The thing is, the MG Midget is not a fast car by any stretch of the imagination however once you get it out on the road . The smile it makes you have inside is priceless and I’m sure you will find that out in the future. In England we have roads much smaller than yours , and behind the wheel it takes you back to 1960/70 when life was much more relaxed. Have fun we did..........

If my rapidly failing memory serves me correctly, I think it was the original build on the Z car that appeared in my feed years ago that brought me here. I have stayed because of episodes like this....the cars are fun, but you...and your attitude and appreciation of family, and the genuine love you have for your family have always been a foundation I deeply admire and respect. Life is a lot shorter than we think it is, and time is the most precious gift of all, time to right wrongs, time to forgive and time to teach the next generation the values that made this country what it is. I will turn 63 tomorrow, and I lost my Dad when I was 22. Lessons learned the hard way sometimes cut the river deeper and faster.
The cars are fun....but the life you live while playing with them...that is the glue that bonds us....and that is a big part of what keeps me coming back.

I know just how you feel about it saving that little car that’s been sleeping for 20 years. I am restoring the 1980 triumph spitfire that just also came come out of a 20 year slumber. The big black rubber bumpers on our cars have to go, chrome is cool.

All MG's are a unique pastel earth tone, and many paint places have diff versions of the same color, so best bet is to take in a rubbed and polished deck lid and have the color scanned.
Now that rubber bumper was only on cars shipped to america, because the chrome ones dont pass the 5mph test, so if u search for bumper 1972 or older, they look SO much better and bolt right on

My dad had a 1967 Austin Healey 3000 when I was growing up. He did some of the work himself but welding and body work he had another person do it. It was super fun to go to British car shows when I was a kid. There’s a lot of MG people at shows, but not many Austin Healey folks. They had poker runs and rally’s with scavenger hunts and such which might be a fun day for you two. They have these cool wicker picnic baskets including a ice area, dishes and glasses too which might be nice for outings too

You're an Optimist Aaron. I can guarantee you the only thing holding those body panels together is the paint! British Leyland vehicles from the mid 70's started rusting as they rolled off the assembly line. Buy full panels. You'll be glad you did later.

David Earnest - All cars in the 70's rusted big style if you did nothing to prevent it even BMWs and Mercedes. Having worked in a garage in the 80s-90s we had to weld lots of cars because of rust. I never had any problem with rust on the 1978 Morris Marina 1.8 HL/TC that I owned because I rustproofed it and looked after it and same with the 1980 Austin Allegro 1750 TC Equipe I owned as well although I didn't have to do as much with regard to that because the Allegro was one of the first everyday cars to be waxed from the factory. The quality of the steel being produced was bad back then as well.

    • @artscott2677
      @artscott2677 2 года назад

I have never been a fan of the quality of the cars from Europe in the 70's but looking back on it, they may have had an issue with the salt water affecting them in the crossing that didn't help either. I am sure that the tech is better now for protecting them.

My wife and I have a 1973 Midget, 1275cc Roadster in British Racing Green. She is certainly a ‘work in progress’! Every time we think we have finished, something else pops up! Currently I’m rebuilding the Rear Axles due to leaky Oil Seals, next will be a full Underseal, that will be fun, NOT! Although your little Midget has only 11k on the clock, don’t forget there are only 5 numbers on the mileage gauge, so she may well have one hundred and eleven! Our car is only showing 3k, but all the historical paperwork that came with her shows the progression up to 100k, so your little gem might have been ‘round the clock’! Have fun with your new ‘toy’!

I bought a yellow '69 Midget in '74 for $1,200.00 from an MG fanatic who needed the cash to rebuild his MGB-GT. Wire wheels, chrome bumpers and luggage rack, perfect interior and body. I later repainted it a nice lemon yellow and put on a new top. It was beautiful and ran perfectly except for the usual need to tap the fuel pump and the starter when the gears jammed. Sadly had to sell it to the auto shop when it needed major engine work and I had no funds to do it due to being a poor grad school student at the time. In retrospect it wasn't really major work, but still out of my budget. I miss that car but now have an NA Miata with 69k original miles to take its place.

She cleaned up so nice! Painting those bumper mounts really helped a lot. I think Aron is right, it needs a little chrome bumper in the back.

    I love it.
Showing us that every car doesn't have to be about going fast, being the shiniest, or the most expensive.
The neatness in a car, in any vehicle, is about us having fun with it.

You should called the MG , Molly Gee, the MG and it'll match in with the other vehicles. Enjoying the look of the plastic less bumpers on the car. But they were there for the American DOT 5mph crash requirement.

Loving the look without the ft bumper. Those days where you take the time and show your sincere appreciation to realizing what you have and what you are grateful makes you so much more endearing. your enthusiasm is contagious. thank you

So awesome to see the young generation working on cars. So many kids are stuck on video games that they miss so many things in life. Make the mg ( the kids ) first car.

I used to have a '67 Midget, bought it while in the Navy. It was a great little car, quick too. They make Tube bumpers for those that look really sweet. I am so jealous of you.

Great video! I tried to purchase a 79 MG midget from a salvage near me but they said they don't sell cars! It's British racing green with tan interior and black convertible top. Very nice car with minimal rust, needs a windshield but otherwise a nice little car. You need any wheel center caps or trim rings or other parts it's a good car. Looks very good since you cleaned it up, take care.
