Shield all the way. My main beef with it is that Google now serves "suggested content" (aka ads) at your home screen. Those are often for services you don't even have access to and parents might be concerned that there's no parental controls for those either. On the other hand, it's Android, meaning there's much you can do with it. I've setup a Linux distro and run a Pi-Hole server on my Shield. In the future I plan to run other stuff there, like a smart home server and my SD-Wan management software. Can't imagine Apple tolerating the idea of me doing what I want with the hardware I bought. I have the Shield 2017,2019 and just got myself Apple TV 4k 3rd gen. My summary - The shield is 99% perfect but it has one issue - The lack of proper 24p playback support. The 2019 version has a framerate match feature but is serioulsy broken. This is not nessecerily Shield's doing but more the way the apps are written for Shield. The lack of 24p will cause image judder due to 3:2 pulldown( just google on this) which is very distracting especially on bigger screees and PJs.. On the other hand, Apple TV 4k matches framerate perfectly on every single one of the major streaming platfroms. This is again fine for most streaming platform as it'll correctly pickup Atmos, but DTS - nope.

Yes you will need at least the Apple TV+ subscription. However, if you have an iPhone or iPad, you will get more for your money if you get a combined subscription: one with extra storage (as the 5Gb default is a joke as it won't even back up a reasonably full iOS device) and then maybe Apple Music and TV+. Also, the combined subscription allows you to share it with 5 other family members / friends, who can help you share the cost.
First time listening to your vidoes and your accent is great. Thanks for the video. My Formovie Theater supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. I'm getting an Apple TV because both me and my wife use an iPhone and Airpods Pro and we don't plan on changing that anytime soon and Apple TV works even better if you use it with other Apple devices. But its good to scout out what's out there. I'm not a fan of Google TV because I have it by default on my TV and its laggy, doesn't keep my VPN open in the background and the apps in general don't feel high quality. That maybe due to my TVs shitty processor but it has left a bad impression on me. My TV also supports both DTS and Dolby Atmos so sound is not an issue for me.
Hey bro can you plz tell me the exact setting for nvidia shield setting for atmos sound. I’m getting only multi channel or stereo only. I tried mutli options but no use..
the Apple TV app is gimped on 3rd party devices. It doesn’t include any of the iTunes Extras nor the HDR on a lot of movies - especially the “free upgrades”, don’t work through the Apple Tv app on non ATV devices. Which frustrates me.
What about the frame match on the shield. Does it also match the frame and dynamic range like the Apple TV does on most popular streaming apps? That it was keeps me with apple despite the lack of audio but i can’t stand to watch native 24hz and be force to 60hz it creates judder or frame skipping issues.
It is there but it is hit of miss when it comes to compatibility with the apps. I have forced my Shield to be at 24hz mostly for movies. But you are right

Half the things you are comparing or saying about the Apple TV make this not really a comparison as the Shield is a device ment for streaming and can be used as a server whereas the Apple TV is like the Firestick or Roku which is a way to have a better smart interface than the tv, also the Apple TV app on other devices only allows you to watch streaming/bought items and not extras. Another feature that the Apple TV has for the Apple ecosystem is viewing home media off and photos off your Mac. While the Shield is great your points show you don’t know much about comparing them

As to your comment why get an ATV? If you are heavily invested in the iTunes Eco System you HAVE to have one. I have over 2,000 movies on iTunes. For awhile Apple provided free 4k/HDR upgrades, I got over 400 of my HD movies upgraded for free. That paod for the Atv, several times over. The Apple TV apps on other devices DO NOT have the special features with their movies - which is utter BS. For example LOTR and Star Wars have Hours upon hours of extras on Atv, but on my Nvidia Shield or TV aTV App, zero Extras. Now the way around that issue is to use Movies Anywhere as the movies there include the extras. The problem with this though is it doesn’t have all the movies I own and a lot of times it won’t include the free 4k/HDR upgrade. It’s just scummy that Apple doesn’t include them on their OWN apps.
@@MyGadgetsWorld Yep. I used to get free Blu-rays back in the day so I have a lot from that and with digital codes redeemed those and then I kneejerk buy a lot of movies during the $4.99 sales. It all adds up though, when I think about it. That's a lot of money spent - even not counting for the thousands of movies I got for free. Based on forum comments, this seems to be a common issue if you have a large library - like over 1,000.

@@MyGadgetsWorld would love that
Where did you get the imax DTS x track from
I would like to know from you that you have Shield, AppleTV and WebOS what do you think of the Netflix interface on AppleTV? I find it old, all new additions are missing and it seems stuck in 2016 compared to WebOS. How is Netflix on Shield? Thank you.
The best is on Shield TV. It gets constant updates and plays every thing it offers. Dolby vision , dolby atmos
Plex on Apple TV has horrible audio sync issues, I’m switching to nvidia shield because of it
I love your accent, where can I buy one? 😁👍
Thank you for your great content have been looking for this comparison recently!
