    Your probably so right , they took what they wanted and left the trash and just walked away . No one would have been paying on that unit for that ... they just didn’t want haul that with them , glad you didn’t bid more then what you did . I truly enjoy watching these videos .. love storage lockers .. ❤️

    My mother got dementia and I didn’t know she hadn’t paid for her storage unit. When she got here she kept talking about her “ stuff”. Made my heart sad to know the her memories were in a storage unit. She passed a year ago. I miss her so much!

    I do NOT think this was someone’s unit. I THINK THIS was items left at units not completely cleaned and the facility placed them in there in hope someone does the cleaning for em. I hate to see you were maybe a victim of this Moose’s. It’s a gamble. Some places “salt” the units in hope of bids. Another good video Moose.

    Not to be mean, but wouldn't it be kind of funny if the storage unit auctioneer described the unit (without showing it) as follows: "Unit belonged to a smoker who rolls their own, takes medication, gets the munchies at the craziest time and likes to gamble while reading their bible!!" Oh well like you said not very exciting but might get your money back. Maybe even a profit Renee.... depending on how much you can get for the candle and purses at the flea market. Just some prices I think would be helpful. Stevia by the small box, about 75 or so packets is $5.00 here. Sink strainer about $2.00. Our dollar stores are often out of them. Aluminum foil about 4.00 a package these days for thin sheet, small packages (just bought some) so if it is unopened score. Bowl covers, not hair shower caps run about $2.30 to 3.00. Cotton balls are running about $2.00 to 4.00 depending on count and if cotton not synthetic. Put a few of your postcards old ones with scenes in the frame. I think that they will fit or the enlarge ones. Nothing special just a theme and sell for 3.00. I haven't gotten thru the entire list yet but this will give you enough info to price at the flea market. Priced correctly you will get your money back at a dollar of two for each item. A box of just stuff, earrings etc at 50 cents another at 25 cents for rummage. When people rummage they see other stuff. ; P. Yes I'm bossy aren't I? Use to sell at fleas too. PS take old pills to the fire stations to dispose of.

  • @vinyl1Earthlink
    @vinyl1Earthlink 4 года назад +3

    Unlike many commenters, I thought this was a pretty decent unit for $10. If you go to a store, they'll charge you $3.99 for a roll of aluminum foil. A skilled reseller could easily get $100 out of a unit like this - the flashlight, cell phone, purses, frames, cigarette machine, cooler.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  4 года назад +1

      The foil, cotton balls, and dryer sheets were good household finds. Since they were not opened, I'll just add these to my stockpile and essentially made my $10 back on them.

    I work at a mini storage, we have 325 storage units. People walk away from units all the time . They get tired of paying the fees. Other people move out of state and just leave it. Then you have people who will throw it all in the dumpster. That's where I dive at. I have found some very nice things in the dumpster.😊

Just last month my brother came to take 5 generations of photos from my shed, two tubs full. So the point is that life happens and all of a sudden we humans are being blown around like fall leaves.....

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  4 года назад +5

      Understand Bill. You spoke truth when you stated that you had to build a shed... people rent units because they do not have the space (one of the reasons) and if they did not have space before to store the items, then how do they have space in a few months? I think that's one of the many reasons why units become "abandoned".

    These kinds of lockers do make me sad (especially when you find a few random kids’ toys) , but I appreciate the care and sensitivity you express while going through the lockers. Another person mentioned that perhaps this person was living in their car and then got the storage unit when they lost it and had to get their things out quickly (garbage and all). I had another, sadder, thought that perhaps they were using the unit for a temporary shelter ... I thought I saw a name written on the floor in the back, perhaps written by a child? It might explain the apple pie, candy, etc. Sorry, I didn’t want to make this sad, just wanted to say how much I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

    If I am ever in the market for a vintage McDonald's apple pie, I know where to look! I believe the owners removed stuff before abandoning it because most storage places rent smaller units than that one and there was lots of empty space in the unit. Still fun to watch and the dive-bombing insect added more excitement.

