DISCLAIMER: Normally you would apply toner straight after washing out the bleach on damp hair. The reason I applied to dry hair was because I wanted to make this video for people who have yellow areas of their hair that they want to fix themselves as well. Toner can be applied to damp hair or dry hair. When applied to damp hair it has the ability to spread past where you put it. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your starting point. On wet hair it will help blend evenly, on dry hair you can spot-tone easier. Why did I use 20 vol? Because the Wella t-18 box said to. I will use 10 volume sometimes as well. I would say to use 20 volume when you want to make sure that the yellow will be gone 100% but if I know my hair is a bit damaged I will use 10 volume to not swell the cuticle as much. This will give a less aggressive toning experience with the 10 vol. Both work great! How long to leave the toner on? I always go by sight. Just like cooking, a recipe can say cook on a temp for a certain amount of time but you can take it out of the oven and see that yours isn’t “crispy and golden” or is still pink in the middle of meat lol the longer you leave the toner on the higher the yellow cancellation. Some people like their blonde to have some warmth in it and some (like me) like to aggressively get rid of any yellow and know that over the next wash or two it will warm up a bit and change more to a white blonde. You can check the tone by either rinsing off a small area, or by pulling the excess toner off an area. I leave mine anywhere between 10-30 minutes but never longer. The brightness of your lightened area is how bright it will be once toned. The color is what’s changing with the toner. So if you are trying to tone a dark orange color with this toner, it will not turn blonde. It needs to be a light yellow in order to use this toner. Wella T18 is the best toner I’ve been able to find. I’ve tried other brands including shades eq and Wella t18 is much more effective at cancelling yellow tones. Hope this helps! Xo
Omg ur hair turned out Fabulous!!! 🤩 I've been putting off doing this cause I'm afraid it won't turn out right 😊 After watching this it's gave me courage lol
The main difference between 10 and 20 volume developer is that 20 volume will lift the hair 1-2 levels, as well as deposit the tones that will cancel out your starting base tones (yellow and/or orange.) A 10 volume developer used in toner will mostly just deposit color without much lifting, which is why the results will be more intense than what you get using a 20 volume developer. If you have a bit of residual yellow after bleaching you might want to use 20 volume to get a clean platinum result. If you are wanting that silvery result but still have a bit of yellow to lift, you can use 20 volume developer to get that lift and add the Cooling Violet Additive that Wella makes (050) to your toner to get that result in a single process. Also, I think it's super important to note that if you are wanting to tone your hair between bleachings because it's starting to get too brassy, do not use anything over a 10 volume developer unless you are going to be super, crazy careful not to get any on your virgin regrowth. In fact, even 10 volume developer can be a gamble since it can technically lift up to one level. Getting the toner on your regrowth will lift the hair only slightly, leaving you with "hot roots" that lean very red or orange. It's not a good look. You're better off using a good purple shampoo and/or conditioner consistently for maintenence. The longer you leave it on, the more effective it is. The good thing about purple shampoo is that if you leave it on too long, or your hair is super porous and it leaves a purple cast, you can use regular or better yet clarifying or dandruff shampoo to eliminate the purple asap.
Absolutely stunning! Thank you for this... I already toned with the T18 and Volume 20 developer for 45 minutes after bleaching... I still have some mild yellow patches that are bothering me and I think I am going to try toning again in a week or two after letting my hair "rest," this time I will apply the toner to dry hair. My hair is very healthy and bullet proof so I'm not worried about damage. Your hair is just gorgeous, thank you again!
I have really dark hair and i definitely recommend using no higher than 20 volume, because 30 is just really damaging. Itll take longer but its worth it. Also you should tone with 10 volume because 20 opens the follicles and can actually bring out more yellow while causing unecessary damage.
Does the wella permanent colour used as a toner fade? How much longer does it last compared to demi permanent toners? I am getting my hair done this weekend and would love to get some more info. Also, when should i start using purple shampoo after getting my hair bleached and toned? And should i wait a few days after my hair services before i wash it?
Thank you for being so focused on the task your doing than talking about your personal life etc like so many people do they can be so annoying . Great video !
Thank you!! Its amazing that I can go from YELLOW to such a consistent ashy blonde! And I love that I never have to wait for an appointment to get my hair how I want it! Your hair is so nice too!! xoxo
You should use a level 10 developer with toner. Or better still always follow the manufacturers directions. If your hair isn't in a relatively healthy shape, brushing it while the toner is on your hair it can cause breakage. Also level 10 developer will deposit color, but not lift anymore. Level 20 will lift (lighten) your hair more. If you experience any type of burning, TAKE IT OFF!
I know you said the timing is different for everyone but this video would of been alot more helpful for me at least if you told us how long u left the toner on your roots before you put it on the rest of your hair and then how long you left it on your entire head before rinsing it out.
Usually the boxes say I believe up to 30 mins. For the roots I would leave on for 30 mins and if the rest of your hair is white, I’d leave it on no longer than 10 mins just in case it turns it purple (I’ve made this mistake). I’m not a hair stylist but this is just from my experience with dyeing my hair:) anybody correct me if I’m wrong!!
