I would attest! I watched and studied PW's golf instruction videos 2 years ago and my golf game totally changed. I went from hitting my 8 iron 135, to now hitting it 150-155. 7 iron from 150, no now hitting it 165-170. I also brought my handicap down to a 9 from a 15. I couldn't understand why my golf buddies could hit the ball a mile. I am now taking divots on every shot, pressing the ball, decreasing the degrees on my clubs and increasing distance. I have been telling others about Paul for the past 2 years and how his golf instruction works. When on the range and hitting pure sounding balls with divots, i love when someone asks me "who taught you how to hit the ball like that?" I will always direct them to Paul Wilson. Thanks Paul!
This could be one of the greatest video golf lessons of all time. Everyone should be super grateful that you're literally just giving his information away completely free of charge, Paul. As I've said before, you're one of the best and most underrated teachers out there and I can't illustrate enough how much I appreciate you putting these lessons up for everyone. Cheers from Australia💙❤💖
Thanks. This is a big one for sure. So many people are way too tight. Get them loose and magically they take divots yet others would insist you need to hit down. I do give a lot away but not everything. Hopefully, people just want to support me. I appreciate it.
Thanks again Paul.I WISH YOU WELL YOU ARE A VERY PASSIONATE TEACHER I CAN TELL YOU REALLY WANT GOLFERS LIKE MYSELF TO DO WELL GREAT STUFF CHEERS JIM FROM SCOTLAND
Just wanted to say thank you for all of these excellent videos that you have provided over many years. Full of wisdom and the explanations are always spot on, you just really have to pay close attention to what you are saying and be patient when you are making changes to habits that have been years in the making. If i ever got lost whilst playing golf i always return to your videos as they are an invaluable source. Thanks again.
You're welcome. Yes, people need to hear me then try it not for 3 balls but a bucket. I just need people to see that they can do it. At that point it is up to them to keep doing it.
Amazing. Literally will save so many people from injuries. Making your back follow the force from your arms is why so many people develop lower back issues. Your arms following you body ensures there is no excess force on your back when swinging
Had a terrible round 2 weeks ago, watched this video and practiced in backyard just swinging without a ball. Played yesterday and shot 38 on front-lowest score ever. Big thanks to you.
Very good. I keep telling people to do the practice swings daily. This is the fastest way to get it. Now you know you can do it. Lets keep doing it ... daily. You cannot take breaks.
I have been trying to fix my impact position/downswing lately. Watched a TON of videos. Finally came across a video from TS that talked about swinging with zero tension, just as a way to learn new movements better. But what it ended up doing was actually getting me to finally make real solid contact for once in my life. Now I've started to add a bit more speed into it slowly. I guess I was gripping way too hard, and just being way too stiff overall. So I can absolutely attest to this video.
If you are turning your arms off you are on the right track. Turn the arms off to turn your body on. Watch this too: ruclips.net/video/EDlwfq_ZBvE/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Q0yC-wIHnZc/видео.html ruclips.net/video/iNKIMiv8jng/видео.html ruclips.net/video/wcCHnsaw2bg/видео.html Tons more on my channel.
Thanks for pointing me to this and the other video on this topic. Took it to the range today and, like you say, I hit loads of fat shots and like you say I felt like giving up, but decided to persevere. After about 70 balls I noticed my swing and connection was feeling more like my driver. Distance started going up and direction was getting more consistent. My confidence was increasing rapidly… and then I ran out of balls and time, can’t wait to get back to the range to see if the progress can continue!
Glad you tried it and stuck with it. You see how if someone hit a few fat shots they would go right back to their old golf swing that doesn't work. This is new and different. You need to keep doing it until you get it. The fat shots are just too much weight on the back foot at impact. Easy to fix. Watch this one: ruclips.net/video/UwynwFBldv4/видео.html
Thanks! I been trying for 2 years when I started golfing to be able to connect all the difficult dots and create what you showed me in a matter of minutes. I was at work and luckily the driving range is less than 10 mins away. I spent my lunch break hitting better than I have ever and the guys were staring at me not cause I’m super hot but because I was hitting balls effortlessly and with each club the distance was on point in relation to my club selection and then some. Thumbs up from numerous people, head nods and smiles as I was walking away and quite a few atta girl. I can’t wait to get out on the course. I was becoming apprehensive when going out cause it seemed like I’ve was going backwards and no improvement and getting worse or having a good day one day the next day embarrassed and paired with a snotty golfer who dismissed me killed any confidence I had. Thanks so much for helping. I wrote everything down you taught me and will review over and over and can not wait until I watch your next video. I know it’s not much i don’t have much but this is a little token of thank you deeply. You taught me fire. MUAH!!!besitos
Thank you so much for your contribution. I truly appreciate it. It is only allowing me to see 3 lines of your comment. Please re-post. So glad you are improving. Such a great feeling when you are hitting good shots and when others start taking notice. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.
It was like you made this video for me. I stopped playing 10 years ago due to back issues and was stuck around a 12 handicap. I just started back and after a trip to the range decided I needed to learn how to take a divot. Searched Google and viola, there you were. One more trip to the range and hitting the ball crisper than ever with a divot. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support. I truly appreciate it. So glad you found me. Not fund playing in pain. If you are you are doing it wrong. I have helped countless people play pain free. If you started taking divots you are turning your arms off so this will put on your way to playing pain free golf. Stay focused. It's about using your body not your arms to power the swing. Let me know if you need help into the future. Great job.
