filled with practical features that people would actually use. i brought the e40 for my dad and he was impressed with the functionality at the price. i saw this video when it was uploaded and a year later i upgraded my own oneplus 5t to the moto g82. no regrets and an actual upgrade in terms of features, and no omissions of expandible storage, headphone jack, fast charger and silicon case included in the box. Really goes to show which company actually cares about its customers.

long time android user. My favorite phones have been the LG G2, Moto G, Moto Z2, and Moto Z3. I bought the 2020 iPhone SE and I have come to love many things about iOS but its not perfect. My main issue with android has been the size of the phones and issues with the camera (at some point, all my android phones had issues with the camera) To me, the iphone se size is perfect. I still have a Verizon galaxy S7 but its super slow and when i play pokemon go it gets super hot, probably from age but the worst about that phone is samsung apps, the galaxy app store keeps showing me ads in the notification screen. Before buying the iphone se i was planning on buying the new Pixel 4a but it was sold out. If I sell the SE, I am probably buying an iphone 12 mini. I can use all the google apps with the iphone so I havent changed the way I use my phone at all. My Moto Z3 its still in use but only for Pokemon go. Moto phones in general have a nice build quality and love the moto actions, its just too big for every day use, prefer the smaller phones.
They are gonna make waterfall display, rollable display, folded display etc. because curve display is old already. Phone manufactures : who cares about user friendly phone when you got curve screen. And it's expensive just to get a replacement compare to a non-curve display repair is expensive that you can even buy a new phone with that replacement display price.

Almost all smartphone reviewers on YT are overrated, review a phone, talk about the specs that everybody already knows about, give opinion -> millions of subs and a fat check every month
Don't forget to mention how nice the photos it takes are, even though every smartphone photo, even from flagships, looks like crap as soon as your view it on a real screen and not a tiny smartphone screen.
exactly my issue with reviewers nowadays. Not to play the "back in my days" card, but back in the days where you had to make a name for yourself you gave honest opinions about real use not just "yup it's a phone here's the specs".
@@mjc0961 yeah that's why I still haven't upgraded my phone, personally the thing that really interest me about "flagship" is the speed and camera, they honest to god just detroy my phone when it comes to speed and quality of the camera, but on the other hand... do they really? The reason I'm still using my CAT S41 is simply because I haven't found a phone that can actually take that much abuse, still function in the freezing condition of Northern Norway, and can still be used to capture pictures, turn on the light, music with thick gloves and mittens. on top of physical buttons, it's the raw battery capacity. not having to recharge your phone constantly is really something I treasure.
The worst part of tech reviewers is how they obsess over very niche features and make it sound like the end of the world. At this point tech reviewers are like critics. The phones are so similar they have to obsess on small details just to survive. It's best just to watch them for entertainment.
@@mjc0961 In all honesty those phones take really nice photos, and unless you wanna print it, it really doesn't matter. When we were buying our phones for our kids we were complaining to the salesman about how fragile phones are. He said we have phones that are really resilient and hard to break but no one wants them. 🤷🏼♂️

@@HappyBeezerStudios Nost people put cases on their phones anyway, nobody cares if the phone is a little thicker ... but for the sake of thinness , phones no longer have removable batteries ... and many phones have killed the headphone jack therefore a lot of mid-ranged phones have kept it
It's probably a flip-chip or interposer issue, with more thermal variance (contraction) than the physical design that some connection somewhere allows for. Edit: cold-bug / faulty battery shuts down. Boot loop sounds more like a chip/connection issue.
Yeah um Canadian here with the S9 (not the plus). It works just fine when I have to take it out during the winter. It mostly stays in my pocket but its never shut down on me randomly.
I've used a Galaxy S8 (with the same curved edge) daily for 2 years. I too let the schmucks pay retail for new ones and stay a few models behind everyone else. A couple observations: The edge problem completely disappears when using a case, and no need for a "special" or expensive one. My thin $15 Spigen will protect it through an apocalypse and I've never had this issue. All phones should have cases on to protect from screen damage anyway, you'd be crazy not to. In fact, the curved edge makes for natural swiping from the side if you like to use the handy little app tray which appears there. Other than that, yes, it's mostly a gimmick but not a concern for regular use with a case. I'm frequently outside in below freezing temps, even down to single digits occasionally in the winter and never had an issue with my S8. Never tried an S9, but that really sucks. Also, I don't believe wind chill applies to inanimate objects since wind cannot cool these past the ambient temperature. Nitpicky, I know ;) I'm sure wind sucks warmth from the phone faster, cooling it more rapidly. I guess I usually have my phone close to my skin somewhere which keeps some warmth input. Was planning on skipping the S9 anyway, but with your cold weather issues I'll skip it for sure. Love the channel, thanks for doing what you do!
Wind chill cares about surface moisture level and exothermic / endothermic, not about animate / inanimate. Phones aren't as wet as human skin, but they are still exothermic, so wind chill will still make a difference.
@@yonkocommander5531 My note 10 cant handle wind chill under 30 degrees. Still not current but like he said, it doesn't matter because the engineering just isn't as dialed in the core areas in the galaxy devices.

