This is definitely one of the best plane spotting videos I've ever seen. An absolute pleasure to watch (glad I wasn't on a single one of those flights lol)
Japan Air 11 really struggled there, his poor pax! Any tourists on board would have felt like after 3 go around's they'd seen enough of the city and were ready to go back home.
Yes they are.. i’m in JAL before, landing in narita and the crosswind very severe.. they still land it tho.. i knew because on my mirror i can see the runway
Actually much portion of air busan pilots were Korean Air Force (fighter pilots). After retire of their duty, the old pilots usually get position at low cost airline as captains. I mean they don’t care about fuel. I know they are just annoyed to digest several flight at same maneuver in single day as their flight schedule is very routine and tight lol. it is true. My friend is co pilot at air busan and he always scared captain’s wild driving which is like sortie lol
An excellent training video. It was interesting to note which pilots followed the Windshear Escape Manoeuvre correctly. Also, massive respect to the pilots for not ‘pushing on with a bad approach’. Having the professional competence to assess even during the flare that it is not safe to continue the landing, and go around, shows piloting at its highest standard. Thank you for an excellent video.
Mosad Rahman In this case it’s the luck of the wind draw, That Air Canada Capt had his Carrier cert while flying F-18s on liaison with US Navy. He learned from the best!
What an amazing video. Crystal clear image! And that wing flexing, especially in the 787s? That's just unbelievable. Kudos to the fellas who actually managed to get their machines down!
Overheard in the cockpit ;" Garry, I think you can handle this landing." "Why thanks Joe but your the senior pilot here I think you should land the plane." "No Garry I insist, you can land this baby." "Thanks but no thanks Joe."
Years ago coming back around midnight from Orlando, FL into Sacramento with wife in the middle, son window seat and me the aisle, due to fog, we went around 3 times and my wife grabbed our hands and started praying. I never saw her pray before. On the flight deck sounded like to young pilots
Fantastic video! Those planes are getting tossed around quite a bit, and the side slip is nicely visible from your shot angle. Great job, Lou! What stood out -- as a retired airline pilot -- is how some of these crews seemed to leave the gear down way too long. Our go-around callouts were "Set go-around power, spoilers in, flaps 8, positive rate, gear up". The flaps and gear would be in transit within about 10 seconds of the initiation of the go-around. Some of these guys seemed to slack a bit on procedural discipline, or else their company procedures are substantially different (which is tough to believe). A couple of approaches struck me as particularly dangerous: ANA (2:20) seemed to make the decision a bit late, likely bleeding off some airspeed so close to the ground and nearly porpoising the aircraft.... then, they never raised the gear -- probably a bit shaken up! And Air Canada (4:50), while they did salvage the landing attempt, were probably in a near-stalled condition after the bounce, with very little energy to spare. Tough to know what their airspeed was, how much runway remained, and whether they had the engines adequately spooled to safely tame the bounce but it appears that they, as well, should have gone around. A go-around -- at the same airport under very similar weather conditions -- filmed by me from a passenger seat. Great if you like the groan of the GE90-110b... ruclips.net/video/3UzD62Q47Sg/видео.html /M
Thanks so much. I currently fly the 747. It's standard practice for us to leave the gear down on a windshear event. I believe it's a standard Boeing and Airbus procedure. No configuration changes. So the go arounds with the gear down must be windshear events.Yeah, a few crazy ones.....especially that ANA at 2:20. Thanks for taking the time to watch and especially comment. I hope to make a few more flying videos soon.
LouB747 that's right about the windshear with no configuration changes... I forgot... I wasn't considering that. I can't remember: is the windshear alert system inhibited during the flare? You're lucky to still get your hands on the 747. I took a flight on a Delta bird about a year before they retired those things.
Honestly, I can't tell you if it's active in the flare. I only ever had it go off once, in a 747-200, at around 1000 feet. I'm not a retired airline pilot, but I'm pretty sure that it's because of windshear warning. As far as I remember (from a youtube instruction video) you're not supposed to do anything but keep the airplane in the air in case of windshear. It's not normal that through so many different airlines they all do the same "mistake" which noone usually does. so it should be normal procedure.

Air Busan REALLY wanted to put that plane down! No time for bullshit, throw caution to the wind. But I’m sure there were some soiled pants on that aircraft!
Each missed approach adds a good 45 minutes to your flight time, which is a real pain in the derrière. Having experienced a double missed approach to Narita during a typhoon and diversion to Osaka after the third failed attempt, I can say it’s a very scary feeling, like riding an out of control roller coaster.
I flew into Narita from San Diego on April 11 of this year. Our 787 did a go around as well. It wasn't that bad during the descend, but as we get close to the runway, you can feel that the wind is keeping us from making a touchdown, kind of like the ANA 787 at 2:30. The pilots were great.