I followed Paul’s video lessons for a few years. Large arc and body-swing w relaxed wrist is what I try to do at every swing. Many people complement me that my swing is smooth but hit very far. I
This helped me a lot but there was one thing i had to figure out on my own to get this to work every time for me and that was making sure my weight was completely on my front foot. Adding your instuctions with proper weight shift is a game changer!
I’ve always been a picker, probably chicken wing my lead arm. I know I’m losing distance because I’m not compressing the ball to the ground. Great vid Paul I’ll give er a try. Thanks buddy, be safe out there!
Glad you liked it. Yes, your arms are way too tight. Wrists too. Work on the grip and wrist hinge: Grip - ruclips.net/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/видео.html Wrist Hinge: ruclips.net/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/видео.html my view: ruclips.net/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/видео.html
I have struggled all my life with shallow divots. I'm going to save this and watch it at the Range. This Channel is Golf School, not RUclips filler content. Thanks You
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. I don't mind shallow divots. Skim the surface. Don't be too deep. The way to tell would be if you can still see the roots of the grass. That would be a good depth. No roots is too deep.
I watch this video repeatedly. By far the best instruction on using irons. I still have a slight chicken wing, even though I can fairly consistently hit the ball flush and as far as I can hit the ball. I am over 70 years old, forget about the accompanying photograph from late 20s. My practice swings are perfect on the other hand. Why I cannot translate the practice the practice swings is still puzzling to me. I am practicing almost every day now. Once I succeed in duplicating the practice swing when hitting the ball, I will continue to practice. I hope that I will continue to hit balls perfectly, more or less. Then I will dare to go out on a golf course, something that I look forward to. From my perspective, playing on a course makes no sense until one's swing is perfect when hitting a ball, because at that point on a course, a player will become frustrated very quickly. Another point is, your sample drives on the Las Vegas course reach 300 years, clearing a pond at 270 yards. Can you attest "on a Bible", let's say, that the distance of the shots is accurate? I can hit drives at best, when hot flush, about 240 to 250 yards, with distance in air perhaps 210 to 230, then the remainder, rolling on the ground. That is with range balls. Perhaps new balls might have someway longer distance, but I doubt that much.
So glad you liked it. Thanks. The chicken wing is common. It's is due to hitting which is tightening your wrists. So be sure to be loosening your wrists with this drill: ruclips.net/video/SfIM2GWj9Cs/видео.html As for the practice swing being different from the real swing this is because you do not have a precise ending point in mind as you swing (point B). With no ending point you are making the ball point B thinking it's over as you hit the ball. I have taught a precise follow position since lesson 1 back in 1991. I don't give it away here but I do hint at it. You need to watch this one: ruclips.net/video/gIp4ifKuZIw/видео.html Then watch this too to understand why: ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html I still fly the ball consistently 280. I'm now almost 57. So yes, I hit the ball the far. Need loose wrists and fire the lower body quickly.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks. Truly excellent presentation across the board. Much appreciated. Of course I recommend your instructions. As noted, the best that I have found. Still not sure on drive distance at range for me. I have not started to play on a course yet until I solve the chicken wing, even though I can fairly consistently hit the ball flush with a slight chicken wing, taking a slight following divot. My best guess on drives hit well is perhaps in 230 to 250 range including 20 yards or so roll. Irons, 110 pitching wedge to probably 200 3 iron when hit flush from grass. 5 iron around 180, 7 iron 160 to 165, all of course when hit perfectly, albeit with some chicken wing. I will solve it soon!
Thanks so much for telling others. I need all the help I can get. Do these 2 drills. As I said the chicken wing is due to tight wrists. I have fixed countless chicken wings in the past. ruclips.net/video/SfIM2GWj9Cs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/hJeAcEYbvhM/видео.html Need to do them in practice swings daily for 30 days.
Glad you liked that one. Thanks. So many people think it is hitting down that creates the divot. If so, why doesn't everyone take divots? Just need to see it differently. Keep at it.
Seriously…thank you Paul. Played golf since I was five…gave it up due to frustration 10 years ago stuck at a 9 or 10 hcp. 2 range sessions and I’m hitting the ball better than I ever have in my life. You have a new customer
Very good. I have taught many people in your situation who took a break and are getting back into it. Anyone in this situation will hit with their arms. This is due to human nature. I talk about it in this tip: ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html Glad you are back. Fun times ahead.
I'm here, because I want to learn and try and do just this. This makes perfect sense. I'll definitely try this. And I know it will work. Thanks for taking the time to teach us amateur golfers and beginners.
That's great. It's about trying something new. Too many people are just trying to hit the ball with their arms which tightens them. This is going to be a totally different feeling so try to get used to it. Once you do, divots are not a problem.
Paul, I must tell you I played today, and used your tips. and they worked great. Club Championship coming up this weekend and we will see what happens. You have given me hope. I am a hi handicapper and it should help me. Swing is a lot smoother. Keep you posted, great videos.
Glad you are doing well. Remember to swing at 50%. Loosen up on the range and DO NOT hit great shots out there as you loosen. Mr. Smooth is what you need to be thinking all weekend. Let me know how you do. Also, if you get in trouble with a bad shot get it back in the fairway. DO NOT try for a miracle shot.
Thanks so much. I just need people to understand it. If you get it then you will see the importance and probably try it. If you try it for more than 3 balls you will want to keep doing it.
