You have no idea how much I appreciate that you still upload. I've been subbed to you on 3 different accounts, starting over 10 years ago when I was still a child. Thank you, Evan.
32:53 Have you ever thought of doing a Top 5 or Top 10 list of your favourite Expanded Universe duels (either specifically in novels or including all formats such as comics, the SWTOR Cinematics and 2003 Clone Wars)?
Fantastic video as usual! Would you ever be interested in doing one of these ranking videos for Vader's apprentices? I don't think people realize just how many he had in legends and I think it'd be neat to rank them even if everyone knows Galen Marek and Lumiya will be at the top of the ranking
@@Wes_Bradley-Taubnerand I guess the Dark Apprentice clone? While the non canon ending is…non canon, the unlockable cutscenes showing his training are so he does exist in legends canon
This is gonna be very informative and entertaining. BTW bro Star Wars Theory and Stupendous Wave mentioned you, Jensaarai1, and Antoine Bandele again during one of their podcast episodes. They know you man, and they spoke very highly of you. Just thought you should know. 👍🏼
This may sound odd but I’m actually glad that Disney isnt working on the EU. They’d just ruin, I’d much rather have the EU continued by someone who really knows the lore and is passionate about like Evan.
@@alsimmonshellspawn6021, you say that as if the EU writers (or hell, Lucas himself) have done a good job of that. 😅 Star Wars has ALWAYS had plenty of inconsistencies. You don’t get to pretend it’s only been a thing since Disney. 😂
I remember I used to watch your stuff maybe 5-7 years ago, stopped for a long while for whatever reasons (new interests and stuff), and rediscovered your stuff months ago. I am very glad I did.
Hey Evan! To not make it overly sappy and cringe, Star Wars is my home away from home. My favorite thing in the entire world outside of my loved ones and I just wanted to thank you for uploading this and all your other content. My friends are casual Star Wars fans at best so conversations about the books and Legends content takes place between me, myself and I lol. This channel and community make me so happy because it’s so fun to hear and talk to other people who are just as passionate about these characters and this universe as I am. Long story short, keep it up and may the force be with you!
Not cringe at all my friend. I too am the only one in my social life who loves Legends Star Wars. Only got like 2 friends who know a bit about legends, but not enough for a whole conversation about legends. *sigh* if only my dad liked Legacy of the Force instead of the Sequel Trilogy. But yeah, that’s the beauty of Versus Series. It’s the safe haven for us Legends fans to discuss Legends Star Wars.
I def get the feel. Not cringe. These videos are always great listens and the comment sections are always great. There have been some crazy conversations that Ive had over the years. Even though my interested in legends has waxed over the years, I still come back.
For a potential post NJO Council member ranking Q&A video: 1) Who is your favourite NJO Jedi besides Luke? 2) Which NJO Council member would get along well with the Prequel era Council the best? 3) Would Yoda approve of Luke getting married?
Evan bro, I know you're not big on monetizing your videos, but you really should. I have been a fan for YEARS and have gotten countless hours of entertainment from your work. I find myself consistently coming back to your channel even when there isn't a new upload just to listen to you. You've got that special energy that makes listening feel like hanging out with a friend and just nerding out. That combined with your passion and love for what you make, give your videos enough light side energy to counteract any negatives from monetization.Your content is good, and you deserve to make a little money from your work.
Thank you, Evan. It’s my birthday and waking up to see this is genuine surprise, I’ve been looking forward to this one. Thank you for still making videos, it’s a blessing, truly
@@WeaponsRemorsehe dropped the prequel Jedi council ranking video on my birthday😂😅 you are now the second person in this comment section I’ve seen whose birthday is on Dec 11th
Video is so well made as usual and the rankings are so fleshed out again! I guess I personally would have the same order except I would have jaina in the A tier behind Saba, her combat skill as sword of the Jedi would be top tier but she’s never shown power feats to really put her over those 3 there, if the series continued she could have shown more power but since they ended I don’t think she got to that point
Congratulations, your videos are always exceptional! You research every single thing, and always justify your view or your decisions. It's always a pleasure listening to your ranking or versus videos! Congratulations and greetings from Greece 🇬🇷
Evan I was just annoyed about not having enough time tonight to watch an entire Star Wars film and you bless me with this. Perfect time before work. 12 hour shift ahead 😅. In the future could we get a few more down to coruscant match ups? Lighter powered characters compared to the sithari gods and skywalker powerhouses in the latest show downs. If I could make a few suggestions I would be over the moon to see match ups like: Aura Sing Vs Kamari Vosa Rahm Kota Vs Ferus Olin Star Forge Bastila Vs Barris Offee Sharad Hett Vs Yaddle Kir Kanos Vs Proxy
I think my only issue with this is your assertion that Kyle and Caedus’s fight was close…it was not. Overlooking the text in the fight, Kyle was unable to land a single hit on Jacen. In fact, the text makes it very clear that twice over, trying to hit Jacen nearly resulted in him being murdered outright.
Agreed. Kyle had a team of Jedi helping him, they had prep time to strategize, had the element of surprise, and Caedus was recovering from injuries from his Luke fight. And yet even with those advantages, Kyle still got defeated in a few pages
jacen personally and explicitly states kyle is a genuine threat, and that the others (even collectively) were not. Getting a hit does not inherently mean you were equal, nor does not getting one mean it was a stomp or easy fight for the enemy.
@@firstnamelastname9237 Kyle is nearly killed a few seconds into the fight, tbh. It wasn't very close. Although then again, later on Caedus also is having his guard battered down by one of the random fodder Jedi, so, eh.
@ But wasn’t. Technically jedi are nearly killed constantly, their precog and reflexes are all that prevent that. Also, it’s really consistent with caedus and kyles showings. Kyle, while regularly not as powerful outright as luke, often takes on very similarly rated threats just with more difficulty. He’s not on *par* with caedus, but he’s closer to caedus than caedus is to luke (who he only manages to not die to at all, while at home advantage, because he had lukes son there and was torturing him). This is further shown by luke being confident he could win, but more concerned he’d become a problem himself instead.
