Hi everyone! This week I got to hang out with Dean and check out his new car when he dropped off a hood for the 1951 Packard! All hands on deck for the Citroen DS project before we hit the road for Montreal, and a terrific example of a Classic Atlas Weathergard snow tire from the 50s! Hey, I once did Edmonton to Dorchester New Brunswick in 48 hours. 4,697 km You need two drivers and one needs to spend 7 hours, Sault St Marie to Ottawa, during the night, doing 90+ mp/h. He also needs to do about 38 hours of the driving. Google says 48 hours but doesn't account for every minute stopped getting gas makes it hard to keep a 100 km/h average.
After 65 years of loving the DS-19, I am still perplexed how Citroen ever got this project of the ground. Nothing to do with like and/or dislike, the complexity of how this vehicle was mass produced.( Not a single car has the same amount of spot-welds). My friend Pat is restoring one and yesterday I studied the forged suspension arms ( same on the SM) Not once have I seen a "bend" one. They move on needle bearings. As Scott pointed out, the rubber they used had to be one of the best qualities on earth . I wish you smooth sailing en route to YUL. Greetings from a warm YVR, The paint job on the car is almost sinful , the leather is delicious, what a beautiful job you boys did, Chapeau! Bas.
At 12:07 - Here in Brazil we say that these tires that are quite worn are from the "Kojak" brand. It is a joke that makes reference to the police TV series of the 70s, whose protagonist was the actor Telly Savalas whose character had that name and was bald ....

I really don't recall how I came across your channel, but it has become one of my favorite times of the week when your videos arrive! First off, I can't begin to say how amazing it is that you can do the level of bodywork you do! I have never seen this type of work, and I appreciate you "inviting" me in to see what is involved. Your methods really ARE amazing. Second, I love the variety (segments) you include on your videos...those are fun! And Frankers is a good host ;) Finally, something about your mannerisms and speech remind me SO much of my older brother who raised me (and who passed in 2001)...there HAVE been times when you've said something that actually made me gasp and rewind a bit to see if I'd heard what I thought. So...thank you for the fun, and for reminding me of good things, Scott. Tell the agents thank you for the fun, and give Frankers a treat from me!
Being the owner of a 48 flathead Ford V8 coupe ( New Zealand assembled out of Commonwealth plant in Canada) I stumbled across your episode with the 41 Merc cpe (something we did not get here because of the war). Since then I've just about watched all your other ones. Love the Fury build, you are a true craftsman. We got Canadian Chrysler products here too, as a kid, a bloke up the road owned a 61 Desoto Diplomat a yellow and cream one which left a big impression on me. There was also a light green Dodge version around ( not sure what the Canadian model name was but I remember older "kingsway"s). Keep them coming as I look forward to your updates. That Dean is a laugh and a half too. Best wishes from New Zealand.
What a treat! Tom's car is absolutely stunning. Hope he can keep it inside. Good to see him back. You are a very kind man Scott to help him out. Dino is something else-quite the Santa with the hood and tire-Thanks Dean! Please put logs or tires or bricks under the rear of that Chrysler. I realize you are not going to fix her-but she deserves better than with her back on the ground! Thanks for that. The DS-there are no words to describe with full attention what YOU and your helpers have built. A lot of miles to drive her . But better than a trailer. What are you going to do with the FRANKERS-taking her?? I sure she would love the leather. No apologies about future videos needed. Totally understood. Just know you make my weekend by sharing as well as others also I am sure! Thank you again Scott-be safe and well! Rich
I am always looking for new channels to watch and I hit the motherlode with yours. You have the kind of friends and projects that I would love to have. Thanks for the hours of great content.
In 1972 I worked as service station attendant at an Enco station (Esso in Canada) where we sold a lot of those Atlas Weathergards. We'd even put studs in them before we mounted them if the customer wanted studs.

The DS project is turning out amazing! It's now a better car than it was new. You guys are masters of your various automotive skill sets. Congratulatioons!
Scott you should spend the time sometime cleaning all your collector cars tires with westleys bleach white and then soak them in tire shine to slow down the rotting process! Also would be a good idea to slather a little used oil around the glass and under the trim! I am amazed your cars hold up so well in Canada. Those cars have been gone in Virginia since the 70's, they just totally rot down here from humidity I guess!
