Watchmojo, where's Rocky Balboa/Creed franchise?
STAR TREK YOU IDIOTS
the marvel cinematic universe
I feel like pirates of the Caribbean shoulda at least been an honorable mention. Brought a whole new film experience with that franchise
Yes it one if my favorite franchises of all time even if I do think it got too many sequels. I love Dead Man’s chest! And don’t get me started on the amazing pirates score!
Absolutely. They should have done a top 15 instead and also put it pretty high... Lord of the Rings is also to low... Behind Indiana Jones is a joke... Indiana Jones is cool and nice but young and old people crave more Lord of the Rings than more Indiana Jones...
Pirates 1 and 2 were great, but the remaining were horrible. Takes away the glory of the first 2. Then again, it's better than the Fast franchise
I just finished re watching the franchise, missed those times
@@rrjgplWorld’s End was awesome as well. 4 and 5 we don’t talk about tho
It’s honestly amazing that the original Lord of the Rings trilogy holds up as well as it does today. It’s better than most movies that come out today.
You mean better than ALL the movies
I agree 👍,,,
I don't think that they will ever be topped,,,,,☝️
agree. and the Extended version of _The Lord of The Rings_ trilogy are worth for collected
My Fav is Star Wars OT but LOTR is a masterpiece trilogy! An example of how it should be done!
Make it seem as if the trilogy came out over 50 years ago. Technology has advanced during its release.
I think Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek definitely deserve honorable mentions
I think Star Trek being more TV series based than film based probably held it back. One of the greatest franchises overall though, just not one of the greatest film franchises. It probably should have gotten an honorable mention though.
Totally agree.
@@root13piea fair way to put it tbh
And Alien
LOTR deserves to be much higher: the films were extremely successful, brought in a ton of money, and have aged very well.
I consider the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Indiana Jones, Middle-Earth Saga, Planet Of The Apes, John Wick and DIE HARD as my favorite film franchises.
LOTR trilogy will always be the best 💚
@Sovereign Subjectively for me maybe.
@sovergin I didn’t know Reapers could comment! 😮

Star Wars is better
Feel like both pirates of the Caribbean and Godzilla should’ve at least been an honorable mention. The pirates franchise is one of my favorites next to starwars and Godzilla is too iconic to leave out both are great franchises that brought something new and good to the table!
Pirates should be on the main list as one of the highest grossing live action franchises under the Disney name.
Godzilla is one of the longest running franchises in film history. Toho and otherwise.
PIRATES RULES! And it has an amazing score!
@Less Is More one of the absolute best scores of all time!
Same here
Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Batman are my favorite film franchises. Also most of the series I do agree are great franchises including Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and Back to the future.
John Williams has done most of theme which makes his work well known.
Hans Zimmer has done some masterpiece scores as well!
If they were to replace the Fast & Furious and Planet Of The Apes for the Back To The Future and Jurassic Park franchises, I’d completely agree with the list considering it would be more accurate based on their impact and popularity of those dinosaurs, Marty McFly, and Doctor Emmett L. Brown.
Yeah I've still to this day, only seen the first Fast and Furious movie. Would have loved to have Jurassic Park on the list and some Star Trek. Back to the Future is magical as well.
LOTR changed forever the way movies called "epics" are made , basically impossible make epic movies something as great as these three movies
Jurassic Park and Back to the Future deserve more then honourable mentions.
Jurassic park literally has one great movie and 5 terrible ones
The original trilogy and Jurassic World were actually pretty good IMO. The series took a nosedive with the release of Fallen Kingdom.
Trade gay and furious for jurassic park
@@Scifi4life Hmm, while we're talking about missed honorable mentions Die Hard and Terminator got done dirty.
@@Sxecaba really?
My favorite DCEU films:
• Man of Steel
• Batman v Superman
• Zack Snyder’s Justice League
• Wonder Woman
• Aquaman
• Shazam
• The Suicide Squad
• Black Adam
LOL
Nice list 👍👍
Black Adam was cheesy and tried too hard
Love Man of Steel!
