Decades in a Junkyard... Will this 1974 Ford Police Cruiser Run and Drive? Plus: Renault 5 Drive!

- Hi guys! Another really fun week here; I'm headed to the GCFCE where Dan is going to try to start the 1974 Ford Custom 500 RCMP cruiser that he bought from a junkyard where it had sat untouched since it was sold off in the 70s... Expect some starter motor abuse, haha! Then: The much-anticipated fist drive in the freshly-finished 1982 Renault 5 that I bought almost exactly a year ago... We hope you enjoy it; we turned the "French" up to 11 for this one!
Our 8mm film is back from the developer; I'll be including bits of it in the next several weeks' videos... Hope you enjoy these clips; I cropped them to fit this time. Special thanks to Steve Dean and Niagra Film Labs in Toronto.

The Fury sequence was coooooooooooll.
The dream sequence… I am impressed
@@myabyrnemusic Hey thanks! We had fun putting that together, for sure....
i like it hope its still got a good body seems ok from a glance and good motor trans and running gear its a win win
Have ("experienced" is hardly the word for it) problems with my internet connection recently and am trying to catch up with 4 weeks of CWM & other podcasts. One thing I've noticed is that the "like button" on the thumbnail line (between "Subscribed" and "Share") reacts kind of funny. It shows "Subscribed" -OK, but when I hit the "thumbs up" itself goes blank. However, the other icons under comments & replies work fine.
All this just to say that there should be (as someone also said) a kind of "Oscar" or "Emmy" for RUclips productions. The "production values" on CWM are generally high, and that R5 segment is outstanding. It is cinematic genius.
That mime sequence is one of best things ever put to video, worthy of some sort of French Oscar.
The César Award
Haha thanks for the kind words... We did have fun with that one... A lot of work though, holy! Cheers from me and the Menace and the Dean Machine...
And the award for running away while displaying a sense of sad resignation goes to Dean....I agree!!
How about "The Renault Award".
Dream sequence - sheer brilliance!
It was a Dean sequence
Hard work guys! But looking great.
I loved it, I wish I could read French 🤔
@@brianbethel9929 There are internet translation engines.
@@brianbethel9929 50:04 what does it all mean? What is their goal?

@19:17 - An absolute CWM instant m-f'n CLASSIC!!! Dan flinches for the carb blow back while shooting ether and lip dangling the dart. FOTFLMFAO. Gotta ❤ Dangerous Dan and the Dangling Dart.
The only show on utube where u will see a poodle riding around in a French car. Like it 👍
That dream sequence was a treat. Plus “rev tune”, tractors, and drone shots. Great episode.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers from me and Frankers and all of the Agents...
20:20 Dan with a can of ether and a cig hanging on his lips. I saw my Dad lose his eyebrows and most of his eyelashes that way. My mom almost wet herself laughing.
Étienne Decroux, Jean-Louis Barrault, Marcel Marceau and now Dean added to the list. Great show, thank you! Opening felt just like 1959. Between the drone footage, the 8mm clips and now French Cinema this channel is becoming most avant-garde. I dig! 😎👍📽🏎🏁🏁🎞🇫🇷
Hey thanks very much; glad you enjoyed it... All the best from here!
My teeth were clenched tight trying to will the 351W in the Custom 500 to life, and thankfully after a prolonged struggle by the over-overworked starter--with some help from Dan's Dad's parts cannon--SUCCESS! The fact that there were headlights, brakes, and movement to and fro was a bonus. The R5 road test reveal and dream sequence was stellar. The car is a stunner, and Dean's take on French mimes was brilliant.
Thanks so much David, and thank you once more for such an incredibly generous donation to support this show and channel... Very kind of you. All the very best as always from me and Frankers and all of the Agents who make it happen every week!
I can barely endure the smog-dog pain! We had a 73 400 LTD wagon.😢
See you next week! LOL😅
Should let that poor mime try driving it.Seeing as he helped alot.
Dean never disappoints. A Dean episode is like a Kramer episode of Seinfeld.
Scott, you and Dan get the Official Automotive Lazarus Award (OALA) for the RCMP Ford resurrection! When the water and muck was blowing out of the cylinders I was thinking No Effing Way! Then thanks to an indestructible FoMoCo starter and some multi-agent sweat equity it revealed its 52 K heritage in spades! To get a successful run and drive out of that relic is a true CWMs miracle! But wait it ain't over until Frankers plays the role of Daisey in Driving Miss Daisey and Dean steps in with a very fine rendition of Marcel Marceau's antics to celebrate the Black is beautiful R5's 1st road trip! Wow whatta Saturday afternoon! Thanks and mega cheers!
Cheers Wesley! Glad you enjoyed it like we did making it!
