Maternity Healthcare: Denmark vs. UK - Which Country Offers Better Care?
In part two of my maternity comparison videos, I talk about what it's like to have a baby in both Copenhagen and London. Which is better? Which one has my midwife horror story? Where did I have my positive experience vs my negative one? Watch and find out!
Note: I didn't mention in this video but the London hospital I gave birth at was Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. In Denmark, as I say, it was Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen :)

ROUND TOWER COPENHAGEN: Everything You Need to Know
Jeg elsker Nørrebro! 😍
Nisser aren't evil and kids don't fear them lol - at worst, they're considered mischievous. And they live all over, not just in your house, so they absolutely also work with Santa Claus... And on farms, shoe cobblers, rigsarkivet, etc :D As for the belief in Santa, I feel like that varies from family to family... I don't recall ever being shocked that there was no Santa, but I wrote him letters when I was very little? My family gives presents "from Santa" as a way for the parents to like... give an extra gift, without giving "too many gifts" (so like I might get a gift from my parents, and then another gift "from Santa" that I implicitly know is from them) - I know other people where one of the adults will go hide, get into a santa costume, and knock on the door like "heey just making the rounds" while handing out gifts to any of the small children present, like just a 1 minute visit before leaving again, out of costume and like "heey, what did I miss? omg santa was here?!"
Hi. I checked your Instagram, but there are only 4 posts on it and those are 4-5 years old. Are you currently posting content anywhere? Thanks!
I wasn’t induced until 42 weeks with my first, in the U.S. Very interesting hearing about midwives being n both UK & Dennark. In the US, we typically have OB/GYNs (Obstetricians = pregnancy/delivery doctors , gynecologists = female care doctors). Midwives are usually only for home births. Do you have any videos about learning the Danish language & how it affects everyday life (for example, all your pregnancy info books and websites you have to navigate appear to be just in Danish)?
Do you have a video of the history of Bakken?
That's so interesting! I just started an Ancestry on husband. His family came in the mid-1800s and settled in California, then Texas. We've been to Solvang, and it's amazing! There was even a store named "Rasmussen." It would be cool to find out if any of his ancestors had a hand in building that town.
we bake Christmas cookies intend of DIY marcipan
My great grandpa emigrated from svendborg/tved in 1901. Ironically ended up in Iowa in a danish community
Well I'll say the food definitely looks good 🇩🇰👍
All I know is that originally my ancestry DNA 🧬 said I was 3% Norwegian, but later said I was 7% Danish - Denmark instead mainly because the two are very similar! I have no idea who it was I get my Scandinavian bloodline! I'm 14% German as my mom's mom's side is the Rupel family! I'm 60% English, 16% Scottish - Highlands to be more specific! 3% Irish! My last name is Pack! The other names of my family are Conley/Connelly, Sauls, Rupel! You let me know where I get it from!😂
we miss your videos... are you coming back or still thinking about it?
I Think most people get the story about Santa wrong. It started as a horror. That come Down eating people. And u would leave food and drink for him to skip you. So elf/nisser making Small stuff. But as Danish. Elf/nisser makes and help Santa. They the ones around to hear what the kids wants and then helps Santa create the items But it is still Santa that deliver it all. So Not much different than others believe.
As a Dane, I would say that traditions are different from family. We were allowed to open a gift or two after dinner, before the singing. I loved/love the singing. Being and singing with your grandparents, cousins, and siblings, when walking around the tree - the memories of that, not everyone being in tune is just sweet and funny.... Nisser/elves/gnomes, are only bad towards you if you don`t behave throughout the year, and don`t put rice porridge out for them to eat.... But that was mostly back when people lived and worked on farms. Today they are just sweet and Santas helpers
I think your husbond is pulling your leg ;) Nisser are not THAT evil. They make small praks
Christmas in Denmark the 24th, goes back to the Viking age and earlier, before clocks, no, at that time, before clocks, the new day started when it got dark... that way of marking the day was continued when Christianity came to Denmark. Like on the clock today (midnight)
It is, Englishman, lived in Jaegersburggade and Lundtoftegade for 6 years, loved it
I was never told that nisser was evil when I was a child.Fear of nisser belong hundreds years ago.
Visiting the blue planet when not knowing anything was a really suprising experience! The suprise rainforrest blew us away! Definitely worth a visit
In the middle ages, each city had an official landmark, which was a kind of symbol for the city. Copenhagen's was a mermaid. A statue placed in the water off the spot where the Black Diamond is now.
There are a lot of christmas traditions in Denmark. And they vary from region to region and even from family to family. Let me add a few to your list: We normally end the dancing around the christmas tree with singing "Nu er det jul igen" a rather high tempoed song with only one chorus (At least in our version) While we sing it we all dance round around in a long line holding hands all through the house. Very fun. Another christmas tradition in my family is gaveleg. This is something we do after we'd eaten but before we dance around the christmas tree. You have a pile of small cheap gifts (It can be almost anything), a rafle cup and a dice. And then we take turns rolling the dice. If you get a 6 you can take a present from the pile. When there are no more presents in the pile, the real fun begins. One of you sets a timer for 10 minutes or somthing like that (only the one who sets the timer knows what it was set at) Then you roll the dice again and every time you get a 6 you may steal a gift from one of the others. The one with the most gifts when the time is up, wins.
Vejrpigerne på Richshuset/The Weather Girls on the Richs building has been fixed and are now functioning again :D
Born in 53 we never talked about elves in my family and we knew from a very young age our family was responsible fof the presents. I can't recall I ever believed in Santa.
I have never learned that Nisser is mean/evil. They are teasing and playful. In the old days in the country side they lived all year on the farms and too care of the farm if you too care of the nisse. There are horror stories about them from old days, but its not what the kids are taught at all. Christmas markeds are fairly new to Denmark. I am 58 and as kids we didn't have them when i was a child. And nooo, not everyone watches Julekalenderen...i have always hated them
Hey I really appreciate this video thanks! Could never really understand why the whole family immigrated at once. Very informative. When they arrived they worked at a German company until they learned English. All the makes we’re skilled tool and die makers.
I know beter Canadian than your husband. xD I knew it was a hat, and double double being coffee. Well, just of all the Americanism I've consumed. xD
The ramen place is good also quite afordable prices as well, and i used play football in bk skjold fun to see the bakery!
Fun Fact - Scarlett Johansson also comes from the Danish Ancestry.
This is so hillarius, find something better to talk about .
is the attraction covered under Copenhagen card ?
Thank you! I visited this place this week and it was interesting!

