Ever since Taylor Swift's highly anticipated double-album 'The Tortured Poets Department' (TTPD) released in April 2024, the reaction has been extremely mixed, with Swifties saying it's one of her best albums, and the general public saying it's one of her worst. In this video, I analyse the reaction to the single and music video 'Fortnight', analyse the lyrics to the whole album, and break down the entire tortured poets era, from its announcement at the Grammys, to the promo, to the album rollout, and to the reviews and reactions. I break down the allegation that Taylor is becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) of pop music and that she is becoming overexposed, particularly through the re-recordings, the eras tour, and her relationship with Travis Kelce, and previous relationships with Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy. I also break down why the reaction to this album has been so different to Ariana Grande's Eternal Sunshine, Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, and Taylor's previous albums: Debut, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and the Taylor's Version albums. - Развлечения
At this point there's no turning back for me. I'm all for Taylor and as long as I'm enjoying her music I don't care what other people think of her or her music.
This is her "difficult woman" album. It's a brilliant ode to all the messy, unlikable famous women who came before her, and I love how much she leans into that. I think it's her best work too besides evermore and folklore, and this is another fantastic analysis. The GP's reaction will always be predictable, and it's a shame most people will dismiss it right off the bat for the same tired reasons everyone else is parroting. At the same time, it doesn't really matter, because she made this album for HER.
100%. And I always prefer when an artist makes music for THEMSELVES, because it’s the most emotional and authentic, and what’s the best thing about music other than being emotionally moved? That’s why I listen to music anyway
The difference between the recording time of folk-more and TTPD is that folk-more was mostly written during the pandemic when she had a lot of free time to write and refine her work, while TTPD was recorded mostly during The Eras Tour which gave her a little less time to make truly spectacular material.
Which is why it's mediocre
@@Dojafishexactly. I mean, that can be the reason TTPD isn’t great, but it doesn’t excuse that fact. TTPD just isn’t good.
However, TTPD IS spectacular. Her best work to date. If you cannot hear this, that’s on you, the quality is there.
But it's actually brilliant and I think it could be her best, it's too early to say, I still have to listen to it more. If you take the time to listen to the album over than 2 times you might see it is sooooo good.
@@DojafishYou can say "I think it is mediocre" but you CANNOT say "it is mediocre". THAT is NOT A VERIFIABLE FACT. I can say "I think you are a moron" but I cannot say "you are a moron". Language MATTERS.
great video! i also think that the eras tour seriously added to said overexposure. I’m also have curious to see what the tpd’s tour will look like and what the setlist will be, since this is a slower and quieter album.
I dont think there will be another tour this tour still got another year
she added TTPD to the Eras Tour.
I do agree that TTPD could've had much better editing, she could've switched many of the standard version tracks with anthology tracks and it would've fared much better, especially under the eyes of non-swifties. Like seriously, why are The Black Dog, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus and I look in people's windows deluxe tracks? She knows that well written songs like these will be appreciated by the public
I've been watching a lot of reaction videos to the album so I've been experiencing it in order over and over and I like the anthology B side more as a whole because there's more songs I will personally replay but listening to it all the way through made me realize that I think the placement is on purpose in terms of storytelling. and I think the choices make sense for that reason.
and also to give people breaks so some of the more upbeat songs are put in there specifically in a spot to add some levity.
I also think the first half is more like reliving and expressing and getting out all that rage and then the second half is more like reflection and softer and after it's over.
I generally agree. The only thing I disagree with is the "It's not a 31 track album" argument. Because in the places where most people listen to music nowadays, Spotify and Apple Music, it is. The Anthology has all 31 songs. And it does make it difficult to listen to it properly because there isn't a proper "break".
But is it the general public that's not fucking with this album or just a loud minority of people on social media who already don't like Taylor? Cause I think we seem to be confusing the former with the latter...
Not true at all
@@ShawnBloomits true very much. All the people who joined hate train during nfl have suddenly became Taylor Swift music riviewer as if they always listened to her music.
Even people who like Taylor Swift criticized this album. And the serious press, which praised Folklore to the heavens, also rated this album worse. And these people definitely have their arguments. These are not general haters. I have the feeling that some fans really don't manage to show the slightest degree of objectivity. Just because you're a fan doesn't mean you should blindly defend everything. This album isn't bad, but it's just not as good quality or innovative as some of its predecessors. It's not a bad thing and it's the logical consequence if you don't take the time to really concentrate on it, but record it alongside a world tour.
