Unlocking all Rally cars like Mini Cooper, Ford Sierra Rally Cosworth, Lancer Road Car and 1999 FOCUS WRC from all the hard work after finally winning the game in EXPERT level.
I've been playing this game since it came out in 2000. I was 10 at the time. The graphics blew my mind at the time. The headlights actually reflect on the surface of the track when it's wet! As a kid/teen, I never managed to go beyond the novice championship. Been playing it on and off since then. Last playthrough was a few years ago (time flies these days...) and I finally managed to win the expert championship in the Corolla. It was incredibly close, right down to the last stage of the last rally. One of the best gaming experiences I've had, definitely.
A very cool game, even the ost was cool. The menu music felt like something you could hear on your radio. And although i had a hard time with rally mode as a child. I later found out the voices instruction actually made sense (language barrier of speaking another language)
I think that those games were better than today’s driving games, in the sense that you got a reasonable degree of simulation and you could still have fun anyway, no matter your skill level. You could play as an hardcore rally driver or as a more casual gamer, this game fitted both profiles. Today’s driving games, on the other hand, are so much focused on simulation that all the fun is lost. Either you spend 4 hours per days learning all the best driving techniques and set ups for the car, or you just abandon the game after a few days because it is just too hard and boring.
This definitely one of the best racing games for console. It was awesome for its time, the sense of speed and how the car goes in this game is my favorite. The fact that it was meant to be played on a joystick is what made McRae Rally 2.0's level design truly amazing, it fast paced yet needed extra calculations and memory work for all those tight corners that came back-to-back.
This game defined my early 20's a few of us used to sit around smoking weed and playing this every night, taking it in turns on each stage (in next version of the game they took that out!), it was so intense, so much focus, and passing the spliff to the person who was next to try and put them off. So we could chat, mess about, then take a turn.. repeat all night.. At the end of the rally we were all within about 4 seconds of each other.. Such great racing, such good times over this game... /edit, I think im wrong, CM1 had the full rally in take a turn each mode, I think they took it out on this version...
I may have to give this game a go someday, I only ever played CMR 3 and 4 which were great games too. I recently picked up a copy of TOCA 2 for ps1 (1998) and I even though I was never really interested ps1 games as I saw them really dated, I really enjoyed the touring car theme, tracks, and detail like working windshield wipers, commentary ect.
Nice video, a good summary of a wonderful game. While I didn't miss the rally school per se, it did make CMR1 feel more like Colin's game because he was the teacher. Colin's voice, likeness etc wasn't seen in CMR2
Good video man! so cool to see this quality from a small creator! if i might add, perhaps some background music would be good! i'm going to download this game right now because of this video
I got this game from my mother's friend back then. He told me I had to check this game out because the graphics and gameplay were so amazing. He was right! Loved this game, it was certainly better than Pro Rally 2001 which I also had at the time.
I agree. The second one was the best in the series. The first game was really good but the second is on another level. Newcomers just need to practice more because of the addition of various obstacles in the corners of tracks. The third one was a little bit floaty... I loved it back in the day, but never got back to play it again.
One thing that put me off the second game at the time was that i really didnt like the way the Ford Focus rally car looked. I was a full on Subaru fanboy and I just couldn't get on board with the new Ford car that McRae was driving. I know it's silly and I know that the Subaru was still in the second game, but I was a young teenager and that's just how I felt at the time.
Congratulations on the video and content 👏👏👏👏 it was really good 🤘 I finished this game a short time ago, I managed to finish it in expert mode with all gold 💪, but I must say that it really wasn't easy, I posted the last race on my channel
It's a bit stupid desing because you cannot advance in the next series if you cannot qualify in top 6. And the difficulty is so hard even on intermediate for the casual player that basically you cannot continue.
Was he or his family ever held responsible for the kid who didn’t have permission to be in the helicopter and died as a result ? I get your just talking about a video game but let’s get real
Thank you so much for watching! What are your best memories from this Rally Racing Masterpiece? 🎮

Rest in peace Colin McRally.
Its been 17 years since the death of the WRC legend, Colin McRae...😢
Good video!
I'd recommend showing the games in their original 4:3 format and without emulation enhancements to help preserve the history of each game.
Thanks Bob 😁

Many spent countless hours to finally grabbed the win after tons of resets.
Absolute rubbish, play GT7 then come back to me.
The Corsica Rally in CMR2.0 is absolutely relentless regardless of the difficulty level chosen...
Ah, this game was perfect. The control system struck the perfect balance between accessible & challenging
Still playing it today and still my favourite ever racing game

Totally agree! Thanks for watching 😁
FUCK! I loved these games back in the day. Thank you for the nostalgia trip dude! Epic video.
No worries, thanks for watching 😁

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video 😁 I hope playing CMR2 is as good as you remember 😁
Incredible game. Probably hugely influenced my love for motorsports now
I always loved how simplistic this game was
Yep. Unlike EA SPORTS WRC, which is still broken despite it include 30+ km stages and all cars from different era.

such a wonderful review
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Still best rally game for me
I loved this game. we used to play the rallies with my brother.
Amazing content friend! greetings from brazil!
Thanks William 😁🇧🇷
Actually I like this game and finished Rally and Arcade Championship in Expert difficulty using Peugeot 206. Both finished in PS1 and PC.
One thing that put me off the second game at the time was that i really didnt like the way the Ford Focus rally car looked. I was a full on Subaru fanboy and I just couldn't get on board with the new Ford car that McRae was driving. The UK in the game is just like the UK in real life - hell.
Congratulations on the video and content 👏👏👏👏 it was really good 🤘
I finished this game a short time ago, I managed to finish it in expert mode with all gold 💪, but I must say that it really wasn't easy, I posted the last race on my channel
Thanks Goya 😁
That's awesome! I'll give it a look 👌
If you interested, I really want to battle with you on Colin Mcrae Rally 2.0, on Parsec. Because I'm really curious how if it played using parsec.
Seems like AI and players firing fireballs in CMR 2 is like AI firing a missile against the player in NASCAR DIRT TO DAYTONA.
The Best Game in PSP
I also have the video on my channel and finished expert championship longplay using Peugeot 206 as my favorite car.
i think the in part 1 the car handles better.
It's a bit stupid desing because you cannot advance in the next series if you cannot qualify in top 6. And the difficulty is so hard even on intermediate for the casual player that basically you cannot continue.
this gam was good for 2000 while RBR is just 4 years younger and still the perfect rally sim. RBR is a legend, Cmr 2.0 today looks old in every aspect
Looks like ps1 version
It is indeed the PS1 version 😁

Not too sure 🤔
the uk rally is so bad, half of time you cant even see where you need to go