Thank you :)
Good to know Apple TV doesn't support DTS-X. That alone will steer us towards the Shield. Even our Chrome Cast TV 4k does that for my PLEX movies....
Is that really true that DTS-X not supported ? Shame on Apple for restricting that to users after paying very high for device. God must know whats going on with Apple. neither Plex nor AI upscale works with them .
do you know if the shield pro or newest apple tv 4k is better for streaming games from the pc to the tv with moonlight?
Apple tv
Does apple music spatial works in apple tv or is it better to use a Tidal in Shield?
I would like to see a diagram how did you connect the sound system and the Nvidia Shield to the tv. Thank you.
Nice Bowers and wilkins 702 s2's and 705's! I have the same setup! the 702 s3's were just released!
Thank you. Yes S2 prices just went down since S3 launched. Bets time to buy S2
What program
Do you use to RIP yr movies
Mine is 5.1 dolby digital audio system and 4k dolby vision tv. Which one would be best, any suggestions please
Still have all 3 of my 2015 Shields throughout my house and in my HT. 8 years of reliable service and UPDATES! Best bang for your buck in the long run! Love the video AI and all the variety the Shield has plus all the codecs covered.
“updates” yeh, still on Android 11, 2022 security patches and trash optimisation.
@@riot9179 You don't know how to use it...leave it to us professionals ha ha
The question is is apple tv better than oled native apps in term of quality
Yes. Without any doubt
I love my NVIDIA SHIELD PRO, Apple limits some apps, and 7.1 codecs won't work, I can't even connect my usb hard drives
Can you not use PLEX App on Apple TV via a Synology server?
Yes
i have both but i prefert the navida shield as there is audio passthrough
Just hope Nvidia releases a new shield soon.
I don't think they need to. The hardware is still great and the release software updates all the time.
@@kingcrimson234 Oh agreed, their hardware and software support is first class. Just think it would be a bit of a money spinner for Nvidia. HDMI 2.1, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, faster chipset, new AI features....they'd sell a ton!
Hi mike what streaming device is perfect forQ90a just for netflix disney plus & prime, because i got a good deal at costco$700 65 inchQ90a is a nice tv but the menu interface kind of laggy sometimes unlike webos and google tv. if i choose apple tv do i need to pay on apple monthly service besides my netflix disney subscription? thanks in advance.
Best streaming device is ShieldTV pro. But if you have apple ecosystem then staying in that ecosystem is very good and easy. I personally use ShieldTV Pro for everything
@@MyGadgetsWorld Thanks the only apple i have is my phone and i just purchased my Apple tv gen 3 my very first streaming device , thank u more power.
Also, the combined subscription allows you to share it with 5 other family members / friends, who can help you share the cost.
a page to download blu ray discs, please?
First time listening to your vidoes and your accent is great. Thanks for the video. My Formovie Theater supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. I play a lot of PC games, so the shield is more desirable for gaming, but does not support HDR10+. I am torn between which to buy. I do watch a lot of Prime Video, so I am worried their support for HDR10+ will continue and ill regret not buying the new Apple TV. Any advice? :)
Thanks for your comment. I will suggest Apple TV if you don’t play Bluray Rips and don’t want a Plex Server that is built into the Shield TV Pro. Apple TV has amazing library for Dolby Vision movies and now with HDR10+ support there are many titles which can be played in HDR10+ on Apple TV 4K Gen 3
@@MyGadgetsWorld Thank you for the suggestion! Video quality really is the most important thing to me. I am just worried I will regret not getting the shield for its gaming stuff, but maybe Apple TV can do something similar.
Lor of questions, what is your disk drive ? which format do you rip your dvd and blueray for plex and how do you send it to your hard drive connected to the nvidia shield ? Do you know if there is a new nvidia shield coming soon ?
Thanks
hi , do you have an idea about free app called nova media player and it's quality of picture and sound ?
Can we play BLU-RAY ripped movie which has more than 60GB from HDD with NVIDIA SHIELD without any lag or screen blur?
Thats a quick n on point comparison👏. Thank u sir
Really appreciate your comment as always.
Noob here. What do you mean by "gaming" in the context of a Nvidia Shield vs Apple TV video? What kind of games do you mean?
I haven't been a gamer since Xbox 360, and a single Roku stick has been my media setup for 10 years. So, I'm a bit behind now lol.
Ignorant people hate accents. Normal people are aware it means you are smart enough to know more than one language
Thank you sir.
Hey bro can you plz tell me the exact setting for nvidia shield setting for atmos sound. I’m getting only multi channel or stereo only. I tried mutli options but no use..
I have no problem with your accent i can understand you perfectly fine
Thank you
the Apple TV app is gimped on 3rd party devices.
But you are right
What you recommend for iptv. I currently use smart tv and lot of buffering
IPTVX is the best one for apple devices and Apple TV if you need a new service provider let me know mine is fast and always updating
Thank you so much for the detailed comparison and explanation.. this is exactly what I was looking for ... Independent Plex server using USB and watching TrueHD 7.1 atmos is my requirement.. and good to know that apple TV supports only the compressed atmos audio.