Paul...as a swing coach, me thinks you're one on a list of very few pros that I see on YT that are excellent and very helpful to many aspiring golfers, as per their swing methodologies and insights. That said, my wife & I are headed to Vegas in the fall & we're thinking of dropping by just to say, "Hi." Hope you'll be there. If not, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words. I truly appreciate it. Definitely let me know if you are heading this way. I will be starting back the beginning of October. I usually start at 10am for 2-3 hours then hit balls after that. If we are doing a 3 day school I won't be able to meet you as we will be on the back range all day unless you come at lunch. My school dates are on my website: paulwilsongolf.com
I used Paul’s guide to shortening the grip by an inch or two to get a feel of the swing. Instantly better swing. Hit it further and suddenly saw a divot flying out in front of me. Crazy thing was I didn’t feel the divot. Not like a chunk. The club sliced through the ground. Great tips Paul!!!
Wow, that was weird. Just started taking lesson again after 20 years. The instructor said, "is your grip loose?" I said yes, but after watching this video, I did as he said and felt really loose. First shot and I took a divot without thinking about it. Amazing.
..Hey Paul, I discovered your videos just a few weeks ago and they're already having a big effect on my game. Your explanations really clicked about taking the arms out of swing & trying to "Hit" the ball. Fire the legs & hips and the arms naturally follow. At the course today 5 different people including the starter told me "You have a really nice swing! It looks so smooth & easy!" I was bombing my drives & approach shots so much more consistently while not trying so hard. While I'm not "cured" of all my bad habits (yet), working on your drills will have me playing my best golf a lot sooner. Thanks 👍
Glad you found me. Glad you are improving. It's great when you are heading the right direction. It is the opposite to what people think. Glad you got the feeling. Keep at it.
Hi Paul it's Paul again today I had a crowd around Me on The range I was Just swinging easy and hitting the ball off The fence which is about 275 yds, people were saying you are not swinging hard I Told them about you and the body swing I'm 5ft8 and They we're shocked thanks again
Your videos are amazing! Started playing 6 weeks ago, I keep thinking I've "got the body swing" then sadly realising I haven't... until today the video you talk about throwing a ball and that movement of the lower body finally helped it all click. I went to the range today and in the last 15 balls it worked. Taking a divot with each shot used 5 iron then 9 iron and boom still taking a divot. I honestly thought the club had got stuck in the ground until I lifted my head and saw the ball dissappearing straight and long and the club hinged up above my head. It felt bizzare but so good! Not sure if I'll be able to do it next time but I'll give it a go! Thanks Paul your explanations are so clear and easy to understand!
Thanks so much. I love teaching beginners. No bad habits. Just stay focused and don't work on too much. You are building a swing for life. Knowing this stuff now will save years of frustration. Just keep doing daily practice swings working on the moves and positions. This is the fastest way to get it.
Yet more excellent golf tips. I honestly think I have never ever taken any divots in 30 years of golfing. Im already doing spaghetti arms, now I’ll add the jellos arms and I’m hoping to see plenty of those divots in the coming weeks…thanks Paul.
Thanks a million for another great lesson Paul. I can't wait to work on this tomorrow. I've been implementing lots of your tips, and my golf swing has improved 100%. Mostly I've been working on my swing on my office carpet. That repetition has helped tremendously. I've only been able to play once every other week, and my buddy plays twice a week, and he's amazed at how my swing has improved so much. Keep it up I want to watch you grow to a million subscribers. You are by far the best golf trainer on RUclips👍😊
You're welcome. Glad you are doing the swings indoors. Me too. I am probably doing 500 swings a day right now. This is the best way to work on your swing as you are starting to figure out. No ball means no hitting with the arms so you can actually make the changes. Thank you for your support. One day we will get to 1M. I need to post more which I will be doing in the future.
@@paulwilsongolf yes exactly. No ball = no arms and chicken wings. Funny that you use that term, thus I see chicken wings all over the range now LOL 😆😆👍👌 they need Paul Wilson golf
No doubt. They have no clue how to fix it either. To fix it you need to get used to a new feeling of letting it go. Once you do that feeling feels great and doing a chicken wing feels weird.
Just tried this out at the simulator and its the best tip I've gotten from watching hundreds of videos on RUclips. The looser I let my arms , the better and further the shot ended up being. Thanks so much for the tips :) can't wait to try it out tomorrow.
Very good. Such a novel idea. Stop hitting with the arms. Unfortunately, most never will. Here's why: ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html Stay focused and remember to keep them turned off completely. You might want to watch this one too: ruclips.net/video/cNhIyhi136E/видео.html
Mr. Wilson, you do a fantastic job with your instructional videos. Why living/working in Las Vegas however? It is a desert! I am still not quite duplicating your swing or the swing of other professional golfers, but I am very close. When I do a practice swing, it is perfect, but when I stand about the ball, I still do not hit the ball perfectly before taking a divot. My hands are ahead of the ball holding the club and I try to treat my arms are merely connectors to the club, then let the full force of my untwisting body be applied to contact with the ball. Occasionally, it is perfect (I video-record myself), but more often I am slightly off. In any case, excellent instruction!
Glad you like them. Thanks. It's great here. No humidity. No rain. Love it. Hard to teach in the rain. With the ball you are still hitting at the ball. Need to go out and swing 50%. Forget distance. The new swing is new. So you need to do it slowly until you can take it to the course. Everyone always wants to go full speed and hit their best shots. Do the new thing but do it slow and get used to it. No divot is the tell tale sign you are hitting.