This was a great ranking Evan. Once more you deliver with flying colors. As always I have a couple of suggestions for your consideration. Versus Match: Aayla Secura vs Luminara Unduli Story of: Final Battle between Darth Caedus & Jaina Solo Countdown: Another Top 6 or even 10 lightsaber designs Best or favorite non-force users in Star Wars characters
A blessing, a blessing from the Lord! Evan be praised! Very informative video, though I admit I thought Saba would be higher than Kyle! Love your work and have you thought about doing a Sith scaling video? Maybe top 10 strongest?
I think one of Mara Jade Skywalker's most impressive/unique feats was when she levitated herself while sneaking around Correllia in Legacy of the Force.
It would be interesting to see a ranking on the Order of the Sith Lords (Bane through Palpatine/Vader), the Emperors Hands, the One Sith and the Lost Tribe of the Sith. And if doing a non Force-based (Jedi/Sith) ranking is interesting to you, perhaps a ranking of greatest pilots (Han Solo, Wedge Antilles, Soontier Fel, etc) or admirals/fleet commanders and possibly other ideas
@@TinyTorahOnly if you actually believe in bane’s concept, which is sketchy at best anyway. But you also have sith explicitly *not* following his methods for how it’s supposed to work, Sidious notoriously doing so.
@@firstnamelastname9237 , me personally, I think it’s plenty fair to believe IN GENERAL, the Rule of Two got stronger over time. That said, there were of course… hiccups. 😅 Gravid destroying a majority of the accumulated Sith knowledge on sorcery and alchemy for example FOR SURE didn’t help things, and then, as you mentioned, numerous Banite Sith didn’t properly adhere to Bane’s ideals, and instead killed their masters via trickery or opportunity rather than an outright challenge. So yeah, while perhaps the Banite Sith grew stronger over time in a general sense, it’s also quite likely that not literally every apprentice surpassed their master. 👍
@@TinyTorah Yeah fair enough lol. Also I would agree that it did seem to get stronger. But I do think it's more in spite of the rule of two than because of it. It did afterall take a VERY long time before they got anyone even sort of akin to Vitiate's power level, and even with the power, the knowledge base was so low by comparison. Though admittedly that was more gravid's doing. But that was kind of only possible BECAUSE the sith were so heavily confined. Of course, on the other hand, no rule of two means no secrecy, and the sith had already lost nearly every single time they fought the jedi. With their few victories being very shortlived. I'd argue it was secrecy that saved them, not power. I still don't like the rule of two conceptually because it puts them on the verge of extinction ALL the time, and compared to previous eras, took a lot more effort for just a very slightly longer version of what the triumvirate achieved (or what the eternal empire achieved, if you consider them to be sith-ish).
@@timothycambron, they were basically doing this stuff simultaneously with Evan and Jensaarai, and they all occasionally collaborated. Evan and Jensaarai were arguably the worst of them all, and unfortunately THEY are the ones who didn’t stop making content.
@@timothycambron I can only speculate. With GreyJedi, given he posted the least out of all of them, it was probably far less a priority in his life, and so I assume life picked up for him (hopefully in a good way), and he stopped making (SW) videos altogether. With Antoine, since he was more active, I wouldn’t be surprised if the fandom becoming more toxic was a factor, given he still makes videos, but he’s almost entirely stopped making any SW content, and has essentially made a 100% pivot into Avatar (The Last Airbender) content. He also has written a book series that’s been published! 👍
I agree with the entire list except I do think a reasonable argument can be made that Kyp is in S tier with Luke and Jaina. At the bottom of the list. However I feel like the black hole feat is enough to put him in that same degree as the Skywalkers in S. But I respect your opinion!
C tier for Corran and Mara is wild imo. Dude has been frequently been compared to Kyle and Kyp and he's a C tier? I don't really get it. Mara did far better than Kyle against Caedous who almost got stomped immediately and Corran's tk weakness is negligible. Real featwise, Mara and Corran probably scale above Kyle. Still a great video though, i really enjoyed it
I have watched you forever and up until the summer I have never read a legends novel and always remember back and reference things from your videos to help me understand some of the stories . also so far I only read post ender stuff so I was waiting for this to come out it was a great video keep up the great work.
Jaina's showings against Caedus is heavily misrepresented in this video. Caedus was multiple cuts above her, Jaina admitted multiple times that her brother would kill her in a force duel if he wanted. In the first duel, Jaina didn't win, because at the end she could barely swing her saber while Caedus could still deflect blaster bolts with ease, and she admitted herself that the fact that her brother was still standing is proof that his force powers far exceed hers. She was massively amped by Luke, such that when she felt the loss of the amp, she became a shadow of when she engaged her brother. In the second duel, Caedus basically ragdolled her. She cheapshotted him with a saber to the gut, which would have killed or at least incapacitated literally any other human (Caedus did the same to Katarn and it ended the fight instantly), yet Caedus remained conscious enough to send a force wave that made Jaina wish she was dead. The only reason why it was close was 1. Caedus was seriously injured, and 2. Caedus was more focused on saving his daughter. Take away either of his physical or mental advantages, and Caedus would stomp her. The fact that it was a draw at the end of it (Caedus could have taken her down with him) is proof that Jaina dosen't stand a chance against her brother in a fair fight. Jaina is at best a low A tier character. Any character who stands at the apex of the food chain would slap her into a coma.
True Jaina ecan said that when Jacen was meditating he got so intunned with the force that it looks like he was fading in and out of existence and he was growing more powerful rapidly only flew force users had archive that such as exar kun vitiate papaltine luke Jacen solo anakin solo and anakin Skywalker
I was thinking the same and I say peak Jaina in FOTJ when she becomes Jedi Master pulled off her best feats like fighting 1000s of Lost Tribe of the Sith members for days with little sleep which also Corran Horn pulled off as well whom is a high C tier I think she too belongs A tier, Kyp Durron should be S Tier demonstrating planetary lvl Feats in the NJO only second to Luke Skywalker they just kinda Gohan’d him having him sidelined during LOTF and FOTJ cause he’s not a main character or a Skywalker/Solo, Jaina was clearly dead sub average in LOTF Jedi Knight level only getting a amp between LOTF to FOTJ to be average Council level at best even then Kyp ragdolls her in Dark Journey novel with ease we clearly know she was beneath him the entire NJO and LOTF you mean to tell me she can become stronger than him in that one power amp that suggests she is mid level Council level at best with a character that can rival Darth Krayt, Darish Vol, Sarasu Taalon, Shimrra Jamaane and stronger than Darth Caedus, Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious Reborn, Darth Plagueis? I don’t think so. I would put Saba Sebatyne over Kyle Katarn and Jaina because I don’t know how’d they hold off against a Avatar of Abeloth acknowledged it’s only a fraction of true Abeloth’s power even then speaks volumes, well I know Jedi Master Jaina wouldn’t pull off what Saba did maybe Kyle could so I would say peak prime FOTJ Jaina is little below Kyle Katarn if not equal. In conclusion fair assessment to place FOTJ/Crucible Jaina A tier definitely above Mara Jade and Corran Horn, LOTF Jaina is a mid C tier at best not near Council level.