Nice review keep up the good work
Thank you Marcus
Great informative video
Great video! Any idea if this new gen AppleTV fixes the native Atmos decoding from Netflix or other apps? Very frustrating on the last gen product in my reference system. In my secondary system, no Atmos issues and I have the first gen 4K AppleTV there; Atmos streams fine without any issues on that system. Thanks for your help!
Also, I have all my AppleTV’s running through a Marantz AVR or AVP. The one that is used with my Sony A90J has lip sync issues - any experience with this? Thanks!
I had to fine tune my gen2 in the settings with receiver and used a good fiber optic hdmi to get everything synced properly
@@MyGadgetsWorld excellent - can you advise on that process? My Marantz AVR’s and AVP have the lip sync setting but not sure how to optimize it. Thanks!
Hi thanks for video I need to know does Nvidia shield tv pro support DTS-HD MA using pass through.
Yes, it does
I don't have an Apple TV box, but do have an Nvidia Shield and a Chromecast with Google TV, and on my 4k projector the Chromecast is a CLEAR winner! Way less trouble to set up, the picture quality is equally as good if not better, and it will give me 4k HDR on RUclips! If the Apple is better I'd be curious to invest in one, but for now, it's the Chromecast for me!
It would be good to know how the steam link app performs on these two devices as a comparison
That’s great. Mostly steam relies on good internet quality
I wonder if there is any difference when streaming games from your PC via moonlight. I remember that nvidia once said that SHIELD has lower input lag than other solutions. However this was before the new Apple TV was published. Do you have any tools to measure input lag? Would be nice to see a comparsion.
Hi, I ended up getting apple tv last month or so, nvidia shield pro causing me problems as of late, netflix preview a title just black screens, but its not with all title preview it causes black screen, havn't noticed it in disney or amazon prime with the shield pro.
The apple app is weird on android os as it has no store option, i like to rent from apple tv store so it kind of forced me to buy an apple tv.
i do like the apple tv so far the latest model but when u need the shield u need the shield!
I like you set up I was sad when they discontinued Oppo players. I have the same b&w I've been using the Oppo as a preamp and emotive power how the sound with the marantz in 2 channel
Not sure everyone misses the point. I own the both the device. VPN makes shield the edge
I'm using a steam deck with USB hub. Seems to have all the scaling improvements that come with whatever tech made it to RDNA2. 4k60 runs fine.
Does it have audio passthrough? Only reason I am thinking of get this Shield Pro and ditching Apple TV. I already own a Steam Deck so it be awesome if it can direct play 4K HDR DV and passthrough too.
While the Shield is great your points show you don’t know much about comparing them
0:30 is your accent order delayed because it's coming from China?
No. Because they couldn’t find the one that is good enough so people stop asking about it. I am in search for a perfect one :)
I prefer Apple TV a lot for the video loading speed. 10 times faster than others
I been a shield guy since the shield handheld
Can you use Zwift on the shield?
Ignore the idiot's comment about the accent. People who normally make stupid remark's about someone's accent have a very limited worldview and usually only speak their own mother tongue. Your accent is great. Accents and languages are things that make the world varied and interesting!
This is type of comment that keep me motivated. Thank you
I have both, I ended up using the Shield more often as it just looks better on my Samsung OLED.
The new Apple TV 4K will look better on Samsung tvs as it now supports hdr10+
@@ahiyanali7231 I hope so. Currently I have the Zidoo Neo Alpha but I can't really see the difference between HDR10 and 10+ content. I'm sure there is but yes I do agree with the new apple tv being able to support HDR10+ is quite a big improvement for some.
@@ongkevin9104 what content you're playing?
@@jarekzahary hi! I've so far played 1917, WW84, A beautiful planet just to name a few. Those are my 4K BluRay rip. It might be my TV calibration. But it was out of the box and I've done some basic calibration but that's it.
@@ongkevin9104 what fw, are you using filmmaker mode?
Thanks for sharing that Michelle. I alao have sometimes that Issue as I carry a huge collection to myself but not 2000, that is really impressive
Based on forum comments, this seems to be a common issue if you have a large library - like over 1,000.
love your accent :-), and a great comparison… thanks
I currently have the Tablo and I’m enjoying it, however the tv I have has the Apple TV app, I used the free trial and enjoy that service as well.
Shield all day. Great PLEX media sever and one of the best emulation gaming set ups 👍
I used to love my ATV4K but the new ATV 4k was always a buggy, broken mess and what’s worse the ATV App doesn’t load my iTunes Library at all and I purchased and returned 9 different ATVs in the last few yrs. My library only loads on the Movies and TV apps. It’s frustrating. Hoping it finally works on the newly announced AtVs.
Man! This makes me sad. I was so looking forward to buy an apple tv for my samsung qn95. Since I hate that samsung is running ads/commercials on their tvs. Nvidia sheild is not available for purchase in my region 😞
I'm looking at getting the ATV cos of its calibration feature and ability to use Airpods with ATV and the cool remote.
That’s great.
