I had that fireplace in the 70's, we put it up at Christmas and made a nativity set from Barbie dolls. we used it for many years.

I had a great picking day Sunday. My neighbor put out a redwood glider. We walked down to get it and my other neighbor had a metal Coleman cooler in the trash pile. They are used to me picking up goodies. Then I found 2 dressers along the road for 10 dollars each. I redo furniture for a shop and was so excited.

I grew up with that same fireplace. It came with the cardboard fire wit logs. You plugged in a lightbulb that had a metal whirly piece that the heat from the bulb spun it around making the fire look real!! Brings back memories I was born in 57!!

My elementary school teachers (1970s) always had those cardboard fireplaces to put up as part of classroom Christmas decorations.
I totally remember teachers doing that in the classrooms in the 70's great memories for sure!

We had one when I was little in the early 60’s, it had the fake logs that lite up when plugged in! I loved it so! Congrats on finding one, I’d love to find one, show my kids & two grands! Can’t wait to see what is in the bags!

We had a fireplace kinda like that in the 60's. Ours had cardboard flames and a light bulb that had a tiny plastic pinwheel that made the light flicker to look like flames. I also had that same sewing machine and it worked great and sewed a lot of clothes for my kids over the years.
I also had a cardboard fireplace we had it for years loved it. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.

My Parents had a fireplace, when I was little, My Parents threw it away when we moved to Illinous back in 1974, we stayed there 1 yr then moved back to Indiana.,.we always had the fireplace plugged in and glowing...stockings hung up and Nativity scene on top.....

The song "Laughing" is by The Guess Who. I was surprised you knew songs by the Grass Roots, but then my adult kids know a lot of the old rock & roll songs too. You will have so much fun decorating around the old fireplace next Christmas with all your vintage finds. Nice free stuff today!

Great find! In the early 90s my sister pulled a fake decorative fireplace out of the trash and painted it white and put it in her living room. I loved it, and told her if she ever got tired of it I wanted it. A year or so later, she was driving along and saw one lying face down on the curb for the trash pick up. She realized what it was because she recognized the back of it from painting hers! So she grabbed it for me! We both still have our fake fireplaces in our homes!

I would have never would have guessed a cardboard fireplace in a million years. A Civil War diary, a bundle of Civil War letters, a Victorian photo album, a scrapbook, or a Revolutionary war uniform, maybe? I’ll keep hoping for a huge box of vintage Halloween.
Vintage Halloween is up there on the list! But yes, a simple cardboard fireplace. Sure, I could have spent $$ and found one on eBay, but there's something about finding it in the trash that makes it that much better!

Renee! I am SO HAPPY for you!!! My sister Patti and I had a cardboard fireplace with the aluminum spinner that flickered when the tiny night light bulb was on, it brought us so much joy! I am so proud of you for just driving right up to the family. My trash picking experience (40 yrs) has been mostly positive and everytime that I interracted it became easier. Most people are very gracious and are delighted when you're extremely excited about your finds!!! What a SUPER FUN day you had...I can hardly wait to see what's in those 9 bags!!! Great video!

I love your trash picking videos. You always find such cool stuff. Yesterday I went for a drive and found 2 wet/dry vacs. One works good. Two bikes, part of a barbecue grill and a box of picture frames.

We put a cardboard fireplace up at my mother's day care one Christmas and I sat the kids in a little red rocking chair in front and took a picture of each child. My daughter is now 40 and I still have the adorable picture of her in about '83 when she was 3.
That is the coolest cardboard fireplace !!! A friend of mine had that vintage fireplace. I always wanted one. I do have a vintage silver tree 🌲 with a turn wheel. That is just amazing!!! Ralph Lauren was around 90.00. Depends where you get it Macy’s or department stores that price discount places around 40.00. It is shocking the things that can find on the side of the road!!! I like 👍 doing that as well. That dresser was a cute fixer upper.

Looking forward to the other bags of goodies!!!!!! The window candles are a great old fashion Christmas Decoration, not used as much as other symbols of the season are being used today... We had those at my grandmother's house in the 50's and 60's!!!!!!!!!!!!! We as viewers have tied to get your Buddy "Taco" to do what you are doing by going through the bags but he is more interested in the metal and big items!!!! And truly he miss out on a lot unless he is leaving those items for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
You brought back memories from my childhood and older. We had a cardboard fireplace and an aluminum tree with a color changing wheel. We also put real logs in the fireplace with orange lights tucked behind the logs to look like fire. Great memories including the Grass Roots. They were one of my favorite groups. Hi Renee! What a fun picking day. I've really enjoyed your unloading the trash bag videos. I 'm glad you picked up the sewing machine. I have the same one and still use it. My sister and I purchased it in 1971 and it has sewn many garments, doll clothes, stuffed animals... you name it and I've probably sewn it. It's heavy and durable. Much nicer than the more portable Singer I purchased about 10 years ago.

Love those fireplaces. We had one around 1975. My son was about 2or3. We hung stockings too. It had the cardboard logs with the little yellow night light . My son would just sit in front of it and stare. Maybe he was waiting for Santa! The universe gives you what you ask. Thanks for sharing.

Even if the sewing machine doesn't work, the pedals by themselves sell well on eBay. Grab them if you find them while picking. The pink barbie car you found the other day was a Chevy Bel Air. The pink ones are less common then the aqua ones and sell for a decent money when complete.