@mackay5449 Really... which artists do you consider yourself a fan of? Do you have any critiques of their music/artistry? Can you say that any of them have made a mid or bad album? I ask this because I've seen this sentiment spewed out over and over again yet there seems to be an exception to this rule for certain artists and... idk perhaps my least favorite thing about this whole discourse is the hypocrisy and insincerity I'm seeing.
Saw a lot of negative review about her BILLIONAIRE status, lovelife and jet setter life instead of her MUSIC.🤔Posting and deleting review after a 20-30min of her Album release etc... And you wonder why the die hard swifties are pressed? 🙄 No problem about the criticism as long as they are OBJECTIVE ~👌
It’s mixed bc ppl are at a point with Taylor where they feel she’s TOO HIGH AT THE TOP and needs to be brought down hard. Even so called fans have started agreeing, and as a Swiftie would DISAGREES with that treatment, it really pisses me off.
People throw rocks at things that shine indeed
I've heard these so called fans start to comparing her to McDonald's, which is so stupid, or wish her to stop writing songs all together. Like Wtf!? As a swiftie, trust us, we do NOT need more people to like Taylor. Go enjoy what you like. Let others enjoy what they like.
They are just gonna criticize you anyway but Taylor is doing what she does best which is creating music!
"Should I roll the stone away? They're going to crucify me anyway..."
Creating music not create good music. I think quality control is severely lacking in this album
I have no idea how others received it or why…. I can only speak for myself. It’s my favorite album and I never would have thought that possible. It’s magnificent.
critics and haters dont realize their efforts to discredit her only makes her stronger.
This was really well put
This is such an excellent and measured response, especially compared to what a lot of critics are saying. I do think the album could have been cut down or reorganised to tell a more cohesive story (at the same time as wanting all of these songs to be out there and available 😅)
You explained so well how the sound in tortured poets closes sounds from Joe eras. I had the inkling but I wasn't able to put words to it because I was missing the Joe constant. My soul can rest now. XD
The anthology is everything i ever wanted
I haven't gone through the whole albums yet but it sounds like folklore and Midnights had a baby. TTPD sounds a lot like Lana Del Ray. It just feels like something we've heard before. I'm praying to whatever is out there that her next release is something out of her comfort zone like rock.
I really don’t understand the Lana comparisons at all. I feel like every time TTPD is brought up, so is Lana. But the music sounds nothing like Lana, regardless of Jack working on multiple projects. Lana is very influential but I just don’t here and nobody provides specifics, just that it’s Lana reminiscent
I don't get why people insist that every new release must be different from the sounds that came before.
The majority of artists stay in their lane without getting these criticisms.
ironically the video on the right at 22:22 explains why the video maker disagrees with you lmao
Taylor's closing monologue from Miss Americana :
" We live in this society where women in entertainment are discarded in an
elephant graveyard by the time they're 35.
The female artists that I know of have
reinvented themselves 20 times more
than the male artists. They have to. Or
else you're out of a job.
Constantly having to reinvent.
Constantly finding new facets of yourself
that people find to be shiny.
"Be new to us."
"Be young to us."
"But only in a new way. and only the way we want."
"And reinvent yourself, but only in a way
we find to be equally comforting, but also a challenge for you."
"Live out a narrative that we find to be
interesting enough to entertain us, but not so crazy that it makes us uncomfortable.'. "
@@craidenmaldonado590true , Taylor singing doesn't sound like lana at all. Her songs like sad beutiful tragic, white horse are what it reminds of . Country - pop Taylor mix. Not lana at all.
Great video and Analysis. I agree that the album will be appreciated later on that’s what happened with RED.
99% of the songs are about Matty, not Joe... I love this album but it was little to do with Joe 😂
7 songs are for JOE
@@celmargret4451 I can see maybe four, but even if it's 7, out of 31... Not much about him...
@@SammyTeal A lot of her fears on the relationship possibly ending and the ultimate downfall of it can be found in her other albums, especially Midnights. I think this is mostly the immediate aftermath, which inevitable focuses on Matty since he promised her everything she was missing
The best explanation ever for this album.
