One of the most comedy moments I ever saw with my own eyes was when I was parked at the side of the road, minding my own business, when a car wheel came past me, just rolling along dead straight down the road. It went on down the road some way, slowing as it went, over the centre of a small roundabout and came to rest on the far side of it. I looked behind me and saw a man peering at the rear of his Reliant Robin, which was leaning over to one side. Your wheel went that way mate!
Every body knocks plastic pigs, but back in the 80's when we still had proper Winters they were an affordable warm way to stay mobile for bikers through the cold months. I did a mushroom trip in one up at Castle Donington airport in 1983, tripping to Ten Years After - Another Space In Time & have many other happy memory's of them. Before you trash it, it is a classic motor, they don't make em anymore, spares etc are getting scarcer. Not wishing to piss on your fireworks or lecture you, but there's always another side to things.
Friend of mine had one for many years.. All he could afford. Not sure of the point of this video. Boys are bloody good engineers, of that there is no doubt.. But!
Best mod you can do for the old girl is a pair of MX5 tombstone seats, just drive bolts through floor and put spreader plates under the floor so you can get really good strength. Much of the parts are British Leyland parts bin stuff, the seats are actually Triumph Herald, wheels and brakes are Mini, steering column and wheel pattern is Triumph Herald, wipers are Metro at rear and generic capped off Mini front, headlamps are MK2 Ford Fiesta as are the indicators up front, rears are Ford P100 and some Escort van clusters, beware the front headlamps as they are a PIG to get installed properly. Locks are doors standard Squires, rear Metro tailgate, interior door handles are Marina. Anti roll bars there is a particular Peugeot GTi model that has the same fitment and are far superior to the Reliant ones, rear shocks the front gas dampers from a Mini will bolt straight in, front shock GAZ will make you a Reliant one up no problemo. Chassis is hot deep dipped galvanised BUT the steering A frame at the front that the front wheel etc attaches to is NOT and they are not fun when one disintegrates on you at speed. 2nd mod to do is to hardwire 12v bulb holders into the light cluster and hard wire the wiring into the existing circuit, also change the earth strapping for big beefy Transit earth straps oh and LED up where you can, I got 20 year LED's in mine and never let me down and very bright too.

I had one of these, very cheap to run, reliants when a poor student. I discovered that the door lock was no barrier to entry because if you gripped and pulled the door (while locked) forwards you could unlatch it and open it! I was once 'cut up' from the inside lane of a roundabout by a bigger car with a glancing blow on the front bodywork, which simply 'bounced' my reliant into a new direction. My suggestion for a project is to convert it into a boat and add external paddles onto the rear driven wheels.....with the front wheel as the rudder.
a friend of mine had the van version, went round round a corner too fast, went over on its side, split the fibre-glass behind the drivers door, slid across some grass, shaved some turf, which appeared, ready rolled in the back.

It's not a Rialto
Nice addition to the family 😜
The pinnacle of British car design 🙂
From the same country which has the most wins in F1
Symbol of its demise.
Think you mean pinnacle of British Motorcycle design
I think you will find Princess Ann, as she was then, had a Reliant Scimitar, which was decent car with a full compliment of wheels (4).
Reliant's factory was in the Midlands, either side of the A5. If you were lucky (or unlucky I suppose) a bloke came out, stopped the traffic as they moved the bodies from the fibreglass moulding shed across the A5 to the assembly line.
Thinking ahead to bonfire night - nice one 👍
🤣
Can wait to see a merlin fitted, it will sound even better, perfect run around for the yard 👌😄
Turn it into a budget off road military vehicle, complete with a crane or gun and camo paint job.
Princess Anne had one of these!
Perfect.
