Before the smash success of the Eras tour, Taylor had planned another tour which remains of the most mysterious aspects of her career. There was very little information given about it, but the details we were given were extremely confusing and raised a lot of questions, most of which are still unanswered.
Taylor was planning something big, but it seemed like it might not even be a tour at all. Today, I’m gonna tell you all about Loverfest, the Taylor Swift “tour” that never happened. Loverfest was initially announced on September 17th 2019, almost a month after Taylor’s album Lover, and it was obviously implied to be the supporting tour, the same way the reputation tour promoted reputation, the 1989 tour promoted 1989, and so on. CORRECTION: Hi everyone! I'm really sorry. but the pie chart for 1989 at 06:24 is wrong. I didn't spot it until I was uploading and it was too late to change it. What I said is correct. 82% of songs on the 1989 tour were tracks from 1989. The average setlist for the tour was 17 songs, and 14 were from 1989 (14/17 = 82%). But the pie chart is incorrect. I don't know what happened there. Again, I'm sorry for any confusion.

Correction No 2 I guess, Brazil is not in Europe, you probably overlooked it while making the video, but it felt weird you generalizing on european dates and just ignoring Brazil is in South America, which is pretty significant. I am not Brazilian but I am South American and Taylor had never toured in this part of the world before, those Brazil dates were important and the part of the world they are in. The Latin American dates of the Eras Tour meant a lot to me even if I couldn't go.
@@patax144 Sorry about that. I totally understand that her touring Brazil for the first time is really important. The reason I focused on Europe was because she played a mini-concert in Brazil before (Taylor Swift's Showcase in 2012), whereas she hasn't done that in countries like Portugal or Poland. Sorry if you felt like I was ignoring Brazil. That really wasn't my intention at all. 🩷

This festival getting cancelled was ironically the best thing to happen to her career. She released two of her best albums and reached new career peaks.
Karma rly is her bf because every bad thing that’s happened to her career has ended up being the best thing for her career, masters being stolen = re-records = eras tour = height of fame. Snake gate = she got vindicated = she’s the underdog = she gets a new narrative = more popularity (reputation brought in a huge new audience), she stays winning

The whole reason she went into that genre is because of her disconnect from her label during the pandemic, which lead her to literally releasing 2 albums with no promo (something her label wasn’t very happy about). I think she would’ve created a “lover 2.0” if the tour had happened

@@jackjones5920 not about the songs themselves/the album, but the era. She wasn’t very popular during Lover, which I feel is another reason why it had so few shows.

@@crits2524 yes I feel like that was one reason, but another may be due to lover under preforming, she didn’t believe she could do a full stadium tour like before in reputation, even some reputation shows had 25% empty shows. So maybe amongst her and her team it didn’t make sense to spend all the time and money reserving stadiums that won’t be full

I guarantee you that if loverfest happened many of the underated songs on the album like I think he know, afterglow, etc. would’ve gotten the right recognition they still deserve to this day
That didn't apply to End Game, DWOHT, and TIWWCHNT tho. They're still quite underrated

I agree that the _Lover_ section of the Eras Tour was essentially a highly-repurposed version of the original plans for Loverfest. The very opening sequence of "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince" plus "Cruel Summer" was essentially the opening for Loverfest, but reconfigured for the much larger Eras Tour stage.
Tbh, I don’t think that MAATHB would have been the opener for LoverFest. Although it has become so an iconic opener for the eras tour with all of the album titles and such, imo it only works because it truly had been a long time coming. (Pun intended)
Yes I’ve always said this and it was my first thought when I saw opening night with the wing like things in the opener. My mind went immediately to “festival”
I think she only opened with Miss Americana because she liked the “it’s been a long time coming” because she hadn’t toured in a long time. That being, I don’t thing it would have been the original lover fest opener. Also because she’s nicknamed “Miss Americana” for being a very popular American pop star. So it was like her introduction to her tour by announcing her title
I think the lover tour was her farewell tour since she said that she felt that she wasn’t “relevant” and she wanted to go with a “bang”
Even though I’m kind of thankful she didn’t do it for how her career is now, it would still be SO COOL to see Lover Fest
if loverfest had happened people wouldn’t hate the album as much and it wouldn’t be so underrated. there’s SO many songs on there that are gems but just didn’t get the recognition they deserved