Great video! My issues with TTPD are exactly that my expectations weren't met. I don't think it's bad, most songs are really good, but I'm having a hard time reframing everything. The more I listen to Fortnight, the more I like it. Maybe TTPD should've been a visual album, at least the standard version, because I truly believe those songs benefit from individual contemplation.
this video was so well written. kudos
Everything about this video is ON POINT. You blur the lines between subjectivity and objectivity to make a point that's really hard to refute.
Again... Taylor has written TTPD to end this era of her
life. She stated "the story is
not mine anymore" per the
Manuscript.
Taylor will be focused on
bigger and better things in
her life. Now she is DONE
with the K family. I wish her
the best of everything in the
future. GoTay📿 TNT
This was a great video! Thank you!! Most videos will be very one sided and refuse to take other perspectives into account. I found this very informative and leaving it up to us to decide what we think!
I 100% agree with all of your conclusions💯 Thanks for summarising my thoughts.
Setting aside the "quality" of the record, I'm tired of hearing that it is a double album. It's not. You do not see two albums in the streaming platforms, you see the Standard one, and the 30+ song version. Obviously it is so she can capitalize as many streams as possible for a single album, but it's just such a chart obsessed tactic that it overshadows any kind of "artistic vision" behind the "double album" gimmick.
The anthology is an anthology. The standard version is the MOST cohesive album with a very clear storyline
Great music and video! I love this!
This is one of the most on the nose responses to the reviews (and ultimately a review within itself). You touch on sooooo many points about this album that I’ve picked up on, but have yet to see any of the reviews from either fans or critics pick up on. And I’ve been wanting to shout about these points, so I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to experience your acknowledgement of these. Namely 1.) that she does employ a new sound 2.) the new sound being this western sound (though I think you can elaborate further here) 3.) that this album has a few inter-connecting themes and (3b) the exacerbation that her relationship to mega fame has on the other themes (heartbreak, isolation, and concluding unfinished thoughts that have begun on prior projects and eras). Also 4.) how the EXTREME variation in rankings, reviews, preferences in sounds on the albums, and thoughts on lyricism refute one of the very consistent criticisms of this album sounding overly cohesive. I could go on and on but I digress.
Last point: despite my vehement love for this review, I don’t emphatically declare this album as her best work as others do. It has valid criticism and I would probably rank it (w the anthology) as 4th or 5th for me. With out the anthology at 6th or 7th. And just the anthology as 3rd or 4th. So overall mid to upper-mid
bruh lover is my favourite albummmm
I would love to see her do a whole album of collars which would allow her to touch so many different sounds and genres
Lead singer of Disturbed even took up for her at one of their shows imagine a collab between them how completely off the hook that would be!!!!!
Also imagine if there was a collab between Beyonce and Taylor ….. I’m actually not a huge Beyonce fan but I’d be all over that
I suspect that most people (including me!) listen to a song and a few of the lyrics (the hook) to decide if they like it. Then it takes repeated listening (or reading the lyrics) before the "story" is understood. Does this apply to you?
The voice narrating this video is too robotic and no pauses when there are ends of sentences or commas. Is this an AI voice ?
I think it is.
I wish she would work with Max Martin again. I'm kinda tired of the Jack albums
That's unlikely to happen, especially after SIO trial and MM's admission
did u miss the point of the video?
Honestly I don’t mind more songs with Jack I just want her to work with other producers beside him and Aaron. A Dev Hynes produce Taylor album would be cool lmao. Or maybe even a rock album produced by St, Vincent!
I see the line in waolom about teeth as another nod to the themes of being in a mental hospital in the album. It was a very common procedure to pull teeth to treat mental illness in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. So they took out her teeth because she was going mad.
Excellent summary. TTPD is my favorite album of all time. I have come to like all 31 songs, and I love all but 2. (Robin and Windows have grown on me, but I could live without them.)
I wish I understood why so many people refer to certain lyrics as "cringy". It's probably one of those things where you either get it or you don't, and I don't. But I'm wondering if there might be any plausible way to argue that they are objectively bad or, at least, some way to explain in objective terms, why the lyrics feel cringy to so many people. Is there, for example, something related to age. I'm 66yo so maybe I'm missing some context that the younger generations share. If so, that would be an example of an objectively measurable factor (a survey would show a statistically significant difference between generations). Something similar could be said for male/female or memberships in other fandoms. (I'm a swiftie, but this is the only fandom I've ever been in. Prior to Taylor, "fandom" just wasn't a thing for me.) Anyway, sorry, I'm starting to ramble.
taylor is always 3 steps ahead of the critics
thats such a great reviewwwwwwwwwwww i loved it!
