I remember when my dad finished restoring his 1965 Corvette he took me out on the first drive, and when he pulled onto the highway he put this song on it’s a memory I’ll never forget the sound of the V8 and the sound of Dire Straits one of my all-time favourite moments with my dad

Awesome!
I love seeing Clapton just smiling, having a great time lol. All the good feels.
Yes, it's so awesome seeing them together on stage! Two absolute legends

Damn right!

Yeah buddy
Intro to Money for nothing is one of the damn best guitar riffs ever played...just genius
not one of the best, it is the best by far.
if you think about it, it reminds me very briefly of smoke on the water, except money for nothing is the grandmaster while smoke on the water is the new student.
@@TheBlackfall234 I think it's the other way round dude...
@@mark-wh2qc the smoke on the water riff is simple and easy as fuck.
The money for nothing riff reminds me of i can't get no satisfaction by the stones. Just with a few extra notes.
I love the riff. But smoke on the water is the greatest riff ever written and one of the reasons is because it is so simple. Money for nothing is a fantastic song and the riff is amazing don't get me wrong. But smoke on the water is easily the most recognizable riff ever made alongside back in black by ac/dc
How good are you at playing guitar?

There are not many opening guitar riffs that alone make the crowd go wild. This is one.
Tbh there are a ton of opening riffs that make the crowd go wild
Mian has a point
There kinda is
Which is why I still go to John Mayer concerts because the guy throws up ridiculous intro solos. Hes one of the few in todays era that does it still.

@@coutinhothrash666 Yes. He is absolutely overrated. The best shit he did was with Cream. Rafael Coutinho, are you portuguese? Let me guess, you probably have the most basic portuguese guitarhead taste. Metallica, Pantera, Sepultura, SRV, that kind of shit? Yeah, basic garbage. You probably heard Layla in high school and someone told you Eric Clapton was amazing, and you have just held that opinion since then, without ever questioning it.
Mark is apparently terrific here and I absolutely adore how Eric is simply strumming in his own style like he doesn't care for the world.

as a bassist, this song is also one of my favourites. A beautiful groove underneath that is simple but allows plenty of space for the real hook of the song to come through the guitar parts.
These guys knew how to make music. Absolute legends. There is nothing out there today that would come close to this raw un digitalised music. Never aged.

Enjoy catching up here on RUclips man. None of us could ever get to all the performances like this. Or Prince playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps. But here they are. Its a damned rock time machine!
We all thought that it would never end...
he drops the hottest riff on that crowd and looks cool as ice doing it...such an iconic sound with that half-cocked wah and his finger style playing. I can only explain this as a guitar player: there are heavy riffs like Enter Sandman or Paranoid, and then there are heavy riffs like this. To me, this riff is SO heavy - doesn't need a ton of distortion or a full stack of Marshalls, just some seriously percussive and precise playing. It's like Smoke On The Water on steroids!
One of my favourite riffs, I always say it goes SO HARD, and I'm a big metal fan as well! I'm gonna try to learn it soon and see if I can accomplish the impossible of getting close to the accidental tone setup
Well put
Absolutely. There are some riffs that are innately heavy. Some of the heaviest riffs I have ever heard were from acoustic songs.
I am 80 yrs old. Liked Dire Straits fifty years ago on radio, record, tape, etc. In just the last year I heard their concert versions of Sultans and Money. They are far superior to their old studio recordings. What a band!

What a performance, one of the best riffs of all time. The crowd knew their assignment, the claps on beat less than a line in gave me chills.
It was wild seeing how a riff like that can cause a group of people to immediately get after it in tandem!!
There’s nothing like Dire straits out there ! The music Knopfler created has nothing to compare to it. UNIQUE SOUND UNIQUE VIBES UNIQUE LYRICS .. cause Knopfler is a genius .

Those backup singers singing "I want my MTV" at the end are just amazing!
you got the right
Those aren’t back-up singers. They’re Katie Kissoon and Tessa Niles.
@@timtam6442 I saw Niles and Kissoon with Clapton at the Albert Hall back in the 90s when Knophler played regularly with him. The percussionist is Ray Cooper who has also been with Clapton for years. Clapton often had Andy Fairweather-Low with him as rhythm guitarist. You can hear Kissoon sing a solo on the live version of Wonderful Tonight. This is great rendition of Money for Nothing.
I wonder what happened to all these people. Such as the backup singers, bass player, drummer etc. This was such a marvelous moment in time, Mark and Eric were superb. What a memory! Thank you to each and every one of them for putting their all into it!
Tessa Niles one of the backup singers.....still going strong.
