This is why I considered Jeff Gordon the best driver in the field of the 2000s and early 2010s until he retired. Anyone else in that position, Jimmie would have passed them easily and drove on to the win.
2011 was really the year that rejuvenated Jeff's career. He went through a pretty big(by his standards) slump, with only 1 win over the previous 3 seasons, and a lot of people seemed to think his best days were behind him. Glad he proved them all wrong.
The championship robbery in 07 and the back injury early into 08 are the biggest reasons for this slump and yet still during this period he won at his worst track in 09 and was still a championship contender points wise over all 3 of those seasons even his slump were good seasons for the majority of any nascar field
My favorite race and finish of the 2011 season. Just amazing to watch 2 of the sport's best duking it out for the win at one of NASCAR's most difficult tracks. Also, thrilling to see Jeff win! Career win #85 of 93!
Yeah I agree. Superman vs. The Rainbow Warrior. The ultimate showdown between the two best drivers of the sport, even driving sideways!!! I'm giving this battle 10 out of 10! Awesome finish!
This was the perfect way to win 85. The track where he made his 1st start and thats where it all started. BTW this was a very amazing race!!! Gordon is the best ever.
Jeff Gordon winning at Atlanta motorspeedway was my 11th birthday present and it happened on my 11th birthday and my dad said he was thinking in his head Jeff Gordon said I'm gonna win for the birthday boy lol
Rainbowarriors im very impressed u got most of jeff gordons wins! im a very die hard gordon fan. i really hope he comes back fore the 2012 championship
yeah man, I was at that race and there were a lot of fans that came back even though a tropical storm came through the day before. The biggest issue that weekend was that everyone had to go back to work or college (as it was on Labor Day Weekend) so many folks had no choice but not to comeback, but trust me, there were more than enough folks there
Never going to be the same when Jeff retires, but I'll be happy to see a talented driver like Chase Elliot taking over the #24. He was impressive in his first NCWTS race at Martinsville.
I love when anybody from Hendrick wins, especially,Gordon because he gets closer to 100,Johnson just to add to his legacy,Kahne because he can drive like crazy and Jr so he can get his confidence back
i remember when i watched that race, i was on my knee's hoping that Gordon wins the race, and once that happened, i was jumping up and down, i was a very happy camper then, but it was the Chase that really got him snake bit, meaning he struggled big time, and i was pissed
Only reason the seats were empty was because the race got postponed until Tuesday afternoon. Who's going to spend $50 to skip off work for a race? 'Course, being it's Atlanta, and Gordon won, I would've if I knew Jeff was going to win.
I think Jeff Gordon should just concentrate on breaking the Record Book. If he focus on being #2 on the All Time List for most wins, I bet he would win a championship easily along the way. The more races he wins the better chance of another championship. Just my opinion though.
This reminds me of the 2003 Darlington race between Kurt Busch and Ricky Craven when both get loose and battle for the win and then Craven comes out with the closet margin in Nascar history
This was probably Jeff's hardest earned victory ever. Hey Rick Hendrick, does that remind you why you hired Jeff to drive for your team? Same track, different manufacture, same ol' Jeff Gordon.
The only race I have hard feelings for on Clint is the Phoenix race. Spring race at Martinsville, he got shoved by Newman. Fall race at M'ville, typical short track racing. Phoenix, wtf.
+Zachary Dalton It's just one example. Keep in mind, if not for the chase, the 7-time champion we'd be talking about wouldn't be Jimmie Johnson, it'd be Jeff Gordon.
+Marco Flores I would really appreciate you not mentioning the whole 6-time champ thing, 'cause we all know the only reason JJ got half of his championships is because of the chase. He still would've had great seasons those years, don't get me wrong, but he should only be the 2006, 09, and 2013 champion. Jeff should be a 7-time champ. You know it, I know it, everybody who isn't brainwashed by Brian France's boloney knows it.
SuperNASCARrocks 2011 had a wildcard system for the Chase. 12 drivers, top 10 in points and then 2 wildcard drivers from 11th-20th that had a win. That thing you're seeing is just noting that they are eligible for that wildcard berth.
Plus the new points system is so much simpler than the old one. If NASCAR needs to rid of anything its the Chase, or at least reformat it, along with the whole season.
Well that race may have sucked, but he did get his revenge by turing Bowyer at the turn 4 wall, and hey, at least that Jeff wasn't winless in 2012, and the pattern was broken as well, so in all, at least Gordon won 2 races and that Johnson did not win the championship
Yeah, I mean I'd like to see young Ryan Blaney given a try in Tommy Baldwin's car. Why the hell would you put a never-will-be in your ride? Then again, you need to spoil him to make him good. *cough* Jr. *cough*
You do realize that this race was on a Tuesday right? of course the stands are going to be empty stop complaining and whining that you want the old system back you cant change things this system is here to stay for the near future.