I don’t think it’s ever bad to ever have lore in music. Great example is twenty one pilots. They have so much lore and you have to be a big fan to understand it and a lot of their songs (especially new ones). They are pretty popular, but they are nowhere near Taylor Swift level of popularity. If they did, I’m sure they would get criticism for being too cryptic and too lore focused. A lot of people criticize her just because of how popular she is and I think that is so unfair.
Honestly some of the best 20th century artists has lore like TOP and Taylor does on their albums.
OH MY GOD 2026 IS IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS HOLY SHIT
The funny thing is everyone seems to assume that she's portraying herself as a tortured poet. Just listening to the title track alone lets you know that she's being ironic.
It's ok if someone doesn't like it. It's totally fair. Push backs bring out the best in artists and there are valid constructive criticisms that I think Taylor should take into consideration for her next project (like working with new producers)
But majority of the criticisms I've seen lack any real critical thinking. Just bad faith arguments, stan twitter talking points, and always bringing up her billionaire status.
Personally, the more I listen to it the more I love this album. However, I do think that she should've released the anthology maybe a week later or better yet, a fortnight later.
😅 yeah a lot of the critiques come from just the name and the marketing alone people saying that it's ridiculous that a rich white billionaire is acting like she's tortured but she's literally deconstructing it, making fun of it, and critiquing it the entire album.
the problem is that most of those people haven't even heard it and even if they have they all kind of assumed from a misogynistic standpoint that she isn't smart enough to do anything like that.
they just think she has nothing interesting to say and they talk about her as if she's pretending to be a teenager still in all of her music. the public perception is quite crazy how different it is from reality.
Awesome take. Very good analysis. My favorite line, “Taylor is one of the only artists who you need to know the lore to fully comprehend her work. And this leads to a massive disconnect between her fans appreciating the lyrics and the general public not getting it.”
i hope her next album, whenever we get it, is a whole new sound for the same reason you said: we've tied up all the loose ends and finished this chapter in her life, its time to move onto the next and start a chapter where you DONT need to know all the lore of her life to fully appreciate it. i think once we get to that point, people will start appreciating her again... or not, who really cares lol
I love all her music!
Love your take
The “Joe albums”? Should I be stalking her like that?✨💀✨ I wanna be hip to the background, but like…how close should I be looking REALLY? Is there a TL;DR for the Swift lore?
The take on the video just confirms what I thought on the album.
not a fan here, I like a couple of songs here and there, folklore was her peak for me and the moment where I thought I would like her. anyhow I consider myself PG regarding her. As an artist I found her latest albums lacking as those that artists do when they want to finish contracts, very uninspired and just to meet the quota.
I tried to listen to the first part of TTPD, and just as previous works after evermore I can barely diferientiate them. musically speaking the album tried at some points but was very very lacking, for lack of a better phrase it gave me blue balls.
Lirically for me is simple if you are not swiftie and are not into the lore you will not get it, if you don't care about her life you will feel zero attraction to the lyrics, objectively some are laughable.
I will not talk about her on a personal level too much, I will just say their attitude to feed the fire of her fandom is irresponsible.
Her fandom is something that is vicious and toxic, I understand that a lot of people feel seen with her music that is ok, the problem is when the entirety of the personality revolves around liking her and every criticism are deemed as personal.
on her latest album I only kind of liked florida due to florence although it seemed like a song out of the florence album Lungs, so I liked it for nostalgic purposes.
for me I was hesitant on listening to her after midnights and at this points I am ready to move on. I have no intention on following her music anymore unless I hear something really interesting from her just as it happens when I heard cardigan.
TTPD dethroned 1989 as my favourite album which held its spot for 10 years. This album is genius and such a beautiful ode to feminine rage. First listen I was so awestruck with having a new album that I didn’t take much notice of the music itself. Upon second, third and fourth listen I started the get it and now almost 3 weeks later, it’s the only thing I’ve been playing on repeat. It’s cohesive in its theme of pining after someone whilst feeling trapped in a relationship, followed by undergoing scrutiny for her choices and her thoughts during public moments whilst heartbroken, then ending with moving forward into a new relationship and forgetting the past whilst calling out the music industry as a whole in its recycling of treating women the same as those that come before them
I believe the critiques are so divided because Taylor gave no shits and was so raw with the album, which for me is something good and I love it
When did Taylor say she began recording rep tv in late 2022?
