As someone who enjoys a post apocalyptic aesthetic, Mad Max and Planet of the Apes doing so well makes me very happy

@@DaddyChilIMad Max sequels were never believable. Just say you can't get laid and move on.
Miller is great at telling a story without dialog. Really respects the audience to be paying attention and actors to show what he wants. I don't need you to explain how shit is going all the time. In Fury Road their is the 40 minute-ish arc where Max and Furiosa slowly go from wanting to kill each other to trusting and relying on one another and they never talk about it but you 100% understand how their relationship is changing and its current status the whole time.
Him and Genndy Tartakovsky are both great at doing minimal dialogue with maximum impact.
Can you please explain the story for me. Can't find it online. And yes, I have watched the movie. Both of them.
What JJ said makes me wonder. What crazy situation brought about the need for pole cats? Do they train regularly? Are they like firefighters, just waiting for the next call? The war boys make more sense in that their purpose is very generalized. Whereas pole cats, are a very specific skill set. So, at what point after the apocalypse did someone say, 'We're gonna need a crew that can pluck other people from moving vehicles.'
Probably around the same time people used moving vehicles to get away from them?? It kinda makes sense. If you try and stop a fast moving vehicle there's a good chance either the people in it or your own people die in a crash. If you can just pluck 'em out before the vehicle crashes tho... much better.
Watch the first one again. A bit past the halfway point the bad guys try raiding gas from a moving tanker. There's a small motiif there that might hint an answer to your question ;)
There's a scene in Furiousa that shows warboys using a long board to swing from the roof of a truck cab to the top of the tanker, and I thought, "There's the beginning of the poles they use in Fury Road."
I love both of these movies but this one has a few bad CGI moments that stood out so much because everything else looked so good
I do feel like George Miller is one of those directors who often gets forgotten in the list of master Directors we commonly associate their great movies with. You have Scorsese, Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, Kubrick, Scott but so rarely does George Miller get mentioned. I sort of put George Miller in the same category as a James Cameron simply because he doesn’t make a movie very often but when he does, it’s like holy sh*t! This is on another level! Miller is pushing 80 years old and is making other action directers look like kids playing with sticks in the neighbors backyard. I do feel like George Miller deserves to be mentioned more as part of these great directors.
True 🎉
He's like the post apocalypse Leone.

@@corvus8638 joke of a comment. One of the greatest world builders of cinema.
You'll rarely hear action/sci-fi directors put on "greatest of all time", sometimes even Animation directors get more prestige.
Which is funny because the core of cinema ia the ability to tell a story in moving images, even iver dialogue or any other words.
The one advantage of cinema is telling a story in moving pictures, while books and other mediums focus on words. But somehow, cinemaphiles have forgotten that and the many of the public give more credit to directors that give dramatic stories, even if their actual images on camera are bad stories scene after scene.

June 2015. It was my first week living in Germany. Birthday plans fell through due to train delays so we decided to go to the cinema instead. Looked up what was on. Jurassic Park or Mad Max. Makes sense, since Fury Road was originally supposed to be animated since he wasn't sure if he could do the visuals and action in live action. Obviously he changed his mind but it is interesting to think about
I really love the middle of the move, it has all the best actions. But the ending could be better. I hope there is a big final battle between Immortal Joe and Dementus' army. But they just skip the whole scene with script and a few scene.
The overall the movie is great. I watched it in 4dx. I hope there will be a next Mad Max movie!
This is a textbook example of a bad movie. A complete nothing of a movie. A bland, soulless, completely CGI origin prequel for a character everyone hated. Your Bane impression has always been spot on. I feel like you could voice him.
If George was still younger... then yea he wouldn't resort to heavy CGI and in-studio location. I think Fury Road took a toll on him being in harsh locations all the time from what I read.
The cgi is only for background replacement. All the vehicle stunts are practical . He was recovering from a heart operation BEFORE he started filming fury road so he was a bit exhausted at the start
@@GrommoIt looks similar to the Fall Guy practical stunts with a smear of CGI over the top that diminishes them. There was also a lot of speed ramping that, while an intentional style choice, added to the cartoony fake feel of a lot of the effects.
@@franciscopozole George has used speed ramping on every single mad max film in every action sequence. Its his style. Why change?

Also, props to Hemsworth for perfectly playing the Mad Max villain we haven't seen yet: the verbose charlatan. I have to believe he went to Chris Evans for advice on achieving Maximum Scumbaggery, because Dementus is a glorious scumbag.
Chris Hemsworth being cast against type as a villain is something i'm looking forward too. If you're doubting him as a villain, please see the underrated movie, Bad Times At The El Royale. Hemsworth can definitely play a villain perfectly!