What's with some of these comments saying "Jeff showed Jimmie how to get it done"? I think the seven-time champ knows how to get it done just fine on his own. He didn't need Gordon to show him anything.
This is why I considered Jeff Gordon the best driver in the field of the 2000s and early 2010s until he retired. Anyone else in that position, Jimmie would have passed them easily and drove on to the win.
So true. Truly one of the best drivers ever.
I remember running home from my bus stop in sixth grade to see this. Well worth it
Tyler Powers my 1st day of freshman year of high school this is what I remember the most
2011 was really the year that rejuvenated Jeff's career. He went through a pretty big(by his standards) slump, with only 1 win over the previous 3 seasons, and a lot of people seemed to think his best days were behind him. Glad he proved them all wrong.

I remember i almost cried because i had to work the day of this race. Great job Jeff
Not a Gordon fan but that was some great driving. He showed Johnson how to get it done
Johnson also did that as well to him in Martinsville 07
My favorite race and finish of the 2011 season. Just amazing to watch 2 of the sport's best duking it out for the win at one of NASCAR's most difficult tracks. Also, thrilling to see Jeff win! Career win #85 of 93!
What I found amazing was that Tony Stewart was 8th 10 seconds back with 11 togo and finished only 5 seconds behind up to 3rd in that short time.
Yeah I agree. Superman vs. The Rainbow Warrior. The ultimate showdown between the two best drivers of the sport, even driving sideways!!! I'm giving this battle 10 out of 10! Awesome finish!
One of Gordon's best races ever.
One of the best battles in NASCAR.
Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, the two best!
the master showing the student:)
This was the perfect way to win 85. The track where he made his 1st start and thats where it all started. BTW this was a very amazing race!!! Gordon is the best ever.
One of his best wins ever
but when you have talent behind the wheel like Jeff and Jimmie they can man handle these race cars and put on a great show.
Jeff Gordon winning at Atlanta motorspeedway was my 11th birthday present and it happened on my 11th birthday and my dad said he was thinking in his head Jeff Gordon said I'm gonna win for the birthday boy lol
THIS was the race and finish of 2011 in my opinion.
greatest of all time
This was my first race. Played hooky on my first day of high school to go with my parents :)
Rainbowarriors im very impressed u got most of jeff gordons wins! im a very die hard gordon fan. i really hope he comes back fore the 2012 championship
Back when the racing was truly exciting and thrilling and the cars drove great
Gotta be my favorite race of Jeff Gordon. Beat Jimmie Johnson nice and clean.. and show that Gordon is still the better driver than Johnson
24 for life
yeah man, I was at that race and there were a lot of fans that came back even though a tropical storm came through the day before. The biggest issue that weekend was that everyone had to go back to work or college (as it was on Labor Day Weekend) so many folks had no choice but not to comeback, but trust me, there were more than enough folks there
I wanna see this a lot more- two of the best going at it, but Jeff prevails at the end.
Wonder Boy is back!!!!!!!!!!!!:D Go #24
Never going to be the same when Jeff retires, but I'll be happy to see a talented driver like Chase Elliot taking over the #24. He was impressive in his first NCWTS race at Martinsville.
That would be awesome!! would love that for Jeff.
Tuesday after a Tropical Storm in fact. And I quite like the current point system.
Thumbs up if Jeff Gordon rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Daddy 24 back on top.. Love it!!!!
my bday!!! they raced on my bday!
I love when anybody from Hendrick wins, especially,Gordon because he gets closer to 100,Johnson just to add to his legacy,Kahne because he can drive like crazy and Jr so he can get his confidence back
jeff gordon showing lil jimmie how its done love it Gordon > Johnson
Lil Jimmie showed Jeff how it's done in 2007 after his dominating season. He did it in 06 too.and 07, 08, 09, 10, and 13
So you hate Jimmie Johnson and think that Danica Patrick is better than him... okay then
@@SirMan48 are you that stupid? Look at Jeff’s average 2007 finish. Much better than Jimmie’s!
i remember when i watched that race, i was on my knee's hoping that Gordon wins the race, and once that happened, i was jumping up and down, i was a very happy camper then, but it was the Chase that really got him snake bit, meaning he struggled big time, and i was pissed
WOOOOOO! TIME TO UPLOAD ANOTHER VIDEO!!!!!
YES!!! time for Number 86!!!!
BEST FINISH OF THE YEAR!!!
Thumbs up if you think 86 will come before 2011 is over!
greatest 10 laps
Only reason the seats were empty was because the race got postponed until Tuesday afternoon. Who's going to spend $50 to skip off work for a race? 'Course, being it's Atlanta, and Gordon won, I would've if I knew Jeff was going to win.
