I remember being a kid and getting home after school when my dad showed me this game, i was obsessed! It kick started my love for not just rally but motorsport and Colin McRae and I'll definitely treasure all my memories of trying to beat my dad on the games but not being able to until many years later haha
The first Colin Mcrae rally game actually included the 1998 cars, since they livery of both the Ford Escort WRC and the Toyota Corolla WRC were from the 1998 season, and yes Mitsubishi did run the Evo 4 shown here, in the early parts of the 1998 season as well, before switching to the new Evo 5 in the 5th round of the championship, in Spain, although their 3rd driver Uwe Nittel kept driving the Evo 4 throughout the season, in 1997 when Mäkinen and Burns were in the then new Evo 4, Nittel was still driving the old Evo 3. Yes i am a late 90:s, early 2000 wrc nerd, i know.
I remember playing this on PC splitscreen with one of my brothers, we had to share the keyboard. Me on arrowkeys, of course being the oldest - and the brother on numpad keys, or sometimes WASD I think. The computer started to bleep bloop at us when there were too many keystrokes simultaneously and intermittently block inputs, causing heated arguments. Ahh, memories. Thanks for the flashback.
CMR1 has the 1998 cars and rosters, so it wasn't out of date! In 1997 Saiz was in a repsol Ford, in CMR1 the Ford's are Blue and Sainz is in the Toyota. Nit picking I know - but I love CMR1 and will defend it to the death!
I played the demo on PS1 back in the day. I finally got the full game on PS1 as I found it for 5 bucks. What is the downside of enabling 60 fps? Why isn’t that the default?
A little earlier before CMR it was great International Rally Championship (1997) made by Magnetic Fields. In 1999 they made another great game - Mobil 1 Rally Championship
As much as I enjoy the modern rally games, I think it’s time we had tongue-in-cheek cheat codes again, even if they are a bit silly. Because it gets non-sports fans interested. Games have to look and feel seriously good, but they need to be fun as well.
I reckon this video is placed on a timeline to get us hyped for rallying to then at the top of hype announce wrc23 and i would love it if that was soon
Our guess would be that it couldn't run perfectly across the board at 60fps, so they would rather have it as a cheat code than the main game. If something goes funny whilst using the cheat code, you can't really blame the game as much! But yes this is a total guess.
I would say that Sega Rally is my first real rally game and after that Colin Mcrae 3 on ps2 was the first actual rally simulator with decent controlls that started to feel like you were handling a real car. Before that the steering and sound was way off and at best arcadey and the sound was monotone fake motor noises.
There used to be a rock at the end of the Greek stage (i think) and if you clipped it just right it launched and barrel rolled you through the finish line landing on 2 wheels!! Mostly though it ended in disaster 🤣🤣 ahh the memories!!
It wasn't just 2 player split screen. Like toca2, you and a mate could link PlayStations and tv's and play full screen each. With the benefit of hindsight, it wasn't particularly cheap or practical, having to both have the same system, game and lugging a massive box style TV of the day around 😅
It's a big shame CMR was the way to go because NetworkQ RAC Rally was clearly the superior choice - Rallying is an endurance sport and only a handful games have ever showed that, God bless Magnetic Fields first and now BigMoon (now called Saber Porto)
Colin McRae 2.0 will always be my favourite due to nostalgia but dirt 2007 I stil play daily still looks gorgeous to this day dirt 3 upwards were meh for me with 5 being awful😂
Unlocking the gold mode after completing the game is still one of my greatest triumphs! However the emulator you have used for screen recording is terrible and does the graphics of the game no justice whatsoever. It would have looked better if you actually fired up your playstation and CRT and recorded the image on a camera. The emulation is so buggy and not a true representation of the game.

Challenging but rewarding pretty much sums it up! Hope you enhoyed the nostalgia trip 🙂
This franchise is one of my absolute favourites of all time. Can’t wait for WRC 23 to come out

Great video.
The cars look surprisingly good still in Colin McRae.
I totally agree, they did a good job back in that day. And that Subaru is always stunning...

sticky keys😂 Glad you enjoyed the nostalgia trip!
Very good game. I spent so many hours playing it. Memories 😢
great video mate one of the first games i have ever played is cmr 2.0 and it was a blast
To me this game was so good it was the original Gran Turismo's off road counterpart.
Banging intro video tune, definitely didn't open & close the game multiple times just to listen to that
Best cr memory for me, winning a special edition copy of Colin mcae 2.0, with a nice box and a keyring. Great games, my favourite driving sim...
CMR 2.0 was my introduction to this franchise and I still play that particular game to this day. It was definitely the best one in my book.
Colin McRae started it, Richard Burns expanded and remade it.
Great video of a great game. I’m playing it on my channel starting on Thursday, not played it in over 20 years so this will be fun 😂
Ah awesome! Will need to check that out 😄
@@TraxionGG I’ll pop a link here when it goes up!
I ever played cmr 2.0 in ps1, and is anyone noticed the co driver voice was different for ps1 us version?
Yes I did too
I can't wait for the new WRC game anymore, when are they gonna announce this game ? 😫😫😫
I played the demo on PS1 back in the day. I finally got the full game on PS1 as I found it for 5 bucks. What is the downside of enabling 60 fps? Why isn’t that the default?
Ah, remember when video games were just fun?. Nowadays, playing GT7 is a chore. We neeed something like this. Loved CMR2

I love that game, can you tell haha.

Well said. Can't forget that although realism is awesome, games have the chance to let you do things that you can't in real life!
I reckon this video is placed on a timeline to get us hyped for rallying to then at the top of hype announce wrc23 and i would love it if that was soon
Fingers crossed! 🙏
If the game can run in 60 fps, why did Codemasters set it to 30 fps?

I used to play Colin McRae rally 3 on the PC as well, loved that game!

Amazing 😂

Things have changed hugely in such a short space of time😂 Good memories though!

When the fuck are EA going to get off their arses and release WRC 23? Everything has gone silent on it's release.
Colin McRae 2.0 will always be my favourite due to nostalgia but dirt 2007 I stil play daily still looks gorgeous to this day dirt 3 upwards were meh for me with 5 being awful😂
