I think I’m a good, technically skilled player but I have always struggled with taking a sizeable divot. I’m pretty good with catching the ball well and clean off of the ground without much divot. But I always knew I needed a good ground interaction, but no matter what I tried I couldn’t, it was purely psychological my body preventing further wrist pain I guess. This resulted in ugly low flight spinless thin shots. I just rewatched this video then went to the range with this thought as my only focus, absolutely one of my favourite lessons you’ve put out. You always mention things that golfers could easy misconstrue, like driving the hands down fallacy. Chris, you are and absolute game changer for me! Thank you!
Using the ground pressure has transformed my strike, never really focused on ground force before. Ground, turf was just there to stand on, move on top of. But small change in feeling; start of transition ground pressure over outside lead calf increasing, squeezing the ground has transformed my strike on all shots. Even puring chips & pitches of bare lies 😎. 👍 another great explanation Chris
Thanks, Chris! Perfect timing on this video, for me. I have had an issue with movement after the ball strike and is something I started working hard on last week at the range. This video is a huge help!
Spray a line down on the grass in your yard or practice mat, (draw a line in the sand works too if accessible) engrave the motion into your head lads !! Max compression + Yardage crucial in the never-ending golf journey. I have experienced it... as if you never hit the ball, effortless and rewarding!
Could you put horizontal lines in your full swing including the slow motion as show where your hands are lower in the downswing. I did it in and editor and they are slightly higher possibly meaning the extension is starting earlier than you think.
Divots are difficult to take for players who suffer from a lack of lag or wrist hinge regardless of what else was said here. Keeping the butt end of the club pointing towards the ball for as long as possible on the downswing was the only thing which helped me.
Struggle hitting a divot after the ball . Will definitely give it a go next trip to the range. Extending through the shot can sometimes be my downfall. Cheers Chris
Love your stuff! What about a video on getting the arms and hands moving outward properly in transition? My hands tend to go downward and get behind my shirt seamline. Keep up the good work!
Hi Chris, another great video as usual, can I just ask, do you get your hands lower pre impact through increased flex in the legs or more flex towards the ground with the upper body.
I would suggest the hips and knees. I had a tendency to drop my shoulders to try and compress the ball, it caused the club to push away from me, resulting in shanking all the time, took me ages to get rid of
I usually manage to brush the turf after strike but rarely take a divot. In order to lower the hands, I would have thought you either need to lean forward from the hips or lower the knees. Which is correct or is a combination of both?
I have to be careful how I loose a bit of height, I had a tendency to drop my shoulders forward, which pushed the club away from me causing me to shank, took me weeks to figure out that was happening. I now try and stay tall with my upper body and allow the hips and knees to drop slightly.
Chris, sounds reasonable, but when I watched this swing in slow motion it wasn’t obvious that your hands were actually moving up around impact, or at least not as far as I could tell. Is this move more of a “feel” rather than a description of what actually happens? Or maybe I’ve misunderstood what you are saying.

Yet again a simple but effective instructional video. Thanks Chris keep up the good work!
How prophetic. I was just going to look you up on how to take a divot. And your new video came out. This is perfect. Cheers.
Haha, read your mind Tim 🤯

Awesome that’s great, agree that this can really elevate the ball striking!!
This is pure gold! I’ve been working on this all summer.
At 4:15 you just mentioned a problem that I was doing. Amazing video. Thanks

Top notch as always Chris -well done

You're a great teacher, Chris. I hope someday I can afford to take a trip across the pond and take your classes!
Great , shows the importance of body rotation and extension.
I just got into and I’m really struggling with making good contact. I will definitely try this at the range next time! Thanks 🙏🏽

Figuring out how to actually take a divot after the ball correctly is probably the hardest thing in golf.
Divots are difficult to take for players who suffer from a lack of lag or wrist hinge regardless of what else was said here. Keeping the butt end of the club pointing towards the ball for as long as possible on the downswing was the only thing which helped me.
Nice and informative video. Not over detailed
Thank you so much for this Chris. Always been struggling with this

Great video, moving up really makes the club head whip with little effort.
Nice Job Chris. Where is aiming point for driver?
Never even considered this, will now. Interesting, thanks
Awesome analysis and tip
Hardest move in the golf swing for me .

Great instruction.
Thanks for sharing u knowledge
Great swing thought and feeling at imact
Great explanation
Awesome like always :)
Count Yogi never took a divot yet was sweetest hitter of alł time from reports. Check his swing out. Unbelievable.

Does the depth of the divot matter? I take a shallow divot.
Very useful!!!!!!! 😎👌

Thanks for watching, it does happen in many golf swings, it’s just often not a huge amount so maybe not that visible on camera 👍
I always hit thin or pick the ball. If I try to take a divot it seems like I hit the ball fat or "chili dip"
My swing is not steep but take good divots is this good or bad? I also get lots of spin
This is fine, you don’t have to be steep to take divots, as long as the strike it good you are fine 👊
my driving range pro doesn't like my divots...I make it rain
My Dad always used to tell me off for ‘dipping’.
It seems he was wrong.
Many great golfers do lose a little height, too much can be a problem, but a little can really help
You have just described a normal swing. Not much help .
If you support good golf, will you pin me?
Jack Nicklaus was pretty good...right.Sometimes he never took a divot.
Correct, lots of great players hit shots without divots