Here we are, the final Sunday. It's been an incredible journey and now the reward. Have a great trip to Montreal. Thanks for including us along the way.
The Citroen owner is going to be so bloody happy with his car, i cant put into words how gorgeous that car is and i believe even better than when it left the factory .... The road trip will be epic content !
Hi Scott. The hood fairy! Excellent. I'm looking forward to Dean's Tbirds. Road trip, much needed vacation. Tom's Chevy needs a radiator and heater core. Floorboards might be a challenge for him. I hope you have time for it. You should make a list of all your cars,(in the yard). I hope you get the retro gas station closed in too. The Cold War is heating up!
Mmmmmm, strawberry milkshake, I hate radiators with the transmission cooler across the bottom. One of my biggest fears is my transmission turning into a milkshake maker. I can't believe the DS is going to be leaving so soon.
Some version of Dean is sitting on the shoulder of every car lover reminding us of our roots. He may not have the technical and financial resources some of us have built up over the years, but he is completely honest about who he is> he is 110% dedicated to his cars (lives a hard life for them)> and there's no question they'd be fucked without him! Popular/valuable or not, they're a lot nicer to look at in one piece than smashed into a cube and he's saved a ton of them, bless his big goofy heart.
Dean's "New" Buick is decent and should be a great running car. Tom is making progress on the Impala, it's a great car. The DS is spectacular and the goddess.
Did anyone else get a palpable "French vibe" when you first look at a pudel with a nice hairdo, than you dive in to a DS engine compartment, and finally we get a look inside said DS with the narrator pointing out details with a lit cigarette...oh lal a! And another thing, if people at future car shows ask -Where was this wonderful DS built? And you show them a photo of Dean sitting in his "new" forklift in front of the shop and the yard surrounding it, they'll look at you funny and call you a liar...LOL! I love it!
The spring spacers on Tom's Chevy: back in 1970, kids would buy those things at the auto parts store and put them in the rear coil springs on their cars to provide clearance for big wide 50 series tires.
Couldn't have gotten a better looking hood for the packard. That thing matches the rest of the car perfectly like it came off it originally or something
What beautiful cars! The Impala looks like a remarkable find and you can just smell the leather in the exquisite DS! The engine bay! The stunning paint job. I can’t get enough of these ‘so natural’ videos. They really are The Best.
Love this channel and at least when he says "it is what it is" he isn't referring to so many avoidable deaths etc...from covid here in the USA. The coolest narrations concerning autos on youtube.. Brilliant friendly and one learns to appreciate such a diverse amount of stuff. One of the very best "shows" on youtube.
Tom picked an excellent car to restore. The frame looks solid. And the aftermarket is full of sheet metal pieces for these cars. And like your Fury, if Tom wants to take the restoration that far, that Impala is a high dollar car when restored.
If you're driving thru Ottawa, consider stopping off in Arnprior and try Wes's chip truck.Making fries since 1960 and selling them out of a '56 Ford truck.
I had an '86 Oldsmobile Delta 88 back in the day -- same car as that '88 Buick LeSabre. Same engine, everything. Great car -- those 3.8L V6s are awesome engines! Decent power and surprisingly good fuel-mileage. Still loving that '60 Impala of Tom's -- what a great car! And that DS -- man, that thing is turning out so well!! Gorgeous!
25-30 years ago my parents had a 1989 Oldsmobile 98 with mostly identical mechanicals to Dean's Buick. It had beautiful upholstry, a comfortable ride, and the requisite, sad made-by-Mattel dashboard. (GM always has to shoot themselves in the foot right in front of the person making the payments with their krappy dashboards.) They were kind enough to lend it to me for a little trip down from Lansing to Indiana and Ohio. I filled it up when I left and when I got back: 29.5 MPG USA gallons. They put only 135,000 or so miles on it. Unfortunately, they sold it to one of their not-very-careful grandsons who soon ran it into the ground.