Been playing 25 years and have never had a divot in front of the ball. Tried this and was amazed how well the ball would go even with extremely loose arms but still no divot after a 60 ball bucket. Well, a few trenches behind the ball but nothing in front. I'm sure my arm is still chicken winging but I can't seem to stop it. Maybe I'm not keeping my arm loose enough but at a certain point I can't isolate the looseness to my arm and everything falls apart and I start shanking, duffing, pulling, etc.. I still feel this is really good advice so will keep trying but just pointing out that results won't be instantaneous for some of us.
Thanks. I've posted some tips already this year. Go to the channel homepage here: ruclips.net/user/paulwilsongolfvideos Right now our course is browned out from winter and it's freezing. Plus, I have other stuff I am doing. Once the course greens up I will be shooting again. I have a few almost ready that I will be posting shortly.
Paul, I just want to Thank You so much for your videos. I went for a player that would have a bad habit of hitting it fat a couple times per round. Then I say your video with picking up your back foot. CURED!!! Then I working on this drill for a week. Went out and shot my best score of my life 78!! My previous record was 84!!! Your videos dropped me 6 strokes off my game!!! AMAZING!!! GUYS TRY THIS OUT! LISTEN TO PAUL WILSON!!! I’m proof that practicing this routine actually works! Just have to be patient and stick with it! Thanks Paul, I subscribed and share with all my friends! We have ALL improved! Amazing this information is free and he isn’t asking us to go to his website and sign up to pay for this information like other RUclips teachers! Much Love Paul! From Michigan!
Thank you for watching. So glad you tried it and saw the results. The swing and fixing issues is actually super simple. Just need to get to the root of the problem sometimes. Keep up the good work. My assistant moved to Michigan. If you need some one on one let us know.
Dear Paul, thank you for videos, After practicing your tips of relaxing arms everyday for two weeks, I now corrected most of the time terrible slices I had. Now will move to try my first divot this weekend. Reading a bit on golf physics, I found your teachings are very much similar on how a Trebuchet catapult works.! Thanks for your knowledge!
Glad you are trying to relax the arms. This will allow you to take your game to a whole new level as you are starting to see. Just keep getting used to the new feelings and do daily practice swings. This is the fastest way to get it.
I do some online coaching too through my app CoachLink. You can find it in the app or play store. This allows me to work with anyone anywhere in the world. More info here coachlinkapp.com
Great video. I've only been playing about a year and I've watched several videos with no success or improvement. Played with a guy Friday that's also a coach and he said people can tell u to do something but should always tell u why you're doing it. With that being said, I enjoyed the explanations with your tips. Thanks for.the video.
Your teachings are so simple and yet they are incredibly difficult to implement. I don't even know how you can swing a golf club with just your body leaving the arms and hands completely relaxed. How in the world does the club get up and over your shoulders?
You are thinking this is powerless arms on the way back which it is not. It is powerless arms down and through. For the backswing you are coiling and setting the hinge. Once you have trained it to do that it will go up there on its own. Thank you Paul, did not do well in the club championchip not your fault, game is improving need to work at it more, did win a coulple of skins so I got some of my money back. Your tips are great and they work, just need a little more consistency. Thanks for all the good tips.
So interesting.....you sent me here from your vid on hitting up and inside -out.....thanks for that....this puts it into perspective for me as it emphasizes the importance of being loose and hitting with hips and legs. I guess the mistake is hitting the ball rather than swinging to the position which is about 1-2 feet from the ball depending on the club. This is really good stuff and you explain it very clearly . Thanks
Amazing videos Paul! very good explanation, I been improving a lot, since I start watching your videos, thank you so much! your videos are the best ever.
I have been getting people to take divots for year by loosening them up. Problem is people don't want to let go. They want control. If you turned your arms completely off though would you not have to use your body for power? Power it with your body and you are doing what pros do.
A very very important thing to make this happen that a lot of people have a hard time doing is KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN all the way through impact and into your follow through. That takes a lot of discipline to do that because we all want to see where the ball goes. But we have to believe that if we just keep our down, the ball will in fact go where we want it to go. And staying down will allow the divot to happen too.
For sure. You need to watch what you are hitting. Come out of it and you will never take divots. I just did this one the other day. Give it a watch: ruclips.net/video/vZ4jKpIscJU/видео.html
What he’s saying is absolutely true- I live 5 minutes from Bears Best, I’d give anything to take a lesson from him but in this economy I can’t afford it 😢
It sure is. Well, if you are that close by at least come out and say hi. Maybe I'll take a quick look at you. Go to my site and contact me. I'll let you know when I am out there. Schedule is on and off for the next couple of weeks. I will be out there shooting tips. Maybe you can be in one? Let me know.
I was playing 18 holes of golf a little while ago and a few times I took a divot, the ball traveled much better. The problem I have is too much practice on these mats they have at the driving range are too hard, no good for irons in my opinion, and also here in this apartment one can only swing and barely scrape the floor, you can hear a fart a mile away, and so taking a divot outside for me has not been programmed in my memory banks to do such a thing:) Now, as of 2hrs ago I'm officially retired, I'm going to work my way down to China, that's my new job, when I climb out I'll be swinging like a batter outta hell, well a least hot out of the oven:) These tips are coming in handy more and more, Doc Wilson is my Tip Teacher, number one that is. Man you are great help.
I can see you point. As you get to a better place where you can take divots then allow them to happen. Not super deep. Just enough that you get the compression. Thanks for the support. I appreciate it.
Thanks. You had some serious issues. They are due to hitting with the arms. Need loose wrists and use the body for power. Sounds like you are on track now and getting. Loosen up the wrists. That is the key to getting rid of the chicken wing.
