Getting the DLC for RR7 requires jailbreaking your PS3, it's the easiest thing to do but takes hours to set it up properly. Yes, RR7 had DLC before it was taken down (USA wise).
Also you didn't mention Supercruiser in the Music for RR7?! Something is wrong with you! It's the best music in the game! I'm not joking it's so good!

I hope not tbh. I don't want another Ridge Racer that has majority of the content locked behind a DLC paywall like the one on Vita. Also, arcade racing simply is a dying game genre, and Japanese business is known to really hate even a tiny bit of risk for loss. With games like Forza Horizon around, I don't think BN would even bother to compete.

    • @theraiden9631

@@Akira-kd6us Not really. If Ace Combat, Tekken can, then Ridge Racer can. Forza, I doubt it if that’s arcade. Surely the drift is good and almost realistic but not as satisfying as Ridge Racer. RR needs a consistent dev team like Project Aces in Ace Combat to keep the game on track. There was dispute of PA and Bana, but they did build Ace Combat 7 with highest copy sales in series.

I wouldn’t actually count Ridge Racer 8 out completely since Namco is putting older games on the PS Plus service now, apparently trying to test to see if there’s still any interest from players before a legit comeback which it needs. And yes I’ve been wishing for years they would localize the Idolm@ster series. I mean they only fairly recently started putting the music albums on digital platforms worldwide, so maybe these are signs of things to come.

Some important details that could've been included in the video. The catastrophic Ridge Racer Unbounded situation was caused by the fact that the game wasn't even meant to be a Ridge Racer in the the first place. The devs behind RRU, which already had a lot of experience in making great fast-paced action racing games(Bugbear Entertainment) were looking for a publisher for their new unnamed racing game project, that's where Namco comes in and tells them to turn their already almost ready game into a Ridge Racer game. Definitely poor idea to start with and the fact that the devs probably didn't had much time to shift the whole theme of the game into a proper ridge racer ended up in a disaster. It also didn't helped that at that time, other titles were also trying to jump onto "Burnout Paradise" train (Split Second and Blur). It could have been a better release under different title. In the end, it ended up bad for both Namco and Bugbear, which almost went bankrupt.

    • @Enders1

Eventually, I got very acquainted with the controls and beat the game, also unlocking the bonus cars although they gave me a run for my money. And if you wanna talk RR bangers, Move Me, Stream of Lights, and Phantasize were my go tos on that game. I lost it some time ago unfortunately. First RR game for me was Ridge Racer (OG).
Favorite soundtrack is a toss up between RRV and R4. I know a lot of people fanboi over R4 because it's great (Pearl Blue Soul and Move Me...oh la la!) but RRV was so 2000's and an entire jam. Even the Official Bootleg + DVD remixes (I have it, unopened...don't think i'll ever open it lol). RRV is the last soundtrack that's full of bangers. From 6 and beyond, personally, there's good ones here and there but I don't love the entire soundtracks.
Favorite gameplay goes to RRV, then Ridge Racer 7.
Rage Racer was a complete game changer though. For it's gameplay, the opening cinematics, the "story"/prologue, the looks, the car mechanics, and Okubo getting on board added dynamic and a positive change for the series.

the battle system used in R: Racing Evolution an easier version of the one present in Wangan Midnight R. both games required you to keep in close distance with your rivals in order to reduce their health bar, but failure to do so in the latter will reduce your own and result in game over. the former's implementation makes it seem more like a pressure gauge, where filling the meter will make rivals commit mistakes.

I don't play Racing games that much, but Ridge Racer 5 (along with Gran Turismo 2) is still my favorite racing game after all these years. However, it is the only game in the franchise i have played. I'm considering getting RR6 and 7 though.

A lot of the ridge racer team has been working on wangan midnight maximum tune. Maximum tune feels like ridge racer crossed with outrun and it's pretty awesome. I didn't draw the connections until I played the story mode and the first car you race is a red car #76 and then it all clicked...

My first one was Rage racer (a little spin off of Ridge Racer in ps1) Also don't forget that Namco make too the "Wangan Midnight" games but arcade only, at least the closer things of Japan highways that we had was Tokyo Xtreme racer series by genki, and also PROJECT CARS
Sadly that Namco games prefers rpgs (monster hunter) and fighting games like tekken and dragon ball, (at least still have gundam)

I always think of how much of a missed opportunity it was not bringing this back to the Switch. The Switch is in desperate need of a racing game (without karts), and it would sell like hotcakes. The competition of the past has gone. I would at least want for them to test things out with an R4 remake.

IIRC namco abandoned the series due to it not being more commercially viable, a bit like capcom abandoned megaman for a while. we can hope that they'd release a new game which is as good as R4.

I remember my first Ridge Racer was on the PS1. Me and my Dad went everywhere around town and finally found a PS1 to rent from a Blockbuster a few towns over. Got Ridge Racer and Destruction Derby. From there I loved the franchise, the graphics and gameplay were always impressive for their respective times. Its a shame the state its left in though, now the best aspects are locked in purgatory.... right next to Virtua Racing

Have to say, that the Calm OST seems like something that could be in a Gran Turismo game, will say from the looks of it Ridge Racer is really leaning into ''Arcade'' Arcade if that makes sense, not for me but nice to have learned of yet another game. Cheers.

although we had Ridge Racer OSTs releases on Spotify and RUclips from Bandai Namco official Music channel that we can use for streaming, I can give it a plus.
tbh my prediction for possibly next Ridge Racer OST release in a months of June/July would be Ridge Racer 7 and 3D since on Feb/March they released Ridge Racers 1 and 2 PSP games, in April Ridge 6 and Vita.

Namco should do a collection for current Gen systems, pack one containing the Ridge Racer games from PlayStation and N64 with HD upgrade and original mode.
Pack 2, the Playstation 2 game include R Racing and, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. Include all downloadeble content. If they sell well enough make a new Ridge Racer game.

Ridge Racer 7 is probably the only game I have ever tried to beat world records in. There is sooo much to do in the game. Even after the Career mode, there is the extreme events mode and the UFRA Special events (Which can get really difficult). It is and will forever be my favorite racing game. I did dabble amongst Ridge Racer 2 on PSP although I'm still trying to finish up the opus events on it. I will admit, it is very sad to see the series practically dead. Also, the last console version (Not release, I'm pretty sure it stayed on beta) was Ridge Racer Driftopia in 2014 for PC and PS3 (Also not sure if there was an Xbox version of it), but it never left beta. I do understand why most people never really hit it off with Ridge Racer, especially since later versions of the game didn't really have a proper tutorial mode, but the game just feels so smooth and consistent, Heck, it ran at 1080p at 60fps on the PlayStation 3 IN 2006!
Also, regarding Unbounded, it had the same problem as NFS MW 2012, the game was good (Although Unbounded was okay at best), but it was given the wrong name. Just like NFS Most Wanted 2012 should have just been called Burnout Fairhaven or something like that, RR Unbounded should have been given the name of one of the Flatout games. I would probably give Unbound a 5/10 disregarding the name.

It's seems overtime the serie lost his arcade identity for more realistic graphisms, I wish it evolves toward something fun and colorful. Outrun 2006 manage to keep that appeal in comparison.
I still have fun playing RR games from time to time though, I wish for a reborn anyday 😔