Many of the posts mention the Citroën and the spring spacers on the Chev. What I've never seen on anyone's DS videos is the simple though ingenious mechanism that adjusts the oil feed to keep the car level no matter the load. It is easy enough to see from inside the trunk after removing a metal panel. Small torsion rods are anchored to the centers of front and rear anti-roll bars. The end of each rod has a small lever arm inside a cover in the wheel well. The lever arm works a spool valve with oil feed and release tubes in the body. When a load is added, the roll bar turns, moves the lever arm, the valve puts more oil in the suspension, (technical term = oleo struts). As the axles drop, car rises, the roll bars turn/torsion rods/levers shut the oil flow off. As the car moves down the road some oil pressure is lost, so one can hear the main pump cycle on and off to intermittently re-adjust/maintain the pressure in the central accumulator. This circuit also connects to the brakes, so that braking pressure adjusts to axle loading. Also runs the power steering. A separate pump runs the gear shifting and (i think) the de-clutching, which is modulated by a sensor/valve in the throttle linkage. Riding in the car one may hear funny noises like slurp, hiss, gurgle, jingle, jingle.
Toms Chevy is awesome what a find!! Love the drive over to check up on the progress...Love the channel people don't understand how less is more! Keep up the timeless footage!
Plans are made and then they change... just happy to see the Citroen close to a finish line given even if it means a note in the glove box or history cellar as to things that would complete a car that took the hours it did to come back.
man...the DS is something else. those rocket turn signals, really the whole car, make me think that the DS is what a person of the 1930's would imagine a space ship of the 1960's would look like. the dash is a jewel...multiple jewels...I don't even know how half of it would work!
Wow!! The production values. Great introduction to Dean's greasy flips and Classic Tire. Good work. I almost felt inappropriate sitting in the recliner in my underwear watching this. I promise next Saturday to wear a jacket and tie... well, maybe some socks.
Grand episode The DS, Man oh Manischewitz, what a sweetheart, and the interior lighting I'm speechless That Dean machine Buick, they were a good car back in the era Great footage of my classic tire that tire sure looks good Tom's 60 Chev will make a fun runner when it's sorted out. Hey, be safe on your journey to Montreal we all will be here when ya get back.

Looking great mate! I like the dash in Deans Buick,. it's one of those VFD things I always bang on about with the stuff I do. Also great to see a new hood for the Packard, so you didn't like the fit of the one we put there? haha... it does look more complete and the headlights will make it look far better on the lot. The DS is so close, but there's all the small stuff that keeps showing up that reminds us there's still more to do - running down to the wire now, you'll love coming home after the trip and seeing an empty space. Cheers and say hi to all your friends for me, cheers.
Frankers has met her match in that other dog i fear 😂 it’s worked out grabbing her ears is very effective! Look forward to more of Tom’s Chevy resurrection. The Citroen’s interior is fabulous! Looks like a vintage Art Deco cinema with the luxurious seats and the soft lighting, beautiful dash too. Mad to think as i type this on Sunday at lunchtime-ish that it’s finished ?! Bring on the road trip 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
exactly Dean, that's why i come here, no jerk yelling at the camera.😎 The Buick has the Holden 3800 V6 too.. Back in New Zealand in the 70's we used those spring spreaders to keep the front ends up ,and you could even get rubber ones. I've seen cars with 5-6 each side.
When I used to sell auto parts back in the 90s, you could buy spring lift kits that would raise the front end an inch or so on most coil springs. Like the ones Tom has on his 60. You would set them in (preferably on 2 sides of each spring) and turn the 1/2 inch head to lock in place. Id sell them once in awhile, but they were good for restoring a bad sagging spring to a better ride height so the shock could do its job.
Great job on the Citroen, and good luck on your journey across Canada! I hope to catch a glimpse of it on the road as you pass through Saskatoon. All the content you upload to RUclips and Patreon is always fantastic!
A DS marathon .......... I am not a Citroen fan ....but the display on this restoration is awesome , the work that goes into getting this type of vehicle restored cannot be measured... outstanding !!!!! the Atlas Weatherguard Plycron is a showroom piece !!!!!! its a keeper .......amazing ...it cleaned up to appear new er ....showroom fresh ??? awesome channel here , best you tube .........Keep 'em coming !!!!!!/// stay safe out there
Those spring helpers we call “knuckle busters”. We used to raise the front ends of pickup trucks with these to make them level. You put them in with a socket wrench and twist, hence the knuckle buster.
That laugh Tom has is priceless! Unbelievable work you guys have done on the Citroen and I don’t know how you have the patience for video and the work on something like that car. Dean and Jim are great dudes it’s always great when they’re on! Thanks for the honest, real and fun content. Glad you bring us along!