50 years later and Star Wars is still going at top speeds
Shame Disney is doing their level best to bring it down.
Until Disney destroyed it completely with it's unnecessary and unwanted sequel trilogy.
Big mistake.
*DARTH KENNEDY:* Everything is going according to my design. **steeples fingers together**
Unfortunately no it's not... The series is amazing but the movies are pathetic
Cough
Toy Story should have got an honorable mention (Pixar's biggest movie franchise), I'm surprised Terminator wasn't mentioned (Judgement Day is wildly popular), and not including Pirates of the Caribbean (mainly for the first 3 movies) is a crime.
The first two Terminators are amazing and iconic and Salvation is pretty good but the others bring it down
@@Creatxr9530 Yeah true.
And pirates of the Caribbean
The Terminator franchise definitely deserves a mention and the Robocop films.
Even if recent additions to the MCU haven’t been as awesome as Endgame, they still hold a special place in my heart because I am a huge Marvel fan
Spiderman: No Way Home is the best marvel movies since Endgame.
Nonetheless, they’re still awesome and amazing in their own way
But recent ones have. Spiderman 3 guardians 3 and the new shang chi movie were peak mcu. Loki was amazing too
I consider iron man to endgame a franchise, and everything afterward a separate one
you will definitely forget the End Game once Secret Wars gets adapted... And I'm talking about the one written by Jonathan Hickman the greatest comic book writer in the world...!!!!
Rocky (1976-)
Terminator (1984-)
RoboCop (1987-)
Die Hard (1988-2013)
Highlander (1986-2007)
In regards to the Highlander movies, I like to say "There can be only one!"
@@MisterE80 Star Wars.
Cause that OG movie trilogy has not only changed sci-fi cinema, but movie fandom for many years and generations.
And all that started way back in 1977.
Ummm where is Godzilla??? Older than all these franchises and still continues to be an absolute force
force how
@jimbo9208 most movies, still continues to have media come. Godzilla is a constant franchise
Not popular outside of Japan until the American 1999 film and 2014 reboot.
@endh8now False. Godzilla has been popular in the states since Gojira was repurposed into Godzilla. Rental stores (remember those?) had entire sections just for Godzilla and other creature features. The cultural impact the Big G had globally cannot be ignored: the environmental warnings of nuclear energy, the use of practical miniatures vs stop motion, and a rogues gallery of rival (or allied) creatures that no creature feature (or horror film) before or since has been able to match. There was Godzilla merchandising going strong throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, well into the 90s. Comic books, video games, novels, animations, it was everywhere. Godzilla was very much a household name very early on.
Lord of the Rings has to be higher. The impact on that story on all generations for 70+ years now cannot be understated
It deserves the first spot.

2) Mission impossible

Back to the Future deserves a spot simply because it knew when to bow out unlike other franchises on this list.
@CleetusVanDamme530 For the time being.
@@josh72456 just don't let Disney get a hold of the rights. Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis have said straight up that they'd allow a remake/reboot only over their dead bodies.
@CleetusVanDamme530 Musical already done though....
Austin Powers got me through high school and Resident Evil perfected the post credit scene.
You need to do a list of the best television series that went on to be film franchises. You left out Star Trek, but put in Mission Impossible which is a television series cinema reboot, like Star Trek, but that franchise used the original television casts, until the J J Abrams reboot. Bond started its life as books and radio shows, before Dr No.
Star Trek far surpasses Star Wars in every metric so leaving them off the list just shows its a junk list.
@@jacara1981 Probably not could get the rights to show it. 😁
They left out the Godzilla franchise 😑 the longest running movie franchise
And the Alien/Predator Franchise...
It wasn't that great from a global point of view, just great in Japan
Those bastards!
And the Gamera franchise.