The "French cliche" segment has given me a new appreciation of the Renault 5.
The dream sequence was hella trippy!
in terms of not blowing up the Frasier engine, it helps that you drive like an old grandma.
......and also looks pretty flat out yonder way.
That Renault was lucky to find you! Beautiful job Scott!👍
Thanks! Glad you like the wee Renault like I do...
Hi,is it Dean who made the imitation of MARCEL MARCEAU the french mime artist.he is very good.keep the good work guys, cheers.
Horrible !!! Plus personne ne sait qui est le mime Marceau. Si lc est la seule référence Française de Dean : c est triste ....comme le mime.
Great episode. I have L’envy over that sweet Le Car! 😊
@@jerrymach9961 Relax Jerry; we're just having a laugh. No one at this end made any reference to the great Marcel Marceau. The thought was that you'd get the idea that Dean was a mime, that's it. For the record, it was my idea, not his, and he was an incredibly good sport to give it a go with zero experience. Anyway, thanks for being a dick... Cheers!
@@jerrymach9961
Beaucoup de larmes, beaucoup de butt-hurt.
Nice work Dean. Excellent contribution for Frankophiles.
Frankers subtitles: "What does all this mean? What is their purpose? Why does he surround himself with so much rubbish? Does he think I'm a trash too?" I think Dean's Greasy Flips probably has a parts car with the grille and doors that Galaxie needs too look respectable. I'm guessing the old RCMP car has a C6 trans and a 9-inch rear end, both of which were well-developed decades before the car was built.
Thank you so much for this- it made it even better!
@@mikeschotte9480 I considered adjusting the online translator's output to replace "rubbish" with "garbage" because that's a word Scott often uses to describe badly deteriorated parts.
Dude the Renault is museum worthy now, nice job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BROVO Dean deserves an Oscar for his Mime act a Star is born. thank you ALL stay safe
Kudos to Dean for the dream scene! That Black one is the nicest R5 all tricked out...I have not seen an R5 in years...but then I love black cars. Great show!
My only concern is what inspired Dean's dream scene?😲
Exhaust sound competition now between miles and Dan...lol...
24:37 - Egads, that is a beautiful station wagon. I saw those on the road when I was a kid.
👍👍 Felt so good hearing that Windsor taking hold. 🕳🐁
Loved the 8 MM B& W , That old Ford runs pretty dang good for its down time. Frankers really seemed to enjoy the R5 ! Dean seems to have found a new talent. Thank you for all of your effort.
I just love your combination 0f visual and musical creativity. Your 8mm intros are a wonderful example. I have been a professional visual creative (graphic design, illustration and fine art printmaker) for over 30 years and you have very personal yet professional level creative approach that I truly enjoy. Thanks Scott!
Hey thanks very much for the kind words... I do have fun doing the musical bits for the show, for sure! Lots of work though, holy... Cheers!
I’m so used to you guys making these, “will it run” series look easy that I was shocked you were having problems. 😂
Well, usually we do a little more prep work, but this time we just started cranking because we had very little time... Cheers!
Top work from Dean 🤣
I could smell that from my house in Pennsylvania when the fired up.
My only contribution to RUclips dealt with freeing a 351 Windsor's stuck valves many years ago. That lumpy wheezing was sheer nostalgia!
I actually laughed out loud at "Greta fog". 🤣 ...and I feel like it's not Andy's first day pulling a car out of the mud with an Oliver.
Dean, you're an artist. That explains a lot!! Good performance or silliness, whatever I thought you were a true Parisienne all the way. Not the car you nut! Love you all. Cheers 🇨🇦
That little Renault sure turned out good🛠🇺🇸🛠
Scott you are unbelievably blessed to have so many friends who get so involved in all your ventures ... Dean's dream sequence was fanfookintastic
I am! Glad you enjoyed it... Cheers!
That 8mm footage is like watching Betty Page, so damn cool
Wow! Dean’s mime routine was almost professional!
Thanks Harry! He was a very good sport to give it a try...
Congrats of getting another Frod to actually Start.Really surprised it moved too:) The "Mime" bit was hilarious.(So that's Dean''s 'day job'). That tractor had "Green Acres" theme going again, dangit. Nice to see the OhNault driving down the road.Frankers looked happy too.The Alpine fits in perfect.Thnx Ashe. Cheers Everyone !
Cheers Bry! Glad you got a laugh like we did...
Thank you for the hard work Scott.
Thanks for checking it out John! All the very best from here...
@@coldwarmotors I absolutely love your channel, it’s been my favorite on here since I found it. I still remember that it happened to be the year of, or before you got the 60 Fury. What an amazing job you did on that. 👏🏼
GLORIOUS PLYMOUTH in the beginning sequence !! LOL!! Greta-fog! Love it! EXCELLENT job on the Ford getting it running!
