I’m all for Richard Madden or Aaron Taylor Johnson to be fair. Henry Cavill, I’m more for being a villain in the series or reprising his role as Napoleon Solo again.
Henry cavil has been my number one choice for the part, as far as him turning 40 recently it all depends on if an age cut point will be added to the 30 something year old criteria or not since Dalton and Brosnan were 41/42 at the start of their tenures. If Cavil doesn’t get it then Richard Madden should be Bond.
Henry Cavill is the only real contender, at least right now he is the only one who can really do the character justice... He now almost has the age that those two you mentioned did when they started filming their first Bond movie. I think it's time - cast him NOW
It occurred to me after watching this video that maybe that's why Eon is dragging their feet so hard. Maybe they've already made up their mind to cast a much younger Bond this time, and if they just wait a couple more years, they can use "age" as an excuse why they didn't go with the obvious one who most people want: Henry Cavill. 😢
But that is a huge fuck up - Bond is meant to be late 30s early 40s. Look at every Bond since it started - the point of Bond was experience and knowledge - hence he got the mission where brute strength from youth wouldn't be enough.
If they go with a younger actor to portray Bond I think it’ll be a huge mistake. The age range of the actor to play this character should always remain 40-55 give or take. Considerably younger or older would make Bond less faithful
So refreshing to have a high profile Bond creator, like yourself advocate for Aidan Turner. You said it best. He checks ALL the boxes. His performance in “And Then There Were None” was like his Bond audition. And he has the essence of Sean Connery from his best Bond films. Thank you for bringing his name back into the discussion! Unfortunately, Turner himself seems to not want the fame and has made comments about “not being a fan” of the series and you know Barbie and Mikey G Wiz don’t take kindly to such things, but who knows! He turns 40 next month, so will that automatically take him out of the running? I’m with you, it would be a dream to have him become our next James Bond....thank you!
I remember Clive Owen back in the day said he wasn't too keen on the hype around Bond and it wasn't for him [even though I still see comments saying he should be Bond]. Sam Neil said something similar last year [stating the 'screen test' he took part in was his agents idea]. Maybe the role just isn't for Turner and there's no shame in that as it's going to define your life going forward. I would presume 40+ is probably 'out of the running' given about the only think which has been said is wanting a Bond for '10 years'.
Timothy Datlon.....for a series of audio Bond adventures. Whoever EON choose as the new film Bond will need to be young. Both to make the multi-film contract affordable and also to be able to appear in a few films at the rate EON (or Amazon) are willing to make them.
Henry Cavill is to todays audience what Pierce Brosnan was to 80 audiences. As for Idris Elba, while I think he’s a good actor, at his age he’d be better suited for M.
In a world where Henry Cavill, I don't think the question who will be the next James Bond should even arise The producers would be fools if they don't cast him
* That's gotta be rough being the person who has to cast the role of Bond for a reboot. The actor would have to be at least 5'10", around 30 years old(give or take a year), have an athletic build like Daniel Craig, and they would have to look, at least, a little bit like Ian Fleming's original concept of Bond(although Daniel Craig proved that you can actually have a blonde Bond, and make it work), but I agree with you that Henry Cavill would've made a pretty good Bond. Unfortunately he and Aidan Turner are around 40 years old now. They might be willing to do 3 Bond films at best. If we manage to find an actor who is between 29-31, there would be enough time for them to do *"7"* Bond films(like Sean Connery and Roger Moore).
We don't need another muscleman. Hiddleston/Fassbender would be perfect. Hiddleston in The Night Manager, and Fassbender in X-Men: First Class made me consider them.
I reckon the next Bond should be 35 or younger. Unless they pick up the production pace someone like Henry Cavill (as much as I'd like him) he'd be in his mid 40s by the time they cast and film a movie and would probably only be able to get at best three movies out of him. But then again Daniel Craig was in his late 30s when he became Bond and they managed to get 5 movies out of him
The number 1 pick would be Henry Cavill for sure I think he would be the best in the part of James Bond!! I have read every Jame bond book and have seen every Bond movie since the first one in 1962 when I was a kid, Dr. No! Putting Idris Elba as James Bond would be like putting him in a movie to play George Washington!
I mean, he did look Bondesque in Night Manager but that was 8 years ago. I think he's aged since then. I agree with DBF, he doesn't quite have the Bond look and less so nowadays.
Hardy is more in line with the Bond that Craig has created. He is time worn but strong still and funny and gritty and fit. Cavill that I LOVE is a bit too clean and suave, harks back to older Bonds where those traits were seen as representative in people's eyes.
