I BOUGHT JIM BOWEN’S BENTLEY

- Just to be clear no damage to that car was done making this video.
I plan to take this 1997 Bentley Turbo R on a road trip to France. On a military Vehicle and military history related trip later in the year.
On top of fixing tanks and military vehicles, I will have to get this car in tip top condition for this journey. - Авто/Мото
This channel has reached fookin legendary status 🤌🏻🔥😂
As Jim once said `And what a lovely bunch of coconuts you are!`
An old Bentley is the perfect car for you. It is heavy as a tank, and the parts are as expensive and hard to get as parts for an old tank. You will love this car😂
It’s actually a great car
@@MrHewes And even better when you put a Meteor engine in it, and some huge low profile highly chromed spinning rims
ruclips.net/video/Q9DbxabcZy8/видео.html
Just kidding I wish you and and you and your new car best. And I am sure you will take care of it, In a proper way
Parts for a '97 Bentley shold be easy to find. Slow and expensive to *get*, but easy to find. Unless he was on an actual goat track, that suspension is munted. It should be quite wafty driving it on most roads. Not as wafty and floaty as a Rolls, but as good as a Citreon from the same period. The electrics will never all work. It's simply a law of physics: British electrics do not work because Reasons. The main Reason is because they were installed by people that regadred electricty as Foreign Juju, so they just tossed the wiring loom in and tamped it into place with wooden sticks.
So long as you approach driving and owning a Bentley as Piloting A Lounge Chair That Runs On Money then you'll be fine.
And it consumes as much Petrol as a Tank
@@MhG2017I was just going to quip that, but you beat me to it 😂
Before anyone gets upset. The car was not damaged making this video. 🇬🇧
Ted will personally remove negative comments. 🐶
A good thing NO Bentleys were harmed during this production. I was afraid for a monent
Love it ❤ its all for Ted 😊
Have a darling my self ❤
🤣🤣
👌🏻😂
What do you mean?! Bentley have a great racing heritage, so that’s how it SHOULD be driven 👌🤣
The seller probably had it delivered on a low loader for 99.9% of the way, then drove the last mile to your house 😂
Haha clever 😅
As soon as I heard the delivery distance I thought the same !
Bob Monkhoues once said “crime does pay , I’ve just seen Jim Bowen in a Bentley “. Bless them both .
I came along this channel recently and have watched all the back catalogue (still having no particular interest in tanks) and have come to the conclusion these guys are the of epitome of English eccentricity and long may they reign...I feel for the uncertain future of that poor Bentley.
I love the Bentley she’s a keeper
Just change out the drive train for a set of tracks and it will be golden :)
In other words they’re a bunch of crazy scallywags from the UK.
100% church of England... car and channel
"mind you tail Sir", something I never thought I would hear. Your supporting cast, including Ted were all great in this. Your sense of style and humor are appreciated. Great video.
Peter Sellers had an undiagnosed squeak in his Bentley so he went to Spike Milligan and asked him to try and listen out for it and pinpoint said squeak. Sellers then suggested to Milligan if he could get into the boot and listen out for the squeak when driving slowly so he did and promised to mark any squeaky locations with a piece of chalk. So the car was driven carefully for a while until Sellers was stopped by a Policeman. He was asked why he was kerb crawling opened the boot saw Milligan thought nothing of it and let them go.
Where else will you see a Bentley drifting round a tank 😂
...to the strains of "Land of Hope and Glory"!
You are the epitome of class and refinement, long may you reign!
Cleary that ones got into the wrong hands.
Bit of a shame.
This is what Top Gear should be. Excellent.
Agree
Well he's nailed the Clarkson intonation and use of "in the world" so half way there 😂
Traction control is linked to steering angle sensor. When one gets the tracking done, the steering wheel generally gets lined up to match. If previously the steering wheel had be set with unaligned wheels to the central position, (sensors are steering wheel based), then there will be a conflict of data later on. This causes the symptoms you describe. You'll need someone with access to a scan-tool with the right software to readjust the relationship between wheels and steering wheel angle (get tracking and general steering mechanism checked first). You can also trigger the ABS/Traction control system if you're a bit heavy on the throttle, because these cars have so much torque that they need the pump to run and catch a wheel trying to spin up. This will briefly light the dashboard light up by way of a gentle warning to the driver. As a general rule, don't 'cheap out' on maintenance or service parts quality, such as tyres or filters. These cars are amazingly reliable when used regularly, but also maintained to the letter. Have fun. Life is too short to miss the chance of experiencing the luxury of the extremely wealthy, before you die.