The amount of focus ATC workers have is unbelievable... I can’t even imagine the stress and chaos on a day like this and they’re just calm and taking it in stride 😳 I used to be a medic in a big city and I STILL can’t fathom the stress
As a passenger having landed and taken off from this airport, it’s the only time I’m nervous wondering “what are the crosswinds going to be like today...” never was nervous flying until coming to this airport. Yeah, I hear you about the one at 1:32. It's easy to make a judgement without being in the cockpit. A lot of these planes were on the second and even third approaches, after holding as well. Not sure of their fuel situations. Haneda, the typical alternate, was just as windy, although it's typically down the runway over there. But yeah, I hear you.

For some reason, I just knew Air Canada would be going for the gold! 😆 What great plane spotting though. The flex in those wings are incredible to watch!
Dannnnnng....that Air Butan was in the next zip code by the time he got those tires down. LOL Wow. The ANA to follow Butan was very sketchy too. He thought better and went around a couple times at least. JAL wussed out completely and went around before we even saw the runway. I think Korean Air did as well. Air Canada did the same thing as Butan at around 5:00. Heck, even the Korean 747 Cargo wussed out. Must be some crazy winds for sure. Annnnnnd, Japan Airlines around again for another sight-seeing tour. Wind shear is no joke though. I don't doubt the abilities of these pilots at all. Been there, done that. Better safe than sorry. Great video!! Rumor has it that the Japan Airlines plane is STILL circling the airport.
Interesting tidbit, for all of the ones that keep their landing gear down for longer than usual, they went around because they got a cockpit GPWS windshear alert, which is a mandatory go around + windshear escape maneuver, which dictates you can't change configuration until you're clear of windshear (so no landing gear up, flaps retract, etc).
I thought the 747 was gonna land. Knew the Canadian would land. That jet looked determined to land. Great video. Good job and nice to add sound. Go around now has a different meaning for me. I look up. Been in one go around in Atlanta. The jet before didn’t clear the runway. We went back tom15,000 and got in line. I was late to my interview. I got a note from the pilot explaining my tardiness
Good pilot skills all round. Good thing those wings are made to flex like that - the pax looking out the window would have been getting an eye full. Some of these go-arounds remind me of the time, three years back, when my son-in-law took me flying in his Piper Tripacer in Montana and let me do the takeoff (I'm not a pilot, by the way). My 6-year-old grandson was in the back seat and after we landed, my wife asked him, "Did Dad let Granddad do some flying?" "Uh huh." "What was he like?" "He drives like a maniac!"
this video could also be entitled "why international airline pilots are paid so much". stick and rudder skills are one thing, but judgement, maturity, and decisiveness to go around with these jets are another thing. great video and great pilots all making tough but correct decisions
The ATC could have just skipped the "Clear to land" and instead directly said : "missapproach, maintain 4000" -would ve been easier for everyone involved
Man how many go arounds in these conditions! Got to have limit on fuel it must really amp up pilot frustration, nerves and not to mention passenger nerves! The few I saw that did get down looked hairy and scary as hell ! I thought they were going to go off runway at times! Thanks for the videos! Fun to watch.
It's my pleasure to share the experience. The flights that came a long distance to Tokyo have less options as their fuel is typically lower on arrival. A handful for the pilots on this day for sure!
Great video! It is awesome to see how windshear affects large commercial airliners landing. It is quite obvious that it creates a dangerous condition for landing aircraft. You hear a lot about it but until you actually see it you can not comprehend the severity!
Heck try to land in it. Airspeed goes from 170 to nothing in a second. That’s why there are dents in the upper quadrant of the throttles from slamming them forward when that happens. This is really bad though, high crosswind component with wind shear, ultimate test of not only the crew but the airframe as well.
i used to fly cessna 172's from toronto island airport. one day while landing and gush of wind tossed my plane uncontrollably. i couldnt figure out why. after i regained control of the aircraft the atc then came on and LOOK OUT FOR THE WAKE TURBULENCE FROM THE DASH-8 THAT JUST LANDED...

Awesome. I have quite a few flying videos on my channel. Crosswinds, air to air stuff. There’s a “Flying” playlist
Wow those planes are like toys in the wind. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks. It’s my pleasure.
Wanderfull video, congratulations, my country is Colombia, here dont extreme winds, in japan very extreme winds, crazy winds, very hard winds.
Have a good day my friend
Thank you so much. I've flown into Cali, Columbia a few times, but that was 20 years ago! Yeah, Japan gets some extreme winds from time to time.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Have a great day!
Great job man, is just amazing when you get a chance to see the Pilots dealing with severe X - Wind, love it brother great camera work
Thanks so much! Here's a cockpit view of a day like that. Same airport....

Professional quality video. Thanks VERY much for sharing...
Thank you. It's my pleasure to share.
For some reason, I just knew Air Canada would be going for the gold! 😆 What great plane spotting though. The flex in those wings are incredible to watch!
Thanks. Yeah, love the wing flex too.
When the ANA crew and the Japan crew finally got on the ground no doubt they were presented Hari kiri sets.
Good news everyone, Japan airlines just landed
Lmfao
What day?
