Two legends. Driving race cars that are way too loose, way too fast, and has no grip. They just have to figure out how to make it work. That's the way it should be.
Truly one of the greatest races of all times as there battling each other so hard with really loose race cars but they are still able to run off away from the field as they was battle each other so hard with such loose race cars
To quote Alan Gustafson: "Jeff Gordon is BACK!" Personally I think even Alan had doubts as to whether Jeff could drive the way he used to, this race proved to him that he still had the best driver he possibly could have behind the wheel.
In 2009 and 2010 they sure had it figured out. '09 he would have scored the second most total points despite only winning once and in 2010 his cars were faster but they always had the worst fortune happen at the end of a race to steal away a win.
I became a NASCAR fan and a diehard Gordon fan in 2003. 20 years later, I think this might be my favorite Gordon win ever. After 5 straight years of Jimmie Johnson championships, constantly being overshadowed by him, this one felt SO GOOD.
The whole race was phenomenal. They went at it all day long. I can't think of another race where two guys went at it that hard while keeping it clean. Wish tracks could be paved new in just that state! Will be sad to see ATL repaved this year. Auto Club is awesome right now, too!
The two Jeff's (Burton and Gordon) had one of the hardest cleanest final lap battles ever at Richmond in 1998 but this one of course ranks better because our favorite came out on top. Was just amazing to see that even with a much faster car, JJ still couldn't get past Jeff. Alan said over the radio that day after the race: "Jeff Gordon is back!" He had been waiting to see the Jeff of old all season long and he finally got to see him.
Easily one of my favorite jeff wins what an amazing battle between two phenomenal drivers just good old fashioned racing jeff got the best of him though which made me extra happy 😊
How does the playback look to you on this? Does the footage play smoothly? Random question I know, just want to make sure what I'm uploading looks good. And yeah I agree, I only enjoyed this fight because Jeff prevailed, haha
I remember coming home from school and watching this because it had been rain delayed with my dad, man I was so nervous those last few laps. This race is the main reason I consider Gordon better than Johnson. Jimmie ran him down, and Jeff was able to still hold on
I was at ATL that race big Jeff fan and my brother was a jimmy fan we got out of school early Monday to go watch the race after the rain that Sunday such a fun moment but man it was cold that day super wet
i think it was clear that jimmies tires were worse and started behind while gordon had clean air. jimmie was at a clear disadvantage. probably the two greatest ever
Man, I miss this Atlanta track. Nascar messed up with the restrictor plate nonsense in Atlanta. Artificially induced side by side racing, didn't need to do that at Atlanta
Yeah, I turned it off when JJ caught him. It looked like he'd blow right by and I wasn't going to sit there and watch it, but lo and behold; when I looked it up later I couldn't believe he'd held him off.
This was one of the best races of all time 2 of the greatest racers are driving very loose cars racing each other and still able to pull away from all the other racers I still remember watching this battle live on tv when it was happening
Loved these 11 laps. So exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Two of NASCAR’s best fighting it off for 11 laps. Similar to Martinsville 2007 where they raced 1 and 2 for over 50 laps.
If you zoom in on Johnson's hand while it's out the window, he's got his index finger up showing the number one. ☝️☝️And no not the f you finger. The real one. Gotta respect someone for recognizing when he got beat by the best. And no, like, band wagoning either.... Jeff Gordon can freaking drive. 😳
Wish they would keep high horsepower and cars that drive like this... this right here is definitive NASCAR.. pretty sure manufactured drama/manufactured entertainment is all we'll be seeing with the next gen car. We had a good run guys, 2014 was the final year for elite NASCAR in my honest opinion. Love the sport to the max, I'm passionate about it. Sucks to know it's never going to be the same anymore and more likely than not in a worse direction.
I like Atlanta now with the unique mini plate track it is basically. This was one of the best races I ever saw but the track was gonna have to be repaved. The racing would suck if we just repaved it and not reconfigured it
Fun to watch for sure... But have to put my 2 cents in here. J. Johnson was NEVER as good as Gordon. 7 championships....in the stupid chase format. #3 and #43 won 7. Under same format if it never changed, Gordon wis 7 and J.J. wins 1. He only won the 7th because ALL 3 contenders IN FRONT of him wrecked on the last lap. J.J. was a great driver, but overrated in my opinion. Gordon is the G.O.A.T
Jimmie won it under 4 different formats because he was so much better than everyone else his 7 titles are just as legit as Richard's and Dale's so cry about it
Without The Chase format which frankly has and always will be a stupid way to determine a champion in racing, Jeff would have had 7 titles. Johnson 3 and Harvick would have 2. 93 wins, 4 titles, dethroned Dale Sr. when he was dominating the sport, most road course wins in a era where they only raced two a year, all time wins regulars season at restrictor plate tracks and the guy was legitimately courted by Jackie Stewart and Bernie Ecclestone to leave for F1. Jeff's at the very top of talent to ever come through Nascar. The Mt. Rushmore of Nascar is Petty, Pearson, Dale Sr. and Gordon.
Two legends. Driving race cars that are way too loose, way too fast, and has no grip. They just have to figure out how to make it work. That's the way it should be.
Problem is the spoiler. Having such a large spoiler on the rear helps take away the aero problems but makes it dangerous for spins
Truly one of the greatest races of all times as there battling each other so hard with really loose race cars but they are still able to run off away from the field as they was battle each other so hard with such loose race cars
Awesome finish, Hendrick’s 2 most iconic drivers fighting for the win
Imagine driving a broken race car and winning… Legend #24 🐐
Still my favorite race ever. They were literally drifting through the corners. That’s real racing.
This proved he still had the drive to win
To quote Alan Gustafson: "Jeff Gordon is BACK!" Personally I think even Alan had doubts as to whether Jeff could drive the way he used to, this race proved to him that he still had the best driver he possibly could have behind the wheel.
The NASCAR guy 24 I don't think he ever lost the drive. I just think his team struggled with the COT and it frustrated him so much.
In 2009 and 2010 they sure had it figured out. '09 he would have scored the second most total points despite only winning once and in 2010 his cars were faster but they always had the worst fortune happen at the end of a race to steal away a win.
@@christenn32 yea NASCAR eventually admitted to the COT being a mistake.
@@jeffgordonedits1258 cough Martinsville cough