Absolute class. You are most definitely a worthy custodian of Bowen's Bentley. I'm sure he would have been impressed with your drifting. You can't beat a bit of bully.
Super..smashing..lovely
@@benitobueno3373he he lol
Clearly that ones got into the wrong hands.
Bit of a shame.

I love this one plan to keep her going as long as possible
At a Rolls Royce dealership in the 90's my dad as how much power the car had......"I think you will find it is adequate sir"
@@christianjackson9534 I think Rolls' reply used to be:
"Sufficient for purpose Sir"
Top notch content as always. Loved bullseye when I was little, “You live in a block of flats in Birmingham, you’ve won a speedboat” 🤣
Did anyone else think that Joe was going to attach the tow strap to the badge bar?😂
Also Seb as chauffeur in dealer boots!😅😅😅
My old boss, Des Winks (ex British rally x champ), had a Bentley R, and complained to Bentley that the inner wing paint was being rubbed off by the bonnet during flex round corners. Bentley eventually told him to slow down. Well he did live in Yorkshire. He ended up racing in the Porsche series.
Des Winks from Scarborough??
Yes, I worked at the Honda dealer in Snainton.

One of your best videos yet. Keep it up!
Fabulous episode. The ending (Bullseye) was superb, I genuinely laughed out loud, well done Jack, you have funny bones 😂
I so wanted you to win a speedboat on bullseye! Can’t wait to see the Bentley with a tow bar pulling the boat along.
That gave me a good chuckle. I'm already looking forward to the adventures in foreign parts in warmer climes. I do hope that you treat the old girl with love and tenderness. She deserves to be molly coddled from time to time. ❤❤❤
Whether it’s tanks or Bentleys your videos are always entertaining ! Please keep going. I’m glad Ted has a nice ride now
pretty sure thats the first power sliding Bentley I have seen. kudos.
Nice motor, nice colour and a great way to represent good old England on your trip to France.
Yes, in many ways you could describe it as the epitome of England.
Thank you for the content. Great humour, Appreciate the effort you guys put into this, thanks.
You cannot beat an old Bentley! We did a 2,000 mile trip around France in an Arnage last year and it was wonderful. Best of luck with yours.
You’ve nabbed my favourite spec there! Turbo R’s are wonderful old things. Quite quick and surprisingly rewarding to hustle if the mood takes you. I’ll be tackling France with my E39 later in the year, but I’m quite jealous of your chariot.
It is nice to see Ted getting the proper level of respect for his station of the team. Bravo!
Lucky you had the Bentley recovery vehicle! Love the tag still on the jacket too :)
Brilliant video! Keep these going... great humour and often today the world is lacking in this!
I hope more care will be taken of the car when transporting Ted. 🙂 A pity about the ice on the pond Joe, When you're on your knees, saying your prayers before you go to bed, have a quick word. 👍🫵👍
hilarious! lovin the nostalgia, hope you film the epic French trip in the bentley..
Just love it , well done gang , the best you tube channel fr sure 👍💯😉
Love this channel, and this is the best episode yet.
More please!
With all the negativity in the world, this was comedy gold. Hilarious from start to finish. I reckon you should make a Bentley pick up
What a great show!!! I smiled through the entire event!!!! The game show was awesome!!!! Jack was in his element!!!! I see a new career in his future!!! Ted’s new doghouse should be the premise of his own show. I’m sure he could devise several plots he would need to be chauffeured to. 😃👍🏻👍🏻
Very Clarkson esk! Great vid as ever. Keep up the good work.
Your content is chaos you live like a madman. Thank you.
I admire your bravery buying an old Bentley just to do a trip to France. Having said that I have driven to France a lot over the years and the cars I've used have been Rover, Jaguar and Land Rover. All known for their excellent reliability 🤣
Yes, but can you fix a tank?
