  • Before trying to make a hat out of a beautiful large piece of Olive I want to try a small scale mock-up in Cypress, so I could practice the process. It was a good lesson.

    Welcome back Yuval. You deserve a feather in your hat for that project. Catches have always been and still are heart-stoppers for me.
    Looking forward to the finished hat in Olive wood.

    I'm looking forward to seeing a big hat now. Check out the homemade frames for bending the rim and squeezing the bowl to make it oblong like our heads if you decide you might make the Olive wood hat wearable.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  5 лет назад

      Well, at the moment I'm not sure it will be large enough for an adult head, but as I'll be at it I will decide. I can always soak it in water and make a jig to shape it and let it air dry into shape.

    Hello Yuval, So you felt the need to do a practice piece before turning most of that pretty, attractive, beautiful, nay gorgeous piece of Olive into shavings? My jealousy knows few bounds. It had better be up to your usual standard. The late Tony Hancock might have said, "It may only be a piece of firewood off the tree in the garden to you, but it's pure gold to many a poor devil." Anyway, bring the shavings over to Makers Central and raffle them. Oh, and my hat size is 7 3/8 " . . . . Regards, Glenn :-)

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  5 лет назад

      I'm so sorry Glenn, I don't this piece will be large enough for your measurements... But if this one turns well, there will be a larger, better one on its heels!! Any way my lathe can only hold 12 inches, so if you really want a wide brim hat instead of a Fez, it will have to wait. Also, good idea about ruffling the shavings :)