I do wonder if Cavill was attracted to MI: Fallout because people couldn't see him as a 'dark' Bond and Walker gave him the opportunity to play something like it.
like u said, cavill is just like brosnan, had that bond feeling most love and like back then and now, most fans vould be happy as i was back in -94 when brosnan become bond
👍 Excellent overview of good actors. James Bond should always be: 1) A real Brit 2) A straight male 3) Middle aged (remember Bond was originally written as a WW2 Naval Commander operating as 007 in the early 1950s. 4) A suave, but tough personality (as in Connery, Brosnan, & Craig - remember he is a killer assassin) Any ACTOR who can display these characteristics would be suitable. I generally agree with your choices, particularly your suggestions on possible Bond villains.
For me, I personally think that Henry Cavill is a perfect choice for playing James Bond. He’s fit into it. My second, probably the controversial, is Scott Adkins. He can act, physically fits for the role and charming. Plus he is martial artist, that currently needs in the Bond franchise.
I dont like him, too stoik and wooden in his line delivery, but as Bond?!!! absolutly!thats probably Why he isnt going to be Bond!they killed the franchise with Phoebe Waller Bridges writing!its over with the masculine man!lol but its true!they could actually make two 00 agents, one is James Bond, agent 007, the other a person of colour or even gender!
No one mentions Tom Ellis who played Lucifer, but I think he would be great. Tall, handsome, fit and with a glimpse in his eyes. He can switch between charming and dangerous in a blink of the eye.
I think you are very wrong about Tom Hiddleston. He is a brilliant actor who looks very different in different roles and absolutely has all it needs for James Bond. You should see some of his non-MCU movies. The Night Manager, the Skull Island etc. Anyway, I think Tom Hiddleston is absolutely capable of playing an amazing James Bond.
No problem with Cavill, but Sam Heughan should be here for consideration as well. Agree on Taron Egerton, but I'm looking forward to seeing him as a later Bond.
Not only is Heughan actively lobbying for the role of 007, but is also promising to bring back some elements of Sir Roger Moore's Bond to the character, which would be sorta cool......
Honestly I wonder if some of the others people always linked are equally tired of it given they either aren't interested or know it's not happening but are told by there agent to keep quite.
I feel like Aidan Turner has a similar dark quality to that of Timothy Dalton. So if Turner gets the role, it would be cool if they finally made The Property of a Lady, and if it were a 90s period piece, all the elements that would have been in a third Dalton film could be envisioned. That's my pipe dream XD
@@paulthomas3247 I think it is related to Octopussy being the emerald egg as seen in the film but from what I've heard, it's also a title commonly speculated for unmade Bond films. I think it's definitely a cool one they should go with at some point :D
I love Idris Elba. He is great. But I worry, him as Bond, would more just be him as him rather than him as Bond. He is very likeable naturally, but I also think age might be against him.
I loved your picks and Henry Cavill's also my number 1 choice for the rol, I think he's absolutely perfect for it! I also agree on Cillian Murphy being a great choice to play a Bond villain. PS: Great choice of Bond theme to end the video on, A View to a Kill by Duran Duran is the best theme there is (it still is the only Bond theme to reach number 1 in the charts)!
Skyfall won a Best original song Oscar. A view to a kill was number two in the UK charts, Paul Hardcastle with the song "19" held number 1. Adele and Skyfall had a similar faith, since "Don't you worry child" with the Swedish House Mafia prevented Skyfall from reaching the number one spot. Skyfall also reached number 2 on the Hot 100, only one down from Duran Duran's A view to a kill, but several places above the two other Bond theme Oscar winners, written and performed by Sam Smith and Billie Eilish respectively. Therefore, objectively speaking, Skyfall is the biggest Bond hit of all time.
An outsider, but Will Poulter as he looked in the TV series Why Didn't They Ask Evans? would make a good 1960's Bond if EON chose to reboot the series in that period
I think the only one who should be the next James Bond is Tom Ellis (Lucifer). His portrail of the devil is so close to Roger Moore playing The Saint. And Moore will always be the best 007 for me.
Timothy Dalton said Bond should not be very young...he should be a man in his mid thirties to early forties, he is hardened by experience. Cavill fits the bill, he is the best thoroughbred in the race. If Eon doesn't pick him, he should start his own spy franchise and give them a double barreled finger salute.
Stuart Martin of Miss Scarlett and the duke fame would be my pick at the moment. Mid 30-ies known but not to well known and looks great in a tuxedo. He can be hard and gritty but also soft when need be.