I believe that the reason why the Lover set was the first part of The Eras Tour is because that was the real concept she thought of for the cancelled Lover Fest.... and maybe MAATHP/Cruel Summer was also her opening song if there was a Lover Fest that happened. Anyway, The Eras Tour is just so amazing, we're reliving all of the eras one moment at a time.
I had tickets to see her in Gdynia at the Open'er Festival. More than four years later, I will finally see her concert in August ❤
That opener festival must be amazing, I've heard so much about it and yet it's still quite small, isn't it? Poland is hiding that gem well
@@phoebeel It is one of the largest festivals in Poland, but we don't have very big festivals (apart from Pol'and'Rock, but that one is more rock and metal oriented). The line-up is usually good but it's infamous for bad weather. It rains almost every year, and last time I attended it in 2022 (with my 2020 ticket), Dua Lipa's concert was cancelled due to the storm. So, I stopped going because I got tired of getting soaked in the rain 🙃 But overall it is an interesting festival with different music genres.

I think this tour could have led to many controversies and fan disappointments if It ever happened. Everything happens for a reason.
I think its so sad that a tour got cancelled while the eras tour is something worth seeing its so sad, she spread the hype for a tour for her lover album which I think is a good album and then it got cancelled and its sad that afterglow was meant to be performed on the lover fest but isn't on the eras tour setlist as that is such a good song
*chuckle* as I loverfest ticket holder, trust me, Ticketmaster did NOT give us priority and hawkers-dressed-in-swifties-empath-clothing flocked.
here in Brasil it worked just fine, two of my friends had Lover Fest tickets and they were able to get Eras tickets first, of course it was hard but mostly cause the websites aren't projected to uphold so many people at once
When I was researching for this, it said that Loverfest ticket holders had increased chances of getting presale access, but not guaranteed. I found quite a few sources saying this, but I guess it's hard to verify.

Yes. Ticketmaster’s “glitch” didn’t give us any priority. It looked like most that didn’t get tickets during presale had loverfest and merch boost… but those without it got put near through the queue for priority codes. I had both, didn’t get a code. My mom made a Ticketmaster account just to attempt to help get me tickets, she got the priority code. 😅

I think if she would have considered a folklore and evermore tour it would have been, start with a little bit of lover (daylight, inthaf, other songs that would somewhat fit into folklore or evermore) and then go into a forest and preform some folklore, go deeper into the forest and preform evermore. 😊

It was 3 reasons, and I feel like in this order:
1. Her moms cancer
2. Her decline of fame, feeling that she shouldn’t do too many dates in worry it won’t be filled (what happened to some reputation dates)
3. Joe
I was in that crowd at Radio’s Big Weekend in Norwich. Taylor was so good!

I was never going to be able to make it to Loverfest but I was able to attend the Eras tour by some miracle so it worked out for me. I'll always sympathize with Taylor for having to cancel the Loverfest and all her work. I'm always curious about it.

My boyfriend at the time bought us tickets to go to California on my birthday for Loverfest, and he made this adorable gift box with a chain of paper rings in it and it was so sweet. It would've been so perfect. And then COVID had to ruin everything, and I haven't been able to see The Eras Tour in consolation which is upsetting lol. I don't think he ever got his money back for the Loverfest tickets, either. So thanks Ticketmaster ya scummy bastards

Prior to the announcement of the Eras Tour, I thought about how Taylor could’ve repurposed Loverfest and turn it into “TaylorFest”, basically The Eras Tour but with a music festival vibe and plenty of guests.
Parts of the LoverFest stage were used by Garth Brooks for his 2023 tour!