I would also add Darth Krayt, Kyp Durron, Darish Vol these are all characters that directly scale off of GM Luke Skywalker and few characters that can actually rival him.
Jaina is, by all appearances, pathetic. She literally does not possess a single impressive feat or accolade to her name besides beating Tsavong Lah with a cheapshot, and that one accolade from FOTJ that she is the 'equal to anyone in the Order' or some such in lightsaber skill, which is virtually worthless unless you happen to unironically take it 100% seriously and believe Jaina is = Luke. The idea she is, in any way, shape or form comparable to Caedus is absurd.
@@papapalps2415I love Jaina as a character, but she is massively overrated. Random question, who do you think is the strongest version of Legends Darth Sidious or Legends Yoda that Jaina Solo could defeat? Cause I’ve seen MANY people say she oneshots Yoda and beats DE Sidious, so wanted to see if you scale her massively above the PT.
K'Kruhk with hat not in S Tier? This list is ass. But seriously, thank you Evan for continuing to upload another great video. And for giving NJO the respect it deserves.
And then we have to consider that there were implications that Allana Djo Solo might surpass them all (though since she wasn't in Star Wars Legacy we can't even speculate)
I might have put Mara a tier higher, but this is legit! Also does anyone else feel like Kyp got wasted as a character in the later NJO/legacy books? Like they set him up to be this heavy hitter and even potential Sith candidate but he just fades into the background.
Dude is like Chozen from Cobra Kai in Season 6. So overpowered that they had to limit how many fights he had against major opponents in later stories so that he wouldn’t end the plot right then and there. Had Mara or Kyle brought Kyp to fight Caedus, Caedus would’ve been killed so easily. Kyp can’t solo Caedus, but him assisting Mara or Kyle would’ve certainly guaranteed death for the Sith Lord
True the jedi academy guide said sith kyp durrun was already in darth vader range of raw force power, but later on they nerfed him to put anakin solo Jacen and Jaina on top
@Wes_Bradley-Taubner I don't quite buy that but I get it. I'd agree with you had they handled him consistently from the start. Caedus pretty much low diffed Kyle, which is crazy in itself, and apparently in FOTJ Kyle and Kyp were about the same level?
@@kirtmanwaring3629by feats, Kyle is a much better duelist but kyp is a much better force user. If Caedus had to deal with Kyle in a duel while also defending against kyp’s force attacks, he’d probably lose. The speeder move he used to hit Kyle in the back and into his lightsaber wouldn’t have worked if Kyp was there to throw the speeder at Caedus
As a huge Kyp Durron fan he is my second favorite Jedi in all of canon SW that is 6 George Lucas movies and the EU right behind Luke Skywalker. With all that said I agree they what I like to call Gohan’d him see cause he was built up to be a prodigy in the Jedi Academy Trilogy even with Gantoris before him whom we knew was killed by Exar Kun’s spirit important part as it is a pivotal moment of Luke doubting his capability of a Jedi Master but anyways there is lot of promise to be showed in the Climax of Champions Of The Force, we seen what a monster he is in the NJO novels really true threat to the Vong seeming second to Luke and then LOTF and on he gets sidelined possibly cause he is not a Skywalker/Solo character because Jaina unfortunately becomes the main protagonist and Luke with Anakin Solo and Jacen whom became Caedus dead and FOTJ more so Luke and Ben as Father n Son and Jaina as a collective but I would argue that Kyp is not the only one as are Kyle Katarn where he was front n center in Dark Forces and key character in Jedi Knight games, then you also got Saba Sebatyne, Cilghal that never had central focus since Kyp, Kyle, Mara and Corran all had their moments in a given novel or series. I personally would have Kyp at S tier and drop Jaina as of FOTJ as a Jedi Master in mid or low A tier, put Saba Sebatyne highest A tier over Kyle with her show in during the end of FOTJ Apocalypse having brutally ripped an Avatar of Abeloth part a feat I know Jaina couldn’t pull of and questionable if Kyle can. Nonetheless the NJO did exceed its predecessors that came before since all the Jedi A tier in this list or my list are Yoda tier and stronger. My ranking top 5 are 1. Luke Skywalker 2. Kyp Durron 3. Saba Sebatyne 4. Kyle Katarn 5. Jaina Solo as her Jedi Master FOTJ version huge emphasis because it’s a significant power amp from her LOTF and prior iterations from Knight lvl to Council lvl which would be C tier to low A tier.
