Lou...thanks for posting some great landing footage on a very windy day.....I remember when I was a youngster my father would park on a road just outside of O'Hare airport ...... we would watch the planes on final for touchdown at about 50 feet directly over our heads...... much respect to the men and woman pilots and their skill levels......
Just wow! That cargo jet at about 8 minutes in (from Alaska) took a wild langing. Always amazed at what the landing gear and wheels can take on contacting the ground. Can't even imagine the forces involved.
I've only flown light GA aircraft, but it's really cool to watch the crosswind lessons I learned happening, and on such massive aircraft! Hats off to you heavy metal folks. Some damned nice flying... and a few not so nice... but as they say, if you walk away it's a good landing. If the plan walks away, it's a great one.
the 767 went REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
It cannot get better than this. Nice spotting with all the tech now available (good cameras, real time info about trafic, busy place with challenging conditions etc.) I always scrutinize surface deflections and power adjustments on these landing videos. And of course the touchdown but I understand this is more about good luck (or lack thereof) than anything else. Loved your intro BTW, quite funny about the hair gel :-) Keep up the good work. I'm happy to see pilots interested in spotting as well, not that many I think.
Those landings were silky smooth compared to the 'crash' landing of our United 747 at Narita about 10 years ago in similarly horrible crosswind conditions. Short final was like a wild amusement park ride. The pilot was clearly on the edge fighting for control. Once past the threshhold he literally slammed the bucking and yawing jumbo jet onto the runway. The impact was immense with tires squealing from the misaligned touchdown. I gotta admit I thought we were done as the too-fast bird violently bounced back into the air, still yawing wildly. Rinse and repeat a few more times then the pilot apparently snagged the last 'carrier deck wire' and abruptly slammed on the brakes. I'm sure he had to change his shorts after that one... as did many of the passengers, myself included. Looking back, I don't know if that was a truly skilled pilot who saved the day or just a semi-competent moron who nearly made worldwide headline news. I'm leaning towards the latter as the idiot should have done a go-around during the worsening bucking bronco short final. And those were the days when United was still a respected airline.
Thanks so much. This is an older video. I'll try and put up something a little better. You might like this one..... ruclips.net/video/_AW--9_F6OU/видео.html
Wow LouB747...it’s amazing to watch the skill of these pilots navigate that cross wind....I watched your other video of the planes having to perform go around because of wind shear and it made my hands really sweaty just watching it. I can’t imagine what it must be like trying to land these massive 747’s and 380’s with all that wind...such beautiful aircraft from multiple 787’s to 747’s to 777’s to airbus a340-600, a 330 and airbus a221 etc...amazing stuff. My friend u have an amazing life! Doc david
Thank you. It's my pleasure to share. Most of my youtube channel is about finding snakes, but I do occasionally add a flying video. Another one should be up soon.
I flew a lot in my life but I will never forget landing at Narita! About 20 min on decent On 767 BNE to Narita... Turbulence was so bad I thought we were all gonna die 🤪🤪🤪😅
It's always much more interesting for me to hear things explained from the point of view of a pilot who actually does the things he's showing in his clips...Thanks for these!! Very good stuff! I used to work at this airport, so it's kinda special for me. Cheers! BTW Lou, I don't know if you're a long-timer flying into Narita but if you are, you might be one of the few who remembers "The Trailer" (the tiny trailer bar in front of the ANA hotel) which was a very notorious watering hole for pilots and crew back in the day (90's)....Me and a lot of the foreigners who lived in Narita back then used to drink there quite a bit. Met lots of characters there....Amazed that some pilots would get hammered there and still fly lol
There are no "typhoon" strength crosswinds in this or any other video because to be considered a typhoon (or a hurricane) a storm must possess sustained winds of at least 75mph which is considerably higher that the allowable crosswind component of any aircraft flying today. There is some excellent flying in this video but none of it is in crosswinds of typhoon strength. Before anybody asks, YES I am a pilot.
Excellent footage...!!! I'll be flying into Narita for my 2 week bucket list trip on a JAL 787-9. I have heard that Narita is NOTORIOUS for heavy cross wind landings. But i also noticed even in this wind the 777's and 787's weren't having many issues and there landing were rather smoother. Then say the 767 and A330's that were bouncing around a lot more. I'm no expert in aviation just love plane spotting and my theory is the wind had a hard time overtaking the power of the 777 and 787 larger engines. Correct me if i'm wrong on that but that's just my theory. Most of the 747's didn't have any issues either but they were naturally heavier being freighter planes which i would think helps in putting them down easier. God willing my JAL 787-9 will land smoothly...LOL
Thanks so much. It's only really bad when the winds blow out of the SW. That's typically spring. You might want (or not want) to watch this one.... ruclips.net/video/_AW--9_F6OU/видео.html
Thanks! Without watching the video again, I'm not sure. I use Aeroweather for the local weather and FlightRadar24 for incoming. You might like this video I put out... ruclips.net/video/_AW--9_F6OU/видео.html
Hey Lou, brilliant footage & work. A question for you. Is it just me, or are the engines on the 747-8 bunched closer together? Or is it an optical allusion, given the new & different wing design over the older generation 747s? Keep up the great work!!
Thank you. I'll have to take a look. I know on models of the 747-8, the engines seem a bit off. The -8 does have a longer span, so that could make them look bunched together.....
Being a pilot yourself, what does it feel like observing other pilots approaching to land? Do you go through the landing process in your mind yourself as you watch?
Interesting question. It's hard to judge without being in the cockpit, so I just enjoy the view. I do probably watch the aileron and elevator movements more than most people would. The power changes too. Going around is always a safe option, that said, after a long flight with minimal fuel, it's not always that easy. Your alternate airport is probably just as windy. Narita is one of the wildest approaches with a strong SW wind.
I've found myself being particularly interested in watching the rudder movements along with the elevator movements. It's really neat to watch the techniques used to deal with that crosswind.
Hi Lou, that's some great footage. I noticed there is a lot of NCA 747's it looks like they are 747 200's. If I'm not mistaken don't you fly for NCA? But you fly a 747 8 isn't that correct?
I’d have to rewatch it, but I don’t believe there are any 200s in this video. Most likely 8s. Yeah, all 8s at NCA now. Flew our last 400 to the desert about 6 months ago.
Just curious but what if the plane fails to land on its 2nd time round....Do they just keep turning round and trying again and again, who makes the decision to go to another airport?
LouB747 Thankyou Lou, I’m a terrible flyer, heart beats like crazy throughout the entire flight, can’t relax until we’ve touched down, so little titbits Of information like this just help me a little bit.
I love how you put the Flightradar24 info on for every landing. Something other channels don’t do. 👍🏼
Thanks. I don’t put out enough airplane videos. Maybe I’ll put a few more up.
Agreed That's really helpful. Look forward to more.
Man, that's some serious wind when even the 74's and trip 7's get bounced around like that. Great footage!
Thanks. I have another video with lots of go arounds, with similar if not better action.