If asked who'd I go with from this video, I go with Aidan or Richard. Regardless, whoever's gonna be the next Bond is going to be lucky number seven. _007_ if you will. 😉
Agreed. It seems virtually every casting decision now a days follows the same pattern: 'fan' anger when announced only for the actor [with a script tailored towards there strengths] to 'win everyone over' when they actually get to see the finished film.
I didn't pitch a fit when he was cast, figured I'd give him a chance. I went to see the first film and agreed with the fans throwing a fit. He is just not Bond material to me - too unattractive to be the suave, sexy agent. I guess Roger Moore is as unattractive as I'm willing to get and he was decent looking to me. I'll be back when they cast a new guy but I'm not watching anything with Daniel Craig.
Couldn’t agree more, Craig is nothing like Bond, he would make a good baddie. No time to die was on the other night, I watched a part of it as long as I could stomach it before giving up, I don’t know what it is, but it’s no Bond film.
For me the best man for the Bond franchise is Christopher Nolan... for directing, of course. I think he could pull off a trilogy based set on the 60s, mixing the gritty historical background, like in Dunkirk, with the fantastic sci-fi gardgets and villains, as in Interstellar or Batman with the Bondian flare he attempted to show in Tenet.
Interesting ideas. Who wouldn't want Christopher Nolan to helm a James Bond movie. But I just want another simple, entertaining Bond film, please. Taking a film franchise that has thrived 50 years since the 60s and returning him back in time just seems reductive. And why just a trilogy? After Bond is wrapped up in another "story arc box" then what? More chin stroking, more waiting? No thanks.
@@tomchris60 Well whoever comes up next will also star in 3 - 5 movies, and it would come with a soft 'reboot' (although that's not the best word to describe it) so I dont think the notion of a self-contained trilogy would be that farfetched. Craig basically has had a self-contained 'pentalogy'. As to going back to the 60s, it would be a fun change of pace but certainly not a must, as you say, Bond can keep thriving with present day settings
I'm going to throw James Norton's name into the ring. He can do dashing and suave, as he showed in the most recent version of War And Peace and he can do cunning and brutal, as he showed in Happy Valley.
Some great actors and it actually shows how hard of a decision this could be. I think a number of them could step it up. But I really want a lesser known actor. Fresh, no expectations because little history to go on. I hated when main stream Bond girls started showing up. It felt too commercial. I don't want that to happen to Bond himself. But this put a lot of things to think about out there, thanks!! Great video!!!
I absolutely concur that it's distracting to have Halle Berry or Sophie Marceau in a Bond film, but it goes back a fair ways in the franchise. Honor Blackman, Mary d'Abo, Caroline Bouchet, Tanya Roberts, and Brit Eckland were all pretty well known when they were cast, just to name a few. Okay, Tanya Roberts throws me out of the film as well. Let's not get started on Christmas Jones.
I would like a lessor known person too. I just find it such a lazy choice to go 'that guy was good in a spy movie, let's cut and paste that into Bond' when an 'up and comer' is much more of a 'surprise' and a fresh take.
@@paulthomas3247 Honor Blackman [who you mentioned] and Diana Rigg were both cast in Bond from TV's 'The Avengers'. Jill St. John was also well known before Bond. The 'lessor names' was more because Eon didn't like paying the actresses much money [Catherine Deneuve was told they only paid the lead female $80,000 which was 20% of her usual salary while Roger was getting $1 million], hence why models and unknowns [like Jane Seymore who would become big later] got it.
Aaron Taylor Johnson is the best choice from this list that the producers are looking to cast. Superman,Loki, and Luther are too famous or old. Madden is too boring. Hardy is too short and old.
@@jamesatkinsonja True. I'm not saying he can't do serious. I just think he would be a good pick if they decided to change direction to something a bit lighter.
There've been (more or less) authentic adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle SHERLOCK HOLMES stories, Agatha Christie MISS MARPLE and HERCULE POIROT stories, and others... I'd love to see Fleming's JAMES BOND... but more, I'd like to see someone finally go back and adapt Leslie Charteris SAINT stories from the beginning. And realize that Simon Templar is NOT a professional thief (retired or otherwise), he was always a crusader for justice. (That's what set him apart from THE LONE WOLF and BOSTON BLACKIE.)
Cavil was born to play Bond!! He is perfect for the role just as he was perfect as Superman! Richard Madden and Taron Eggerton both would make brilliant bonds too I feel they have the looks as well as the exper of playing action roles! The way Bond looks is made when they get the part! I too was so pissed off when Craig got the role as I couldn’t see a blonde hair blue eyed bond but OMG did Craig slated the part!! He is actually my second favourite after Sean Connery! So either of Richard or Tarron could be brilliant if they say Cavilis too old ! Luke Evans would brilliant a Bond but if they go for that age group I’m still a cavil fan!