@@MrSeeuu Depends what is wrong with it 🤣
I admire his bravery for the question about which room a woman is rumoured to belong in during the ‘It’s a Bullseye’ segment. 😅
I suspect the ride is so rough because the spheres are knackered. Over time the nitrogen leaks out making the ride firmer and firmer. Worth considering if you plan on using it on the road. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
What a beauty - a fitting addition to your British Power team. Well Done, and Thanks to your guiding light, Ted.
You guys are the best! Bright spot of the day bay far.
You boys crack me up. Loved the ending 😂
Brilliant video chaps
I love your new wheels Ted.....make sure they look after it for you!
Just found your channel, fascinated by all the heavy equipment 🤟, you boys crack me up too!
Hears what you would have won A speed boat.😂
Total fun film. Brilliant, thanks all. 😊👍🏻
Joe! You and the crew absolutely crack me up with laughter though you are all amazingly clever when it comes to mechanics and restoring!! By the way Joe, you did not look like Corbyn but would say more like John Boy Walton from the Waltons lol. Great channel and shows. Keep up the good work!
Excellent episode and will probably become one of your most watched. !! Up there with Jack as Lord Flashart
Great video lads, very funny 👍👍👍
My old local pub landlord drove this for Jim for a long time. My band used to play at his put at Arkholme years ago - top bloke.
Did Jim not have a dark blue Bentley, reg was J80 WEN
Thank you, you have brightened my day with laughter
lol never a dull moment.Good luck with the new wheels!!
Great bullseye sketch 😅. You should have wheeled out that shagged out speedboat and said "Look at what you could have won!!" I bought one of Jim Bowens suits in a charity shop. Found Three hundred quid in one pocket and a set of darts in the other! Minted.
Congratulations Mr Hughes you’ve hit the Bullseye 🎯 there with that Bentley 😂
Brilliant. Smashing vlog. He used to own Greenfields pub at Pontin's Morecambe, there were genuine Bullys behind the bar. My mrs got one. We kept it until we moved out of t'house 8 year ago.
Nearly pee’s myself laughing-what a fabulous crew-every video a winner. From a Yorkshireman living ‘down under’ Greeting may you live long and so British.
Looks like a trip to the south of France in the Fowden is a coming up!
I have a Discovery TD5, it has sport mode, the most optimistic button in automotive history.
Great stuff. Good to see the Saracen and Stalwart again. Drove them many years ago !
Absolutely brilliant sir! An if the Bentley breaks down you’ve always got your BFH 😂
They are super cars. I love the Arnage it's the only car I've ever really wanted. They are just pure undiluted class. This colour scheme and interior are just perfection.
Super, smashing, great, lovely.....now, let's see what you could have won 😂
Brilliant video ted looked fantastic very funny loved the darts too nice one.😂🐕🤓
That was good enjoyed that with the Bentley, and the last bullseye question, 😅😅 great stuff.
best opening - "seeing as nobody asked...."
Super, Smashin, Great .😂👍
Brilliant video well done chaps!
They are all just as mad as last year except Ted of course. Well done you made an old man laugh.
Finally, recognition of Ted as the boss. Don't tell him you took the Betley off-road though...
My first thought with your get up was Harold Lloyd the legendary silent film actor (he was up there with Charlie Chaplin & Buster Keaton). The only thing that was harmed were the rear tyres during the burnout but you said that they were perished so nothing wrong with seeing them off in style. I think you did more harm to your clothes than the Bentley. I remember Bullseye back in the day (essential Sunday teatime viewing) and it was from the golden era of British TV. Super, smashing, great as the late great Jim Bowen would say. Tony Green is still alive at the ripe old age of 84.
Good to see an explanation of the phenomenon that was Jim Bowen :)
Dammit I just love that rising "Land of Hope an Glory" stirring in the background. Esp contrasted with everything knackered. Love you dudes. Keep it up!
haha just got to the part of the drifting! Thought it was just a little hidden inside joke until that point!
You lot are kin mental but please don't stop it brightens up my day.
Loved the careful road test.
When you mechanically kill the Bentley, try swapping the body onto a Toyota Land Cruiser chassis.
