Hi Everyone! This week I'm headed over to Jim's to have a look at Lindsay's 1961 Volkswagen Beetle project, and we'll check out Agent 4261's 1983 Chevy Impala that he's been driving for 18 years! More work on the 1960 Plymouth Fury interior, and of course Frankers is helping! Laura has decided on a colour for the Rover, but not before it gets some attention to the panel fit and more welding!
Thanks also to everyone who subscribed to our channel here, and thanks also for all of your "likes" and comments! If you would like to help keep our channel going, you can get a sticker, hat or a coffee mug at:
    www.coldwarmotors.com

Unfortunately and in general destroying things without purpose/necessarity attracts way, way more viewers than repairing/restoring old stuff... even if a big black Poodle is helping. A bunch of morons "earn" a lot of clicks doing really dumb things and the smart/clever and responsible acting guys usually don't... Sigh. ;-)

@PdrMarc I like most cars of that era. Comfortable and nice ride, lots of room inside!
As a mechanic I made a good portion of my living replacing camshafts on those old girls for a lot of years. I must have done 30 or more of those old 305s and 350s.

      @johnhpalmer6098 3 года назад

@@wysetech2000 Yep, had the 305 in my '78 Chevy Nova 2 door, bought it used in 1985 and that fall, I think it was, the cam shaft went. Supposedly, it had 50K on it, but it could have had 150K on it, but I suspect they go every 50K miles and one morning, bam, bam, bam, it knocked and bucked getting on the freeway when trying to get to work. A mechanic had to replace that camshaft and from what he said they lack oil pressure where the cam is, hence they go on the regular. Great handling car, but a POS otherwise.

    • @wysetech2000
      @wysetech2000 3 года назад

@@johnhpalmer6098 There were lots of theories on why they had camshaft problems but I never saw anything with absolute proof. Too bad because the rest of the engine was solid. I never saw a second failure on any of the ones I replaced but I always used an "after market " cam in them. Idling for too long in cold weather was suspect.

My blind grandpa bought the car without her knowing about it and forced her to learn how to drive. She was the champion in burning up clutches: She used to push the gaspedal down to the floor and started lifting the clutch slowly after that! It was terrible and entertaining at the same time!

When I see a vehicle around Eastern/Southern Colorado with rampant rust and "weight reduction holes" it's most often someone, usually military persons transferred from military bases elsewhere getting to enjoy Colorado's dry and fairly nominal rust issues. I admire all of you and your craftmanship abilities to cut out and replace the rust devastation you've come across in your projects. *MINI-FRANKERS!*
Sorry, rough week here, but grace Of God, I'm in attendance this morning... Ok:
    Subject #1: Frankers!
It's a good thing she is benevolent - a force of nature *that* powerful, if it were to fall
into more nefarious hands, could wreak havoc on civilization in short order, after all...
Scott is doing all humanity a huge favor by providing that little bit of foam for her
    amusement, seems like!
Subject #2: All the positive waves, man:
One of the biggest reasons I've stuck with CWM videos all these years, aside from
the typical rapier wit in ample supply, is simply all the positivity on display.
The visit with Jim is a good example of this - that dude is not only razor sharp and
quick, but his great attitude in the face of what appears to be huge amounts of laborious,
monotonous tasks is so inspiring. It's easy to see why he's buds with Scott, our own
    "can do" guy.
In a world full of negativity and half-wits, this sort of thing cannot be overstated!
    Finally, Subject #3: SUPPORT CWM!
Ok, y'all - get to supportin' the cause here and go sign up for Patreon to help CWM
moving forward (if you haven't already, of course) - or if nothing else, at least give all
the CWM back catalog a gander and spread the thumbs ups. It does matter!

The Rover is going to look great in dark green! The procedure for starting Al's nissan is a little less dramatic than what we saw in the Mini cold start video a few years ago haha.

58-61 beetles have some crazy color combos and distinct parts. Pretty sure that steering wheel/shifter/column/brake handle color is called hydrate green. A friend in Spokane has been collecting that stuff for years. He might have some to share if you want to go that way.
Nice to see another old beetle being saved. My daughter's maroon 74 standard sitting in the driveway is much less interesting than your Turquoise 61.

I have to admit, it feels good to share a little hard earned automobile knowledge on this channel. Hearing you guys talk about Plodges, Citroens, and any number of cold war relics with seemingly deep understanding is a bit overwhelming at times. We all know what makes them tick, but the idiosyncrasies and intricate tidbits are what separate the pilsner drinkers from the boys.
When all of this CVDBS finally passes us by, I might need to fire up the R90 for a cruise to Edmonton. Never been further than the Saddledome (for a Flames VS Wild game), but I can see my horizons expanding. But for now, I am babysitting frozen pipes, single digit temps, 30 MPH winds, and my second screwdriver. Summer is for traveling North, and I'm already North of most.

That VW brought mede me recall the 1961 bug I purchased in 1969 with a blown engine (that was the first year for the 40 HP motor upgrade, and there were problems with its reliability, in contrast with the prior tried and true 36 HP). Was able to find a 50 HP 1965 bus motor, and that 20% power upgrade allowed it to reach 80 MPH, but it felt like the front end was trying to lift off the road at that speed. Replaced the no gauge/reserve gas tank with a newer one that had a float gauge with the dash panel in the same color that fit in perfectly. The only rust on that car was around the rear bumper brackets, so I took it off, reversed the rear wheel rims and thought it looked cool with the single bus exhaust tail pipe hanging out the back. That car originally came with heater boxes around the exhaust pipes, which could give you carbon monoxide poisoning if the pipes rusted through. The bus motor had the heat exchangers which eliminated that problem, though. Thanks for the memories!

That Impala is well worth a like and obviously the agent that owns it has a fond spot for it after 18 years! Great car. Nice to see the R5 giving good service as well. Rover will look classy in a dark green, with tan interior. It was a popular colour back in the day. Great viewing as always and the highlight of the RUclips week! Best wishes from the UK

Being a "Bug" freak I'm going to love this project. I had '60 bug for a number of years in Germany. I loved it because when it came time to do anything on the engine it took only a few minutes to pull the engine and mount it on my engine stand which was an old Trans axle mounted to a 2X4 stand . Didn't take anytime to change a clutch, run the values or even to tear it down to the block. I could rebuild the entire engine over a weekend, pre run it on my "stand" and slide it back in. The hardest thing was refitting the tin. Beat the heck out of the 850 Fiat that for some reason kept blowing head gaskets. That is until one day I towed it out to the junk yard and personally pushed the button sending it on it's way through the crusher and onto its becoming new beer cans.

I am sure the fury door panels will look great once in situ and fully finished.
Did anyone spot Frankers at 48.01 ? She was half black and half white as she walked past camera 😂 😂
Good work on the Rover , lots of fiddly fettling !

'61 VW was my first car. Bought it in 1970 for $180. Had to rebuild the motor within a few months but that turned out well. Painted it '69 Dodge FireFrost Blue. Never got stuck in snow no matter how deep. Froze my ass off. Had to scrape the inside of the windshield. Sold it and bought a '55 Buick out of a field for $50 and drove that for a year. It had two heater cores..one under the dash and one under the front seat. Luxury.

Hard to believe how many vehicles are now rare. I remember playing punch bug as a kid and you could end up with a dead arm on a cross city commute. Thx for making even regular maintenance and cosmetics an intriguing view.