Godzilla films aren’t completely successful though. More of a cult following save for the recent 4 Monsterverse films.
Godzilla should be on the list. It's the longest running franchise in history.
Captain America had a movie in 1944, Superman had a movie in 1951, plus you had the classic monsters as early as 1922 Nosferatu and 1931 Dracula.
What happened to the “Godzilla” franchise?? THE longest movie franchise in movie history!?
the title says BEST not most boring until recent years
Godzilla’s been around for 69 years also holds the record for most movies. Sorry you are right.
@@tmblack5 Yall really cant read the title headlines?? just because it has the most made doesn't make it the greatest franchises ever. I bet very few have seen in pree 1996 godzilla movies. The early ones were not "top films", or even close. Try again buster
@@gopackgo2507 I said you were right and nothing came out 1996 it came out the next year.
Both Batman, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Indiana Jones, The Middle Earth, Star Wars and Jurassic Park are my favorite Movie Franchises
Batman isn't a franchise. A franchise is when all the films are connected.
Classic American boy.
Back To The Future and Jurassic Park both deserve to be on the list.🎉
Jurassic park maybe but only because it still has room to grow. Back to the future is beloved but complete as it is.
@@kurtiskoch880 I still think Back To The Future belongs there, even though it’s only three. I don’t remember exactly, but there were a couple of things i thought were pure garbage. Just because there are 6-10 of them doesn’t make them less poisonous to me. I’m old enough to remember seeing the Planet of The Apes in the movie theater, all sequence were mediocre at best, but mostly sucked, Was it Tim Burton who did an abysmal reboot. The last three were decent, but the final 2 had moments that went on Forever and became a bore. I accept that as a choice but half of it was crap
I disagree with Back to the Future mostly because it's just a trilogy more than a full on franchise. Yes, technically it is a franchise, a duology would be considered a franchise, but this feel like it was made more for extended franchises, I do think Batman and Planet of the Apes shouldn't been included, The Dark Knight and Planet of the Apes Trilogies were great, but they are separate from the rest of the movies and aren't taking place in shared universes. They're reboots, Batman has had several. Their places should have been taken by Jurassic and Alien / Predator. Both opening movies are iconic and still hold up amazing today, Aliens is on par with Alien too.
@@Shadowgod1000 disagree all you want. I don’t remember them discussing the number of movies to be included. There were more than one I consider pure crap. They included them because it’s at least 7 movies. Quality seems to be irrelevant
@@batgurrl I mean the smallest franchise on there is Indiana Jones which is on its fifth movie I believe, but yes, they didn't specify length. Most of the franchises were considerably more extensive though.
I prefer Mission Impossible over James Bond and the other tbh, but I would admit that Marvel and Star Wars are the greatest franchises ever, due to their cultural impact.
You excited for the new MI?!
@@lynnevetter I am yes
The Bourne franchise deserves some love too. Also Star Trek
Star Trek!!
I think Star Trek being more TV series based than film based probably held it back. One of the greatest franchises overall though, just not one of the greatest film franchises. It probably should have gotten an honorable mention though.
What about Star Trek? 😲😳
Wrath of Khan is still a classic
Harry Potter should’ve been so much higher than 7. It’s possible the most consistent franchise of all time and every single film is good to amazing.
I guess you forgot of a tiny movie franchise called STAR TREK!!! Not even an honorable mention. Messed up 😢
No. 3, let's not forget the Wesley Snipes "Blade" movies that also played a big part in the holy trinity that made people get into the superhero genre again
1. Middle Earth Universe
2. Star Wars
3. Planet of the Apes
4. MCU
5. The Wizarding World
6. Batman
7. Spider-Man
8. Mission: Impossible
9. X-Men
10. Pirates of the Caribbean
Jurassic park should be been atleast 10th. Also, I can’t believe you ranked Indiana Jones higher than Harry Potter and LOTR. I don’t think most outside North America would agree.