Then you can have the best of both worlds 😜
Hi Joseph,
For some reason this episode seems quite hilarious but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Personally, I don't think purchasing the Bentley as a shopping car for your girlfriend is a bad choice, although she will regret that the off-road properties do not really excel, but you can of course always drive after her with one of your tanks to take the shortest way to the shopping mall.
I look forward to your next vlog and send you love from The Netherlands
Great video as usual!
Just found your channel.
Hilarious, had to subscribe!
😂😂😂. What ya done to ya shoes 👞 love the bulls eye 👁 👀 😂😂😂
I loved Jim Bowen nice video
My old man met him at a work conference in the 8s as he was the entertainment
Dad said he was a really lovely bloke. No pretension or ego spoke to everyone and genuinely a great bloke
Brilliant video!
I proper belly laughed when you ended up in the duck pond (I've ruined me boat shoes!) and when your country squire chinos ended up brown kneed whilst having to juggle country gent responsibilities with recovery man duties.
Just brilliant 😂
😂😂😂❤ seems to go alright 👍 did a great job on the paddoc too 👏 if you are really worried about those flashing lights you might have to get someone to fault read the ecu... otherwise send it👍
“Kitchen Jim” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you do get to tour France, you would be made welcome in Azay le Ferron! Not many tanks here but plenty of old tractors.
I like how this kinda started as an episode of Top Gear, back when it was good and not with new people who made it suck. Beautiful looking car, hope it treats you well.
🇬🇧🇺🇸
Stumbled upon this, don’t know how.Hilarious 😅 thank you.
Excellent British humour. Carry On Bentley 😂
The Bentley had the turbo and still only did 22mpg, bonus was the double anti roll bar to make it handle better. Plus side is. you’re not far away from flying spares. Enjoy the tyre costs fella too.😂
You bought Jim Bowens Bentley. Super, Smashing Lovely.
love the vids keep em cominggg
Ted's looking quite natty in his sport coat and bowtie! 🐶
dog's gotta have a Bentley, can't argue with that 👍
9.52 - "And that's how you plough a field with a Bentley", lol! (I wonder if more farmers will buy them after this inspirational clip!)
As clarkson would say its like power sliding a stately home . Great video 😆
I've got a very similar one of these, slightly earlier (1996), slightly shorter, and almost the same colour, though mine is the metallic version which Bentley calls Wildberry Mica. I really like the colour and think it suits it well, but that's subjective of course. The wood in mine is a lighter colour too, and I don't have the picnic tables in the back either. I can't help you with the traction control as that's an option mine doesn't have. My indicator stalk didn't self cancel when I got it, though it was when I went left rather than right on yours, I had it replaced at great expense, the black ones are hard to get hold of apparently, before 96 they were all chrome. The chrome one is a Lucas model which you can get much cheaper if you feel like sorting that out. I believe the cruise control stalk is American, probably GM.
The switch at 5:21 is for the lights, in the up position it turns on the light behind the sun visor, in the down position it should turn on all interior lights. There's a microswitch that keeps the sun visor light off when it's folded up so it might look like it's not working when it is, at least in that position.
I got mine for long journeys, though not as long as you have planned, but it really is excellent for that. Extremely comfortable and just eats up the miles, though it is pretty thirsty as I'm sure you know by now. Sport mode doesn't do much really, just holds gears for longer when you put your foot down.
Head gaskets are a worry but I don't think they're as bad as a lot of people make out they are online. Just make sure the engine is properly warmed up before doing any spirited driving.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine!
Bloody shocked that you can feel bumps while driving through potholes! It's certainly no Rolls-Royce, but then you explained the Bentley has stiffer front suspension, so maybe it's forgivable... 😉 Congratulations on your purchase of a magnificent British lounge-room to drive around Europe! 😁 👍
suspension spheres are knackered through lack of maintenance almost certainly not reconditionable but worth checking out with the sphere specialists 'Pleiades'
The fronts are just McPherson struts , but they may have active ride height solenoids fitted I think. The rear suspension has the Citroen type spheres, which as you surmise are probably buggered with no nitrogen in them and full of LHM oil
I love it yellow trousers and mr Hewes is liying in a field and jums in a pond great video. For start of the year thanks
Surreal. Jack your talent is wasted on tanks, day time tv is your natural habitat.
