I am so thrilled to have stumbled upon your video on the restoration of the little MG-MIDGET. I myself owned two of them at different times. One😂was when I was single and later when I was married and my wife was expecting our first child. We have six offspring now. Both Midgets were the same colour, a burnt orange. They also had tonneau covers. The main difference between the two was that the first car had the chrome bumpers while the other had the rubber bumpers. I am so happy for the two of you and will watch as you bring this roadster back to it's younger self. Thank you so much for reminding me of days gone by.

So glad to see you back working on the MG. As I mentioned before one of these was my first car. I drove it home 50 years ago at 14. Freaked my parents out. Lol. I never have forgotten that wonderful little car.

You are a "Jackie of all trades". You did a great job on those seats. As a 30 year experienced upholster, I wanted to give you some tips for the next time. #1. Get a table to work on, it's easier standing to pull and tug! lol. #2. Heat is your friend, you where correct about it being more malleable. #3 A spray can of dry silicone will help slipping the covers on too. And yes the clips are so much better than hog rings!! Love watching you and Aaron work & play, when he isn't napping!! lol!!

Take the time to POR-15 or something similar the floor boards / pans before you glue the carpet, etc down. An extra step to preserve what's there.

Brings back memories when around 1975 I bought me a 1972 Triumph GT6 MKIV with a inline 6 4sp with dual stromberg carbs.....Absolutely loved that car and wish I still had it......Just loved how the whole front end raised up as one piece forward and I could just sit on a tire and work on the entire engine.
Your mom looks like a sweety I'm sure she will love what you have done to the car.

I'm not a pro, but I have patched floors and frames with what ever I had on hand.
I never went Freddy Flintstone on my fixed up daily trucks and cars.
When I showed up with the garage, the tech just barely passed my work, groaning and scratching his head.
He understood there was a need and monetary issues.
I'm really enjoying this MG project, and the warmth of family involvement.
Aaron, I'm much older than you, and understand the need for that afternoon nap.

I used to say my MG was " self cleaning" , because of a wonderful vortex on the freeway behind the seats that would remove any and all trash from the inside of the car..........so for the back , please use glue !!!

Great job getting the midget back in running condition. I always thought those were under appreciated. Findley seems to approve also. P.S. Future reference, when you use the spray adhesive be sure to spray an even coat on both the carpet and the metal you're bonding it to. Let them get a little tacky before laying the carpet in place.

Glad to see another one being rescued. I bought one just over a year ago. It needs way more work to get it back on the road. Your seat restore was very helpful as I have my seat frames stripped, sand blasted and painted. One of the rear tubes had to be replaced. So your video showed me I may need to drill holes for the clips.
    Thank you for posting.

That little square is a reinforcement for under the driver's feet.
Since this kit is universally LHD/RHD you have to glue that square into place yourself.

First up? Your Mum is gorgeous! Her nature and attitude shines through ;-)
The thing with quirky old English cars is they are simple but better still there is a massive aftermarket so the support is insane, I bought another Mini a few years ago... a mid 70's thing with lots of rust so my now 12 yr old Daughter can get her hands dirty with my help like her older siblings did 10 to 15 years ago and maybe to use in Motokhana or Khanacross.
Fairly cheap in parts but the experience will be priceless :-)

I really like what you have done here. I did learn over the years, I always,, ALWAYS,,, buy new foam backs as well as the seats bottoms. If I can’t get both backs, I will make sure the driver’s side is replaced. It would have solved the bit of looseness you have at the top of those seats. It’s really not that hard to redo the seat backs later, maybe when you redo the floors etc. If you never do them, that’s your personal choice, everyone is different. Regardless,,,, what an amazing difference when you do these seats, hey?????
First time watching, but WOW!!! Nice eclectic collection you have!! Very nice! I had 2 x 1969 Broncos and a 1974 Bronco over the years (now I have a 21 Bronco Badlands. Not as cool, but much more comfy!! Haha. I have a 240Z, 260Z and 280Z. Just love sitting in those even!! The interiors are fun. 67 C10, of course and about 10 other vehicles currently!!
If you pre-treated the rust, wire wheel first then stop the action, it becomes relatively solid and would have held the gorilla tape better!!! Please don’t ask me why that works,,,,,, hahaha. Hard fibreboard, 1/4 inch is a nice alternative if you live in a dry climate or otherwise ensure some fair weather only driving. My buddy did this!!! Not me this time!! He kept a 2r0Z going like that for a couple of years!! Hahaha.
Glad you could take in the basketball game!!

Emily, we have a 1952 Jaguar XK120 2 seater hardtop coupe which is, believe it or not, SMALLER inside than that MG is! I'm 6'5" and it is a contortionist's dream to get in and out of that car, let alone drive it! I'm convinced the car was built around the engine with that Jag.
Anyway, thank you & Aaron for more cool and positive video content, looking forward to more! :)

Hi Emily, there's a British technical term for the duct tape floor idea. It's called a 'bodge' and that term covers any use of inappropriate materials or techniques to get something to a state where you can use it! The little square of carpet goes on the driver's side and is to stop you wearing it out too quick with your heels.

Something that might be worth thinking about, when you fix the floors next summer some of that peel and stick insulation up where yer feet ride might be worth the effort. I bought a bunch of it for a hot rod project and it made a world of difference in road noise and heat. And since Mom is gonna drive it in her flip flops or bare foot, keeping the heat out makes sense.

An old car tag would have been perfect for the driver's side floor as a short-term solution. When you guys get the welder situated for the floors you may also consider getting the sound barrier material to put down followed by the interior material you're installing now. It'll make it so much quieter when the top is up. You guys have done a fantastic job with this little car really cool rig your mom is hilarious it'll be fun to see her smiling while driving it down the road.

Now up here in the Rust Belt we’ve been known to do some awesome floor patches with metal: soup cans, beer cans or the occasional redundant road sign. Don’t tell the cops.
But my favorite is an old license plate.
Add some RTV-any flavor will do.
    And a few pop rivets.
And you have a weather tight seal on your Flintstone floor!
Cheaper, faster, stronger and longer lasting than tape.

Mics sound very good. What is making your breaths more audible is the amount of audio compression inherent somewhere in the system. Don't know if it's a 'default' setting or whether it is user changeable. At any rate, the mics DO sound quite good. Picture quality is also very good.

Y'all did an awesome job! When you were talking about the floorboards I was thinking you could cut to fit some wood to put in floorboards. Certain Corvettes have wood in the floorboards, their floorboards have an aircraft-grade Balsa-wood encased in fiberglass. It's strong and lightweight, and it also helps keep the road noise out. lol.

Headrests and steering wheels are of the same creation. Both come off with much force and strike the body in a direct fashion. Noses and bellies are in need of protection!
Neat little car, that MG. I have a Fiat Spider [78] and can relate to folding and unfolding to get in and out. I am 6'3".
Good job with the interior! You really used your head.
Got a kick out of your workaround with Finley. You have good helpers!
Mom?? I'd have thought sister! Neither one of y'all need makeup.

You may consider doubled-sided tape to temporarily place some the carpet where you need to take it back up for the permanent floor pan fix.

I recommend that you use Rust Reformer as a conversion coating on the seat frames and floorboards. Otherwise the rust will progress under the paint.

Your momma’s is going to be so happy to drive this car, maybe use some two sided carpet tape to temporarily hold the front carpets in place, love the videos ❤️😁👍

Sometimes if you spray adhesive on before taping it'll grab and hold better but you got it! Give Finley a pat for us he's so cute!