The reason it is mixed is because a lot of people just give it one or two listens and then judge it. After 4 listens I am finding it better each time, and omg, when I first heard the album I was thinking 'wow, this isn't very good', lol, now I'm like 'this could be her best ever!!'. Even top critics have recanted what they first said about the album saying they spoke too quick and the album has 'grown' on them lol. I find the whole thing interesting, because those who think it is bad really do think it is bad lol.
4:06 this is so true.
6:32
I appreciate this take!
I commented before listening to all of this. I couldn’t disagree more that this doesn’t break new ground. I won’t defend it, it doesn’t need it.
TUN was made in 6 months, not 2 weeks
She is still relatable
You did a video on Dua about the expectation of reinvention yet you want Taylor to reinvent? lol
Wow, I was very impressed by your reaction to this album, which I honestly believe is her best to date. I wish that alot lot more of the general public and the nay negative sayers could hear how well you put this review of ttpd. It was more thought-out, well understood, and what I felt was unbiased critique. I believe your review of this album was better than any of the most respected reviews. Wich I felt that most just read the track list and went with that or listened to maybe a song or two and judged from that, and I mean judged, not reviewed.
I actually really disliked this album but I do think you make a great point -- all of her albums (except Folklore, which is my personal favorite, and Evermore to an extent) received criticism at first. Personally, I do tend to agree with the critics most of the time, but an example is that at first I didn't like Midnights because synth pop is NOT my sound, but it has really grown on me a lot recently. I didn't get it at first, but maybe 6 months after the release it's moved into my top 5 TS albums.
They're gonna crucify me anyway~
I LOOOOOVE LOVE LOVE THIS VIDEO !!! exactly my thoughts ❤️❤️
Since the release of TTPD, I haven't listened to any other songs/albums. This is my favourite album of her, replacing Red!!!!
I love the albums, and couldn’t care less what other people say!
Taylor didn't make this album for the mass general audience but for the true fans. People are going to judge her either way and at almost 20 years into her career she's just making music for herself now.
This album is definitely not about Joe. Maybe 1 or 2 songs. This is mostly about Matty Healy
Don't care team taylor always!!!!!
Excellent exploration of her albums and their receptions.
Well I don't think Taylor Swift is capable of making a bad album fortnite was good what part of the problem was with the production in the second song tortured Poets Department was an excellent track but you would never know it because it had no drum parts department sounds like they were too tired to make a really good album because they were on tour but this album is definitely not terrible but it's definitely not one of Taylor's best albums
She making a mediocre album telling with hiden meaning of "i dont care if you tell me this album is mediocre"
70% Jack Antonoffs Fault
30% Tays fault
Why its mixed
Album felt rush compared to folklore/evermore it took less than a year yet the poetry is superior compared to TTPD which she said 2 years.
Jack? Arent we already tired of his production where 3 Other Artists collabs with him for an entire era (Lana which her last 3 album sounds the same)
You can't just listen to it once. You need to actually listen to the words and the meaning behind them.
I've been utterly disappointed by Taylor although I've been a fan for over a decade. Lover was ok to me, not my strongest liking nor a hate one.
Midnights is my least favorite album cause the sound/production is boring, sleepy and feels unfinished with no progression. The 70s aesthetic and the mystery surrounding the sound were misleading imo. Speak Now TV was another let down cause of the production. 1989 TV as a whole is the worst thing I've encountered as a TS fan.
While waiting for TTPD, the whole vibe was giving me 1910s-1920s and having no lead single or snippet yet again I thought we'd be getting a sound similar to "the lakes" or Lana's "Young and Beautiful" or "Born To Die" and I was so up for it. Listening to the first 5 tracks was a stab in my back once again for choosing this pile of trash synthpop (which I love when done right, I just don't think Taylor/her collaborators can do). But almost the rest of the tracklist, are amazing, like I love it so much, if we exclude the atrocity "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart". Another example of a song that starts of promising, starting out great and then the chorus comes and I'm like "WTF is this noise?" Then comes the epic "THE SMALLEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED" and I died dead omg.