Glad you like them. Thanks so much. Simple is the key. I have been teaching this way since lesson 1. If you don't understand it, why would you do it? If I can keep it simple and you get some fast results you will know you can do it and want to do it. It's all about the student.
I almost never take a divot and have tried many ways to do so. Can’t wait to see if this works. Loose and watch out for the chicken wing will be my focus.
I saw your video last night and considering the comments, I am an outlier I guess. I'm a 7 handicapper and while my arms are relaxed when I hit, I have a very deliberate stiff left arm to create a consistent swing plane and try to keep my right elbow close to my body at contact to keep from pulling. On shorter shots, to create spin, my swing is even more deliberate, not loosy goosy. I think your video might be aimed at mid-high handicaps to keep them from being tense which isn't a bad swing thought. Maybe I am already doing that but as one plays more, the less I think about, the more instinctive and the better I play.
Well the great majority of golfers I teach are older but this is not to say I don't have scratch and plus hdcps working on my technique too. At a 7 your doing better than the great majority of golfers out there. Sounds like you are doing your own thing so keep doing it. If you find you want to try my stuff in the future then come back.
Started on hole 4 today, nice lush fairways. Hit a lovely divot iron a la this video. The next 17 holes had dirt fairways burnt to a crisp. I kept hitting nice looking divots but the ball-flight felt...slippery. Is it still possible to use this kind of ballstriking pattern on burnt-out fairways? PS. worked from the rough several times and from the driving range grass which was nice and soft, so I believe in the principles, just wondering if I need a better venue to practice on or, could it be that perfecting divot shots on turf like this will make me even more solid on soft fairways?
Well, you need some grass. If I had a bare lie I would hitting knock down/punch shots all day. Those tight lies are tricky so playing it back makes it easier. ruclips.net/video/NeY3UjiN_Ts/видео.html Give that shot a try. You should have this shot in your bag anyway as it is such an advantage in windy conditions as well as bare lies. When you have a half decent like with come grass then do your normal shot.
Paul thanks for the tip to relax the arms and therefore unhinged the rest and lengthen the the arms which unhinges the wrist saguto talks about this unhinging the risk as well thanks for the wonderful tip your good teacher
Glad you liked it. Got to have loose wrists to allow them to hinge and rehinge. Just see them as a hinge not hands and wrists. Then ask yourself how a hinge would work then apply this feeling as you hit shots.
I love the idea of being loose and seeing how you have a clean loose swing. But, it's so incredibly hard to let go of that muscle memory and not tense up.
Well, it's really human nature telling you to hit the object sitting in front of you so you have to overcome that. You do this by swinging at 50% for a while and changing how you think. If you keep thinking of the same things why would anything change? ruclips.net/video/FV8uSZ16Bys/видео.html Keep watching my other tips. Everything I teach is based on the same technique. Do this drill until mastered: ruclips.net/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/видео.html Once you can do it you switch to lower body to increase power. Work on this too: ruclips.net/video/hJeAcEYbvhM/видео.html
@@paulwilsongolf alright, so I watched your other videos and practiced swinging at the net. Went and played 9 holes and that was some of the best golf I've played this season. 50% swing was easily the best thing for me at the moment. As soon as I stopped trying to hit the ball and focused more on the flow of my lower body things got a lot looser and more consistent. Thank you
Very good. Why would you ever want to swing harder right now? Just stick to this level until you are good at it. You can fire the lower harder in the future for more. Watch this: ruclips.net/video/utFggMFjtng/видео.html Keep at it.
My only input as a RUclips commenter is that if you're trying to take a divot you've already lost the battle. I feel like it should be a result of a good swing. It's not something I think about at all when I'm hitting but people are always commenting about these beautiful beaver tails I'm flinging out after a shot.
Well, the divot occurs due to the right fundamentals. So yes, you are not trying to take one. Turn the arms off and use your body. If so, divots will occur.
Got to be a reason people don't take divots and why it is your average to poorer golfer. So over 30 years of loosening people up and they start taking divots that is most likely the answer. Stay loose and you will get them.
I'm a new golfer and have been finding this channel to be very informative. Quick question for anyone for knowledgeable, should my lead arm ever bend during a typical iron or driver shot, or is it always straight throughout the whole swing?
@paulwilsongolf love all your vids. They are so good. I have a question/observation: Not once(yet)have I heard you say "Keep your left arm straight" and "Keep you head down"! I notice watching you swing that you actually do bend your left arm slightly in your back swing. Does your philosophy of keeping the arms relaxed(like Jell-O) negate the straight left arm or modify this thought in some way?
I did a tip on this here: ruclips.net/video/1TiT0C8XF2U/видео.html I have done numerous tips on keeping the head down. If you try to hit the ball hard with the arms it's human nature to look to see what you hit. I am not hitting anything so I have no reason to look early. So turn the arms off.
I literally felt this today by accident trying to make sure I’m rotating. And I finally stopped hitting before the ball. It felt weird but so right and when I connected with the ball it went flying with the wind sizzling off of it for the first time. I get to play tomorrow and will try to focus on being loose and see how I do.
@@paulwilsongolf well it worked in practice and I went on the course and my body decided to stop letting me hit a driver and I was topping every ball. But just a matter of practice I think.
Keep practicing it. On the course you were looking to see how amazing you thought you were going to hit it. When playing swing no more than 50% for a while.