My favorite Hollywood franchises are:
1. Marvel Cinematic Universe
2. Fast and Furious
3. Dark Knight Trilogy and Other DC movies
4. Mission Impossible
5. James Bond 007
All comes in greatest franchises of all times.
Can we just acknowledge the fect that almost every ainge one of these franchises named in this video were composed by John Williams and Hans Zimmer
Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are the reason I went for a film degree in college along with the creative writing minor. Granted, I haven't done film for a while, but I still love doing small projects and helping my husband eventually with doing wedding videos
#1 back to the future trilogy
Amazing trilogy but the 3rd was as good as the first two movies. It's nit bad but if you compare it with lord of the rings and star wars 3rd movie is not even close
The best way to open up this video is with the James Bond introduction!
Star Wars and other famous franchises are my all time favs.
LOTR will always be the best one
GODZILLA??? really one of if not the longest running movie franchise
I'm surprised there was no mention of Godzilla but the big misstep of missing Star Trek.
Not one horror movie franchise is recognized like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street or sci-fi franchises like Predator, Alien or Godzilla.
At the very least, alien franchise should have made it
Seems horror's always treated like the red-headed stepchild

Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings are my life. How can someone not put Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter on top 10 movie franchise lists? They're prime examples of how to pick the right cast, create great music, not look cheap with CGI and special effects, give us great camera work, etc. Even though Star Wars is my favorite franchise I consider Lord of the Rings the best trilogy overall and Harry Potter feels like the most comforting/balanced franchise in regards to how people feel.
They are 7th and 5th
@@hailparadise88 I should have worded my comment differently. I meant to say how can they not be on top 10 movie franchise lists.
My favorite movie franchises are:
#1-Star Wars.
#2-Marvel.
#3-Batman.
#4-John Wick.
#5-Harry Potter.
#6-Back To The Future.
#7-Indiana Jones.
#8-Transformers.
#9-Die Hard.
#10-The Fast And The Furious.
Spider-Tobey will always be #1 for me.
I would have thought Charlie Chan would have made the list. From 1931-1949 they made 44 films in the series with only three different actors playing the role. Warner Oland, Sidney Toler, and Roland Winter.
I'm surprised the Godzilla franchise didn't at least get a mention!
I am surprised that the none of the Star Trek movies didn't make the list.
both the Marvel and Star Wars movies are great but so are the spin-offs that they spawn in the form of a series where one can watch about three episodes of The Mandalorian and still feel like it was a movie that they just watched. The Batman series has spawned a number of animated Movies that are awesome in their own right
Damn, a few missed opportunities but still great, I woulda put

6) Pirates of the Caribbean
7) Batman/Spiderman
8) Harry Potter
9) Fast and Furious
10) Godzilla
HMS: Mission Impossible, Back to the Future, and the MCU
I’m so happy that the Jurassic franchise got an honourable mention. Screw the haters and critics.
Scream & Final Destination are bangers too.
Halloween and Friday the 13th
Where the fuck are Pirates of the Caribbean?! What's the point of the list if PotC it's not even a honourable mentions.
No way John Wick had greater impact than Captain Jack Sparrow
Best comment ever! I totally agree, but was not surprised it was not on here as Watchmojo hates Johnny Depp.
Where is Godzilla?
It only became popular outside Japan in 1999. With only 4 American films its not notable enough.
@@Scifi4life Still a world famous franchise, series, and character.
I like how that part they show before unveiling number of their lists😁 shows Luke like it's already giving us a hint what the number 1 would be...
The original Star Wars trilogy will always be true classics, and not to mention, the greatest trilogy of all time for movies.
That last statement is certainly debatable, I could throw in the Lord of the Rings, Dark Knight trilogy, Godfather trilogy, original Toy Story trilogy, and the Back to the Future trilogy and make a claim as to why it’s a better trilogy
LOTR smokes it
@@djnfbrhkelkondwvb6853 Godfather trilogy? Pretty sure the third film ruins that claim lol Toy Story isn’t a trilogy (Great films tho). Agree with the rest
If Avatar 3 was already out, that franchise would've been mentioned.