Jimmie Johnson, Chad Knaus, and Clint Bowyer disliked this video.
Jeff Gordon is the best driver in my opinion other than Dale Earnhardt
I think Jeff Gordon should just concentrate on breaking the Record Book. If he focus on being #2 on the All Time List for most wins, I bet he would win a championship easily along the way. The more races he wins the better chance of another championship. Just my opinion though.
Good finish
This reminds me of the 2003 Darlington race between Kurt Busch and Ricky Craven when both get loose and battle for the win and then Craven comes out with the closet margin in Nascar history
This was probably Jeff's hardest earned victory ever. Hey Rick Hendrick, does that remind you why you hired Jeff to drive for your team? Same track, different manufacture, same ol' Jeff Gordon.
Ive been to his every win.
sad to see how many empty seats there are . I wish nascar would go back to the old point system thumbs up if you agree
That's when racing was racing, not going in a corner on the last lap turning someone
The only race I have hard feelings for on Clint is the Phoenix race. Spring race at Martinsville, he got shoved by Newman. Fall race at M'ville, typical short track racing. Phoenix, wtf.
When people try to say JJ is better than Jeff, show them this video.
+Ryan Wile So apparently you can judge someone's skill on one race? K then
+Zachary Dalton It's just one example. Keep in mind, if not for the chase, the 7-time champion we'd be talking about wouldn't be Jimmie Johnson, it'd be Jeff Gordon.
6>4. Jeff is one of the all time greats but jj's gonna catch him
+Marco Flores I would really appreciate you not mentioning the whole 6-time champ thing, 'cause we all know the only reason JJ got half of his championships is because of the chase. He still would've had great seasons those years, don't get me wrong, but he should only be the 2006, 09, and 2013 champion. Jeff should be a 7-time champ. You know it, I know it, everybody who isn't brainwashed by Brian France's boloney knows it.
+nascarfanatic2425 Yep, I won't dog Jimmy, because he's good, but he's only a 3 time champion in my eyes.
Yes, you should be live streaming on to youtube obviously.
This comment was literally 30 minutes after he won Im not a robot and the comment wasnt all that rude.
What are the words beside Keselowski, Menard, Ambrose & Kyle Busch?
SuperNASCARrocks 2011 had a wildcard system for the Chase. 12 drivers, top 10 in points and then 2 wildcard drivers from 11th-20th that had a win. That thing you're seeing is just noting that they are eligible for that wildcard berth.
Rick better retire the good old 24 when Jeff retires
We saw how that worked out
i do too
his 86th win is coming in 2012
YOU NEED NUMBER 86!!!!
yup totally....
this race was raced on tuesday after sunday was rained out
monday
nova j.
Tuesday. It rained all day on Monday, but boy was it worth the wait!
Noah Coleman it rained on Sunday. They didn't race Monday because of labor day
Plus the new points system is so much simpler than the old one. If NASCAR needs to rid of anything its the Chase, or at least reformat it, along with the whole season.
hope u stayed safe 9 people got struck by lighting one died.
where is#86?
u should see how mad i was at that race, i posted it on facebook, i was pretty pissed
calm down jeez u expect me to upload right after he wins.
He almost caught him
@KKFan9 and Bad Knaus
Jimmie Johnson disliked this video...lol
Great win Jeff!
Same here. I lost all my respect for David Reutimann after that. That was his fault, whether he tried to stop on the track or not.
you don't see that in F1.
Well that race may have sucked, but he did get his revenge by turing Bowyer at the turn 4 wall, and hey, at least that Jeff wasn't winless in 2012, and the pattern was broken as well, so in all, at least Gordon won 2 races and that Johnson did not win the championship
cars THAT loose are usually running 20th a half second off the pace.
At the track where my fiancé died right outside of
Your a little rude, chill bud even tho you got a point
Yeah, I mean I'd like to see young Ryan Blaney given a try in Tommy Baldwin's car. Why the hell would you put a never-will-be in your ride? Then again, you need to spoil him to make him good. *cough* Jr. *cough*
Anybody who keeps asking why David Reutimann lost his ride at MWR, well that'd be why. 'Course, now I've lost my respect for Clint Bowyer, now.
Why are you so fuckin' rude! XDDDDDD
You do realize that this race was on a Tuesday right? of course the stands are going to be empty stop complaining and whining that you want the old system back you cant change things this system is here to stay for the near future.
unlucky, haha :)
At least, hopefully not. Wish Jeff would've got a little bit better respect for that, though. Some fans are just so misunderstanding/stupid.
Im sure that isnt true but whatever...
What's with some of these comments saying "Jeff showed Jimmie how to get it done"?
I think the seven-time champ knows how to get it done just fine on his own. He didn't need Gordon to show him anything.
Jeff should have more titles than he has the Chase system has robbed him of like 3 titles