Imagine if she makes a mini Lover Fest for about a few months, after the Eras Tour, it would be so cool to see. It is delusional to think but it could bring Lover back like rerecordings did to her older albums, and all the song would go hit just as Cruel Summer. I knoww not possible but fun to fantasize.
Or like a Taylor’s Version fest celebrating her gaining back her masters for debut. Since there are no Debut songs on the Eras Tour setlist.
I even bought tickets for it back when they were being sold, then covid took that away from me… :(

It's had more longevity than most of her other albums, but initially it performed weaker than expected (imo because of the choice of singles)

I still think that she should do something special for a Lover anniversary, like an special LoverFest edition on a US desert or something.
I think when she releases the documentary of the rerecordings we will learn about the canceling of lover fest, some of the show details, and the pandemic affecting her as a whole. She started the rerecordings during this time in her life so its a reasonable assumption.
I know that if this tour had happened it would've been my favorite tour she's ever done
How she added more songs? It’s all of her ‘eras’…I’m not a die hard swifter but doesn’t this include more blockbuster Taylor hits? So in hindsight it would be more inclusive therefore better.

I would attend Roskilde Festival in 2020 to listen to Taylor Swift but I would imagine that the Lover Fest was more anti-climactic wrt. the previous tours. Now, four years later, I will finally listen to her in Hamburg in July, taking revenge on the covid 19 pandemic.

I had tickets for berlin and i remember she said that it was supposed to be a small venue/summer festival like tour which was supposed ro be a bit more intimate. I was SO HYPED because i love open air concerts and that venue in Berlin is AMAZING... My biggest problem with covid is the cancellation of Loverfest

@@Loveya226 None of my family or friends had it, or if they did, they just had a cold. I was still working as I was an "essential" worker so COVID didn't really touch me at all. Even did my post-grad during that time. So no, the pandemic didn't touch me. Sure, it was madness but apart from a cancelled concert, I didn't see any consequences in my personal life.

Looking at the leaked stage plan, the Eras Tour stage up to the end of the diamond look very similar, and almost none of the songs from the Lover Era went past the end of the diamond. The Archer was the only song. Nice little documentary. We'll hear about it in due course I expect, you also have to consider that Taylor doesn't do all this organisation herself she might put out the idea and her team will then run with it. I would suggest that she didin't want to stray very far from her mother tbh. She was promoting the album more by appearances at iHeart Radio Wango Tango, Prime Day Concert and City of Lover in Paris, also the BBC Live Lounge was unusually held in the USA rather than in UK. She really didn't want to go far.
That's a good point. I didn't really mention it in the video, but I was thinking about how she might have incorporated the elevated platforms in the Lover section of the Eras Tour at Loverfest. Obviously, this only would've been possible at Loverfest East and West because of the custom stage, and the rest of the tour probably would've had to be more simple in terms of the staging since they would've been at existing festivals. I really wonder how different those stadium shows would have been from the rest of the tour. It just seems like a completely different setup, in comparison to a normal tour where it's the same stage everywhere.
@@elsiebo. I don't think she would have had any of the risers or LED panels just for 4 shows. The Eras staging has been estimated at $100m +. Lover Fest would I believe have been an expansive but simple staging to retain that Festival "feel". It was a shame she didn't get to play Glasto because of COVID and I now wonder whether she ever will, especially as the "British connection" in Joe is no longer there.

I had tickets to Loverfest West but was never confused. It was clearly marketed as her next tour but with a festival component. Festivals are indoors frequently here, and we were excited to see the other acts. I don't agree with the complaining either. Airfare was WAY DOWN due to the growing info out of China in late 2019. By the time we bought tickets to LA it was clear it was unlikely to happen to due the pandemic

As a lover fest ticket holder I can tell you we certainly did not get priority access to eras tour tickets 🥲
in Brazil the fans who bought tickets to Lover Fest never really got a refund. The platform that was used to sell the tickets just turned it into “credits” on their website so people could buy other tickets instead, which was not really fair. However The Eras Tour tickets wore sold on the same platform and the Lover Fest fans who were still interested had an exclusive presale date and could use said credit, the ones who didn’t buy it still haven’t got that money back.
And just for curiosity, the show poorly postponed in Brazil (18/11) was the date that the Lover Fest fans had bought, and still weren’t given the chance to get a refund. They could either hold on to the ticket (and maybe sell it) or turn into credit again. Comical if not tragic, right? 🥲
Same for the Poland tickets, I never got money back...
