Thanks so much for posting this video! 💐 I'd read 'Homecoming' years ago but either lost the book or loaned it to someone ... It's great to re-discover John Bradshaw now that I'm working through my shame issues in counselling. 🙏💕

It's always now. Be kind and close your eyes. Find the you you wish had known in a moment you wish to have known it and let that 18 year old self know that you have it now, and that you will always have it, and that everything is OK.

Holy crap. The "compulsive compliance"! I remember watching "Ella Enchanted" years ago, and crying desperately when she told her best friend she didn't want to be her friend anymore, and then bawled when she dropped the knife in the room of mirrors. I watched it again a few years ago, and realized, "My God. My life was like that." Of course, not living in some enchanted kingdom with a 'wicked stepmother' but feeling as though suggestions were commands, and just doing what others wanted, due to an overwhelming sense of duty / obligation to others, while ignoring my own needs, that I didn't even know I had. My 'needs' were to make sure everyone else was okay. This video looks like it's from the 1980s/90s...I didn't come to my own realizations about my upbringing until 2010 and later....and the fact that I'm still here, watching these, learning, tells me I still have some healing to do after 13+ years. God bless all those coming to an awakening, learning, hurting, crying, raging, and healing, and all those who help, like Mr. Bradshaw. You / we bring light into the darkness, but the darkness cannot comprehend it.

All it takes is the willingness to face your unsolved issues which will hurt but on the other side is your higher consciousness which will make you feel amazing

school systems in the US are completely dysfunctional and lend no love or compassion to children (at any stage). Corruption and abuse are where we place our precious children.

Once I was so happy to report to my grandma that I made a 96. She hit me with, "you could have made a 100." I graduated high school early, on purpose, with lots of hard work & no one came. No gifts, cards or balloons like everyone else.. went to Burger King with "friends" from another school afterwards. So happy to be healing. Was 25 & was asked why did I want to move.

What I have observed is that EVEN when you are fully healed from the parental oppression and abuse in toddlerhood , OR you were never oppressed or abused in toddlerhood, there are SO MANY codependent and controlling and manipulative and angry dysfunctional people in society that TREAT YOU as though you SHOULD BEHAVE JUST LIKE THEM and act in dysfunctional ways, or they won't see you as normal , normal like them. What a sickness , a "psychological virus", SO MANY people have and try to pass on as "the norm".

JB isn't telling you the Teachers have a Shame based childhood too. They have been known to Shame students for not measuring up to the level of the other's. I have been following JB for about 40 years. I see Shame based childhood in people everyday. My favorite phrase for some adults are "Kids in Adult Clothing" acting out a broken childhood!

I will not leave you no matter what. Your needs are ok with me. I am prepared to take care of you. I'm glad you're a girl/boy. I love you just the way you are. You will have all the time you need to get your needs met. You can rely on me. I am here to guide and support you in the best way I can" I added a couple. Those affirmations need to be placed all over ever labour ward and home to remember the responsibility of parenthood

Never have I come across anyone who has stated what I learnt quickly. Infant school was beautiful..creative with lots of loving playmates. As soon as I got to Junior School I became quickly aware of Class distinction, Racism ( I was mistakenly regarded as being Oriental) bullied unmercilessly, not just from children ... teachers could also be tyrants. How can any child concentrate on schoolwork when you'd dread going "Home" and finding your Mother dead.