Spizz Energi it’s not 2022 yet?
Where?
No, they still up there.
Some mad skillz right there.
Yeah, hands full for sure.
LouB747 that air busan a321, master level landing!
Gotta admire a Pilot that'll do a go around! Respect
Pretty brave! That JAL wingtips were FLAPPING
Amazing video buddy, very nice work!
Thanks so much. Appreciated
A great day for pictures, not so great a day for pilots.
Yeah, I hear ya.
Thanks so much. One of the most common causes of go arounds is an airplane still on the runway.
My 6-year-old grandson was in the back seat and after we landed, my wife asked him, "Did Dad let Granddad do some flying?"
"Uh huh."
"What was he like?"
"He drives like a maniac!"
Narita is changing it's airport code to GORND
Wow amazing footage! , Just imagine being a passenger,....
Yeah, definitely.
A proud Canadian moment.
Really? Did they have fuel emergency or something? Otherwise, it was plain irresponsible
this video could also be entitled "why international airline pilots are paid so much". stick and rudder skills are one thing, but judgement, maturity, and decisiveness to go around with these jets are another thing. great video and great pilots all making tough but correct decisions
Yeah, it’s tough to go, but sometimes it’s the right thing to do.
Some incredible skills these pilots keeping the plane stable with such insane winds. 😮
The ATC could have just skipped the "Clear to land" and instead directly said : "missapproach, maintain 4000" -would ve been easier for everyone involved
Definitely!
Absolutely fantastic footage!!
Thanks so much
Air Canada had some beer waiting!!
Great presentation style and demeanor - straight, factual, gimmick-free. Cool content. Well done and much appreciated.
I thank you very much for these shots , I enjoyed it extremely , and I appreciate your time and effort to please us with it , thanks a lot.
It’s my pleasure. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll try and put out a few more flying videos in the near future. Thanks again.
LouB747
Thanks , god bless you .
This was a very satisfying video to watch, thanks for uploading it!
Thank you. It's my pleasure to share the experience.
This made me realize how competent pilots are
Got to earn the pay on a day like this.
2:05
Co-pilot: Dude, we only had 2 more feet to go!
Pilot: Put the gear up.
Co-pilot: Dude...
SiriusGD I know! They were so close. I was thinking, “just throttle down, you’re good,” and that’s right when they started going back up..
Thank you! You might like this. Same airport, different view.... ruclips.net/video/A_j3DHeP--E/видео.html
Heck try to land in it. Airspeed goes from 170 to nothing in a second. That’s why there are dents in the upper quadrant of the throttles from slamming them forward when that happens. This is really bad though, high crosswind component with wind shear, ultimate test of not only the crew but the airframe as well.
The fact that that Air Busan landed instead of going around blows my mind considering he bounced off the runway twice.
I hear that
Air Canada: " Its windy Captain ". "meh...hold my beer ".
tmw when you want likes so you take someone's top comment and change the wording so it doesn't look like you're copying it.
에어부산이 짱이네 ㅋㅋㅋ
c-130-h 출신인듯 ㅋㅋ
Favorite is that Korean Air 330 near the end. Great sound.
Yeah, it does sound great.
Great vid !!! Some of those approaches before TOGA were scary!!
Thanks so much. Yeah, NRT gets some crazy shear on SW winds.
"It would sure be nice to fly this plane again..."
"If it doesn't look right, give it one more try....."
04:23
Air Canada : Twr, we have suspended over rwy!
Twr : Will you going around?
AirCanada : Tell my parking stand please, we are on taxi.
Canadians: "The boys always get it in"
Got some stones to put her down 1st time in!
😄🍁
Never seen so many go rounds! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, it was a crazy day. It's my pleasure to share the experience.
This is comedy gold! Lol what a day for ATC and pilots.
That’s a busy 4000ft right now 😂
Yeah, one of those days! Lots of holding!
Wow. Incredible video
Yeah, some crazy approaches for sure!
i used to fly cessna 172's from toronto island airport. one day while landing and gush of wind tossed my plane uncontrollably. i couldnt figure out why. after i regained control of the aircraft the atc then came on and LOOK OUT FOR THE WAKE TURBULENCE FROM THE DASH-8 THAT JUST LANDED...
Yeah, wake turbulence is no joke. I fly small planes too. At work, I fly a 747, so we really don't have to worry or even think about it.
Kennedy Steve: Emirates 206 Super follow that cessna 172, CAUTION prop wash 🤣🤣🤣🤣
paul vindal I would love to hear that some day.
Landed there a few times.. One of those I thought we were gonna roll right off the runway into lake On. 😨
I only saw 2 landings and certainly a lot of go-arounds.
Yeah, one of those days!
In Narita, the government forced the construction, which had been regarded as a problem from the beginning.
Even now, tornado warnings are often issued to residents in this part of Japan.
That was so awesome to watch, thanks for sharing! Huge kudos for ATC audio!!!
Thanks. It's my pleasure to share. Yeah, ATC adds to the experience for sure.
