The normal working hours in Denmark is from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. And i think it's still 37 hours working hours pr week ...In the schools, it is between 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. We have a max hours pr week for each grades. :)
Most people get off work around 1 or 2 pm on fridays. That is why there were so many people in the gardens.
Most jobs have a 37 hour work-week, thanks to the strong Unions here, so its usually 8 hours monday to thursday and just 5 on friday.
Hey man. That was some really nice footage and comments about my country, I'm really happy you enjoyed it. And it was super fun seeing places I've seen during my life and hearing what you guys thought of them. Loved the quality and pacing too! Super cool vid!
Thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you'll stick around to see more 😊
Great food, good coffee, good biking culture, friendly people, shiny jewels, high milk drinkers and beer. Whats not to like?
Never forget to leave cookies out for Snoop!
So cool to see you enjoy some of my favorite places in CPH! 😊 You definitely lucked out with the weather, it was the perfect time to come 😀
The 400-year old Rosenborg wine is actually drunk traditionally each year at the Queen/King's official new year gala party.
Danmark have an amazing piknik culture, everyone brings a few meals and drinks and it's a party. Very nice.
Those holes in the walls at Rosenborg slot is a system of pipes that feeds down to a room in the celler where they would have a orchestra playing and the pipes would "deliver" the music to most rooms in the castle.
I really like your blogs! Torches!! You and Sav are having an amazing time in your lives. Thanks for sharing your travels.
Thanks for visiting our beautiful country. I am so happy you guys liked Rosenborg, it is the "Royal visit" all tourist should make i think. About salt on the French fries. I do agree that people should be able to put salt on their fries them self. But you DID meet a moderately salted portion of fries, we danes use more salt then most countries. When we go abroad we are always disappointed that fries are never salted :D
But to what i really had on my mind, Danish food. We have everything in Copenhagen. Easy street food, but also amazing high quality restaurants serving food from all over the globe. And most important, we have the "Best" restaurant in the world according to "Restaurant magazine". It have not placed this year as it is moving, but in '10, '11, '12 and '14 it was the absolutely best restaurant in the world. '13 it got a second place. Since the location have been a problem why it is moving thus have not gotten any grade this year (It got #3 in '15 and #5 in '16). Noma is two words combined, from NOrdisk MAd = Nordic food. They only serve food created by the absolutely best products you can find in Denmark.
Book in good time, but go there next time :)
BTW We actually have best Schwarma in the world and best burger in the world this year, together with Noma that should be enough to lure you back to Denmark again, yes? :D And the health employees DID get a payrise of 8% over 3 years and paid lunch breaks, the demonstration worked :D
Your "an extreme version of nice" used when describing your steak tartare made me laugh out loud. Great humor Matt.
Haha, thanks Tobiwan! 😅
I love seeing happy foreigners visiting Denmark - That means they met the right people on their danish journey and it makes me proud to be a Dane! :D
Great video. Btw. that weird sound you were hearing In Rosenborg was the old stereo system, that the king had built into the floor and walls. A band would be playing in the cellars and the sound would travel up throgh a system of pipes and play from tiny holes and cracks in the floor and walls. Pretty cool for a 16th century building.
I was told by one of the guides at Rosenborg that the king loved music, but hated musicians, and so he had this clever system installed with the musicians located out of view a couple of floors down and still enjoying the tunes ! True or not is not for me to say...
Sav is my spirit animal when she's tired. She has that, "Don't talk to me until I'm ready!" look on her face 😂
Never forget to leave cookies out for Snoop!
too bad that the Gasoline Grill was already closed! But it seems to be an awesome place! For real
2:14 the two ladies are not having it hahah
well most people in denmark work 37 hours a week from 8am to 4 pm, btw most civil servants in denmark got a 8% raise to be implementet over the next 3 years.
The 8% was because they didn't get enything when the financial crisis was over, while the rest did.
Yep. And the reason why he saw so many people flocking the streets that Friday afternoon is because most civil servants get off from work at around 1:30 pm on Fridays while private sector employees get off either around the same time or around 2:30 pm.
As a guest you can go to any of the hotels in that chain for the free wine hour. I stayed at SP34 in January. 👍🏾
The Gasoline Grill is as good as they say, and they have 2 locations, and are about to open another one in Vesterport St. (Close to your hotel). The trick is to check their instagram before going. They post a picture as soon as they sell out. If not, my other favourite burger place is in pusher street in Christiania. They are soo goooood. Wonder why that is? 😅💨
😂😉
yes, he needs to come back
the yellow thing is called remoulade. it is kind of a cucumber mayo.
That protest you ran into is definitely not something that happens everyday, it is one of the biggest conflicts in this tiny country, in a very long time 😉 But it's a very important cause, so lots of people are supporting it (the negotiations have been going on for months now).
The protest is dumb
@Patrick - Spoken like someone who's too young to understand the cause.
And yet it is so Danish.
