    I have been a fan of Jeff Gordon his entire stock car career. I am a native of indiana, and when NASCAR came to indy back in the 90's, true fans of Jeff probably lost the chance of him ever getting in an Indy car... I am fortunate to work for a company that sponsors Jeff and his race team and for the past 8 years, I have been blessed to be in the Dupont hospitality tent the day of the race. I have been there in that tent for 3 of his 4 wins @ indy... He spoke each time before he won the race.

    #85 Shouldve happened a week sooner at Bristol. I was on the front row of the start finish just knowing he was gonna win #85 that night and I was gonna be right there to celebrate it. Either way here's to the greatest damn driver of our time! 85 and more to come. Championships too! JG24EVER!

    Yes he is a 4 time champion but if the points system never changed he would be a 6 time champion. He would have won the title in 2004 and 2007.

    Jeff has had cars like this for most of the second half of the year, even in the Chase, but his luck has been absolutely TERRIBLE. Wrecks, fuel cell issues, mechanical issues, and betrayal at Talladega...he's had awesome cars week in and week out. I love his chances to win multiple races again with Alan at the helm.

    @kingofrunescapepking 11 лет назад +1

    Yeah, but there really was nobody better than him in 2007, he earned almost 5500 points just on his finishes that season. And under the old format, he would have clinched at Texas despite Jimmie winning that race

    Anybody else who's done it 85+ times would get tired of it. Just goes to show how much this sport means to not only him, but every driver who wins. Well, Jimmie Johnson celebrates, but he's not emotional about his wins. He just wins, "Oh it was great!" then walks away.

    Exactly. Chad Knaus openly admits that the 48 team doesn't push itself to it's full potential until the chase is on, so who knows how hard they'd race, what chances they'd take, etc. if the old system was in place.

    i dont care what the chase says. Dale Sr. won 7 championships under a proper point system; whoever hast he most points at the end of the season wins it. Simple and it make sense. Gordons a six time champ. Sure some say im delirious, but ppl who think Jimmie is better than jeff, their delirious!

    @BLUExEYEDxSLICKT 12 лет назад

    Jr will win the championship. He was the best average finisher in the chase races this year with a average 6.2. If Jr runs those chase races like he did earlier this year, the championship is his.

    I think the ending of this race clearly shows how talented of a driver Jeff Gordon is. Yes, his team and crew chief are fantastic too, giving him a great car, but he deserves a TON of credit for driving the car that good when it was loose and he had a 5-time champion just feet behind him with a couple of laps to go. That was a fantastic show of pure driving talent by the best DRIVER ever in NASCAR, PERIOD.

    I don't understand you people who seem to discount all the championships Jimmie or anybody else wins under the chase system. You don't know how the teams would race under the older system today. Sometimes drivers have to drive more conservatively to stay in the top 10 instead of taking chances for a win, pit strategy might be less risky, etc. because of the chase. You can't look at the chase seasons and say "well if it were the old system," because they aren't racing like it's the old system.

    @steelcagechaos1 That's all right. Not that he and Alan have a full season under their belts, I think they'll be much better in 2012. Remember 2007, after Gordon and LeTarte had one full season under their belts? It was an incredible season, and Alan and Jeff were getting better and better as this season went on. I expect better things next year.

    @blkmarket Gordon used to be kind of a wild driver wrecking people left and right in his early years. I would assume that lead to a lot of people disliking him. Plus in any sport when a team or in this case driver wins a lot they get booed just because they are good. Gordon has more control now on the track and because of not winning a championship in so long I think it has made fans forget why they disliked him in the first place. I'm no Gordon fan but it was nice to see him win today...

    in my opinion gordon is better than earnhart because back in the 80s when earnhardt won alot there werent very many challengers. back then you knew there would be a few drivers you knew who would be the winner. now these days the competition level is harder and gordon got to the 76 wins faster than earnhardt did

    Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Dale Sr. was one of the best, but Dale would in no way, shape, or form have 10 titles. Hell, the last title he got was 1994, and he was going to be 50 years old. And Jeff has beaten Dale Sr. to the line at many tracks on many occasions. I don't wanna say Jeff>Dale or vise versa, but they're both talented, and Dale's already in the HOF- Jeff's going to join after he retires. Dale Jr.'s gonna make it too, but not 'cause of his "talent."

    I think you're forgetting that the only reason Jeff lost 2004 and 2007 was 'cause of the stupid chase format. Jeff would only be one championship behind Dale Sr. if it weren't for the chase. Besides, I'd rather have 4 Winston Cup championships than 2 Busch Series championships. Plus, you look at those 85 wins: 3 of them were Daytona 500s- something Dale Sr. won only once. 4 of them were Brickyard 400s- also something Dale Sr. won only once. I could go on, but I'm outta characters.

    I'm sure Jimmie would have won many championships if they didn't run the chase. Everyone's mentality would be different. They wouldn't use the first 26 as test races essentially. I think people forget Jimmie led the points in his rookie year and won 3 races. In his second season he finished 2nd in the championship. Like Tony said, there is no discussion about the point system. It's not the old system. Everyone knows that. They run for the chase. Anyway, Jimmie has 60+ wins in roughly 11 seasons

    ummm no sorry dude but dale earnhardt is the greatest driver in the histor of nascar. ya its true that jeff has more wins then dale but that only bcuz he died in a wreck that anybody could have died in but it just happened to be dale. He would at least won 10 championships if he headnt been in that wreck. And YES he WAS pursuied by a 5 time but what if he was pursuied by a time time dale sr.? then no he would have not won that race. DALE SR. IS THE BEST RACER IN NASCAR HISTORY PERIOD!