We had a very weird wake. My mother died and we had her funeral and her 3 brothers who I hadn't seen since I was a child were in my house and we all watched Fury Road as a new release in my home that night. Surreal.
The CGI in the first trailer had me worried. Sad that it wasn't just the trailer. Still, I'll be seeing this. Sounds head and shoulders better than the drek Disney has been producing.
I thought it was a bit random to make a Furiosa prequel, but with a good director and good actors I’m definitely going to check it out. There’s at least going to be some soul to it unlike Disney
I was really worried about it too but the actual film looks leagues better than the trailers. The trailer looked like a rough draft by comparison, and I never really found myself distracted by it.
Don't worry, it looked great. There was only two small moments in it where I noticed the CGI being a bit off. It was a goddamn blast and Miller crushed it again! Worthy the ticket price 100%

George Miller was originally trained as a medical doctor. FYI
Mad Max 1 was supposed to be about an EMT loosing his sanity after loosing patients, friends and family. But his profession was changed to an MFP cop since it was unrealistic to have an EMT’s family be targeted by criminals.

I agree because It generally means the movie is actually good. Jeremy isn't a sell out like some of the other RUclips reviewers have become.....
This film was atrocious. No wonder it did not make its budget in the box office. Idk what is that conspiracy here on youtube or who pays you, but the movie is complete ass.

So basically its not bettrr then fury road 😂
It's hard to top fury road, tbh
I mean does it have to be? As long as the movie is still a good watch then I'm all in
Visible or invisible CG - I don't blame George Miller one bit for using it. The scale of this film is huge and Miller is almost 80 years old. Last thing we want is him getting a heart attack because a practical stunt went wrong. It's a miracle as is that nobody died making this.
For sure. I'm sure they would have gone the Fury Road route if it was feasible.
This is a bs mentality. People shouldn't compromise on quality out of fear of possibilities. Otherwise, we wouldn't have gotten some of the greatest movies of all time. These people know what job they're taking; they know the risks; we honor them in case anything bad happens, because of that risk. If you're afraid of him being too old, maybe you should instead advocate that he doesn't produce this type of movie at all, since the downgrades only serve to stain his legacy.
The only reason there was any significant cgi in this was to do background replacement of vegetation due to the constant rain over months of location shooting and maintain continuity on the war rig .... ie practical explosions on the war rig chrome look required ages to clean and reset between takes, so separately shot elements were more time efficient . George was very worried about the danger of the flying sequences and rightly so. The turbulence from a truck and parafoils and hangliders in close proximity is not a good mix. But the shots of the mortifliers taking off skiing behind motorbikes and flying up and over the top of the speeding war rig were NOT bluescreen but filmed practically. from ingenious practical rigs. If only people realised that the stunts they assume are cgi were mostly practical.
@@heyheyhey33351 They did go the fury road route. There was 9+months of location shooting on Furiosa doing real practical stunts with real stunt vehicles, . So outdoor location tests and filming footage started in january and went all the way to November at Kurnel. There were more vehicles built for the film than they had time to film or feature with trackwheeled bikes, a ww2 tank, converted snowmobiles , a monster mercury cougar v8 interceptor, Hugh Keas-Byrnes own converted 4x4 barely getting flashes of screentime. That will have to wait for the freezeframe when it eventually streams or releases on blueray
@@shefalichow7917furiosa is great , contrary to what you say, in my opinion it just makes me like miller even more
I think I've said this before, but Jeremy is the only RUclipsr that I watch even through the ads without skipping 😂
Love your insights on Furiosa, definitely going to check it out now.
I'm not used to Jeremy having humans legs...
Amazing video by the way 💪
"Road Warrior" was the greatest installment of the Mad Max saga in my humble opinion.
easily
same hey, though each installment is so unique and brings something more to the mad max universe
When Road Warrior came out, I had no idea it was a sequel. in fact, I didn't watch the original Mad Max until years after Road Warrior came out.
No question! That film can't be topped.
@@stevenwojtysiak6392 The original Mad Max was a cult classic. I find it amusing that they dubbed Mel Gibson’s voice because of his very heavy Aussie accent. 😆The final scene was brutally epic.
Thanks Jeremy you have convinced me to take the plunge on this one.
This movie was not goood, the last 40 minutes was so boring... I was waiting for a big battle scene but damn i saw a very boring chase...
I gave a lot of credit to the make up but another reviewer said the seams on the applications were obvious in IMAX.
!!!!
I'll wait till wednesday, when i've seen it, to watch this. Just posting for algorithm.
Eastwood, Scorcese, and Miller are so legendary for their age to do movies
I hope Clint Eastwood's new movie is worth it. It has said that it's going to be his final movie before retirement. They just wrapped post production a few weeks ago
Anya Taylor Joy got this role after Edgar Wright recommended her to George Miller.
Edgar Wright being awesome, yet again.
she’s overrated _a.f._
Anya "The Eyeball" T.J
She's weak. Not a very good actress
Did you know she still doesn’t have a drivers license?
Gotta give you credit.the sponsor segment was creative😂
If you've played the video game and read the graphic novel.. It makes this movie like eight times better. Because I can pick out specific cars from the game.
Thank you for putting your" Ad " at the beginning of your vids, (to think, I pay RUclips for ad-free video watching) Your reviews are always entertaining and well though out.
Keep up the great work!
