  • Two giants in the field of recovery, John Bradshaw and Patrick Carnes, have labored separately and together to empower sexual health in people. Over a decade they did workshops together, called Sexual Shame: the Agony and the Ecstasy. Both were known for their inspiration and entertaining presentations.
They reunited for an evening to support the Houston Council on Addictions sponsored by the Meadows in Wickenburg where both have served as Senior Fellows for years. Production support came from the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) and the American Foundation for Addiction Research (AFAR).
John Bradshaw died peacefully on May 8, 2016. His death in effect makes this not only the last time these two icons of recovery help appear together, but John’s last public appearance. John’s life, books, and example has touched many millions of people. His PBS series have been one of the widely watched public broadcasting programs ever. He has written many books which continue to be on best seller lists including classics such as Bradshaw on the Family, Healing the Shame that Binds Us, and Homecoming.
On behalf of the Council, the Meadows, IITAP, and AFAR, their staffs, members and alumni, we post this recording of his last moment in public life to honor all that he has done and was.

I am blessed to say John Bradshaw touched and change my life forever. A man that gave me tools to find the lost child that was struggling to survive in a very cruel world. The very first man that I can honestly say that I told that I loved him the first day I met him in person in Napa Ca. It felt like something I had never experienced. Rest In Peace John, I Love You Dearly..........................

      Robert,
      Thank you for your share.
      I feel the exact same sentiments about two men;
John Bradshaw and Dr Charles Whitfield.
      Completely changed my life.
Both handheld me to the truth.

I was privileged to see John Bradshaw live in Sydney. In a building at Sydney Uni. I have also been privileged to meet Pia Mellody in Sydney when she was guest at an alumni gathering. I also went to South Pacicfic Hospital in Sydney based on the treatment model of Pia Mellody. Thank you so much for including me indirectly in your work. How blessed am I.

Patrick Carnes' book "Out of the Shadows" is remarkably written. He needs ALL his books in audio form. All of them. Thank you. Many will listen who won't sit still and read. We listen at work. We take notes. Stop, reply, listen again. Bookmark significantly beautifully written bits that speak to us.
Listening more, I can see why John is beloved how he is. He has what is necessary to connect to with all, humor. He puts us at lease. Wonderful man. Great team. What a gift to mankind, both of them. I'm put all Carnes books into Audible's search engine, which I believe they moderate, so hopefully his will get recorded like John's.

I listened to it on Audible (go to Amazon.com then search Audible or download the Audible app (free) then search Out of Shadows. I then bought the Kindle version to have the printed words and my highlights. Money well spent. I just think ALL his books need recording. Audio works best to infiltrate our brains. We can read and re-read, but what you hear gets digested better, and faster.

Very good point made at 1.05 .."singularity of purpose" versus a broad spectrum approach.'. I listen to Eckhart Tolle who I found helpful and he'd say there is only ONE issue. ONE underlying driving factor that leads to humanity's destructive, unconscious, reckless, behaviour. Human ego. It tells us "'we must experience MORE pleasure in order to survive"' driven by Dopamine etc. Fear does play a huge part. It (ego) appears to encompass ALL forms of addiction, and the downward spirals of humanity that afflict us. The recommendations/solutions are very similar in some ways. There has to be conscious awareness in order to stop. I think Dr Jeffrey Schwartz would agree. Thank you for this superb video. Both such wonderful speakers and so sorry to hear of Mr Bradshaw's demise.

The will is a physical force that can change the brain. You can create a new brain because of nuro-plasticity.
Believe that your will power can change your brain, and thus feeling and behaviour.
you act yourself into the right way of feeling and thinking.
Don't try to think yourself into right action.
    🌿🌿🌿🌻🌻🌻🌹🌹🌹
Use will power to change yourself, not your partners.

an 'Egalitarian social structure' has been worked historically to the reality that the result is separation / divisions that results in a break down socially of roles / beliefs that are outcome based to evaluate needed changes / needed changes to resolve harmful outcome(s) repeating to where we all are today ... stuck in harmful roles ... i.e. Healthy Coping Mechanisms need to be always at the forefront of needed change ...

She did not want me to talk to her sister in law but when I did her sister in law told me to take her to saint Joseph's behavioral health in Stockton because their insurance would cover her there. When I asked Amanda if she would let me take her there she got extremely upset. She said she wanted to go to the alanon meeting. I took her there. She did not want me to go in. So I picked her up after it was over.

Her sister in law said Amanda was overdrawn $900. She said Amanda's brother would come to Stockton on Friday. I did not tell Amanda I talked to her sister in law. I came home from work the next day and found Amanda dead. It looked like suicide. Her brother did not show up in Stockton the next day. But my brother had been sent by the trucking company he worked for on a load to a town 13 miles from Stockton. I think someone murdered Amanda and tried to pin it on my brother. Amanda told me she was afraid her sister in law's family was going to murder her.

I noticed she looked a lot like Amanda. The woman was also very much into women's golf. I am wondering if someone has not been trying to blackmail that woman and getting me mixed up with her.