-STRONG preface. While a bit unnecessary at times, I appreciated the clarity and explanations in setting up the groundwork for the video; it only ever helps. 👍 -I love Tionne, but she belongs in G, man. 😅 -I agree with your E-tier, though you implying you ‘personally’ have them far higher worries me. 😅 -Good to see you put some respect on Cilghal’s name. 👌 -Yeah, Tresina’s one of those Jedi whom we basically know nothing about except for one singular very impressive feat, but the feat itself is prolonged, and hardly largely reliant on circumstance, so it’s just plain a great feat for her. The only reason I can think of for why she’s in D and not C-tier is because almost every one of her peers continued to grow in skill and power after the Lumiya arc, whereas she… very much didn’t. -20:52, calm down, Evan. 😅 Luke only beat DE Sids through rather extreme circumstances, including but not limited to Leia amping Luke via Force Harmony. Aside from that though, don’t really find much issue in what you’ve said in this tier. -Yeah, I had to REREAD what I just read to make sure I read it correctly the first time reading TJA: a Padawan Corran Horn successfully mind-tricked not only all his peers but also a post-DE Luke Skywalker as well. 👌 I love Corran Horn because I just love characters that have a ‘blessing and a curse’ kind of thing about them, and that’s kinda true with Corran in that his TK, even as a Master, is basically Youngling level, but his TP is preternatural from the get-go, and his TK gets supercharged whenever he successfully employs Tutaminis, which he is also extremely masterful in. And yeah, as far as pure skill goes, he’s easily one of the best duelists of the NJO, with those who’d conventionally be ranked above him being able to attribute their sheer greater raw power, and thus superior force aug. as well as possibly precog. against him, like Kyp for example. -Fully agree on Mara Jade with her comparison to Corran, saying they’re effectively equal as duelists, but she has him beat as an overall combatant. -29:47, naw, Evan… the quote/source you just showed does NOT place Mara at that point as an equal to Ventress. 😅 The most you can glean from the quote is that Ventress, Mara, and Valin Draco, are all considered among Sidious’ most powerful Force-wielding agents, not that they are all three equally standing compared to each other. Beyond that, the notion is… ridiculous. 😂 Ventress would squish Imperial Mara Jade like a bug. -29:57, source for this claim??? -30:38, THANK YOU for supplying the context for this one; FAR too many people take that quote OUT of context, and just run with it. -33:33, I’m liking this side of you: factoring in context as liberally as you are. 👍 That said, you’re still omitting that Mara, just prior to their duel, also essentially ambushed Caedus in a trap, and so he began their duel injured and easily arguably at Kyle for example. -46:37, claiming Kyle “mastered” all those abilities is a bit generous, not to mention his severing of Jerec’s connection to the dark side was most likely circumstantial given what a neophyte he was, and the fact that he never does it again, especially in occasions where it would have been useful. -49:05, just like I explained in your DE Sids vs Krayt Reborn video, NO, that quote only has Luke as better than he was in his FIRST duel with Sidious. His 2nd duel, he was amped via Leia’s Force Harmony, and empirically much better than he was at his base-level, where he got his ass handed to him by Sids (in their first duel). Furthermore, as of Dark Apprentice, Luke undergoes some seriously crippling doubt, and his powers effectively take a nose-dive until around the Vong War. So while Luke is still Luke Motherf*cking Skywalker, he’s not quite as superpowerful as we think he’d be. His growth effectively stops between this time, and/or in some ways, he’s even worse than he was as of the end of DE / beginning of TJA. So Desann getting the better of Luke is totally believable, and not some absurdly amazing feat. -Painting it out like the Kyle vs Caedus fight was, as you say, “pretty even,” literally right after saying that Kyle had the advantage of numbers on his side, and Caedus is not at 100%, AND the fact that Caedus was clearly doing better than Kyle in that fight… it’s pretty irresponsible of you. Just rechecked the fight, and yeah, within about 10 seconds, Caedus would have ended the fight if not for one of the Jedi Knights intercepting one of Caedus’ strikes. And prior to that, it was pretty clear Caedus wasn’t in trouble. -49:54, if you’d showed the paragraph directly above that, it has the perspective being that of the Jedi Knight, Seha Dorvald, who was onlooking the fight from afar. Also, there’s the fact that, according to the text, it’s very likely what she observed and was noting and thinking it appeared even, was merely the first couple to a few seconds of the duel. So no, given how the fight is directly described in the actual action, it’s clearly not even. Caedus, even while at notably Kyle. 😅 -50:57, nowhere does the source you show support your claim that Ben Kenobi is “confirmed to have been far stronger than his Prequel-era-self.” That said, it’s my personal believe Ben Kenobi didn’t fall too behind the likes of his RotS-iteration. -51:03, I urge you to read (if you haven’t) the RotS Novelization, or reread it if it’s been a while, Evan. We get the perfect explanation in it for Anakin going from the level of EASILY beating Dooku (conquering his ‘dead-star dragon,’ his fear), with the help of Palpatine coaxing him on and giving him “permission” to let go, and then plummeting back down to the level he was before then just prior to his fight with Kenobi (with his dead-star dragon, his fear, creeping back in). In other words, yes, Legends Suited Vader is better than PSV during his fight with Kenobi, but is still a fair bit below the likes of Anakin/Vader from the tail-end of his fight with Dooku in RotS, UP until his fight with Kenobi at the end of RotS. -57:07, Zekk merely musing that that’s what it “MAYBE” means, in no way gives you the leeway to then refer to that as it being revealed to be the case. 😑 In other words, you taking that quote to mean anything close to objective fact, is a massive reach from you. -57:21, a ridiculous claim. Anakin-in his prime at least-was at the level of RotS Yoda and Sidious, as per numerous official sources, with some sources even having him ABOVE them, though I personally don’t put much if any stock into those particular ones. -57:24, at best, you can glean from that quote that, by that time, Jaina was at the level of NJO Jedi Masters, not necessarily NJO COUNCIL Masters. There’s a difference. -So we’re just trusting Luke’s vague musings on Jaina’s power and skill, and interpreting that it includes HIMSELF, disregarding that none of her feats come CLOSE to his (or many of those you’ve placed under her in this ranking)? There’s a reason many of the SW writers and members of the creative teams and lorekeepers discourage fans like us from interpreting everything so literally… 🙄 -58:36, yeah, except you’ll note, in the text, it basically required EVERYTHING from her to do so. Let’s not falsify things, Evan, to try to minimize the gap between Caedus and Jaina, which was rather substantial, as Jaina herself admits (I think throughout the lore honestly), with the only way Jaina was able to do as well as she did against Caedus being that he was already notably injured prior to them dueling, and he was holding back against her, whereas she was FULLY willing to end him. (You later point out most of this context, thank you) -1:01:00, again, Evan, nowhere does that quote say COUNCIL Master. You need to stop just wildly misinterpreting the lore to fit your biases. -So yeah, you hold Kyle and Jaina too high… -1:02:31, dude, you NEED to get off this abysmal bit of scaling. Again, that quote applies to base-level Luke, not how he was when he fought Sids the 2nd time. You need to stop interpreting the lore so rigidly literally. -The additional Kol segment as well as having Jaina potentially in S+ is wholly pointless, but I commend you for at least going out of your way to point out that you were majorly stretching and reaching there. -While this video of yours still had its issues for sure, overall the collective problems were rather benign compared to most of your other videos. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but… I sure hope this video wasn’t just a fluke, and it’s proof of you improving in many of your problem-areas. 🙏
@@TinyTorah Luke was, factually, on or above Sidious's level as a duelist by DE. He won the second duel with some degree of aid, yes, but the Battle Meditation that Leia provided was explictly noted as being minor and instinctual/untrained. And even besides that, there's no proof in the quotes about it (that she was 'unlocking unexpected resources' in him) that it was a temporary amp, regardless. Per most sources and quotes on the matter, Luke beat Sidious in the duel fair and square, and per the audio drama, he did so in about 30 seconds flat. Of course, none of this is to say Luke is on Sidious's level as an overall combatant, specifically in the Force, however. We know from the comic alone that isn't the case, seeing how, even despite Sidious being, literally, disarmed, Luke still backs off and has to resort to a Force Harmony with Leia. Per the endnotes, Sidious was sufficiently powerful he would have literally ripped Luke apart if he had tried to get close. The power difference in the Force is huge. As a similar sidenote, Luke didn't truly 'lose power' in the post-DE era. Per the Thrawn Duology books, he was unconsciously holding himself back due to his mortal terror at falling to the Dark Side ever again, something he never quite got over until near the end of the Vong War.