Star Wars and Marvel are easily the top 2 best movie franchises of all time.
Where are Die Hard and Star Trek in this list
Star Trek for sure!
Nearly 70 years and still going strong, literally dozens of movies including a new one coming this year, how the hell did Godzilla NOT GET EVEN A MENTION???
Pirates of the Caribbean should be on here for the first three movies alone
It had a great trilogy! So I wish they stopped after the 3rd too
Iron Man is my favorite character in the Avengers movies. It broke my heart the way Avengers End Game ended I still can't watch it again How could John Wick be a honorable mention? I'm baffled. Star Was had to be number 1. Good list.
You should also mentioned Terminator Franchise. It's a cult classic.

2) Batman
3) Pirates of the Caribbean
4) The godfather
5) Men in black
6) Aliens
7) A night at the museum
8) Nightmare
9) Star Trek
10) Transformer
Thank you for including Pirates of the Caribbean.
While I do like the Back to the Future franchise, I really think that Star Trek should have been on this list instead of it. Back to the Future only had 3 movies. Star Trek has had 10 movies and 12 television series, so far. I would say that is has been much more successful and impactful than Back to the Future.
Lotr at 5 is a crime.
Where’s GODZILLA!?!
STARE TREK! Ok not first but it should have been on the list.
Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, mission impossible, Star Wars are some of my personal favorite movie franchises of all time. But nothing and I mean no movie franchise or any franchise holds a candle to the lord of the rings it’s without a doubt the greatest of all time. The fact that they put it as number 5 smh it will always be my number 1 I’ve never seen a movie franchise that even comes close to it. It’s a masterpiece
As a trilogy, the Lord of the Rings is definitely number 1, beating out even the Star Wars OT. However, as an overall movie franchise it falls behind Star Wars and Marvel, due to the presence of higher quality additional films in those series. Middle Earth movies overall should not be ranked behind Indiana Jones, and probably not behind James Bond.
@@root13pie Star Wars and marvel is only more popular because they have more movies and shows and games and they are big on attracting everyone especially kids. As for lord of the rings it’s not for everyone and I understand that. But the quality of lord of the rings is unmatched in my opinion the acting, the story telling, the action, the beautiful scenery, the amazing music, everything is a masterpiece from it.
@@graymatter9431 Totally agree with you about the quality of Lord of the Rings. They are my favorite movies! But I can see why franchises with larger numbers of hit movies would rank higher overall. However, pick the 3 best movies from any other franchise and they won't be as good as the LOTR trilogy.
@@graymatter9431I know plenty of people that can't stand Star Wars. My girlfriend and a lot of my friends and family hate anything that has do with sci-fi.
@@avidfather1864 yeah I do to. I have 4 friends who never seen it and never want to. I honestly don’t understand why, Star Wars is an amazing franchise. With the exception of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced the most misses for the first time in its run.
Yes but the Infinity Saga had all decent to high quality films.
I would add Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to that list. It's not perfect but it does not deserve to be grouped with Eternals, Black Widow, and especially Thor: Love and Thunder.

@@purple1441 They are all decent, I mean Captain Marvel probably is the worst of them, but even that is decent, it's very lackluster compared to the rest of the collection, but overall it's a decent film.
@@purple1441 Unfortunately, it does belong to be in the same group as Eternals, and Love and Thunder. With Sam Raimi at the helm and the studio’s promise that it would be their first horror film, I was expecting tons of terror and creepiness, but its signature lightheartedness and turning Wanda into a villain for no real good reason broke that promise.
Rocky deserves to be in the top 5 in my opinion
I think an extremely close contender, while not a full franchise, the X franchise is one of the best I’ve seen. Both X and Pearl are spectacles, with them being different stylistically but remaining consistent in storytelling.
