This was the gold standard of rally games, and only RBR and Dirt Rally have managed to become this game’s successor in the current era. That speaks volumes to this game’s significance. Though the WRC PS2 games are good as well.
This game is so rich in details that every time you play it is always different; a game ahead of its time; revolutionary and the main; very fun to play and spend hours.
The peugeot 206 is my favorite of the bunch. I play this game regularly, it aged so well. The menus as slick and easy to navigate, and unlike GT2 getting in a race and retrying is really fast.
Loved this game as a kid but it was way too difficult for my 5 year old self at the time. But now I took some time off and finished it on expert difficulty, so much fun!
The only Colin McRae Rally game I ever played was the dirt series. Only 1, 3, Showdown, and Dirt Rally 1.0 but I can't play it on Steam anymore. I would like to try out the old rally games when I have the time. Also I did play a rally game as a kid but I forgot the name of it. I do like the iconic Suburu with the decals I find it to be iconic. Also there's a GBA game called V-Rally 3 that's pretty good game for the console because of the visuals.

I've been wondering why it looks like the first game of the series. Then I realised it's a console version ;P Sure, it's impressive for PS1 and its modest capabilities but let's face it, it looks sad for 1998 standards set by PC 3D accelerators, let alone for 2000s. That aside, it was quite a disappointment for me. I had high hopes after thoroughly enjoying the first entry in the CMR series. 2.0 sure looked great, no doubt about it, rallying in the snow at sunset was really a jawdropping experience. But even though my PC easily exceeded even the recommended system requirements the animation got choppy every now and then. My friend who at the time ran a PC parts shop tried to cheer me up saying that on his brother's, which was even faster, a Pentium III 800 PC with GF2GTS card, it also wasn't perfect and frame rate stutter was still a thing, but it didn't help. The damage was already done and I never played any Colin series games until Dirt Rally of 2015 which, in turn, was, and still is, superb.
Best and I mean THE BEST rally game. I had so many hours on it. Me and my cousin were playing this when we were young. Glad you brought some great nostalgia to me. Also loved peugot 206
I finished the game now and it was ... okey i guess. First of all i cant restart the stages. I can only go into menu and load my save. So i need to race same tracks all over again that i already finished because i cant finish the another one. That was frustrating. The settings for the vehicle does not matter - i was able to finish with Evo UK and my Evo was a mess and i stopped fixing it cause every time when i load my save, it does not save my fixes for the car. Like cmon yo. Same goes for controls, sometimes the game would save them, sometimes when booting up the game i had to do it again. During Italy races when i gently touched some wall i was bounced into trees. Lot of times the physics messed up my race over insanely trivial things. Bushes will slow down the car so much it is absurd. It was a fine experience.
I dont know if this game have somekind of rubberbanding or like the AI is made. But seems very easy in the first half of champioship and then become a nightmare to just finish 3rd.

In Poland this was one of THE racing games, just as GT2 and NFSU2

This ans Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 is my favorite amongst the early rally games before dirt what a classic.

Apart from Gran Turismo 2 and some Ace Combat and CTR, my NegCon never got enough playtime - I should give this game a go for sure!
i've never actually played ace combat with the negcon wth
@@pikminologueraisin2139 Ace Combat with Negcon feels really weird but it's a fun alternative nevertheless :D
I'm more a fan of mobil1 and RBR but this game has indeed a good ps1 port

Best racing game to date!.
My favourite rally game of all time. I recently got it again on PC and I'm having more fun with it than EA Sports WRC.
Well the wheels are most crucial one because wheels take significant amount of damage when you going to drift
Shoutout to BGamer! Saudades...
É uma pena que a BGamer foi se embora
It's a shame that BGamer is no more.

Just don't fall through the Ice of Sweden's second stage or you'll be swimming with Krebs' fish

RIP Celica GT Four
At least it returned in GT3 but alas, its a shame it didn't appear in CMR2, it would've been a better toyota car than the Corolla
Is there any way to still play the PC version today?
Legend game!!!
Why not upload live version ?
Why not upload longplay championship?
what hardware are you using? thanks
i have a ryzen 5 3600
16GB Ram and a RTX 3060
@@MrJohnReviewsthanks I supposed you were using some old hw 😊
This was best rally game at the time
Dude. The PS1 version? Really? The PC version is like a MILLION times better.
I love how many of the sound effects of the game is shared across other Codemasters titles like Micromachines V3, like the tyre squealing.
Gotta try one of those micro machine games someday, also long time no see bro
@@MrJohnReviews MicroMachines V3 literally has a cup called "Rock Hard". I think Fegelein cursed the AI in that last cup

How did you get it to work? I’ve tried every method I can find and windows 10 hates it
Is that intro music from Ed Ed and Eddie?
yes :)

An epic review.