@ Shoot, I opened the notification for this, thinking your response was shorter. 😅 Tag/respond to me again, and I’ll try to get back to it and give an actual PROPER response at a later time when I have more time to dedicate toward it. 👍
@ Apologies for taking so long: -If we accept Luke was Sidious’ equal as a duelist as of DE, then the only thing that follows is that DE Sids had significantly superior force aug. and/or precog. given just how easily Sidious beat Luke in their first duel, while he was disadvantaged and Luke held the advantage… -Source for Leia’s Force Harmony being only “minor” help? -Luke literally undergoes no power or skill growth between his first and second duel with Sidious, with the only main difference between the two duels being Leia’s Force Harmony. Reason dictates that is then what had Luke go from getting his ass handed to him, to actually besting Sidious. That would then mean Leia’s aid was rather substantial. -Which sources are you referring to that say Luke won the duel “fair and square?” Although, even if there are some sources that say effectively that (which I don’t recall ever seeing), I can’t say I’d put much stock into them given they would be contradicting the primary source on the matter. -I’m aware Luke didn’t ever ‘truly’ lose power. But ‘in effect,’ he did, and that’s what I meant. I seriously don’t get why so many people put so much emphasis on POTENTIAL power when it’s largely irrelevant. It’s like how people use a few quotes about Mace to try to say that he was an equal to Yoda, even as of TPM. And while that is plenty true in regard to POTENTIAL power, Mace demonstrably was notably below Yoda for all but the tail-end of his career, specifically in his fight against Sidious, where, through delving completely into Vaapad (something he couldn’t even properly do prior to the Shatterpoint novel) he managed to finally actualize his power and indeed rival Yoda and Sidious. Sorry for the tangent, but I guess that grinds my gears. 😅
@@TinyTorah "Apologies for taking so long..." Np. "...then the only thing that follows is that DE Sid had significantly superior Force aug. and/or precog given just how easily Sidious beat Luke in their first duel..." The first duel took place on a mega-Dark Side nexus in the form of Byss; given Luke was still Light Side-aligned at the time, he would have been significantly hindered. "Source for Leia's Force Harmony being only minor help?" Vima (the old lady) outright says her Battle Meditation (note that there's a bit of mixup in abilities here; Leia unconsciously employed BM during the lightsaber duel; the Harmony is what both her, Luke, and Anakin used to cut Sidious off from his command of his Storms) was 'elementary', and Luke himself didn't apparently even notice it until it was pointed out after. "Luke literally undergoes no power or skill growth between his first and second duel..." Debatable. While I'm not aware of any source that explicitly says he grew inbetween, we DO know Luke grew in power over the course of DE (obviously), and since growth in Force power tends to almost directly correlate to overcoming emotional and mental challenges and hurdles, him managing to finally break free of his mindset that he needed to do everything alone, and shattering Palpatine's hold on him, would be an obvious time for him to grow. But, I digress. "...with the only main difference being Leia's Force Harmony..." The issue is, naturally, that said BM was explictly described as untrained and elementary, and that even if it was a factor, it would, at best, perhaps outweigh the fact the Eclipse is *ALSO* a Dark Side nexus in of itself, as Leia notes when she boards it. Palpatine during DE was amusingly similar to many of the ancient Sith; he had a tendency to stack nexus' on top of nexus'. "Which sources are you referring to that say that Luke won the duel fair and square?" "The Force so strong... They're both moving so fast I can hardly see them... I-I feel waves of power... the dark side and the light... But... I feel... the light is winning!" -Leia, Dark Empire Audio Drama "But in effect he did..." I suppose so, in the sense he refused to use it. "I seriously don't get why people put so much emphasis on POTENTIAL power..." While I agree and am sympathetic to this complaint (especially as it pertains, like you probably are thinking of, to the silly idea of 'full potential' X, whether that be Anakin or whoever else; such a thing is almost always borderline fanfic), it's also understandable why people tend to bring it up; the narratives of these stories tend to also make a big deal of it, after all! Anakin, even as early as AOTC, is noted CONSTANTLY, in numerous sources, as having Yoda+ power. Obviously, however, and as a big part of the plot, he can't regularly use more than fraction of it. Same goes for many, many other characters. Frankly, 'potential' power in many cases is more accurately referred to as 'raw' power, especially for someone like Anakin or a similar prodigy.
What if the old republic jedi council and the new republic Jedi council swapped places how would they handle the crisis of those times? Who would do better?
Great video as always, Evan. I agree than Mara is a bit more powerful than Corran and I do think she’s a slightly better duellist since she was able to stalemate Lumiya twice who could injure GM Luke (I also think she should have won the lightsaber duelling skills round in your VS video of her and Cade Skywalker since he only crossed blades with Krayt once). Something that should be mentioned about Kol Skywalker is that he killed several Stormtroopers and Sith and has no visible injuries implying he did it with ease.
I think people really low ball Mara Jade. She’s really powerful. Like a lot more powerful than Jedi of the clone wars. She had an actual sword fight and then a hand to hand fight in her duel with lumiya and was going to win had the ship not interfered. Lumiya is someone who could swap blades with a pissed off Luke in their last duel before he killed her. Not Ventress, Not Savage, Not Maul would be able to do that. maul tried killing obi wan on florrum and he dodged his attacks and kicked maul twice and then fended both of maul and savage off while being trapped in a tunnel. Obi wan had to create space and maneuver in the limit space he was given outmanned and out sabered. If people think maul is all that, then why didn’t he choose to kill him instead of running away after force pushing him? Nah people trip when they say maul fought Palpatine for a few moments. Mara would crush those Sith.