Christian Nielsen
True, one of our main qualities is to complain xD
Am I the only Dane here screaming nooo it’s supposed to go in bottom first! At the bottle recycling thing??😂
Exactly! Always bottom first in bottle recycling machine we are not savages in this country we are living in a society!
Pretty fun to hear some of your commentaries about Denmark, Danish people and food :) The "problem" with the salt is prettyu normal. I know several people who put on salt even before tasting the food :D
"Never forget to leave cookies out for Snoop!". 😂💯💯
This was an awesome Food Vlog 💯💯
Thanks for all your videos. As a Dane, I really enjoy it!
Makes me happy to hear that! ❤️
"I walked home with a t-shirt...only.." anyone else concerned about Matt's lack of trousers??
😂
Luckily the police were busy with the demonstration else he might have been arrested for indecent exposure...
Well danish people use a lot more salt than other countries, and danish food is made for danish people to like.
Like I am living in Japan now and everything needs salt for me.. XD
Japan is pretty high on the statistical sodium intake index as other asian contries. Denmark are in the middle. Research never hurt anyone.
John Madsen i am talking about my experience, that Denmark use a lot more salt in their dishes than Japan. I always have to add salt here in japan. Ofc if you take noodles, specialfly the cupnoodles they are filled with salt, probably why they are high up there. But if you go out to eat (except noodles) that isn't the case.
And how is that statistic made? Because I find Danish people add a lot more salt to dishes after made, and Japanese people don't. Like an example, I asked for salt at a restaurant and they were like, eh? And then poured some salt on a big plate and brought it. Just a culture where people don't add salt after the food is made. Where in Denmark we add a lot after.
But that is beside the case really, I was just saying that Denmark probably uses more salt in their dishes and the country he is from, and therefore it is too salty for him but not Danish people. Or at least at some food he is not used to, like the fries we love a lot of salt.
@@Sjochumsen The japanese mostly add their salt via the Soy sauce.
I love in Denmark but have only been in Copenhagen 2 times
So lovely so see your experiences and even learn some more about the city 😁
Lagkagehus = lag (layer) kage (cake) hus (house). LayerCakeHouse. Soo many words origin from old norse/scandianvia. Imagine if vikings hadnt been socially agressive back then you wouldnt have no cake! :D
the royal family of Denmark drink the rosenborg wine when the queen has a banquet
Ørsted park is a part of the fortress ring. Back in the day Copenhagen was surrounded by a wall. Some of the old defences are still in view like the old moat and some of the walls
A later defensive ring was constructed further out up to the time of WW1. Most of this is now parks.
AAAAAARRRRRHHHHH!!! They are slaughtering pastry with knife and fork! :O 9:13
Sorry mate its easier to use your fingers, like the Danes do.
1st it was 1 og the most expansive bakery in Danmark, you did walk into, 2nd time you go to den mark try Southen Jylland if you line cakes. We have a something Southen Jylland is famous for , a cake table
Basically every country in europe has a rich history, some have even partially the same history from time to time, you know small countries, wars, dictators and so on;-)
Haha, I knowwww, but to be standing in a castle that's hundreds of years old, where they had the Kings clothes (also hundreds of years old) that he died in with the blood still on them, is nothing like I've ever seen before. There was just so MUCH stuff in there! I have no idea how they managed to preserve it all 🤷🏻♂️
Never forget to leave cookies out for Snoop! Your vlogs are the best!!!
Thanks Tammy!
finally up to date again. Belated Happy Birthday!
Now hold on, im quite sure that like 80% of your description of REM sleep was completly off bro. And secondly, yes, good weather is when you find all people outdoors here in scandinavia - we’ve survived another long dark cold sunless winter! Thank you for another lovely vlog!
Actually you're wrong, I think my description of R.E.M. sleep was about 90% off 😂 I just remember being told that R.E.M. sleep is the important sleep and I somehow made up my own explanation for it 😅 apologies for unintentionally spreading misinformation 🙊
sliceofmatt 😂😂
Whoa that castle and the swag, some hearty Danish stuff. I'm thinking that stuff was much later than the era depicted in Hamlet, no? Aw, no Gasoline Grill'd meats. I wonder if they just lit gasoline on fire and broiled the meat on that? Giving it a lead free type of vibe.
I'm so glad of these vlogs because your eye picks up such interesting things to look at, which I definitely feel as well, when I travel, a huge protest or parade can be going on, and things like a recycling machine will catch my attention. I like that. It's like a photo of a humming bird set in front of a Lion Taming Act. The simplest beauty amongst the spectacle. In a way, like the photo of the cyclist in front of the building. Well done, S.P.!
This is deep, I like it 😅
"Cheeky nude from the Queen" - I love it! It's fun to see my capital through someone else's perspective. And you both have agreeable personalities, thanks for not being a pain in the arse :*
😂 I think that's the first time I've been thanked for not being a pain in the arse 😂😂😂
Most youtube personalities makes me want to kill myself. You seem like decent folk, except for your dislike towards salte fisk...
