Gordon was on the djr dl talking about the racing at restrictor plates, all the Hendrick and dei cars had the money to win, but Gordon and Jr, they knew how to use those cars. I think the greatest finish was when Gordon made that last lap pass in the cot. Pulling Infront of stewart at the very final second he had to do that. It's still an unbelievable move. Gordon was the man.
Dude, the way he just eased over and went past the 1, past the 29, and past 15 BY HIMSELF is just unreal for Talladega. That car had another gear in it compared to the rest and it also had the GOAT.
Watching Jeff Gordon race in the day was ABSOLUTE JOY! He was the most exciting driver I have ever watched, pure and simple! He retired way too early as far as I am concerned! I am happy for Jeff and his family though!
I agree with everything you're saying accept for the retirement part. His back just couldn't take much more. But I will say a 50% Gordon was much better than 90% of the field on their best day.
Jeff Gordon is the Nascar GOAT!! When he announced his retirement it was very shocking and sad. I had hoped he would at least race at the restrictor plate race tracks, Daytona and Talladega, and the, .5mi tracks Bristol Tn and Martinsville Va. I do appreciate that he is in the booth for half the season, listening to his commentary...we are lucky to still be able to enjoy his personality, and be able to occasionally see his stats. I miss that #24 Drive to End Hunger, AARP, Axalta, Chevy SS, there will never be another driver that matches Jeff Gordon in driving skills, personability with fans, and aall the great things he's done for charities within the sport and outside racing. A fan forever of Jeff Gordon and that beautiful #24!
Everybody was talking how Truex had the most dominant car they have ever seen in a race at Charlotte a few weeks back. IMO the 24 car at this race is the most dominant car I have ever seen.
That's a great feat no doubt, but you can open up a gap at New Hampshire and if you have long runs and everyone one pits when you pit then it's possible to so what he did. At a plate track though where the whole field is bunched up the whole race and there are more passes for the lead than any other tracks, Gordon did a awesome job. Again though Truex and Burtons performances are jus as great too.
It was my favorite race win, and I saw him win in 2006 at Sonoma, because it’s Star Wars Pepsi and it was on my 13th birthday so I was so excited about it
I remember when I was a little kid watching this race. I really wanted Jeff to win in that Star Wars car because I was going through a Star Wars phase then. I would be on the verge of tears whenever he lost the lead because I loved that car and wanted to see it win. lol
Jeff's car was star wars and had Yoda on the hood. my favorite car ever driven by Jeff. And yes it was untouchable. I am surprised he did not get the pole. I also like his hot hues car as well, but he dominated in this one!
One of strongest restrictor plate cars I’ve ever seen in a race Gordon could pass cars by himself without help from bump drafting His car could go could high or low it didn’t matter That Pepsi car was awesome
daniel shook yep you could put the 8 car number on it like in 2002 couldnt tell the difference also jeffs 07 spring dega car which he won was no slouch either
This car along with dale jr’s 2001 Daytona Pepsi 400 car maybe the two strongest restrictor plate cars I’ve ever seen Gordon’s car could pass anyone by himself Didn’t need no help at all Took two to three cars lined up just to get by him He was that strong this race
+Paul Fischer See Atlanta 2011 battle. Last 11 laps. Oh who has more wins by the way? Not to mention Gordon would have 8 championships if not for the chase.
This might be the best car relative to the competition I've ever seen. Kane's Mopar ride that blew a tire comes to mind, Dale Jarrett's car for his last win at Dega was also crazy fast, but the way Gordon could do it with no help anywhere on the track was so unreal. Just had to shake your head and be grateful you got to watch it
9 ends and a avg finish of 17.8 no way in hell he was going to make the chase let alone compete for a championship yeah he had 4 wins but after talladega he didn't win until the 2nd martinsville race
05 was a off year for f Gordon and Jr after having incredible 2004 seasons . I believe Loomis leaving was the issue same with the eurys and Jr breaking up which was the worst move in his career
It was always Earnhardt country in Dega. So that is why the fans always booed him. But even they had to cheer Gordon after this great race. He earned that.
Yes, those two. That one at Martinsville in 2012 was rough. It should've been Jeff to get the 200th win. The one at Richmond in 2010 wasn't a GWC but the restart killed Jeff's chances. I think he finished 2nd like 9 times in 2010. If he could've had a little luck there would've been some wins there. At Chicago he finished 2nd to David Reutimann. I think 2013 will be better for Jeff Gordon and Team#24.
I remember this race so well, Gordon had such a strong car that day. He led almost the whole race and nobody could fend him off. I remember it pissed me off so bad how he could just pass 3 cars in a line like nothing haha. And being the Dale Jr fan I am I through the remote when he got in that last crash haha.
I agree. The #24 has been the strongest car in the draft over the years, but more recently, one of the unluckiest. Hopefully that changes tonight though in the 600!
I'm pretty sure in victory lane, Jeff stated that the engine they picked for that car was the last plate engine Randy Dorton had built before the plane crash. Said he had Randy under the hood of that car
Why is 2011 pocono the #1? Lol. Wasn't all that special. Many more races could beat that one. Unless of course, you were there in person. That'd be the only reason

Yukizboy I agree, to lead that many laps at a plate track where you constantly have cars on your bumper, and he just drove through them with no help
Jeff Burton once led every lap then won. I think that's gotta be the benchmark.
That's a great feat no doubt, but you can open up a gap at New Hampshire and if you have long runs and everyone one pits when you pit then it's possible to so what he did. Hard to believe this was Loomis' last win as Gordon's crew chief.

Jeff Gordon Wins
I loved when Jeff raced with Pepsi cars. The thing I want to know is why aren’t the restrictive plate racing today aren’t as spaced out as this race?
They weren't spaced out. That pack is what was left after the big one.
That 1 car took a HUGE lick
There were only 10 out of 43 that didn't get into any wrecks, or had issues with their cars. That's 23 percent of the field.
This Pepsi car had the 'Force'
This car and the silver pepsi billion car dominated both of their plate races. so dominante