8:12 Captain to F/O “well at least we are down, we’ll go back for the port engine later”!
great vid, the wing flex on those 787s is pretty crazy!
Thanks so much. Yeah, 78s do flex a lot.
the 767 went REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Good times.
LouB747 it’s music to my ears or anyone’s ears to be honest
Best crosswind landing video I've seen in awhile. Awesome job!!
Thanks! You might like this one I made, but there aren't many that actually land...

8:20 was a bit of a trouser changer ... ;)
Great video, thank you for sharing.

I don't get how planes rated for 30+ knts at certification are able to land in cross wind to looks more like 70 km +.
If it's more than 30 cross in the 74, we don't land.
awesome footage, thanks for sharing Lou!
Thanks. It's my pleasure

Absolutely love your channel Lou. And thanks for putting the flight and aircraft info on the left.
Thanks so much. Mostly about finding snakes, my passion. But I do put up flying videos....when I see something cool. Thanks for the support!
Some awesome landings...great pilot skills applause 😊

4:05 I was sure he was gonna go for second round he landed like mid run away 😱

Here's what it looks like up front in a 747 during gusty conditions. This approach was a handful.
LouB747 ? Nothing came thru.....

Nippon Cargo 00:02:30 an Tube UFO pass by very fast (can see it like impact left turbina)
Yeah, it's just a plane on downwind at 6000 feet. Looks strange though.
Watching those plane real impressed.🤔..✈️✈️✈️✈️
Good times.
Another great video 💯🙂
Thanks so much.
i have watched a few of these videos where they are comming in to land in a bad storm and you can see other planes stacking up behind the one landing.

Sooner or later i’m gonna have to put myself in a box and get shipped somewhere. It will be the only way to get a ride on a 747.
Yeah, not many passenger birds left flying these days.
Aeromexico was a little bouncy!
I like this format with the flight data
Thanks. Older video. I should have added ATC audio
Ana finally landed yeah !! No more go-around !!

Yeah, training wheels. I believe all the 340s have them. Good eye.

what would you do on this occasion 😃?
The weather was acceptable to land.
Hi, Love the iPhone Wallpaper and The Landing
Thanks. Hopefully some more windy days coming.
The 787 Dreamliner seems to really do well in these conditions. Weird for a medium sized jet.
Yo thats because the wings flex, serving as a sort of shock absorber
@@alexandermiller5034 It is pretty wild, all the videos from passengers inside. The wing flex is amazing. She almost flaps her way down to the ground.
Wow, it is awfully light out for being so EARLY in the morning!
Yeah, sunrise in the summer is around 4:30am. Crazy
Man a live! Even here in Seattle in the height of Summer, the sun doesn't get up until around ... 5:30AM
Yeah, it's strange. First light around 4am. Sun up at 4:30. I fly there often and am on USA west coast time, so I'm always up to see it.
Huh! Cool!
Japan doesn't use DST/Summer time like in Europe and North America so sunrise can be as early as 4:30AM
Awesome! What Apps is that you're using for the weather?
Jimmy Vu thanks. The weather app is AeroWeather. It pulls the current METAR and TAF from whatever airports you select. Real aviation weather.
Thanks Lou!...BTW..It's Vietnam "Airlines" 300 in the descriptions... :)
Thanks! Fixed.

I love how quite the 787 is compare to all of them!
Yeah, super quiet. Nice looking planes.
But the Trents make a funny noise. Easily recognizable
beautiful video, can you pelase suggest me a video camera to buy?

Thanks so much.
Just curious but what if the plane fails to land on its 2nd time round....Do they just keep turning round and trying again and again, who makes the decision to go to another airport?
The Captain makes the decision based on weather, fuel load, etc. Usually it's 2 tries and then on to the alternate airport.
LouB747 Thankyou Lou, I’m a terrible flyer, heart beats like crazy throughout the entire flight, can’t relax until we’ve touched down, so little titbits Of information like this just help me a little bit.
Yeah, nothing to worry about. Safest travel out there...
Lou, when did you start to fly? Were you in the service? I keep switching from flying to snakes. Pat from Pa.
I’ve been flying since 16, the airlines since 21. I’m 53 now. All civilian, no military. Yeah, the snake / flying is a strange mix.
Heavy gusts almost 50 meters touch down.
Do you use a separate app to "decode" METAR info? If so, what is it? TIA.
