I'm a psychologist and I can relate to all that he says , both personally and professionally. He is a powerhouse of wisdom. So much clarity and such amazing information, imparted so clearly and simple. His humility shows when he says you don't have to buy my book if you don't want to. You can borrow it from a library. This is so contrasting to the tons of self help/ life coaches who arrogantly tell you to buy their books and make tall claims. This man is a gift to humanity. God bless him and his work. Thank you for making such interviews freely available on RUclips.

✨So beautiful! This gives me hope that my mother could still decide to grow. She’s in her 70’s now and I gifted her one of Gabor’s books recently as I saw she had a list of his books written on her counter. Apparently my cousin’s gf recommended them to her. I haven’t met her yet but I knew she was some kind of gift… if she planted the seed with the book recommendations and I watered it with the book… I hope it’s enough for that seed to grow 💖
Thank you for continuing to grow and giving hope and inspiration to others.

False diagnosed by a inexperienced therapist which had just started therapy practise and she had only seen me 3 to 5 times - diagnosed me with Bpd - had to take overdose of SSRI and gained terribly weight and other severe side effects - when I informed our experienced family doctor - he warned me that most of those "diagnosis" are terribly wrong and he gave me the wise advice to tapper those medication which I started immediately with success - never ever had a personality disorder at all - never ever will take any medicine nor diagnosis from any therapist or psychiatrist at all - my trust into those psychodocs has gone - today I do help myself with watching videos from Gabor Mate which helps me more than any mediciation could ever do it for me.

I was misdiagnosed with BPD and a therapist (not a prescriber) tried to scare me into trying an SSRI for early pregnancy anxiety due to hormonal changes. I soon felt much better without a single intervention, thanks also to my pregnancy hormones. Pregnancy and breastfeeding were protective for me, and I trusted myself to seek care if I were to need it. Later on, I was able to correct my diagnoses and eventually after significant effort and expense received appropriate care from individuals who listened to me. I am able to tolerate a low dose SNRI now as part of my treatment plan. SSRIs are incredibly dulling and numbing, but they can help those who are highly anxious, for example. Medications can have a place, and treatment must be individualized and only competent prescribers should be the ones to recommend them.

Dr Gabor Mate is an inspiration and I resonate with him whenever he speaks.
I had Breast Cancer back in 2019 and it was a total shock as I was 31. Honestly, it is one of the best things that happened to me as I became sober from alcohol and changed my life. It was traumatic too.
I quelled a lot of my anger and suppressed trauma for years. I had a very traumatic childhood and still working through this trauma now. I have changed a lot as a person as a result of the cancer.
My mother passed away from cancer and we had a strained relationship and I held anger and resentment towards both of my parents. One of the best gifts I'm giving to myself is the space to heal and attending therapy so I can be a healthier person and have healthy relationships.
It's quite amazing how dissociated and disconnected we become due to trauma. Thank you for this great video and for your channel! I appreciate these wise conversations, especially considering the world we are in.

Even as a scientist and doctor, someone who avoids using words around "divinity," he respects those who see the world animistically and spritually. Science is a valid way to see the world but it is not superior to, and is incomplete without, the heart-centered/intuitive/feminine/indigenous gnosis.

Growing up in another country (a collectivistic country) I soon noticed that loneliness, isolation and disconnection were the main themes illustrated in American movies. I then moved to the US and could see first hand how the possibilities of becoming independent so quickly made it possible for someone to just move away and be on their own...which could be great, except that it perpetuates separation and keeps people detached from others. Connection is the solution to many mental health and societal issues. I think.

Just stayed up to listen to this. I’ve always loved the wisdom from Dr Mate. I’ve been spending my whole life (but much more focused in the past few years) to find out my true authentic self as I find so many contradictory traits. After listening to this podcast, I have been able to dig up and identify with my childhood traumas which helps me take in the fact that I was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago and suffered from anxiety for almost two decades. Now I feel so much aware of why I have certain personality traits that I do and can be more accepting of the way I am and also my diagnoses. This feels absolutely so liberating I’m almost in tears! ❤

This was a helpful episode I’m reaclimating with indigenous culture and I’m Canadian and I think it has done more work on my issues than years of therapy and many pills. It has made me realize we need to be one with the world and work together it helps me get out of self and it’s made me more present and grateful. This is a great episode I wish there was a simple way to immerse yourself into indigenous culture

Also at home. A lot of parents think spanking their children teaches them positive behaviors when really, they’re just beating the soul and critical thinking and self expression out of their child. Parents want their children to be scared enough of them to just listen to everything they say without question. Critical thinking for themselves and questioning things isn’t allowed.

It's the only way we will ever understand how to Revere our lives and enjoy our time here!. I don't know how people , especially those who are considered experts in this field, don't know that our lives here are 100% scripted and centered around all of us suffering, unless we figure out how to not suffer!

    I NO LONGER
    HAVE MY VOICE SILENCED.
    I ROAR!!
    You are constantly being re-born,
    re-created, re-generated, every moment!
Concepts, thoughts, and stories are constantly being re-created.
    You are generating it ALL,
    and this is unconscious.
When you ‘uproot’ repression and suppression, you unveil Flow.
    You CAN change
    IN! AN! INSTANT!
    Every morning you wake up,
    your life story is re-constructed...
Do I have to wake up believing reality is the way I believed it was yesterday?
When breathing is restricted, get curious about what is holding it back,
when it is open, get curious about why that is...
    YOU ARE THE ARTIST!
Awareness of something alone IS enough!
    It untangles itself,
the knots lets go of You.
    Choose Freedom.
Take responsibility for your own suffering.

I've never heard Dr. Gabor Mate write or speak hateful, intentionally politically divisive and scientifically ill-informed words. Also, when Dr. Mate speaks and writes, it's all coming from his experience as a medical doctor, not speaking from the hip continually from his person and political inclinations. Understand similarities where they may exist but don't obfuscate clear differences either.

I have only listened to the first 15 minutes and am filled with so much gratitude for someone who speaks the truth and in such a lucid and insightful way. I saw the towers on fire in NYC. I didn't think they would fall, and I got on the train to go to work. I remember thinking - whatever is happening to the towers will be used as a pretext to bomb an oil-rich country and/or a country that we can easily attack and profit off of. And I was 100% right. And as Dr. Mate said, anyone paying actual attention would have known the "weapons of mass destruction" malarkey was a con. Long story a bit shorter - we have to somehow find our way back to the natural world, from birth to adulthood, we have to live more freely and naturally. Even childbirth has detached us from nature - women birth in sterile hospital rooms with doctors who want to go home early so they perform c-sections. And the hospital gives women free formula...This is just the very beginning of all the steps the "powers that be" do to detach us from our true, natural, loving, healthy selves.

I love that you mentioned birthing and motherhood! I kid you not, I grew up thinking I *hated* children and was repulsed by the thought of being a mother and having my own family. Guess what, it is the culture women have to be mothers in that I detest. Still very much child free at this point but this was an incredibly valuable insight to me and showed me once again that it is not me who is broken.

to give love despite the noise and barbs of another's mind, to give love without any hint of "its too much" or "what about me", to give love because you know the cisterns of love will never empty, to give love because the response if any does not matter, to give love because you know there is "no me" lies towards the end of your journey....it is ok and wise to step away from perceived harm to find your true self first before embarking on giving the pure love that is still hidden and still waiting to flow from your heart...if it hurts, you are not ready yet…if your not ready, find a meditation group and learn how to still your mind…as you do, your heart will fill the stillness... the transformation from the unconscious to human consciousness is beginning to dawn....thank you Gabor for your wisdom
