Particularly loved the slow-motion demonstration of your punch shot. It clearly demonstrates that your hands returned to the same position as at address. I'll work on this Friday morning (we've got a bit of snow right now--in early September!!!)
Probably one of your best descriptive videos Paul. Would have been nice to have seen some down the line footage, but great info for a much used shot in golf.
This is a good one for sure. This can be a great shot in windy conditions. Few can hit it as I explained so they never take advantage of it. Glad you see it.
Another great video! I live in Central Kansas and no joke about the wind. Played the other day and my hat flew off several times and a really strong wind stole our scorecard from the cart 😂
Yes, wind that I care to forget. I am a fair weather golfer. Make sure you follow this tip. This is a big one for anyone in windy conditions. Took me a while to figure it out.
With all the tips on you tube ... and after really liking the way you get your points across , Im gonna stick with just watching your tips .. I have already see results in your shanking tip , hinge tip very Happy with The Body Swing way of bettering your self in the golf game ... Thumbs up Paul
That's great. Thanks for your support. People can get confused with too much info. Choosing one teacher is the way to go. Just follow each lesson carefully and do lots of practice swings. Build the swing and you will play great golf.
Thank you for all you videos. I've gained alot of yardage. Now I need to practice all my game from short to driver. My biggest problem is when I think I'm going to hit say 150 it goes 175. Your videos are all I watch for now.
Yes, great feeling when you start blowing it over greens and hitting driver longer than ever. Just need time to trust the new yardages and adjust. Keep at it.
Paul great lesson.....are you releasing the club at impact with follow through...or trying to hold club square to target line as long as possible....the slow mo shot shows the club turning...but its held off like a 3/4 finish held...not over your shoulder to full finish...the body is still turning but you are in tune with your arms more......i guess that impact position is key...but you stil have to be accelerating through shot....
All I am doing is hinging and turning the hips to hit it. The descending blow stops the follow through. So I only go through a little. The grip and angle of the club is the key. That gives you the descending blow. Weight forward no shift.
The funny part is that I’ve been playing my irons the exact same way for a long time, I thought I was doing something wrong, and the ball goes straight as an arrow, I can drive the ball a long ways but I find I’m killing it, maybe too much angle, so a least I can keep at it until I perfect it. Thanks for the help.
It's a fine line between what I give away. I have a membership site which people pay for so it's not really fair if I give it all away. Plus, I get people crying out for short game tips. I post one and no one watches it. Here you go: Chipping is easy. It's a stroke like putting. Ball back instep. Hands forward. 3-4 knuckle grip. Weight forward. Stroke it like a putt.
I’m a high handicapper and I have had to use the punch shot in lieu of my woods since I am inconsistent with the woods, the punch shot with a 5 or 4 iron gets me to the green a lot easier.
Paul - assume that the normal rotational principles of the swing you teach still apply. Lot of discussion about arms and hands here, which makes sense, but same application of hips and torso as in a regular swing?
Yes, but for these shots I am not really thinking about it. My whole thought is to get the hands back to where they started. Plus, hitting the ground with the descending blow cuts off my follow through. So this one is a little more arms thinking than a normal swing.
Thanks. I really just go for it. I don't do anything different. I am certainly not trying to kill it. You can tee it a little lower too but you start changing things and you are never going to keep it in play.
@@paulwilsongolf just to add to what Paul said, into the wind with the driver I try being the most relaxed as possible. Sometimes you think you have hit the ball harder but that could just add more side spin which into the wind will make a fade a slice.
I recall Jack Nicklaus could hit a 1 iron unlike any other pro when he turned professional. I believe that club is on display at Muirfield along with a record of the magnificent shots he made using it.

Cool! That is a simplistic explanation of the technique to muster up the punch shot. The relationship (position) of the hands relative to the club face at impact gives me a clue to fix the hooks I frequent too. Awesome!
@@paulwilsongolf Paul I'm asking about hitting a low punch shot with the driver? Since on irons the ball is back off your right heel would the driver be back as well and if so, how far back would the ball be to hit a low punch shot through the wind? Thanks
Paul, I often have to hit low punch shots under tree limbs on my course, shots that go 50 to 100 yards but get no more than a couple of feet off the ground. I struggle with pull hooks on that shot, so thanks for letting me know why. Even worse, though, is that I usually just pop it up in the air. I take like a 6-iron, set up exactly as you do here, make what feels like the same swing as you do here, but the ball just pops up in the air and into the tree. What am I most likely doing wrong to cause that? Any help would be appreciated more than you know...
Glad you saw it. This will really help you. You need your hands ahead to deloft the club. You are doing a chicken wing adding loft. Hold the angle more.
Not sure how you got that. I am literally picking it up more vertically and hitting with arms. Body is following along. You may need to watch it again.
@@paulwilsongolf No, I saw that part but tried to ignore it b/c I'm so afraid of swinging with arms now. But I'll try it out if other idea doesn't work.
Well, you need to go up and it's not going to go up there on its own. So keep in mind this is the backswing. Once you set the top you are not hitting or helping the shot in the downswing.
It’s so simple when you explain it paul, keep them coming 👍🏻
Glad you like them. Thanks.
When I'm on the range now I glance over at other golfers and say to myself " wow these guys need to watch Paul Wilson's videos"
Just yell it out. They will thank you. Me too.
Last ten or so balls at range are dedicated to these type shots. Another great tip. Thanks
Glad to help

Glad you had this shot. So great when they take off dead straight. We don't want to be holding too much angle with driver that's for sure.
Awesome paul. Would be great if you could do a video on chipping/pitching technique, your way of teaching is so easy to understand

You can do that until there is a bunker in front of the green. This means you need to work on the other shots too. You can do it.
Finally, you answered my question to my low hooks. Thanks for the heads up, Paul.
Thought some would benefit from it. This is a game changing shot.
@@paulwilsongolf you sure explain things easily to follow. Thanks again sir.
Slow motion is so useful on this video
Yeah. I will do it more in the future.
Sounds like this shot comes in handy at the course you grew up on in elmira Ontario Canada where it was always windy.
Yeah, I never really mastered it out there. It was Kansas City that I had to hit it. Now that was windy. Great to hear from you Peter.

I usually take one more club.

for @@paulwilsongolf 😂
awesome i know that im holding to long causeing me to push fade some
Yep. Now you can start hitting bullets. Awesome shot when you've got it mastered.
does this tip work the same way 4 woods n drivers?
No. You would not be punching any of those clubs. Let say about 5 iron and down.
Is it the same way one could hit a stinger?
Sure. Just be careful you don't deloft it too much. I would youtube Tiger explaining it. A 2 iron delfoted is what? A club with no loft on it.
Perfect shot when your ball is somewhere under the trees. Thanks Paul 👌
Yes, you can certainly hit this shot.

No re hinge?
Not really. The club hits the ground with a severe descending blow so that kills the follow through.
One of the best tips ever. Now my punch shots go straight I’m having to learn to aim left!!
Yes, huge tip here. This is such a great shot to hit once you can do it.