I do believe the hat pin law is because it can be used as a weapon, just like a knife.

Thanks for making this one!!
As a native Dane I rate your smørrebrød 10/10 (Only thing I would never do is replace the remoulade with mayo - but that's more a matter of taste). I have to try the salmon version with avocadoes on top :) The dild (dill) dressing _is_ essential with smoked salmon, imo. Also on white bread.
Im sad that he didn’t serve stegt flæsk med persillesovs which is our national dish. Or smørrebrød, tarteletter or something other Classic danish. I am danish and have never had rygeost for example. I love your video though. You guys should check out contad molden though also. He is making comedy about danish culture as a foeringer like animals: It stinks - stinkdyr It’s lazy - dovendyr Like literal meanings like you say The word bjørnetjeneste could be used if i like gave Money to a drug addict and i knew before hand he would use it on drugs and not food. I wanted to do it for him to eat and instead i would be “feeding” his addiction. That would be an more Extreme example. It is basicly doing something out of kindness that ends up doing more harm than good.
If I was an english speaking tourist in Copenhagen, I would want someone like you to be my guide around the Historical Copenhagen......Ever thought of that..?? Anyway thank you for educating me on my own city ;-)
Thank you, once again again, for teaching me about my country and its history.... your videos are my favorites atm ;-)
I had a older brother with Downs Syndrome, who absolutely adored TinTin and one of the things he could was remember every dialogue ever written, in all the books, and this video just brought a pang to my heart as I didnt know.....thank you, for once again telling me stories about my own city, that I never knew....
Your pronunciation is extraordinary.....smørrebrød and remoulade... perfect..... one little thing though, since you asked for it..... Blasphemy..!! The dillmustard, with the salmon, goes on top of the fish not substitution for butter ;-).. apart from that, your platter looks really delicious, I would eat it, and not notice it was prepared by a foreigner....
My family is originally from Olfert Fischersgade and yet so much of this is new to me, thank you for bringing it to me... love your vids, I am learning so much about my birthplace and somehow feel ashamed that I dont know.... keep going.....
Cool little video of some of our curiosities... thank you
As a dane, born and bred, I have to say this was a great history vid, I knew some of it, but definitely not all, and have a "foreigner" teaching me is absolutely awesome.... now I have to go watch your other videos.... Thank you for caring....
as a child i lived in Danmark, i am half Danish, i remember the hotdog being a red long sausage in a open bun with mustard ketchup and dried onions, best thing ever!!!
My grandma Thomsen was first generation American. She was the 8th of ten children. Every one of these ten was successful in their profession.
if i could move to Denmark, number one reason why i would move, would be the Danish Hot Dog...
Respect the laws please.