@@the7thfleet936 Mara isn't even vaguely impressive, lul. She's someone who, in that self same series, struggles to collapse a small tunnel. The fact she struggles with someone like Lumiya (who self admittedly is sub-suit Vader) isn't the own you think it is, lul. Trying to scale based off of Luke is, as ever, utterly brainless.
@@JayBobert-h1l Because suit Vader in the old canon isn't particularly impressive in the grand scheme of things, and he is utterly irrelevant at the level of GM Luke.
Hell yeah I been waiting for this one I think Kyp Durron should be S Tier maybe being that I’m a Kyp fanboy, but the Black Hole feat during the Yuuzhan Vong is a planetary feat in the Force this was NJO Kyp he does kinda get thrown to the curb during FOTJ which is a shame cause he could’ve gotten stronger more skilled well never know I would put him above Jaina that isn’t hypothetical Full Potential achieved I always figured him being second to Luke in the NJO with his Feats and fierce sparring duels with Luke Skywalker, dude was a secondary threat to Yuuzhan Vong behind Luke, I also think in LOTF if it was Kyp instead of Kyle going after Darth Caedus the results would’ve been much different since Kyp has real OP Raw Connection to the Force you would’ve had a defeated and detained Sith Lord since Kyp is more aggressive than Luke and wasn’t emotionally distressed during his clash with Caedus. I would also prolly have Saba Sebatyne over Kyle due to her show in FOTJ Apocalypse facing off an Avatar of Abeloth and brutally executing it possibly high A tier while Kyp is high S Tier second to Luke with Jaina low S Tier at third place imo. Great vid as always Evan love the content was wondering if you could do a general ranking of Power in Sith Lords I think that be kool. Some Versus ideas I had are. - Kyp Durron vs Darth Krayt - FOTJ Jaina Solo vs Reborn Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious from Dark Empire - Yoda vs Emperor Vitiate - Shimrra Jamaane vs Darish Vol - Vestara Khai vs Bastilla Shan - Saba Sebatyne vs Mace Windu - Raynor Thul vs Plo Koon
@@baki484 that's the part that's got me anxious, since i'm planning to do another matchup with Malak, i want to see what he does and use that as a [template]
*sigh* the second time in the past 2 years that you've dropped an hour+ long video the day before I have a huge final exam. Well, that hour of Star Wars lore was well spent, so now I better study harder today. My personal ranking goes like this. S+ Tier - Full Potential Luke Skywalker - Full Potential Jaina Solo Fel - Full Potential Kol Skywalker S Tier - Luke Skywalker A Tier - Jaina Solo Fel - Kyp Durron - Kyle Katarn - Corran Horn - Mara Jade Skywalker B Tier - Kol Skywalker - Saba Sebatyne - Grandmaster K’Kruhk - Tresina Lobi C Tier - Kam Solusar - Kenth Hamner - T’ra Saa D Tier - Cilghal - Octa Ramis E Tier - Tionne Solusar F Tier - Barratk’l - Tili Qua So ultimately, the only big differences I notice is that I rank Mara, Corran and K’Kruhk higher than you do, and I rank Kenth and Saba waaay lower. Otherwise, I generally agree with most of the rankings here. Another well researched and informative video. Merry Christmas, Evan.
Would you consider next doing a ranking on the Ancient Sith Lords? You’d have to limit it to just the reigning or high level dark lords otherwise there’d be too many of course. But you could maybe do from the original Jedi exiles (Pall, Murr, Horde, Andeddu etc.), through the later Dark lords of Korriban during the golden age (Ragnos, Sadow, Kressh etc.), and finally those who learned directly from them original teachings (Nadd, Kun etc.) There would be a fair bit of speculation but there should be enough feats from most of them (and their artefacts and followers) to compare, and there are certainly plenty of statements both in world and by creators to make a fairly solid scaling for them. Could be a fun project
@macattackk exar kun possessed the dark holocrom which had over 100,000 years of sith magic archemy rituals lightsaber skills echani and rakatas teaching he even had teaching before the dark jedi exiled
@macattackk what I'm trying to say it's that exar kun is far more powerful than all ancient sith including Karnes murr who's way more powerful than prime darth krayt and krayt is more powerful than vader
You make some of the best STAR WARS RUclips videos I’ve ever seen! You are the best EVANNOVA95. As one of your biggest fans, may I ask you to make a ranking video of the apprentices of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader from both Legends and DISNEY please? I would love to get your opinion on that ranking. And also a ranking video on Order 66 survivors from both Legends and DISNEY? I don’t think anyone has done one of those as far as I am aware of. May the Force be with you, stay safe, and HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Just never forget, we could've had films/stuff about this council, one that aren't ignorant of the force/are emotional - IF they were adapted faithfully - instead we got rey palpatine and high republic.....
My plan is to start reading the New Jedi Order books the exact same day that Disney’s New Jedi Order movie is released. The biggest 🖕I can give Disney. Begin the true NJO the day their njo movie comes out
Kind of overwanking Kyle in his fight with caedus. Even with the 3 knights Kyle almost dies and is only saved by a 4th jedi also hiding there. He's basically shown he's a threat but not actually close to caedus by any reasonable measure.

@@Wes_Bradley-Taubnerand I guess the Dark Apprentice clone? While the non canon ending is…non canon, the unlockable cutscenes showing his training are so he does exist in legends canon

Which video if you don't mind me asking?
Mara already held an advantage against Kyle Katarn during Mysteries of the Sith. Katarn was closer to his prime than Mara was at that time.

Very well put together video my man. Once again you have proven that the Star Wars OG EU surpasses the Disney version.

11 years later, and you’re still producing top tier Star Wars content on RUclips.
Great video, man.
For a potential post NJO Council member ranking Q&A video:
1) Who is your favourite NJO Jedi besides Luke?
2) Which NJO Council member would get along well with the Prequel era Council the best?
3) Would Yoda approve of Luke getting married?