It sure is. I explain it in this tip: ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html Need to master this drill. I call it taming the wild stallion: ruclips.net/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/видео.html
Been golfing for over 20 years and have never consistently taken divots. Looking fwd to trying this out. Question, will this also assist with follow throw, as I've been flipping since day 1 as i learned to hit on mats, and ingrained horrible habits.
Well, you are hitting with arms. Need to turn them off completely and use your body to power the swing. If so you will move the widest point of your arc ahead of the ball. Thanks 👍 Time on my hands right now so I figured it's time to start making people play great golf. Obviously, they still need help. So as I got back to posting the channel is taking off so it's getting exciting. Thanks for your support.
Hi Paul thank you for the great lessons,I won My family Golf tournament with a 79 at Montebello country club...But I have a question about hitting ball's on Mat's, my Golf course Monterey park Golf course have Mat's is This okay..thank you again.
Been watching your fantastic videos and they really help! I'm thinking about buying the Swing Caddie SC4 Launch Monitor that includes 10 lessons by you sent to my email. Is there a way I can tell if I would be taking a divot if I use the launch monitor and hitting mat? I want a way I can use you tips in inclement weather.
Glad you like them. Thanks. I have a discount code for the SC4. Scroll down the page here: www.paulwilsongolf.com/site/products No real way to tell if you are taking a divot with a launch monitor. You would be able to tell pure contact by the sound and distance and consistency of your shots. I really never care if I am hitting off a mat or not. Doesn't bother me. You hit the ball first anyway. So just keep building the swing and you will get the properly contact.
This guy has a way of talking that when his videos are at the end it gets you pumped
Thanks. Got to get excited. Some of this stuff is so simple anyone can do it so they should be excited too!
So true.
Luckily he doesn't review products otherwise I'll be broke!
Very good. Thanks so much for telling your story. I love hearing it. Now let's get you to the mid 70's. With distance this is certainly doable.
He is a great teacher
Just wanted to say thank you for all of these excellent videos that you have provided over many years. Full of wisdom and the explanations are always spot on, you just really have to pay close attention to what you are saying and be patient when you are making changes to habits that have been years in the making. If i ever got lost whilst playing golf i always return to your videos as they are an invaluable source. Thanks again.
You're welcome. Yes, people need to hear me then try it not for 3 balls but a bucket. I just need people to see that they can do it. At that point it is up to them to keep doing it.
BEST instructor i have encountered, coil/uncoil with loose arms is my only swing thought , thanks Paul!
Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Keep it simple.
Amazing. Literally will save so many people from injuries. Making your back follow the force from your arms is why so many people develop lower back issues. Your arms following you body ensures there is no excess force on your back when swinging
Yes, hitting with the arms is the main cause of back issues. Turn them off and use the legs and hips and you have a lifetime of pain free golf.
Watch this too:

After this one video I’m taking divots, hitting the ball straight and far and with such a relaxed swing. Thanks so much for the tip 🙏🏻
Very good. Glad to help.
That's great. When people compliment you that's when you know you have a great swing for sure. It's a great feeling when they do. Glad you got it.
This helped me a lot but there was one thing i had to figure out on my own to get this to work every time for me and that was making sure my weight was completely on my front foot. Adding your instuctions with proper weight shift is a game changer!
Well weight shift is a big part of using the mower body. Glad you figured it out. Keep at it.
Wrists too. Work on the grip and wrist hinge:

I have struggled all my life with shallow divots. I'm going to save this and watch it at the Range. This Channel is Golf School, not RUclips filler content. Thanks You
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. I don't mind shallow divots. Skim the surface. Don't be too deep. The way to tell would be if you can still see the roots of the grass. That would be a good depth. No roots is too deep.
Great library of videos for everyone who likes to golf. Keep posting new stuff. hope all is well. Maybe edit some of your older vids and make shorts.
Taking a break
So be sure to be loosening your wrists with this drill:
ruclips.net/video/SfIM2GWj9Cs/видео.html
As for the practice swing being different from the real swing this is because you do not have a precise ending point in mind as you swing (point B). With no ending point you are making the ball point B thinking it's over as you hit the ball. I have taught a precise follow position since lesson 1 back in 1991. I don't give it away here but I do hint at it. You need to watch this one:
ruclips.net/video/gIp4ifKuZIw/видео.html
Then watch this too to understand why:
ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html
I still fly the ball consistently 280.

Need to do them in practice swings daily for 30 days.
Love the way you explain this divot. Never thought of it as an oval shot and not a round shot 😊
Glad you liked that one. Thanks. So many people think it is hitting down that creates the divot. If so, why doesn't everyone take divots? Just need to see it differently. Keep at it.
Great advice! Where have you been all my golfing life? Can’t wait to try this.
Happy to help!
I talk about it in this tip:
ruclips.net/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/видео.html
Glad you are back.
Paul, you explain it better than any teaching pro I have ever seen. The nice thing is - it works just like you say it will. You're the best!
@@paulwilsongolf Great...yeah we'd love to meet you as we'll be out there 10/17 thru 10/23. I'll visit your website & thx for the response! 👍👍
Great. If I have a lesson I will be out there typically 10am. Maybe email us to confirm.
Nice one. So glad you are trying it and seeing results. The divot is a good feeling. Definitely starting to loosen your arms. Keep at it.
I have tried all the things you mentioned, hitting down, hitting toward the imaginary line. I can't wait to try this. Subscribed! 👍
Very good. Loosen up and you will get divots.