The GOAT at work. Imo
Jimmie’s slip angle is insane
This was one of the best races I have ever watched awesome driving !!!
Nothing like two champion's driving for the win. Was a great day for me, I'm a Jeff Gordon fan !!!

Here we are in 2021 and still no official plan to repave Atlanta. Love that place just the way it is.
Man, the timelime of events have aged this comment poorly.

Jeff Gordon Edits it looks great, keep up the great work

Stewart went from 8th to 3rd in this video… we all know what he did in the playoffs that year
This is my favorite race.
Gordo holding off an at the time prime Johnson
Sideways for 10 laps
To be single handed 3rd place all time on the win list.
Had to listen to this on the radio at work because it was a rain delay. I thought he was toast, but nope nope nope not today. LOL!

NASCAR never learned it’s lesson. They keep wanting the casual fan instead of true fans. Probably for profit reasons, but I could be wrong.
@@njj9555 Nah you're right after a year later
This is the kind of racing I wanted to see at Atlanta last week. I was very disappointed and will never watch another race at Atlanta.
Simply an amazing race! 2 of the best ever absolutely!!
This is the real ATlanta. Now ATlanta is terrible. A mini dega
Yep. The new Atlanta is terrible. The drivers hate, and the real racing fans hate it.
I like both versions. Both provide(d) excitement.
Yeah I put that in the top 10 Jeff Gordon's best wins
Deadline 😂❤❤❤🎉
Atlanta is the track mostly full acceleration
I like Atlanta now with the unique mini plate track it is basically. This was one of the best races I ever saw but the track was gonna have to be repaved. The racing would suck if we just repaved it and not reconfigured it
I remember watching this live with my Jeff hat on. My 9 year old asshole was so tight 💀😂
Can touch boy😂❤
He may only have 4 titles. But his car control is Tops all time. Every sideways slide looks controlled and calculated like a surgeon.
How did they mess up Atlanta? I’ll take this racing over the new track everyday!!!
I miss the old Atlanta already
WTF @6:46-6:48 Bro turn the captions on and watch that.😂😂😂😂 What did they even say?
To me this was the proof that Jeff was the better race car driver. Period.
100% agree
Was there with my wife not a Hendricks fan but was pulling do much for Jeff
Jeff Gordon has more talent than Jimmie Johnson
ok
this would never happen in the Next Gen - those pieces of junk never get loose
Fun to watch for sure...
But have to put my 2 cents in here.

Also under the full points system Jimmie would still have 3 no idea where you got 1 from
Tell me you’re stupid without telling me you’re stupid 😂

Jimmy wouldn't have survived with Dale sr.
Nascar ruined Atlanta. This is Atlanta