The only guys who give each other junk tires as gifts. One of the many reasons why I love this channel. #MyClassicTire
If you're driving thru Ottawa, consider stopping off in Arnprior and try Wes's chip truck.Making fries since 1960 and selling them out of a '56 Ford truck.
Enjoy the road trip.
Choice Citron...Exceptional restoration Cold War Motors!
This week, Scott forgets how to drive! Really looking forward to seeing the road trip video of that stunning DS. The new owner is a very lucky guy.
The DS is beautiful.
The DS is butter. I was impressed with Tom's progress on the Impala.I needed this. I Deaned the ignition switch on my van today. FML
Grand episode The DS, Man oh Manischewitz, what a sweetheart, and the interior lighting I'm speechless
That Dean machine Buick, they were a good car back in the era
Great footage of my classic tire that tire sure looks good
Tom's 60 Chev will make a fun runner when it's sorted out. Hey, be safe on your journey to Montreal we all will be here when ya get back.
My dad sold Citroen’s when I thort it was for pissing out of only and I saw nearly new examples of th3 one you have been rebuilding and I know how well you have done ITS A MIRACLE!!!.the French owe you big
Bring on the road trip 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
exactly Dean, that's why i come here, no jerk yelling at the camera.😎
The Buick has the Holden 3800 V6 too..
Back in New Zealand in the 70's we used those spring spreaders to keep the front ends up ,and you could even get rubber ones. I've seen cars with 5-6 each side.
The rust repear on the Impala will keep you busy for a week 😉
Really nice 60 Impala ,
When I used to sell auto parts back in the 90s, you could buy spring lift kits that would raise the front end an inch or so on most coil springs.
Like the ones Tom has on his 60.
You would set them in (preferably on 2 sides of each spring) and turn the 1/2 inch head to lock in place.
Id sell them once in awhile, but they were good for restoring a bad sagging spring to a better ride height so the shock could do its job.
The Dean's Greasy Flips title sequence nicely emulates drunk spins
the DS looks amazing..couple of things to finish and shes ready! looking foward to the fury and the impala..be good sir
That DS is just so beautiful. Amazing work, team!
Great job on the Citroen, and good luck on your journey across Canada! I hope to catch a glimpse of it on the road as you pass through Saskatoon. All the content you upload to RUclips and Patreon is always fantastic!
Frankers best show host 2020 😍
A great week with or without max editing....and the "Petrolicious" loving tire shots were a maximum treat as well!
Terrific teamwork on that beautiful DS! Talk about "All hands on deck"!
A DS marathon .......... I am not a Citroen fan ....but the display on this restoration is awesome , the work that goes into getting this type of vehicle restored cannot be measured... outstanding !!!!!
the Atlas Weatherguard Plycron is a showroom piece !!!!!!
its a keeper .......amazing ...it cleaned up to appear new er ....showroom fresh ???
awesome channel here , best you tube .........Keep 'em coming !!!!!!///
stay safe out there
Those spacers in Toms car were to jack up the spring/rear end a bit. Like shackles, old school. Tom and Dean are a hoot.
I love Scott! "OK set the hood on the Hudson....Don't scratch it" Hee hee
That impala is a beautiful car! Nice score Tom! The citroen is brand new Scott. Amazing restoration. Enjoy your trip across Canada eh!
The atlas weather guard was a fantastic fined. I don’t know when I’ve been more excited over the classic tire segment thank you so much.
Frankers looks to be in fine condition!

Love the outdoor museum! It’s just that with the length of inclement weather up your way makes me wish you had a steel building to house those old beauties.
Tom really picked a winner too!
*3am*
CITROEN!!
(Said like Jackie Gleason in Smokey and the Bandit) "There's no way, NO WAY, I'd ever tackle one of those
fancy Frenchie cars!"
That's more patience than both Job AND I can muster, right there....
Meanwhile here at the homestead, I have to report that an amazing group of people have made it their
mission to see that I don't lose my beloved old bundle of mismatched crap known as the GTX.
I've been blessed a thousand times over, just when things looked their darkest.
I am seriously not worthy but I am grateful as all get-out!
I've vowed to hang in here with you until I couldn't, Scott. I keep my word.
Y'all be safe up there,
-Ed on the Ridge