I’m confused by what you said about the toner & developer level. Why would a 10 vol developer create a more intense (ashy) result than a 20 vol developer? Shouldn’t it be the other way around as 10 vol is weaker?
@@callistalorian2768 she explained it in the video. 10 vol is only going to deposit color on the hair that's why it's more intense. 20 vol opens the cuticle more and lifts as well as toning.
I just want mine use white blonde. Just sitting with a streaking kit on again. I do not like my hair all blonde white, as it's a grown out pixie on top, and I am getting old so I do need to use a toner after 72 hours. Not straight after. It will ruin the hair colour and the hair. So I was told by a hairdresser. ❤ Thank you sweets for explaining this process though. It's so confusing looking up this toning bizzo xxxx
I love your videos! I really admire that you take good care of yourself even though you're a mom of 3. I'm soon to be a mom of 2 and I'm scared 😆. Anw looking forward to more videos from you 😇
Jeez your hair looks extremely healthy still.. here I am with my roots burnt off and I’m like how the heck?! Do you use a treatment on your hair? Welp even if you do, you’ve have got some beauuuuutiful hair!!
I love how your hair turned white on the roots. Will try it myself, thank you very much for your tutorial, I will follow your steps, that colour is amazing, just what I would like to achieve. Could I please ask if I have highlights and have some sections with my natural brown hair, will that be then lighter as well? I have mostly white blonde everywhere only roots are slightly yellow. Thank you.
I love your overall hair color. What did you use/do (before using the Wella T-18 toning) to obtain the beautiful overall platinum blonde color that is the final result.
Yeah usually you’d do it right after bleaching hair (towel dry hair) but I found that putting it on dry hair is more effective. Can be different for everyone ig
Hi. I am light blonde. My stylist normally bleaches my roots then tones. So trying this were im blonde roots are ok right now. Doing just the toner would I need a 10v or 20v
i have the wella t18 and 20 developer and when i apply mine to my head it’s not purple it’s orange? this is on top of freshly bleached hair that’s almost white.
Ugh I’m so jealous- after I bleach my hair the toner burns my scalp 1000x time more then the bleach every has so I can only keep it on for 3-6 minutes. I’ve tried everything, as far as every sensitive scalp developer. As well as coconut oil etc.
30 is more damaging to your hair and lifts 3-4 levels which you don't need after bleaching..They say not to use higher then 20. Your trying to deposit color not lighten that's why a 10v works just doesn't last as long
Isn't it a permanent toner? It's what Wella says on their website. I have extremly bleached hair and any semi permanent toner washes right off like nothing was there. I would really wish to try them out because they're permanent but I'm scared to not mess up my blonde...
Yes you can definitely do that. I have done that in the past and I'm going to try it again now that I have re-bleached my hair this evening. After bleaching and toning it looks miles better than before but I still have some stubborn yellow patches in a couple of spots. I'm going to let my hair take a break for a week or two and then this time I'm going to try something different that she mentioned in the video.... I'm going to apply the toner to dry hair rather than wet hair. I think it makes sense, dry hair will absorb the toner more fully and I'm hopeful that I will get rid of the last of the yellows.
Looks great! Wish I knew that the 10 dev was the cause of the purple. Thanks for that info. I'm now trying to get silver streaks throughout. What toner would you suggest that won't make it muddy? Also, do those caps with holes work for streaks? My hair is quite short...
Great video! I'm a brunette, so in numbers on the "natural hair color chart", I'm a level 2. I highlighted my hair 3 wks ago, and am wondering what is recommended for toning out the orange brassy look I lifted to? I hear that T14 and 050 by wella color charm are the best together. But then some people use the T18 just by itself. Is 050 needed at all?
The 050 is a violet additive to the toner. Many people get away with just using a few cap fulls. The violet mixed with t18 or t14 gives it a bit more of a silver tone, depending on how much you use and at what level your hair is.
I would not recommend it. The toner is so cheap anyway. Don't take a chance that you run out of product halfway through. Make sure you have more than enough. This happened to me tonight when I was toning. I mixed one bottle of toner and then realized I really needed two bottles to get full saturation. Fortunately I had an extra bottle on hand and was able to mix it up quickly. Otherwise I would have had a mess on my hands -- a job half finiished.
Why is it in the line of Wella toners lol. And it's only permanent when mixed with a 20v not 10v and even then it fades in 6to 8 weeks and has to be toned again
Also why when applied would it turn dark purple and then when removed be white because it toned out the yellow in your hair. Main word being toned. Not being a smartass but I hate when people give information or advice that's not right.
😂 that literally made me laugh out loud because it’s completely the case!! Thanks so much for watching and understanding. Going to try to come out with more soon! Anything you’d like to see let me know😊❤️

Hi I have a question?
How long should u wait to do this toner process in ur hair after u just had ur hair done at the salon?
I just use gloved hands to apply. It's really easy that way because I can feel every area.
