Nice review .. I got mine just yesterday .. it is amazing... also are you just new to streaming on youtube... I thought you were an youtuber until I looked to subscribe.. no worries .. I wish you reach a million subscribers soon.. .. me being your 472... good luck..
This is one good review! For example, you're the only one that mentions that the tilda key only accepts 3-pin switches. This is important info! Also your voice and manner of serving the content is really interesting. Waiting on my own k4 to arrive, this here helps ease the wait for a bit :)
Solid sounding after the mods! Potentially getting a Keychron board but wanting to get the UT4 switches. The pandas are pretty close in sound so this is a good comparison. Thanks!
Thanks so much, I just ordered the K4 and wanted to know what kind of modding I could do. Also, I was suprised to see a fellow Haligonian! I wish I saw that deal
video saved me from throwing out the foam, thanks! big fan of this keyboard, especially with the f-keys ortholinear to the number keys. fingers don't have to go on an adventure to find the f-keys every time anymore
Is still have my k4 its a beast!!!, I ended up getting a k10 for video editing, its full sized, My keyboard is also littered with artisan key caps lol. My k10 looks like a toy lmao, professionally its not bad looking its very functional for sure especially for adobe/ Premiere pro. Awesome video!!!!.
Nice! I just got a K2/V2 and I really like it. I've been using the Mac Magic Keyboard for so long so I'm still getting used to the K2's height. So far I'm happy with the Gateron brown switches but being that I have already one foot in the rabbit hole I expect that sooner rather than later I'll be wanting to do something similar to what you did for you K4. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! I do still switch back to the Magic Keyboard from time to time and it is QUITE the difference lol. Welcome to the rabbit hole of keyboards xD
Haligonians unite! Picked up the K4 V2 a week ago, Keeping the stock switches but plan on lubing them soon. I did order a new keycap set for it there, going for a neo pop/cyberpunk type them. Keeb looks rad!
Eyyy, bought the same version of the k4 (brown switches and aluminium body with RGB) and weirdly enough we even have the same mouse, will be trying out a few of your mods soon. :)
Subbed! Thanks for an awesome K4 mod video! Typing this with my K4! Definitely want to do foam mod and some sort of Panda switch. I did replace my K4 caps with PBT and already the sound was better!
Hey cass love your growing channel! Decided to go for a k4 v2 this morning as the hot swappables just got back in stock! Love your mods! Don’t know why I didn’t go down the rabbit hole sooner! I’m a radiologist and spend 12h a day typing reports on an apple keyboard (140-150 wpm)! Just hurts my wrist so bad after all those years! Don’t know why I didn’t go down the rabbit hole sooner!
@@redataoussi amazing! Feel free to join my discord server and share your build there once it's all done if you'd like :) And hey I wont say no to the views xD
@@just_kyashi hey!! Just received mine and started to mod it! Surprisingly the brown gateron were already lubed and the stabilisers as well! I only filled the case with 2mm noico audio dempening and foam, with a double layer tape behind the pcb! I also did the band aid mod and the results are superb! As it is my first ever key board I didn’t find useful to switch to put keycaps! Hard to find some in French iso! Keychron told me they’ll release a pack later this year for the keychron k4v2 so I’ll wait until then! Is there anyway I can send you a little video of my mods? Your opinion matter to me
Nice video! I just bought a Keychron K4 v2, and I was wondering what keycap sizes fit with the 96% layout(I am a total noobie). I'm a bit confused cuz you bought the full-size replaceable keycaps, but it somehow is still compatible with the keyboard.
Thanks so much! And honestly this was my first keyboard too. In terms of the size I did have to use some of the original keycaps that wouldn't fit from the full size kit.
I recently had to change a switch out and was wondering about mods. Forgot that I saw this video sometime in the last year. Did you get the K4G2 here? That's what I have. I think I threw away the box without realizing what the foam was for QQ. Anyway, when I had to change the switch I took apart the case and let me tell you... that cable did not want to come out for me either. I did the same thing and just left it.
Looks like the version 2 model. Though the only difference seems to be the placement of the delete key is moved over to above the backspace, and the feet have two heights.
I have this keyboard, but I am going another way. I use it in an office environment, so I am going to replace the stock Gateron Browns with something quieter but still tactile. What switch puller did you use? how hard was it to pull all the switches?
Nice! Definitely better to be quieter in an office. Although I would say something linear would be better for volume. I just used the included switch puller! It was definitely a bit difficult with the stock switch puller so recommend something sturdier
I just keep looking at that novation launchpad I needed to switch to mpc but starting to think ableton is just better for DAW users who arent using any hardware modules. I came here to figure out how to get better acoustics out of the keyboard but wound up looking at your music gear lol.
It's an Ableton Push 2 actually! And that being said Ableton is my main DAW and I LOVE IT :) If you ever have any questions about it feel free to ask - maybe I'll make a video on it some day 😁
@@just_kyashi Is it just a control surface or is it okay for fingerdrumming and stuff? A video on it would be good. And if you have any suggestions for smaller keyboard controllers, I have limited space, and have put a bunch in my Amazon cart and backed out. I dont know if I am going to stay away from fl, dont mind mpc software for drums but it seems limited as far as what you can do with synth's keys chords etc. Im sure you'd build up subs if you do a music gear / DAW segment.
@@havdaironman It's great for finger drumming! it's mainly what I use when I'm home but also have an Akai MPK Mini for travel which gives you the drum pads and keys but I honestly am not the biggest fan of the keys. I would also suggest the Native Instruments M32 for a smaller keyboard as well or the arturia mini lab
Ahhhh my K4 is arriving tomorrow! Did you ever run into any troubles with the battery/foam situation? That's probably the first thing I'll want to do and I definitely want to make sure I'm not gonna start a keyboard fire.
Nice! I have yet to have any issues but to be extra cautious I just wouldn't put foam over top of the battery so that it gets the proper heat distribution but around it is fine for sure!
@@just_kyashi Yes! I was gonna do exactly what you did plus probably a tape mod. But being new to the world of non gaming marketed mech keyboards. I gotta say even stock this sounds miles better than what I'm used to.
@@just_kyashi I wanted to come back and update on this. I ended up doing the same foam as you, along with three layers of tape on the PCB. Even just with the stock red switches this thing sounds superb. Sooooo glad I found this video.
Hi thanks for the video! What tool did u use to remove the brown switches? I couldn't catch the name in the video. I'm having trouble removing the switches, (it seems not possible or i don't have enough strength and/or the right tool) they just won't budge. Was it a lot of effort to remove them on your end (by strength i mean)
Thanks for watching! I used a switch puller, you can find them from different keyboard companies or on amazon or something. Some are better than others and the one I have isn't great so was def a bit of effort to get them out, I was pulling pretty hard to get them outta there
Tip for cheap keycaps. In Germany there are a bunch of old cherry g80 keyboards up on eBay that are really cheap ~15-20€. The keycaps should fit modern cherry switches. Don't know how plenty these keyboards were in other parts of the world g81 was also mechanical.
Nicely done! I did something very similar with my K4 and I had the same problem with the battery cable clip, couldn't remove it for the life of me so ended up leaving it in. It is easy enough to work around it. I think the K4 a decent board for the money, although I agree the keycaps let it down. I ended up buying two different sets of caps to get the colour I wanted which added a fair bit to the price (not to mention the Zealio v2 tactile switches..). The IquinixF96 might be a good alternative?
Hey! Thanks so much :) Super appreciate it :) Yeah its a decent board for what its worth. Especially with the aluminum housing. The Iquinix could definitely be a good alternative for anyone looking for a full sized board.