Cavill should get it but Elba should play a 00 that is not a villain and does not die. Introduce him as a 001 or an ex 00 then give him a small screen spin off afterwards.
My sense is they will want to cast an actor who can do at least 4 fims. Maybe 5 so they won't go too old. I get the feeling they will want really strong continuity between each movie, almost a sequel because that is the way cinema is going. I dont think though the attempts to link up all the Craig bond movies really worked, it felt like retconing. I didnt buy that Skyfall was somehow part of Blofelds plan.
Henry Cavill just looks so much like a Bond, so charming and handsome. I kind of agree with you about Tom Hiddleston he's charming but he's kind of a scrawnier version of Daniel Graig. Idris Elba and Cillian Murphy I think would be amazing as Bond villains. Idris Elba perhaps as a new M or another agent.
Love this video. Tom Hardy did a great job in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I wish he was still young enough to play Bond. Trivia: Michael Billington (who was a regular in the old "UFO" TV series) was screen-tested for Bond more than any other actor.
Richard Madden would be a great 007, especially having a Scottish accent and Bond being Scottish/British. One actor I hope to see on the list of potential bond-actors is Charlie Cox. He is British, he can go along with women and his acting is phenomenal. Especially the action-scenes like the ones in Daredevil.
Too old and way too coloured. James Bond is white and no I'm not racist. Try inventing an original MI6 agent and not hijack an already long established one.

Maybe they've already made up their mind to cast a much younger Bond this time, and if they just wait a couple more years, they can use "age" as an excuse why they didn't go with the obvious one who most people want: Henry Cavill. 😢
Cavill is a clothes peg
I think they could just say its a money thing or wait until he's committed to another project if that were true.
@@garyv2498 In Cavill's case, he's never seems to be short of work and is always busy.
Aidan turner would be brilliant he just looks like bond and has them steely eyes
Cavill should tell DCU to kick rocks and do Bond.
Only Henry Cavill. He could return glamour of Bond
My top pick is Henry Cavill, though he did play a good villain in Mission Impossible: Fallout. He’s a great actor.
Henry Cavill is my only choice.
Timothy Datlon.....for a series of audio Bond adventures. Whoever EON choose as the new film Bond will need to be young. Both to make the multi-film contract affordable and also to be able to appear in a few films at the rate EON (or Amazon) are willing to make them.
I think Bond should be a Scotsman. Sam Heughan would be my choice.
Tom Ellis from "Lucifer" is my top pick as James Bond, but Henry Cavill would be next in line after him.
Henry Cavill is by far the best choice. Great actor and he just fits the part. He'd be perfect.
HENNRY CAVIL SOLL 07 MACHEN 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
We will keep our traditions regardless of how others not connected feel
Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be a fantastic Bond. He showed the coolness , comedy timing and intensity needed in Bullet Train and he’s age appropriate.
Nope.
Agreed, saw that movie and I warmed to idea of him playing the part.
Henry Cavill is to todays audience what Pierce Brosnan was to 80 audiences. As for Idris Elba, while I think he’s a good actor, at his age he’d be better suited for M.
In a world where Henry Cavill, I don't think the question who will be the next James Bond should even arise
The producers would be fools if they don't cast him
* That's gotta be rough being the person who has to cast the role of Bond for a reboot.
But then again Daniel Craig was in his late 30s when he became Bond and they managed to get 5 movies out of him
Cavill looks 35 though. I feel like 30 for Bond is too young. That said I don't think I would have had a problem with Cavill being cast as Bond at 30.
I wonder if some of those giving Higgleston the thumbs down are thinking Loki and haven't seen Night Manager?
Maybe that will change my mind!
I mean, he did look Bondesque in Night Manager but that was 8 years ago. I think he's aged since then. I agree with DBF, he doesn't quite have the Bond look and less so nowadays.
He's a really good actor but they probably would go for someone a bit rougher around the edges.
Hardy is more in line with the Bond that Craig has created. He is time worn but strong still and funny and gritty and fit. Cavill that I LOVE is a bit too clean and suave, harks back to older Bonds where those traits were seen as representative in people's eyes.
You know what, I have to agree there, as much as I would love to see Cavill as Bond, you make a damn good point with Hardy.
I agree!
James Bond should always be:
1) A real Brit
2) A straight male
3) Middle aged (remember Bond was originally written as a WW2 Naval Commander operating as 007 in the early 1950s.