    A little ridiculous to store that bunch of junk for who knows how long, but you found some things you can use and sell. Those pills were affecting the owners ability to think clearly.

      Lots of people roll their own cigarettes, in some states where they tax cigarettes heavy but not so much tobacco you can save quite a bit on a pack. My sisters husband rolls his, even uses tubes with filters in them

      Also, some people who like tobacco buy the way cheaper tins, and also those who don’t want all the chemical additives cigarette manufacturers put in. “Free Spirit” is a much healthier tobacco.

    when landlords evict tenants they must hire a company that moves all, even garbage, of the tenants things into a storage locker and pay for storage for one month. most tenants dont claim there belongings.

    • @hulahickey6959
      @hulahickey6959 4 года назад

      In ohio you don't have to do that. Hire a sheriff for $75 to witness the eviction. I can literally move everything to the sidewalk the day before trash day. In one neighborhood I was cleaning the inside of the house and people from all over the neighborhood sorted through the stuff. By the time I was done cleaning all of the furniture and most of the bags were gone. They did leave a mess of broken open bags but it didn't take long to tidy up. Another day I had neighbors asking when the eviction would take place. They waited on their stoop for the sheriff to leave and then picked thru the stuff.

    All kidding aside, proud of you for taking a chance and buying that unit. While there might not have been anything exciting you got content for your channel, you gave us something fun to watch and were able to make your money back. Stay positive and more big scores will surely come.

    There are exactly 3 types of storage units you can bid and win on. 1) Older people who have passed away and their relatives did not know or care that they had units. These are the most desirable to win as they are filled with vintage and possible jewelry. 2) Hoarders overflow. Not only do you get quite a few brand new items, you also get yucky things such as used paper towels and .... 3) Lastly, people who have gone to jail or prison. These units can have entire households and it is great for flea markets or to sell at garage sales. Or like me in my last auction win, I found a big bag on crystal meth and other drug paraphernalia. No profit just trash. I like these small units that have not cost you much. $10 is even a great price just for the enjoyment of possibly winning big!

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  4 года назад +1

      Great overview of the types of units, pretty spot on! I find that the older units are the ones, as you said, that go for crazy prices. There was a unit at this facility that had from floor to ceiling copy paper boxes, moving boxes, etc. stacked. You could see some collectable items and then there were boxes of books as well. The unit went for over $300... here inside the boxes were all Reader's Digest books! Like the "100 Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar"... The buyer was sooo mad as they thought for sure it would have been loaded with more of the collectables that they could see.

    This is why I like to watch you. Real. You have happened upon fantastic stuff in garbage sacks and you are honest when you hit a bit of a dud storage unit. (Although, if you use any of those household items, you made back way more than $10.) If you happen upon a storage unit with a trunk full of gold, I'm gonna believe you.

    I suspect all of the items/bags came from an auto, perhaps someone who has been living in her car off and on for some time and either had her auto repossessed thus needing to reclaim its contents or who finally found a permanent home. Almost all of the bags you showed were from different smaller stores and very few items were significant household usage. Unhealthy food, cosmetic type things. That is my take. You did a good job presenting it without distaste as to your findings just confusion as to purpose Could be those items were all her worldly treasurers at that moment. I sure like your going through storage units more than watching you to through garbage bag. Diana

    So how did the auctioneer know what the contents were ahead of time (he said purses etc)? Does this not then mean that either someone from the storage or auction company had already been in the locker? Is there any rule or law that would prevent them from removing valuables and then just auctioning off the rest? I’ve never been to a storage auction so I’m not sure how it works. I know I’ve read stories about some online storage units being staged.

      Kim A - I smelt a rat!. If someone from the facility took anything of value and then sold the Unit for $10, they know that the purchaser is not going to kick up a fuss for that price. Times are hard-who knows.

    I’m with you Renee’. I’m baffled too.
    It would be so interesting to know the stories of why these units were abandoned and why they stored junk. Oh well, it was still interesting to see and at least you have the cooler so you could make your $10 back. I still think it’s great that you do this, though, because as the old saying goes “nothing ventured nothing gained”. 👍🏻