The hole in the wall at Rosenborg Slot, I'm almost certain that it's not for shouting messages to other rooms, but for the sound of the musicians, in the basement, playing music for the king. So it's kind of a "radio". This is NOT a joke. you can look it up :)
you guys really need a danish guide
It looks so delicious! How do you decide what to get? So many choices!
My tactic is to find something that I like on the menu and if it's what I feel like at the time and I know it'll make my belly happy then I stop looking! Why concern yourself with what you're missing out on when you already have something you're happy with? 😉
Actually, that wine at 6:47 is not bad. I believe they had a similar batch served at the royal wedding a few years ago, believe it or not.
Never forget to leave cookies out for Snoop!
Wait what ..?
Lagkagehuset=[lau'ka:e hoo'set]
That on top of the fish is "homemade" remolade.
Hope you had a good trip here :)
Eyyy i was at that Lagkagehuset yesterday, small world :D Fun video, always interesting to see how other people review your own country :D Although Salte Fisk are the absolute best! ;)
Oversalted fries? Not in Denmark, we love salt.
More often they are undersalted in my experience
I love salt.
in Denmark most people her off around 2 a clock on fridag
Never forget to leave cookies out for Snoop!
Never forget Nathan!
Never forget to leave snoop out of cookies😃
😂🙈
Cheeky little vuvuzela. Lol
right when you said you where going to Gasolin Grill I thought to myself that there was no chance for you to get a burger in the evening :D
PS: The civil servants got a 8% raise and a half hour paid lunchbreak.
Actualy they got a 6% payraise over 3 years, with another 2% of the "cost of wages" to be used to help ALL low-income holders.......
And they already HAD the ½hour lunchbreak. ½hour that they are at work and have to both eat their lunch and do their jobs. But sure you just wait in the ER while we eat our "off the clock" lunch.....
"Lagekagehus" I'm just telling you. this is one of the most expensive and delicious in DK.
I snorted my Ben and Jerry's at 6:12 XD
how can you type ø
Was your frikadeller seasons to your like kind
Approx 1/10 of danes work as civil servants, so what you saw was a tiny portion of the protest xD
next time u should try Halifax burgerbar. i looove it ull not go hungry from there
I was like - you’re going to Gasoline Grill and it’s dark out 😳 forget about it. They sell out in 4-5 hours
Next time, try the real Denmark and not just Copenhagen
I would love to but we were being kindly hosted by Visit Copenhagen and not Visit Denmark so our stay was limited to the city 😊 beautiful nonetheless!
you got my favorite! :D "butterfried fish"
REM Rapid Eye Movement
u guys eat a lot in 1 day. im so jealous 😂
Haha, more so on holiday or when traveling!
What can I say, we Danes love our salt. ;)
Just discovered you. Enjoying the ride.😊
Going to a premium coffee shop, and then you order an ice latte? I am at lack for words, but I'm very offended.
Howsit Matt and Sav!👍
3,5 thousand people

We're a salty people, mate. We used to sail the seas, you know.
Look out on my Channel THIS week for how to say danish things😃👍🏼
I know the man that owns Gasoline Grill, because he´s a part of my fathers family . :)
someone add a !nice command to his twitch channel
Hahaha, I didn't actually see this before I editing today's vlog, but while I was editing it I was literally thinking of if there was a way to automate a "nice counter" for the vlog like one could hypothetically do on Twitch 😅 great minds!
hello i am danish and yes its good
I thought, you said, SHART into xD
Heeey im the red hair guy 😂
Welcome to Denmark i hope you had a plesent stay 😁
We did! It was amazing 😊

5:16 no, no you didn't :)
Great video, thanks...
Jeg er fra Kina XDDD
I was at that demo😂
I’m com from Denmark
Good thing you didnt go to the beach. People are naked there... And if its friday then people usually get off from work early. even on weekdays Danes usually work from 8 to 16. Plus students dont have classes that late and lots of these people seemed young
"only" 79 lol
So to explain the protest, they are protesting because they want to have paid break just like the people who work in the private sector, however every one in the private sector are calling them greedy, mostly because no one in the private sector have got paid break, nor are they under paid, only the people who works in the public sector thinks that they are underpaid, all tough they have better benefits, and hours, while anyone whom is in need of their service never get good service. So in short, the protest is dumb
spoken like someone clueless.......
Fun Fact of the Day: My uncle is the CEO of Torvehallerne in Horsens though!
hey
love yor´s vidios and if you are taking to denmark agin i can show you arund
65 % better than nothing is still nothing...
LIKE HVIS I ER FRA DANMARK!!👍🏻
(Jeg er)👻
One day I'll be first but until that day I shall be happy with the 27th person to to believe they can be first 😉
Copenhagen is the most non-danish city in denmark.
Ja og hurra for det :D
Some parts of it is...
C0000KIE 🙉
stop speaking nonsense. Copenhagen is Denmark. And so is the rest of Denmark. You're no better than me.
Ja
Im not first so ill watch this later lmao
Haha, oh no! You've found a workaround 😂
I cant tell if this is serious or just a plain joke.
91st!