Thanks Paul you make perfect sense as usall , wish you all the best courtney
You're very welcome. Loosen up.
Wow, that was weird. Just started taking lesson again after 20 years. The instructor said, "is your grip loose?" I said yes, but after watching this video, I did as he said and felt really loose. First shot and I took a divot without thinking about it. Amazing.
Great that you got divots but I want loose arms not loose grip. Watch this too:

..Hey Paul, I discovered your videos just a few weeks ago and they're already having a big effect on my game.
Keep at it.
This is indeed a very important golf lesson, well explained, and gives confidence, thx so much !! (greetings from Belgium)
Glad you liked it! Thanks so much.
Hi Paul it's Paul again today I had a crowd around Me on The range I was Just swinging easy and hitting the ball off The fence which is about 275 yds, people were saying you are not swinging hard I Told them about you and the body swing I'm 5ft8 and They we're shocked thanks again
Fantastic. Got to love when the crowd starts gathering. Thanks for the promo. I appreciate it. You are da man for sure.
Dang, glad I found you. Your tips, frequently involving the correct use of the lower body, has helped me a great deal. Thank you.
Glad you found me too. Now we can get you playing great golf.
Glad you like them. Thanks. Well you need to fire the lower body to get the tilt. Get that and you get the divot. Shallow not deep ones.
Follow up. I followed your advice and struck my irons much better today. Thank you🌴👍
Great to hear! You've got this.
Beautifully explained 👏👏👍 thanks
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
Relaxing your arms is a great advice...not only for divot.Relaxing my arms help me to hit the sweet spot and be more accuracy!

wow Paul !! The best explanation about divot !!
Thanks so much. Get the fundamentals you get the divot.
Here's why:

So jealous that you have access to a simulator… Best wishes.
This video was a genuine breakthrough moment for me. Thanks !
Very good. I call this a light bulb moment. Great when you get them. Takes your game to a whole new level.
Yep, you are still too tight. Loosen more and fire the lower body to hit it instead of any arms. You can do it.
Paul love your simple instruction..?when are we getting 2022 advice on the game
Thanks. I've posted some tips already this year. Go to the channel homepage here: ruclips.net/user/paulwilsongolfvideos
Right now our course is browned out from winter and it's freezing.
Great tip, I can feel it when I do it. Thanks, your right on the money.
Glad you liked it. Thanks. See how you do. It's so much looser than people think.
Played today and shot 38 on the front 9. Every tip seems to make a positive difference. Thanks 🙏 Paul.
Great. You are getting it.
Great instruction! Thanks
You're welcome!
Great video thank you Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
I enjoyed this video. I especially appreciate your tone and presentation style. You sound a little like Moe Norman. Thanks
Thanks so much. There already is a little Moe but I see what you are saying. He said it like it is. Met him many times in the past.
Impressed by what you teach and show. Trying to follow. Hope will get it one day.
Thanks. Just keep it simple and don't work on too much at once.
As someone who's always been a 'picker' I need to work on this to get to the next level in my game. Great info as per usual Paul. 👍🏻
You can do it! You are telling me your arms are too tight. Stay loose.
Wish I was in USA to have a lesson with you. You are great not to talk too much & get on with it
I do some online coaching too through my app CoachLink. You can find it in the app or play store. This allows me to work with anyone anywhere in the world. More info here coachlinkapp.com
thank you this is the best golf instructor 👍👍🙏🙏
You are very welcome
Great video. I've only been playing about a year and I've watched several videos with no success or improvement. Played with a guy Friday that's also a coach and he said people can tell u to do something but should always tell u why you're doing it. With that being said, I enjoyed the explanations with your tips. Thanks for.the video.
Exactly. If you don't understand "why" then why would you do it. You need the whole picture. Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Watch:

Thank you Paul, did not do well in the club championchip not your fault, game is improving need to work at it more, did win a coulple of skins so I got some of my money back. Your tips are great and they work, just need a little more consistency. Thanks for all the good tips.
That's too bad. Changes are just too new for tournaments. Do daily practice swings at home. You will be ready for the next one.
Thanks Paul will do this. A disaster area for me recently. Many thanks .
Definitely. Divots tell you that you are getting the fundamentals. Stay loose.
Thanks
Yes, you should watch numerous tips of mine to truly understand the concept. Glad you saw that one.
Amazing videos Paul! very good explanation, I been improving a lot, since I start watching your videos, thank you so much!
your videos are the best ever.
Great to hear! So glad you are improving. Thanks for the support.
Can't Wait to give this a try
Give it a watch:

i tell all my mates about your vdeos. thank you. LONDON
Awesome, thank you! I need all the help I can get. I was born in England. My cousin who is a great player lives in London.

Thanks Paul.
This is great.
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Excellent video didn’t know I was chicken winging my left arm and was staying flat on my left foot at impact. Your a big help love your instructions
Thanks. You had some serious issues. They are due to hitting with the arms. Need loose wrists and use the body for power. Sounds like you are on track now and getting. Loosen up the wrists. That is the key to getting rid of the chicken wing.
@@paulwilsongolf I mean right foot , yes played today much better results especially with drive. Thanks for the video keep it up.
Love your videos it really helps my game, the way you explain everything makes it so much easier to sink in .. a bug thank you
Glad you like them. Thanks so much. Simple is the key. I have been teaching this way since lesson 1. If you don't understand it, why would you do it? If I can keep it simple and you get some fast results you will know you can do it and want to do it. It's all about the student.
Very nicely explained
Thank you
You are most welcome
Good idea!