Evan bro, I know you're not big on monetizing your videos, but you really should. I have been a fan for YEARS and have gotten countless hours of entertainment from your work. I find myself consistently coming back to your channel even when there isn't a new upload just to listen to you. That combined with your passion and love for what you make, give your videos enough light side energy to counteract any negatives from monetization.Your content is good, and you deserve to make a little money from your work.

A SW versustuber not having a single earthly clue what they are talking about? Shocking, truly.
jacen personally and explicitly states kyle is a genuine threat, and that the others (even collectively) were not.
I’m a come back and listen when I work
Oh ho! I’ve been looking forward to this!!!

Very informative video, though I admit I thought Saba would be higher than Kyle! Love your work and have you thought about doing a Sith scaling video? Maybe top 10 strongest?
Saba absolutely deserves to be above Kyle; Evan’s just biased.
Here we go!
A suprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Great summary! It's a shame we didn't see more out of Octa Ramis, nor post redemption Kyp.
About time!
Well depending on how one perceives Rule of Two scaling, there’s not much to discuss in the list if it’s from Bane on…
@@TinyTorahOnly if you actually believe in bane’s concept, which is sketchy at best anyway. But you also have sith explicitly *not* following his methods for how it’s supposed to work, Sidious notoriously doing so.
@@firstnamelastname9237 which is why I expressly said, “depending on how one perceives Rule of Two scaling…” 😅
@@firstnamelastname9237 , me personally, I think it’s plenty fair to believe IN GENERAL, the Rule of Two got stronger over time. That said, there were of course… hiccups. 😅
Gravid destroying a majority of the accumulated Sith knowledge on sorcery and alchemy for example FOR SURE didn’t help things, and then, as you mentioned, numerous Banite Sith didn’t properly adhere to Bane’s ideals, and instead killed their masters via trickery or opportunity rather than an outright challenge. So yeah, while perhaps the Banite Sith grew stronger over time in a general sense, it’s also quite likely that not literally every apprentice surpassed their master. 👍
@@TinyTorah
Yeah fair enough lol.
When it come to stats and skills, you are the best RUclipsr out there
That’s because GreyJedi quit, and Antoine stopped making SW content…
@ never heard of them
@@timothycambron, they were basically doing this stuff simultaneously with Evan and Jensaarai, and they all occasionally collaborated. Evan and Jensaarai were arguably the worst of them all, and unfortunately THEY are the ones who didn’t stop making content.
@@TinyTorah why did they quit?
@@timothycambron I can only speculate. With GreyJedi, given he posted the least out of all of them, it was probably far less a priority in his life, and so I assume life picked up for him (hopefully in a good way), and he stopped making (SW) videos altogether. With Antoine, since he was more active, I wouldn’t be surprised if the fandom becoming more toxic was a factor, given he still makes videos, but he’s almost entirely stopped making any SW content, and has essentially made a 100% pivot into Avatar (The Last Airbender) content. He also has written a book series that’s been published! 👍
May the force be with you!
Still a great video though, i really enjoyed it
I enjoyed this video so much that I'm excited to see the prequel Council video!

I like to believe that there is only one Chosen One. No more than that.
And then we have to consider that there were implications that Allana Djo Solo might surpass them all (though since she wasn't in Star Wars Legacy we can't even speculate)

Great video! You should make a video comparing it to its cannon counterpart, oh wait…
My ranking top 5 are
1. Luke Skywalker
2. Kyp Durron
3. Saba Sebatyne
4. Kyle Katarn
-I love Tionne, but she belongs in G, man. 😅
-I agree with your E-tier, though you implying you ‘personally’ have them far higher worries me. 😅
-Good to see you put some respect on Cilghal’s name. 👌
-Yeah, Tresina’s one of those Jedi whom we basically know nothing about except for one singular very impressive feat, but the feat itself is prolonged, and hardly largely reliant on circumstance, so it’s just plain a great feat for her. The only reason I can think of for why she’s in D and not C-tier is because almost every one of her peers continued to grow in skill and power after the Lumiya arc, whereas she… very much didn’t.
-20:52, calm down, Evan. 😅
Luke only beat DE Sids through rather extreme circumstances, including but not limited to Leia amping Luke via Force Harmony.
I love Corran Horn because I just love characters that have a ‘blessing and a curse’ kind of thing about them, and that’s kinda true with Corran in that his TK, even as a Master, is basically Youngling level, but his TP is preternatural from the get-go, and his TK gets supercharged whenever he successfully employs Tutaminis, which he is also extremely masterful in.
The most you can glean from the quote is that Ventress, Mara, and Valin Draco, are all considered among Sidious’ most powerful Force-wielding agents, not that they are all three equally standing compared to each other.
That said, you’re still omitting that Mara, just prior to their duel, also essentially ambushed Caedus in a trap, and so he began their duel injured and easily arguably at Kyle for example.
-50:57, nowhere does the source you show support your claim that Ben Kenobi is “confirmed to have been far stronger than his Prequel-era-self.” That said, it’s my personal believe Ben Kenobi didn’t fall too behind the likes of his RotS-iteration.
In other words, you taking that quote to mean anything close to objective fact, is a massive reach from you.
There’s a reason many of the SW writers and members of the creative teams and lorekeepers discourage fans like us from interpreting everything so literally… 🙄
-58:36, yeah, except you’ll note, in the text, it basically required EVERYTHING from her to do so. (You later point out most of this context, thank you)
-1:01:00, again, Evan, nowhere does that quote say COUNCIL Master. You need to stop just wildly misinterpreting the lore to fit your biases.
-So yeah, you hold Kyle and Jaina too high…
-1:02:31, dude, you NEED to get off this abysmal bit of scaling.
Tag/respond to me again, and I’ll try to get back to it and give an actual PROPER response at a later time when I have more time to dedicate toward it. 👍
@@TinyTorah Tag.
@ Apologies for taking so long:
-If we accept Luke was Sidious’ equal as a duelist as of DE, then the only thing that follows is that DE Sids had significantly superior force aug. and/or precog. given just how easily Sidious beat Luke in their first duel, while he was disadvantaged and Luke held the advantage…
-Source for Leia’s Force Harmony being only “minor” help?
-Luke literally undergoes no power or skill growth between his first and second duel with Sidious, with the only main difference between the two duels being Leia’s Force Harmony. Reason dictates that is then what had Luke go from getting his ass handed to him, to actually besting Sidious. That would then mean Leia’s aid was rather substantial.