I took some time to listen to the Anthology so I could absorb the first 16 and damn I loved the majority of them. 11 out of 16 is pretty good imo. With her previous works, I would skip maybe 1-2 per album and most of the times none but the more she does, the more tracks I skip. The Anthology for example has some songs I do love but some others that I find kinda odd. There are some lyrics that in my ears do not go good with the melody as if she's trying hard to fit them in which I never liked.
All in all, this album is high on my list and even the songs I didn't like had strong potential if the production had been different.
Who care the critics can say qll they want shes singing all the way to the bank!
Taylor plays many different genres so she will miss a few fans every time depending which genre she plays on that album.
The songs about her love life, I totally relate, I know exactly what she's talking about, in a couple of songs it's like she's singing my life... not saying, she knows me in the singing about me lol I'm just saying if I had to write a song, down bad, would definitely be one of them
And then the songs about Matty with his drug addiction, anyone who has dated or married and drug addict, they can relate .
its so dissapointing how she seemingly peaked with folklore and evermore. midnights and ttpd have been extremely dissapointing when its obvious she's capable of making good music, she just doesnt care to
estoy de acuerdo
EERRRMM , because it's shit. The tracks are not hanging around ......
As someone who loves this album, it definitely needed some pruning. Like the standard should have been 14 or so tracks and the Anthology should have been like 8 or something. I do think for next album she should definitely switch genres and not have as many tracks, sorta like 1989.
She should’ve took a break….since the beginning of her Eras tour, I’ve been listening to all her songs for months LOL. I’m kinda tired of her at this point. If she released this album in 2025 or maybe even 2026, I’d probably appreciate it more. 😭🤷🏻♀️
Same . Agree with you
How is it her fault if YOU have her on repeat lols? I have her on repeat until I get bored, like I do with every other artist I like. Granted she isnt my all time favourite so she gets less air time in my head, but I do really enjoy her music, and Im sufficiently in control of the misic I consume to revognize when I need a break from a any artist
I hate this idea of artists needing to take a break they can work as much or as little as they want if you don't want to listen to it listen to something else.
artists make art for themselves first and foremost and we should not discourage them from making work when they want to.
I absolutely don't think that artists need to take brakes just to improve their work either it's completely their choice and fans should stop pressuring Taylor to do anything.
it's not your place it's not your life it's not your art.
@@marigolden_mariposa Your points undermine one another. As consumers, if we aren't allowed to voice our opinion then are we really consumer? Call Taylor swift an artist all you want, but in my eyes, she's a BUSINESS WOMAN first before she is an artist. This is apparent in her action. YOU'RE excused.
@@horselover40 My point is: she is OVEREXPOSED and its impacting how the public perceive her music. If she released this album 1-2 years from now, the reception would not be as negative as it is now, which exactly summarizes the point made in the video. Did that go over your head again??? I hope not!
💯
Again...she is responsible for people being in her relationship business
I think Spectrum Pulse has the best Review so Far.
We already have so many artists that release hyper relatable surface level songs, why shouldn't us, full album appreciators, have something to call ours?
Anyway. It seems to me she releases albums because she writes a lot, and she writes as a way of coping. I don't think she gives a fuck anymore. Eventually, people will replace her, and she knows it. So she will do whatever she wants for as long as she has.
And about the weak lyrics, honestly, I never experienced a work from any artist that was not kind of cringe at some points: novels, movies, tv series, video games. And poetry, of course, which is usually very hard to interpret when you don't know the context of the author. I think art can be technical at times, and just trial and error at others.
People has been criticizing her a lot over the years 'cause she is very notorious and productive, which makes expectations higher, and so, creates disappointments, even though so many people love her work.
It feels to me that Taylor is a niche artist that popped her bubble, that's all.
Its the first album from Swift i dont like at all. Not one Song. Dont like the sound
several of the songs on the second side sound like they could be in Evermore or folklore. did you like those albums?
I look in people's windows has been dubbed as the sister song to death by a thousand Cuts. do you like death by a thousand Cuts?
personally my favorites so far are I Look in People's Windows, Prophecy, The Black Dog, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, loml, The Albatross, The Bolter, Peter, down bad.
@@marigolden_mariposa I dont think i listend to all songs on the second album. I like death of a thousand cuts, need to check the suggested song. Despite all I'm happy that people like it. Maybe the album will grow on me ;D
I personally think the criticism is weak at best. I feel from most people it's personal. She can never win for them. It's a great album.
