Gareth Southgate was not a great manager for England. The fact that he hasn’t won a single major championship with the quality he has on that team speaks volumes. It’s not even that they haven’t won anything, they’ve underperformed at these tournaments too. He did a great job of building a good environment for the players and restoring some hope for the team, but let’s be honest he only got as far as he did because of moments of individual brilliance. In fact, he depends on those moments. His system doesn’t work, never has and never will. It has to change and I’m over the moon he stepped down.
He is not overrated this is a gentleman who was introduced to a new role in Madrid and did deliver . He makes all the runs, makes incredible tackles , does both offensive and defensive work superbly.