-Which sources are you referring to that say Luke won the duel “fair and square?”
Although, even if there are some sources that say effectively that (which I don’t recall ever seeing), I can’t say I’d put much stock into them given they would be contradicting the primary source on the matter.
@@TinyTorah "Apologies for taking so long..."
Np.
"...then the only thing that follows is that DE Sid had significantly superior Force aug. and/or precog given just how easily Sidious beat Luke in their first duel..."
The first duel took place on a mega-Dark Side nexus in the form of Byss; given Luke was still Light Side-aligned at the time, he would have been significantly hindered.
"Source for Leia's Force Harmony being only minor help?"
Vima (the old lady) outright says her Battle Meditation (note that there's a bit of mixup in abilities here; Leia unconsciously employed BM during the lightsaber duel; the Harmony is what both her, Luke, and Anakin used to cut Sidious off from his command of his Storms) was 'elementary', and Luke himself didn't apparently even notice it until it was pointed out after.
"Luke literally undergoes no power or skill growth between his first and second duel..."
Debatable.
"...with the only main difference being Leia's Force Harmony..."
The issue is, naturally, that said BM was explictly described as untrained and elementary, and that even if it was a factor, it would, at best, perhaps outweigh the fact the Eclipse is *ALSO* a Dark Side nexus in of itself, as Leia notes when she boards it. Palpatine during DE was amusingly similar to many of the ancient Sith; he had a tendency to stack nexus' on top of nexus'.
"Which sources are you referring to that say that Luke won the duel fair and square?"
"The Force so strong... They're both moving so fast I can hardly see them... I-I feel waves of power... the dark side and the light... But... I feel... the light is winning!"
-Leia, Dark Empire Audio Drama
"But in effect he did..."
I suppose so, in the sense he refused to use it.
"I seriously don't get why people put so much emphasis on POTENTIAL power..."
While I agree and am sympathetic to this complaint (especially as it pertains, like you probably are thinking of, to the silly idea of 'full potential' X, whether that be Anakin or whoever else; such a thing is almost always borderline fanfic), it's also understandable why people tend to bring it up; the narratives of these stories tend to also make a big deal of it, after all!
I watched this video, just so I could see where you ranked Saba. 😂
Feel that
Luke Skywalker vs Darth Krayt?
REJOICE !!! IT IS HERE !!!
Of course Luke Skywalker would obviously be high on the list, being Grand Master and all.
@@papapalps2415 using a vader comparison as a knock is strange lol
@@JayBobert-h1l Because suit Vader in the old canon isn't particularly impressive in the grand scheme of things, and he is utterly irrelevant at the level of GM Luke.
@@papapalps2415 again luke is the most powerful Jedi of all time ofcourse he beats Vader lol
- Kyp Durron vs Darth Krayt
- FOTJ Jaina Solo vs Reborn Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious from Dark Empire
- Yoda vs Emperor Vitiate
- Shimrra Jamaane vs Darish Vol
- Vestara Khai vs Bastilla Shan
- Saba Sebatyne vs Mace Windu
- Raynor Thul vs Plo Koon
has Saba ever had a versus video?
Not to my knowledge, that need's to change.
I've never made one with her, but I would like to use her someday.
After seeing this I wonder how she’d measure up to a KOTOR Sith like Malak or Traya, or perhaps further back like Exar or Ulic
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
okay, not trying to push or maybe it's because i'm impatient, but when is the Malak vs Dooku matchup coming?
Jensaarai one has his part to do.
S+ Tier
- Full Potential Luke Skywalker
- Full Potential Jaina Solo Fel
- Full Potential Kol Skywalker
S Tier
- Luke Skywalker
A Tier
- Jaina Solo Fel
- Kyp Durron
- Kyle Katarn
- Corran Horn
- Mara Jade Skywalker
B Tier
- Kol Skywalker
- Saba Sebatyne
- Grandmaster K’Kruhk
- Tresina Lobi
C Tier
- Kam Solusar
- Kenth Hamner
- T’ra Saa
D Tier
- Cilghal
- Octa Ramis
E Tier
- Tionne Solusar
F Tier
- Barratk’l
- Tili Qua
So ultimately, the only big differences I notice is that I rank Mara, Corran and K’Kruhk higher than you do, and I rank Kenth and Saba waaay lower. Otherwise, I generally agree with most of the rankings here.
Another well researched and informative video. Merry Christmas, Evan.
Evan. How would you Scale the S tier prequel council characters if they were in this video?
could you please do one for the sith (not just KOTOR era) please!!!
Would you consider next doing a ranking on the Ancient Sith Lords? You’d have to limit it to just the reigning or high level dark lords otherwise there’d be too many of course.
But you could maybe do from the original Jedi exiles (Pall, Murr, Horde, Andeddu etc.), through the later Dark lords of Korriban during the golden age (Ragnos, Sadow, Kressh etc.), and finally those who learned directly from them original teachings (Nadd, Kun etc.)
There would be a fair bit of speculation but there should be enough feats from most of them (and their artefacts and followers) to compare, and there are certainly plenty of statements both in world and by creators to make a fairly solid scaling for them. Could be a fun project
All those teaching died when exar kun body was destroyed in yavin4
@ Not entirely no, holocron’s such as Andeddu’s and Murr have been found to pass those teachings into the ‘modern’ eras. But what’s your point?
@macattackk exar kun possessed the dark holocrom which had over 100,000 years of sith magic archemy rituals lightsaber skills echani and rakatas teaching he even had teaching before the dark jedi exiled
@@alsimmonshellspawn6021 ok, I’m still not quite sure I follow though, what point are you trying to make in relation to my comment?
Begin the true NJO the day their njo movie comes out
this content is absolutely S tier 🙌
It’s S-tier for Evan’s content…
Kind of overwanking Kyle in his fight with caedus. Even with the 3 knights Kyle almost dies and is only saved by a 4th jedi also hiding there. He's basically shown he's a threat but not actually close to caedus by any reasonable measure.
Can you do how poweful were the Yuuzhan Vong?
Don't forget Cilghals dark power of Force Piss Yourself lol
K'kruk, is my favorite along side Luke.
Whens that count dooku vs darth malak video gonna happen