Greta, the Swedish Doom Goblin!
Greta fog? How DARE you!
Ether cigarettes and mud soakers. This was a good time!
Had to take a break from cleaning the garage to come in and give this a watch
Myles has some competition in the exhaust sound show down, with the 74 Ford.
Good that Dan realized he might explode. We got treated to a French film. Wouldn't see that on any other car channel
Yes. Might have been 'Will it fly?' rather than 'Will it run?'
Love the Fraser!
I can’t wait to see the nail head running on the engine stand. Come on team Buick.
Me too! Coming soon!
The Renault is beautiful.
Cheers John! Glad you liked it... All the very best from here!
Back when I was a kid in Peoria, Illinois in the 1970's the local police would auction off their cars when they hit between 75 - 80 K. Not much by today's standards but when you add in the idling time the wear on the engine was closer to 100K. Illinois would auction off all the state vehicles in Springfield, the state capital, at least back then. I went to one of the auctions when I was working for a used car lot in 1974 as a driver for the owner of the lot. those were the days when you could pick up an ex state police care for $300 and it would run just fine. They also had the vehicles used by other government agencies and they went for more money as they were better equipped with creature comforts.
Yeah! Dan and Paul got switched on to the old cop cars by their dad who also bought them at auction as cheap reliable tough cars... Cheers!
Looks like you found a perfect car for Dean, he likes old Fords 😊
Thanks. Just like everyone else watching I was rooting for Dan's Ford to start and it was looking unlikely at times. Especially when it appeared to lock up. In the end it sounded so good! The initial rattle from the engine even subsided.
The Marceau-esque black and white mime sequence was brilliant with both R5s looking good. The 3/4 time music suited it perfectly.
Really fun to watch a car you think there is no way it will run and you guy's bring it back to life.
That Ford tried its hardest to beat the GCFCE, but failed 😄
"Dean's Dream" was fuckin hilarious 😂
The R5 is at its best in tghat spec/colour Scott 👍😎👍
"Vintage" Alpine he says...... LMAO..... dude you're killing me. Had one exactly like it in my Monte Carlo 30 years ago! Practically yesterday!
49:58 I was yelling "Back up! You missed the Mime!"
Mes excuses Dean, je ne savais pas que c'était toi.
What an epic episode. Thanks y'all!
Hey thanks... Glad you enjoyed it... Cheers!
I sometimes wonder if a 'will it run?' results in flames, and am surprised it took this long. The R5 dream sequence is so great - Luis Bunuel would be proud! The car looks fantastic too, and impressed that you matched the fog covers to the rest of the car. Nicely done Scott.
Cheers 9088! I was hoping you'd approve, haha! Thanks as always for continuing to support, endorse, and encourage this kind of nonsense!
I'd like to see Dan do the Cadillac after he finishes the Olds
Old cruiser needs to be on the set of the Beachcombers or Littlest Hobo! Great save guys!
Loved the Marcel Mousehole routine!
Im more than surprised that motor smoothed out & ran great...
Me too! We figured it was hopeless... Cheers!
What’s more fun mud or hubcaps, well hubcaps are useless and as valuable as engine covers &bumper stickers Mud is for “bogging “lol
Oh my freaking GOD! That was hilarious!! I’m sitting here, watching with mug of hot tea, when I see Dean as a mime and lose it!! Tea just all over the place! Thanks guys, the best laugh I’ve had in months! Cheers from Connecticut!!
Hey thanks so much; glad you got a laugh... Cheers!
Real classic twist black and white mime subtitles cracking le car made me laugh
Thanks Scott and everyone involved for an awesome show it was so great and cool that the 1974 Ford ran as good as it did 👍to Dan liked the Renault 5 drive and seeing FRANKERS 👍Dean and Scott always enjoy the show everyone have a great week cheers ✌❤😊🍺
Thanks James! Glad you enjoyed it...
Congrats Dan...well done
Patience served grand brother@
Looks like uncle buck.joins the rcmp force😅😅.
Great accomplishment 👏 👌
Just Brilliant!! Kudo's to the Dean Machine for the above and beyond performance!!
That starter motor is still a champ lots cranking
Okay, Saturday can begin. Let's have a beer!
Deal!
Great job on the Renault restoration.
That is one of the most hilarious (but extremely well done) peices of satire I have had the privilege to watch in th RUclips space. Well done Scott and Dean!
Thanks so much Jeremy! Glad you enjoyed it... Cheers!
@@coldwarmotors us Canucks share a unique sense of humour my friend.
