School age stage is a time of asking: “How do I matter here? (performance, achieving, excelling, caretaking, etc.)” “Adolescence should be a time . . . of conscious experimentation . . . with ideas, models, role models, trying on styles of life…” “When you are shame based, you are mourning for your authentic self.” “You do not have to take care of them anymore. . . You have to leave that connection (with the people who hurt you), because that’s been killing you. You need to have your own life. You have a right to your own life. . . You came into this world to have your own life.” . . . “I choose my very own life. I am responsible for my own life. I’m saying goodbye to you now because I have to have a life. . . . I’m a powerful person now, and I’m going to run my own life.”
I love all this he was the man. I have studied and supported him for over twenty years…. Sharing with my immediate siblings after blow outs. SIP John……
Never have I come across anyone who has stated what I learnt quickly. Infant school was beautiful..creative with lots of loving playmates. As soon as I got to Junior School I became quickly aware of Class distinction, Racism ( I was mistakenly regarded as being Oriental) bullied unmercilessly, not just from children ... teachers could also be tyrants. How can any child concentrate on schoolwork when you'd dread going "Home" and finding your Mother dead.
Interesting if I were to share this series with some one I might actually show this episode first so the person would understand why this journey is necessary.

JB isn't telling you the Teachers have a Shame based childhood too. They have been known to Shame students for not measuring up to the level of the other's. I have been following JB for about 40 years. I see Shame based childhood in people everyday. My favorite phrase for some adults are "Kids in Adult Clothing" acting out a broken childhood!

One way I can tell how someone has a shame based childhood is. When they call someone "nice" when they are getting respect.
