I can’t tell you how much this improved my driving. It brought my RPM’s down to low 2k, from high 3k-4k. I’m now consistently averaging 280+ total yards. Thank you so much, Eric.
This has been my new religion the last few days. Been doing these drills over and over. I have a setup in my basement where I start with clipping the tee with the one handed swing 10x, then same with both hands, and all with the stick over the tee. My path was just too far left and I was never going to play consistent without getting closer to neutral or fingers crossed eventually right. With my indoor mat I have to tee higher than I’m usually comfortable with and I have noticed I’m catching the top of my driver some. The direction is great though just launches towards space, hoping it’s the tee height but might still be getting too steep.
Another gem Eric! I do some teaching at the golf shop I work at and I use your drills and swing keys almost every time. You’ll be glad to know I let my students know I got the ideas from you!
Great lesson about two months ago i was watching a video you did about 4 years ago on driver after watching i fouces keeping my head back Ive never hit driver better cant wait to start using this thanks for all the help
as a senior golfer, 65.. I have commented on this before, this drill has been the best to help me almost eliminate the slice. and add 30 yards . the stick in the bucket also, keeps my back to the target a fraction longer, keeps me from spinning out. helps me get the club head to impact slightly before my hands. and square things up. Everyone should do this drill.
Great tip Eric! I recently watched another tip that helped me as well. I was cupping my wrist, and trying to fight to flatten it out. Which you know will cause a lot of issues... I never considered my grip being the cause of my cupping of my left wrist, but it was the cause. Now that I've corrected my left hand grip angle, it has corrected a lot my issues off the tee. I'm going to incorporate the correct grip angle and your tip, and see how that works for me. Thank you for posting another great golf tip!
Not only have I been practicing this drill since I saw it on this video and on the video you did with a student recently, today I played 11 holes of golf and not once did I hit the ball right i.e. cut or slice the ball. I'm still trying to 'fine tune' my release so that I stop those nasty hooks, but boy oh boy, when I get it right I get a lovely penetrating draw. Awesome drill and explanation. And as we say in Ireland 'Go raibh maith agat'. (Thank you.)
Erics videos jas helped me so much thanks Eric I appreciate all your hard work that you put into these videos for us to take to the range and put it to work for ourselves
Another great video, Eric. I'm looking forward to the iron's version. It's the club where I need more consistency and is my achilles heel. Probably like most mid handicappers?!
Eric, I’ve been following your instruction for a while, and I thought your teaching leaned more toward a Stack-and-Tilt, G-Box & Precision Impact method. However, in this video, it looks like you’re demonstrating something closer to Dr. Kwon’s approach, especially Kwon's rope drill and the way your hands are rolling through the impact area to keep the shaft on plane. Even your pivot is much more abbreviated. Are you evolving your teaching philosophy, or is this just another layer to your method? Love your content-always super helpful!
Thank you! I would say a great coach uses elements from all different ideas. I wouldn't consider myself any specific type of coach.....just giving the student in front of me whatever they need. So I learn from everyone! (as I think everyone should)
My most common miss off the tee has been a block (push) to the right. I’ve seen alot of content saying to “bow” the lead wrist causing the face to stay closed longer. I’ve found this lesson of letting the club naturally shut by itself has worked the best for me. However, I occasionally get some snap hooks. Happens about 50% now. Releasing too early?
Hey! Could be....I would need to see to say for sure.....could be several things. Maybe closing the face too much/path too far to the right.....why WHY I need to see....send to www.cogornogolf.com if you dont get it sorted
Great video once again Eric. I wonder if you could adress in a future video a thing that I know it's simple but I am struggling a bit with. How do I define at what distance I should be from the ball, irons and driver? Thank you and keep the good work :)
He was swing 4 o' clock to 10 o' clock, so the club appears to be pointing from the 3 to the 12 ( the ball). I would think any angle that helps to remind you to stay in to out is fine.
Hey! I would close it the same way with all clubs......the 3 main ways to do it I go over here.....there are OPTIONS ruclips.net/video/fCW9W_lGQtM/видео.html&pp=ygU1RXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGhvdyB0byBjbG9zZSB0aGUgY2x1YiBmYWNlIGluIGdvbGYgc3dpbmc%3D
@@CogornoGolf awesome instructions, I’m working on option 2, turning it down, I did that recently and shot a 79, my issue is I’m trying to do it at 9:00 and when I’m off it’s bad and I end up 89/91, I like how you said you can do it at anytime, I will try it at the take away until my brain makes it second nature.
Hey! Kind of----of course there are more details....more on that here ruclips.net/video/fRVO2vVOtOg/видео.html&pp=ygUfRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHR1cm4geW91ciBhcm1zIG9mZg%3D%3D
@ thank you Eric very much. If I keep my head behind the ball I struggle with hitting it fat. To prevent this I play the ball inside my right foot then the ball flies low. I’m sure this will help.
And if you stay even more behind the ball and leave the right shoulder more down, the clubface never goes closer than straight. But straight for a very long time and path.
I have a question for any long-time golfers: Let's say you start golfing, and 6 months in, practicing EVERY DAY, your club-head speed is 105mph (with driver.) If you KEEP PLAYING, will your club head speed continue to GROW? Or, are you kind-of capped at 105mph?
Hey! I would assume it wouldn't get faster just because....YOU would need to do something to make it go faster. Better technique or training your brain body to swing an object faster off the course
Attention all RUclips golf instructors: Stop talking so much. Talk less, much, much LESS. Just teach as if your student is 10 years old. Stop getting stuck in endless details. Make it simple. One drill for the backswing and one drill for the downswing. That's it. If you can't do that, then you don't know the material. PGA pros do not know what they are doing. If they did, two million golfers would not be walking away from the game every year. MAKE IT SIMPLE, or go home. Impress someone else with all the word salads.
Never saw so much nonsense as your comment. PGA pros don't know what they're doing? Two million golfers are quitting every year? Well then there must be 4 million golfers starting every year because the courses are full.
Thanks Andrew! I hear ya---I've tried to shorten them in the past but found they just weren't as good. Sometimes the details matter and I'd prefer to make sure it's covered in full. But I appreciate the feedback and totally understand where you're coming from!

Thanks Eric, that video helped a lot. To be honest one of the first video on RUclips that did and made me subscribe
Glad this one helped, Oliver! Appreciate the support!

Love this drill Eric. You've got a real great shoulder rotation which I try to mirror but the whole drill is terrific. Stay well coach-Russ

Superb drill and idea for driver. Will it be same for solid iron shot? Thanks Eric.

@CogornoGolf I'm on my winter break until after the holidays, but this is something I can do indoors.
Wow, instant swing improovement.
Love to hear it!
Should we turn the left wrist down to square the face on impact as we turn like on an iron or just strengthen the grip?

Is it just me or is it extremely hard to swing a driver with lead arm only with any kind of control?
Hey Matt! Certainly pretty hard if you're HITTING with the one arm only but PRACTICE swings should be pretty easy if you're doing it right!