74 sounds. Good. Can’t. Believe it. Set. That long. Love. The. Body. Style. Thanks ❤❤❤❤
Creased up at Dean with the balloon. Magnifique mes amis - merci! 😂😂😂
When the Renault 5 was new, 13/8 time from the speakers would have been a definite possibility.
Ha! Yeah it started as a joke when Ash and I were mounting up the 13" tires... Cheers!
It's so funny that you love Renaults
In 1965, my Dad bought my 3 brothers and I a 1960 or 61 Renault light blue with suicide doors. It looked like new we bought another engine at the Junkyard. we had so much fun with that car riding on our 160 acres in California.
OMG i have to dust of my highschool French😂
That black R5 has turned out SWEET( Douce? I suppose?)
I can sympathize with Dan on the mouse nest; I'm slowly pulling apart a 1975 Plymouth 360LA out of a Duster, and lifted the intake manifold to discover that mice had filled the entire lifter gallery with nest. The lifters are all rusted, and the cam looks like a cow stake! Inside storage is not always a guarantee of survival. Wish my motor came thru it as well as Dan's 351! The LA is currently marinating in a cocktail of PB Blaster and Marvel's.
Marvel Mystery Oil. What's in it ?
No one knows, it's a mystery.....
That little black Le Car is , dare I say ......cool looking! Those wheels are perfect for it
Steven Spielberg watch out. We have a new major film producer in the making. He even has a much in demand Movie Star signed up.😅
That is a great pantomime scene. It looks like Dean missed his calling; he should have been on the stage.
Thanks so much Dan! Dean is a natural, for sure!
R5 for the win!
LOL-Dean's dream sequence was excellent -I underestimated his talent!😀🤣😂
Dean has a second career as an avant-garde film maker! Say au revoir to him soon as he packs up and moves to France to become a famous director and premiers his latest at the Cannes Film Festival.
Well now...my dad had a 1973 Ltd. Same engine. Great car.
What a epic show Scott. I wonder why no one ripped parts of this vehicle in the past? Cause it was a cop car or just not the very exciting model? Still I would call it success even with a partial mouse house inside engine. Dan and Paul should get a hot sauce bottle, less issues dumping gas into the carburetor. I think one of the reasons why the carburetor was not a lump of pot metal is the fact the gasoline of the past was way better or it evaporated out without damaging. The Renault 5 is just epic like you can't get any better than this. I'm not a French speaker but the pantomime sketch was just hilarious. Thanks Scott for this awesome video. Cheers.
Hey thanks for the kind words; glad you enjoyed it!
I would have never guessed that Dean dreams in French but I can't wait to see Frankers' dream!
Great wheels on the Renault wheels. Fantastic show!
my first car was a 1973 custom 500 loved the car.
thanks for memories.
Right on! Thanks for watching!
Renault looks fantastic
After the '74 RCMP started, ran and moved it made me smile. Nothing like a vehicle sitting for decades starting and moving.
Great Show ! Dean Living in the dream.
Glad you got the cop car running. The initial exhaust cloud put a serious dent in the mosquito population!
Let's hope so!
Thanks!
Wow! Thanks so much, man! Very kind of you to again pitch in to help keep us going and keep the advertising to a reasonable amount... All the very best as always from everyone here...
Production value exceeded ALL expectations. I fear Dean may go solo, however... :))
Wow...... those 4 years of French that I took in high school FINALLY came in handy during Dean's dream sequence.😂
Excellent! "Merci pour regarder!"
Ahhhhhhh, best part of a Saturday!!!
WOW! Hat's off to the GCFCE & crew for the amazing resurrection of the RCMP Ford!!
And the remake of the 1960 French New Wave Cinema classic 'Breathless' (this time with Scott reprising the part originally played by Jean Paul Belmondo, and Dean somehow 'enhancing' the original screenplay by adding his best Marcel Marceau) was the proverbial frosting on the cake. Bravo, and cheers!!
Highwater video mark..! Congrats on renault skit..
Thanx mucho
Thanks very much Peter! Very kind of you to say. A lot of fun, and a lot of work! Cheers...
I'm old... I'm so old I saw those Fords being built... I'm old.
What can we say...Dan has the Christine of cop cars...sitting for 47 years and ...snip - brakes, trans, motor, carbs, tyres, lights...all hanging on for dear life...Incredible.
Then we have French cinema including a box fresh R5, with sev marchals and gordini wheels- awesome ;D Love to you all from the UK
Cheers Dan! All the best from here...
Greta Fog, Prop Wash Beard, and Dean Mime all in one episode! 👍👍
I’ve been watching the channel for 7 or 8 years and the dream sequence was the most incredible sequence I’ve ever seen 😂😂😂
Haha thanks! Glad you got a laugh like we did... Cheers!
That thing looks like it just got done chasing the Blues Brothers.