@A Google User if any of the popular reviewers cared about "reviewing" the product they would point out flaws that you learn by actually using the damn thing. Not the skin deep 1 week stuff.
A reviewer that reviews every new gadget ever is not to be trusted. Because it's impossible to fully review something if you don't actually use it like a normal person
That was one of the best reviews I've ever heard. Seriously called out all the bs I've been saying about these flagship phones for years. That was very refreshing.
Yes. I buy a phone mostly based upon user experience, I do not suggest phones that I personally think I'll buy, because they will not have the same concerns. I like subtle thickness around the screen to hold onto. I don't like super fast charging wattage. I prefer 18 watt charging wattage. I like the screen to be of quality, and can dim the brightness a lot. And majorly, I love the price to be low. Like, certain required features with proper software... I buy a phone. I won 5 or 6 of those when they released. Motorola had a competition on Instagram in my country. Sence Motorola isn't a big player here they had very few followers. So we used all of my family's Instagram accounts and won 😅. Using one of them this very moment.
I prefer how you reviewed it. I don't really care about the flashiness and the "benchmarks" they brag about. I care about what the device actually does and how it feels in my hand.
I have the G8 Power and like it very much too. (Especially the shake to light function - so useful) The only problem with it is the super shitty camera- It has four lenses in the back and all are various kind of crap. My years-old Xiaomi from 2014 and my Lumia 920 both took better pictures than this. (granted, both higher class phones at time of launch)

That and taking a screenshot by just putting 3 fingers on the screen. I owned both the G6 and the G7 it made me fall in love with motorola phones again
I am totally in aligment with you on this one Louis. Mid-range phones these days are the best. Believe it or not I am happy as can be with my Nokia XR20 (Yes, a Nokia). It is built like a tank, has expandable memory, dual simcard support, it is completely waterproof and yet it still provides a 3.5mm audio jack. Show a flagship that can do all those things.
As an S10 owner I'm with you. I sometimes wonder if they made it so expensive as its the only thing stopping me throwing the thing at the wall in frustration.
I actually don't have a problem on my OnePlus 7 pro, and I have pretty big hands. Guess it depends how you hold it. Edit: just tested now and it ignores touches by the edges of the phone, which is why I have no problems
@@alexatkin I actually dont have this issue on my S10+, but this could be because my phone is so huge that if I hold it in a way that my palm could touch the edge I wouldnt even be able to touch the left side or top at all. This is why I toucht it so my fingers completely contact the rear and the tips reach the lest side. My palm then is in mid air allowing me to have a lot more range with my thumb (which is needed anyway since phones are so big nowadays). But once conductive touch screens get replaced by pressure sensitive screens in the future market this issue would disappear to (unless you really crush your phone like a maniac). But in terms of Samsung I am done. I really like the S10+ but the S20 series and S21 series are the presidents of boringness. Next phone is gonna be some Xiaomi, Oneplus or OPPO flagship (probably - unless something really crazy happens and samsung finally makes an interesting product | but samsung basically removed the S from the S-series over the years - The S-phones actually used to be the fun ones).

Yeah it's terrible, I just want a phone that works where you can call people and with updated apps.
@@enzicoxe I bet we most know what specific brand dominates the two last ones of the category list.
Sounds like a genuinely good experience for those customers lol

but he did focus on the flash :D
But muh b-rolls and benchmarks /s

You really need to not underestimate yourself so much, Louis.

My phone (HTC U11) has a squeeze function that i can bind stuff to, it's the best thing ever when you work on something, have dirty fingers and cant unlock the screen to just be able to squeeze the phone to put the flashlight on. It's the reason i am still using the phone today at 3.5 years old. And I don't understand why other brands haven't copied this feature, although it's probably because the reviewers that will only use it for a couple of hours called it a stupid gimmick...

Most people view pictures on IG, FB, Whatsapp etc, and people won't be able to tell the difference if your photo is shot on an iPhone 12 Pro Max or a 350 bucks Pixel 4a. Yes, there may be some specific scenarios where one is superior, but for the most part they look pretty much identical unless you zoom in and compare side by side (which no one does on a phone anyway).
I got the Pixel 3a and love the functionality especially the battery. People can keep their expensive devices.

I need a review of every new budget phone that comes out now. Nord. Moto Ace. Stylo and K series. Pixels. I think this is your thing now.
plenty of people reading GSMArena spec sheets already on youtube and calling it a ''review'' :)

When we were buying our phones for our kids we were complaining to the salesman about how fragile phones are. He said we have phones that are really resilient and hard to break but no one wants them. 🤷🏼♂️

I've used a Galaxy S8 (with the same curved edge) daily for 2 years. I too let the schmucks pay retail for new ones and stay a few models behind everyone else. A couple observations:
The edge problem completely disappears when using a case, and no need for a "special" or expensive one.
