I bought mine new, I think it was Halloween in 79. The red color was actually a rather orangey red. I ran 20/50 Valvoline racing oil, there was once in cold weather (around 15 degrees F) when it was really hard to turn the engine over. Was rear ended once, by a lady driving her husband's Spitfire, knocked the muffler loose and had to be replaced. The weld wasn't very good and it eventually broke, and that engine gets really loud! I loved using the tonneau cover when parked in the sun during the summer, would walk out, unzip it and climb in, no burning flesh from a hot seat.

Recently acquired a 79 Midget myself, and it has the exact same steering wheel squeak/groan (8:36). Just wondering if you ever found out what was causing it in your one, or do you just put up with it? I think it's some kind of steering bush issue, but not sure.