So ask the haters what THIER track record of production is? That'll end it.
😂😂😂
Saying that folklore and evermore are her best work is crazy to me. I know some people became fans in the folkmore era but it feels so NOT Taylor to me. Her collab a with Aaron are so frigging boring for the most part 😭
People have such varied preferences, and it's crazy that she gets criticized for providing different choices.
@@MSerrada1100% but I feel like it shows her greatness as an artist being so versatile
it's always so funny to see the different opinions. I wasn't a fan until a month ago (but growing up my guilty pleasure was I Knew You Were Trouble) and my favorite albums are folklore, evermore, ttpd, 1989 and speak now for haunted + vault tracks.
some of my favorite songs she's ever made are the 1989 vault tracks.
but yeah, nothing comes close to Folklore and evermore except maybe TTPD. superior.
@joannafakename Me too. I love some her vault teqckz so much. It drives me crazy those who say she shouldn't have released 31 songs. Maybe the timing could be argued, but the 2 TTPD albums are different, so many are drawn to 1 not the other...I love both.
Geesh, did autocorrect make up a new word or did I slur tracks that badly...
It's funny cuz I'm a fan of her music, I'm not a swiftie, but her music is entertaining, it does not have the quality of Caroline Polachek or the voice of Ariana Grande (yes I'm comparing since releasing a lot of music that sounds almost the same is like a Shein music production) she's white, pretty, blonde, has that "relatable" personality (sometimes I think she might be asperger). The point is, she's the Shein of music: quantity over quality, meanwhile we have real artists like Caroline, Tove Lo, Carly Rae Jepsen and even Lana Del Rey, with music that really touches the depth of human imagination and creativity with a lot of edge and experimentation but they are criminally underrated by the mainstream industry, yes, taylor might be the music industry, but she's the commercial, mainstream and capitalistic side of the music industry.
She touches me in my soul. I’m a 74 yr old rocker but her music speaks to me. I love this new album
It always kills me when y'all try to present y'all opinions and preferences as factual 😭 Describing those girls as "real" artists while calling Taylor "the shein of music" is so pretentious and disingenuous. Both Carly and Lana release music damn ner as frequently as Taylor (and tbh the music isn't even that different stylistically) the difference is YOU like their projects more. So just say that. All the extra shit just makes you look jealous and bitter that an artist who you don't enjoy that much is at the top while your faves aren't
Lana del Rey is not underrated she is well known and gets millions of streams from Spotify. And why I have a love/hate relationship with both Lana and Taylor. I do not think think the music of Lana and Tove lo have a lot of depth or creativity.
I really can't think of an active artist more boring or basic than Tove Lo.
I love Caroline, Lana and especially Carly but Taylor, even if her production is safe, is not basic. An actual basic artist like Maroon 5 would never be able to make a song as beautiful as The Lakes or jarring and Haunted.
Album just sucks m8
You're a "swiftie"...AND this is your favorite album? Sorry, but you're the absolute last person that should be making a video determining if this album is good or bad. Let's be clear, you just wanted to make a video defending a terrible album.
art is subjective. opinions are not facts. one subjective opinion on art is not superior to another subjective opinion on art.
art is open to interpretation and critique. we can all collectively look at a piece of art, make up our own minds, and then have an intelligent discussion about it. everyone has biases that they bring into their discussions on art, including you.
just because something isn't your taste doesn't make it objectively bad.
@LD-tn6ff Saying someone is not a “Swiftie” because they like an album Taylor SWIFT made is absolutely ridiculous. You might not like the direction Taylor took with this particular album, but if you expect her to follow your preconceived notions of what her sound/style/lyrics should be then it’s you who isn’t acting like a true fan. Being a fan of an artist means supporting them in whichever direction their heart, mind and creativity take them. Again, that doesn’t mean you’ll like everything they do- and that’s okay. Being a fan means having faith in the artist and allowing them to take you in new directions. Point being, you saying someone is not a Swiftie because they like an album is the non-Swiftie behavior.
r u okay lol this makes no sense
I haven’t scene the criticism
At first the songs sounded the same, the lyrics were over whelming and i had a hard tims wrapping my head around how it was not what i was expecting. But to quote chatsandreacts... Is is superior. 🤍
