  • Suffolk County Police are investigating whether a little girl and her father are scamming neighbors over Girl Scout cookies. Cops say at least 11 families are reporting that they may have been conned by the same little girl and her father. The duo reportedly never delivered the Girl Scouts cookies the neighbors paid for. Residents say if it does turn out to be a con, all the fault lies with the grown-up who should know better.

      ello I'm a girlscout. In the very beggining of the season we take pre-orders. We go around asking if people would like girl scout cookies, we take their order, and we let them know around when they will come in. Which can be like a month, not two weeks. When I take pre-orders thought I don't collect money. Unless the person wants to give the money right then and there, I wait til we get the cookies. Once I do get the cookies I deliver them to doors and collect the money at the same time. I also just sell to people who want cookies and have money on them. We do pre-orders beacause when the season starts because the cookies haven't been distributed to the ware houses yet. I hope this helps, feel free to ask questions :)

      It depends on if they have certain ones in stock at the time sometimes the parents of kids selling to the cookies have to order more boxes of the cookies and wait for the cookies to come before they can deliver them to people who ordered the cookies from them.sometimes the Girl Scouts don’t have very much of certain cookie flavors left in stock and if you order like 10 to 20 boxes of one flavor when the Girl Scout only has one box in stock it’s gonna take a while before you get the remaining boxes we had that happen to us once where we ordered a certain flavor and the mom of the Girl Scout at the time had to explain to us that they had to get more of the flavor we wanted back in stock and then still deliver the remaining boxes to us later on when they got them back in stock to sell. Meaning Girl Scouts most likely can’t deliver the cookies right away if they have less than a certain number of cookie boxes left if you order 10 to 20 boxes of one kind of cookie flavor.

It's very possible that the cookies were late, and the girl went on vacation before they came in, so she hasn't been able to pick them up yet. Or that they had to quarantine, or there was a death in the family. It may not be a scam at all 🤞

    My mom did this with that magazine where you order stuff through the chocolate company.
    My mom promised to deliver the stuff but it stayed in our living room. I was a kid, didn’t put two and two together. Until the next year I went to sell to them again and they rejected us. One of them told me, “you never brought my stuff!”
    I realized my mom pocketed the money and the goodies because I never got to get those school prizes. 😔

    I was a Girl Guide (Canadian version of Girl Scouts) and when we went selling cookies, we had the boxes with us as we went door to door so when people bought the cookies, they got them right after they paid. We never told anyone who bought cookies from us that they had to wait any amount of time to get their cookies delivered. And I sold chocolates for my middle school a few years later. Again, I had the box of chocolate bars with me, going door to door and directly after being paid, I gave them the chocolate bars. I'm not sure how it works in the US, but in my experience of door-to-door sales, what this father did definitely is a scam. And telling people to wait 2 weeks for delivery of girl scout cookies is a big red flag.

    • @musicfan1427
      @musicfan1427 Год назад +4

      I always thought it was weird in the US that we would never have the stuff when they made us go door to door for fundraisers and they had to pay ahead of time. It would usually come "in a couple of weeks," so that's why people weren't initially suspicious of the dad. If it was a citrus sale, they gave a date for people to go pick them up at the school.

    • @FieldOfFireflies
      @FieldOfFireflies Год назад +2

      @@musicfan1427 Okay, that makes sense. That is weird to me, especially for girl scout cookies. We were taught by our girl guide leaders to always have the boxes with you, wait for them to pay, and then give them however many boxes they paid for. They never told us to tell people to wait any amount of time for delivery of them. And if someone asked for 4 boxes and we only had 2 left, we let them know "we only have 2 boxes left" and they would buy the 2 boxes and that was it. We would never make them pay for stock we didn't have physically with us. But this was back in the early 2000's. So maybe it's different now?

They also upload a pic and can make and upload a brief video of themselves. Girls can then send emails to family and friends with the link to her store page. Parents can post the link to their friends on Facebook.