Glad you see it. Stay focused. Anyone can take divots if they know what to do.
Sounds like someone has a case of the literallys. Great vidz!
It's the pressure of the moment. Glad you like them.
Amazing, worked like a charm
Great to hear!
Great explanation. Look forward to trying it.
Have fun!
Wonderful Paul
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
This dude is the BEST!
Thank you.
I almost never take a divot and have tried many ways to do so. Can’t wait to see if this works. Loose and watch out for the chicken wing will be my focus.
For sure. Turn the arms off completely. Feels weird but you will get used to it. Do daily practice swings.
Another awesome lesson. You are incredible!
Thank you so much.
Love it! Thank you !
Glad you love it. Loosen up. You will know you are loose enough once you take divots. You'll see.
Those tight lies are tricky so playing it back makes it easier.
ruclips.net/video/NeY3UjiN_Ts/видео.html
Give that shot a try. You should have this shot in your bag anyway as it is such an advantage in windy conditions as well as bare lies. When you have a half decent like with come grass then do your normal shot.
Everything you said in this video applies to me. No divot, very high ball, no distance at all. My 7 iron goes 140 if I strike it well
Well you have a little work to do. Got to get those arms loosened up. Keep watching my other tips so you get a feel for what I teach.
If you keep thinking of the same things why would anything change?
ruclips.net/video/FV8uSZ16Bys/видео.html
Keep watching my other tips. Everything I teach is based on the same technique. Do this drill until mastered:
ruclips.net/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/видео.html
Once you can do it you switch to lower body to increase power.
Work on this too:
ruclips.net/video/hJeAcEYbvhM/видео.html
@@paulwilsongolf alright, so I watched your other videos and practiced swinging at the net. Went and played 9 holes and that was some of the best golf I've played this season. 50% swing was easily the best thing for me at the moment. As soon as I stopped trying to hit the ball and focused more on the flow of my lower body things got a lot looser and more consistent. Thank you
Very good. Why would you ever want to swing harder right now? Just stick to this level until you are good at it. You can fire the lower harder in the future for more. Watch this:
ruclips.net/video/utFggMFjtng/видео.html
Keep at it.
My only input as a RUclips commenter is that if you're trying to take a divot you've already lost the battle. I feel like it should be a result of a good swing. It's not something I think about at all when I'm hitting but people are always commenting about these beautiful beaver tails I'm flinging out after a shot.
Also tiger woods just said he doesn't take divots when he's hitting it flush 😂
Well, the divot occurs due to the right fundamentals. So yes, you are not trying to take one. Turn the arms off and use your body. If so, divots will occur.
awesome explanation
Got to be a reason people don't take divots and why it is your average to poorer golfer. So over 30 years of loosening people up and they start taking divots that is most likely the answer. Stay loose and you will get them.
I'm a new golfer and have been finding this channel to be very informative. Quick question for anyone for knowledgeable, should my lead arm ever bend during a typical iron or driver shot, or is it always straight throughout the whole swing?
I recently did a tip on this very thing. Here it is:
ruclips.net/video/1TiT0C8XF2U/видео.html
I’m gonna go see this guy in Vegas!
Look me up.
I did a tip on this here:
ruclips.net/video/1TiT0C8XF2U/видео.html
I have done numerous tips on keeping the head down.
Very good. It's great when you have a breakthrough. See how it goes.
@@paulwilsongolf yeah I knew that too based on another of your videos. Funny how hard it is to swing easy.
It sure is. I explain it in this tip:

Need to master this drill. I call it taming the wild stallion:
ruclips.net/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/видео.html
Been golfing for over 20 years and have never consistently taken divots. Looking fwd to trying this out. Question, will this also assist with follow throw, as I've been flipping since day 1 as i learned to hit on mats, and ingrained horrible habits.
Well, you are hitting with arms. Need to turn them off completely and use your body to power the swing. If so you will move the widest point of your arc ahead of the ball. Watch:

I have your Swing Machine book from years ago.
Very good. The pages should be worn out by now from you reading it a million times. The answers are in that book.
So many players never take a divot. Great to know why. Congrats on 108 K subscribers. Your channel is really growing and helping so many. Thank you!!
Thanks 👍 Time on my hands right now so I figured it's time to start making people play great golf. Obviously, they still need help. So as I got back to posting the channel is taking off so it's getting exciting. Thanks for your support.
Hi Paul what about hitting off mat's most golf courses don't Let you Hit off grass.how would you do on mats??
Work on the fundamentals. The better the fundamentals the less you care about mats. Tee it up a little if you can.
Hi Paul thank you for the great lessons,I won My family Golf tournament with a 79 at Montebello country club...But I have a question about hitting ball's on Mat's, my Golf course Monterey park Golf course have Mat's is This okay..thank you again.
Nice one. Great feeling when you win!
Does this produce shaft lean and compression of the golf ball all others talk about?
ruclips.net/video/RM4OX3m2-90/видео.html It would because you would be using your body not your arms to hit the ball.
that's a new term.... out of control loose... I've tried this on the driver and it was a game changer...
It sure is. Glad you tried it. Now you will never forget it.
Scroll down the page here: www.paulwilsongolf.com/site/products
No real way to tell if you are taking a divot with a launch monitor. You would be able to tell pure contact by the sound and distance and consistency of your shots. I really never care if I am hitting off a mat or not. Doesn't bother me. You hit the ball first anyway. So just keep building the swing and you will get the properly contact.
Thanks so much
You're welcome!
