@@ErininCopenhagen am I hearing it correctly? It sounds like you are pronouncing it "smarple". I have no knowledge of danish phonetics! Thanks for your video
Your pronunciation is extraordinary.....smørrebrød and remoulade... perfect..... one little thing though, since you asked for it..... Blasphemy..!! The dillmustard, with the salmon, goes on top of the fish not substitution for butter ;-).. apart from that, your platter looks really delicious, I would eat it, and not notice it was prepared by a foreigner....
You did well BUT why did you only add butter to the first sandwich? I must insist that you add butter to every single sandwich! Else it is not proper smørrebrød! :D
@@ErininCopenhagen Add a thin layer of salted Lurpak butter because everyone loves it. Think of it as the Danish maple syrup ;) Also, your body needs those fats and it makes the sandwich taste better! :D
@@_-martin-_ det var et godt forsøg, men det ændre nu ikke på, at jeg ikke bruger smør på mit rugbrød, det tilføjer ikke noget til min smags oplevelse af en god rundtenom.
Looks good, just like to add that Shrimp and Egg smørebrød also needs a healthy dose of pepper and salt to it. Impressed with the horseradish, that is something like Liquorice its an acquired taste :) For the Fiskefilet, you could easily add Shrimp and/or smoked salmon (now that its out for the fridge any ways).
As a native Dane I rate your smørrebrød 10/10 (Only thing I would never do is replace the remoulade with mayo - but that's more a matter of taste). I have to try the salmon version with avocadoes on top :) The dild (dill) dressing _is_ essential with smoked salmon, imo. Also on white bread.
I have been living in DK for 8 years, and have still no idea how to make smørrebrød. The biggest struggle is, what to combine with what? That´s not as easy as it looks like, haha, at least for me. Anyway, watching this video, because I am having some danish guests, and we are having some quick lunch, obviously smørrebrød, so now I know what to put on my shopping list :D thank you!
you decide what to put on just remember butter goes on all the smørrebrød first, then you can put anything could be chicken, fish, meatballs, roastbeef from last nights dinner, use mayo or other sauces you like, remulade is good with fish filet , mayo is good with shrimps and egg , you can also use tuna salad(mousse) cheese (although I prefer cheese on white bread) avocado goes well with fish and chicken or potato
Like others mentioned - well presented. Next up a Stjerneskud. My all time favorite. I buy one from Meny almost every week. It's a whole meal in itself. I made this one up, many years ago: Butter, salatblad, 1 slice of hamburgerryg pålæg, a few slices of Leverpostej, topped with slices of radiser.
Ohh that's one I've eaten before but never knew the name of - thanks for teaching me! 😂 I didn't know some of the supermarkets sold whole smørrebrød pieces like that here. Are they good quality??
@@ErininCopenhagen The quality in the Meny stores are very good. They have their own Butchers in each store, I believe. At least here in Horsens. They have two Stjerneskud - a normal version at 39,-, and a luxury version at 79,-. Just don't buy the ones made the day before. They are on sale, and for a reason. The bottom fish is wet from the shrimps etc. and they are just not delicious. Meny has all kinds of toppings for Smørrebrød at the butcher desk and also to-go smørrebrød, but they are not cheap. One sb is something like DKK 25,-.
These are some nice pieces of open sandwiches for everyday use. A little more luxury and you put so much cold cuts on it that it covers the whole loaf. So you must not be able to see the bread. Example with salami I would put four slices of it and then build it up from there.
Totally agree! 😄 It just can be quite hard to find remoulade in other countries so mayo would have to do in that case! Signed, A Die Hard Remoulade Fan 😝
I give you 9 out of 10. If you want a 10 you need to open a "smørrebrødsforretning" ;) What I miss is smørrebrød with "frikadeller" or "ribbenssteg". Or smørrebrød with canned "torskerogn". Others have mentioned "Stjerneskud" wich were invented by Ida Davidsen to celebrate Yuri Gagarins visit to Denmark years ago.
Oh wow, can't get better than that 😁 Thank you! Also I had no idea that certain smørrebrød were invented for certain people - I'd never heard that story about Yuri Gagarin before, thanks so much for sharing that! I wonder what I'd want my Smørrebrød to be.. 🤔
As a dane i rate your smørebrød 7 out of 10 and hov it looks 8,5 out of 10 👍🙂 The everyday "smørebrød" is called håndmad, rugbrødsmad or as most danes would say just rugbrød 😂
A solid 10 out of 10 in that aspect that fresh cold cuts, fresh homemade mayonnaise OR remoulade and in season things will increase the taste to the next fresh level, but thats not allways possible. My favorite smørrebrød in summer is "kartoffelmad" what is yours? What is your take on remoulade? Is it acquired taste? OR does it make sense? PS love your videos 😁
Ooh homemade remoulade, I gotta try that!! Well, I love remoulade so much that Danish people always make fun of how much I eat 😂 I figure: I was without it for the first half of my life or so, I gotta catch up!! It's delicious. I think my favorite summer smørrebrød is one with smoked salmon. Thanks so much for watching ❤️
We do. Especially, "højtbelagt smørrebrød" like the ones Erin made. They are way too difficult to eat without knife and fork. But a "håndmad" ... Well, the name says it 😉
no no no,, if u dont do have REMULADE ,, / u dont use mayo,, no NO NO .. WRONG/ thats is not Danish tradition mayo On roastbeef.. itll never happen for a real DANE ..
Your pronounciation is just as good as your presentation of smørrebrød. Amazing!!
Wow thank you so much, Stefan! The language is definitely still a work in progress 😅

To be honest, I hardly ever use butter or margarine on my smørebrød.

You are like a proffessional. I have one question, though: What is it we are supposed to do with the lemon slice? Anyone?
Aw thanks, Knud! Personally I squeeze it over the prawns but maybe that's a no-no by Danish standards? 🤭

you are forgetting the butter on the other 3, otherwise perfect!, most Danes prefer Salmon on white bread but you can use rye