4) A suave, but tough personality (as in Connery, Brosnan, & Craig - remember he is a killer assassin)
Any ACTOR who can display these characteristics would be suitable.
I dont like him, too stoik and wooden in his line delivery, but as Bond?!!! absolutly!thats probably Why he isnt going to be Bond!they killed the franchise with Phoebe Waller Bridges writing!its over with the masculine man!lol but its true!they could actually make two 00 agents, one is James Bond, agent 007, the other a person of colour or even gender!
and he's already shown that he can play James bond just look at him in the man from U.N.C.L.E
Adkins would make a good Batman, not Bond
*Aidan Turner looks more like a Bond villian than James Bond to me🤷🏼♀️*
Idris Elba could be our new M, I think he would be great in that role.
Aidan Turner is my top pick, hands down.
Cavill has my vote!❤
My too 👍
No one mentions Tom Ellis who played Lucifer, but I think he would be great. Tall, handsome, fit and with a glimpse in his eyes. He can switch between charming and dangerous in a blink of the eye.
Turner broke our hearts in the Hobbit as Killey
How many times does Elba need to say he won't play Bond until people believe him?
Honestly I wonder if some of the others people always linked are equally tired of it given they either aren't interested or know it's not happening but are told by there agent to keep quite.
Matt Bomer, from White Collar.
I think Tom Hiddleston would be a mesmerizing and cunning 007
Henry Cavill is the obvious choice imo but I’d totally be happy with Aaron Taylor-Johnson after his Bullet Train performance
If Henry Cavill is not James Bond then we riot
I have never seen a James Bond movie, but if Henry Cavil is the next James Bond l will definitely see it!!
Deam you have missed a lot.
Get lost
Hiddleston has more of a bond quality compared to Tom Hardy. But well done finding some of the more ‘weird’ photos of him to make your case.
It shows how time marches on that script is now over 30 years old!
Isn't The Property of a Lady the first portion of Octopussy? Not that they couldn't do it as the main plot.
@@paulthomas3247 I think it is related to Octopussy being the emerald egg as seen in the film but from what I've heard, it's also a title commonly speculated for unmade Bond films. I think it's definitely a cool one they should go with at some point :D
I always felt Dalton was ahead of his time, in that he was much more serious than the other actors. No one else was like that until Daniel Craig.
Dalton was the worst 😅
Stay true to the vision of the character’s creator, Ian Fleming.
What about Sam Heughan ,from Outlander ? He gives me Roger Moore vibes...
If they were going with the first black Bond, they missed their chance with Colin Salmon who was active during the Brosnan era.
I love Idris Elba. He is great. But I worry, him as Bond, would more just be him as him rather than him as Bond. He is very likeable naturally, but I also think age might be against him.
Tom Ellis would be a great bond!!
@@Tvjunkieful12 Well aren't you a bundle of fun...
For me, Nobody Does it Better was the best.
the last guy can be a henchman for 3 bond films I can totally see that just like jaws
Henry Cavill. No doubt.
An outsider, but Will Poulter as he looked in the TV series Why Didn't They Ask Evans? would make a good 1960's Bond if EON chose to reboot the series in that period
Idk if you ever heard the audiobook for Living Daylights, but Tom Hiddleston narrated. Very smooth
I think the only one who should be the next James Bond is Tom Ellis (Lucifer). His portrail of the devil is so close to Roger Moore playing The Saint. And Moore will always be the best 007 for me.
I’d go for James Norton. Within Eon’s age range, great actor and lives a normal life off screen.
James is good, but Henry has the sense of humour as well as a serious side.
Im manifesting for Aiden Turner to be the next James Bond 007
Btw I think Idris Elba would make a great M instead of Bond
Cavill, Henry Cavill 007
I remember when “fans” threw a fit when Craig got cast because of how he looked.
Crazy how times don’t change.
Agreed. It seems virtually every casting decision now a days follows the same pattern: 'fan' anger when announced only for the actor [with a script tailored towards there strengths] to 'win everyone over' when they actually get to see the finished film.
I was disappointed when they cast Daniel… how wrong could I have been. Casino Royale was superb.
I was disappointed when they cast Craig, and how right I was, Casino Royal was awful.
Best choice - Sam Heughan.
Bro will sneak in time travel💀
I'm surprised it's dragging on so long, some of the actors will be too old soon.
After watching Citdel… Madden would be awful imo. The show was very average and he didnt help it.
The next Bond actor will be younger than me! This will be the first time this happens. It boggles the mind.
I think as far as age is concerned, it’s worth keeping in mind that Sean Connery was only 31 when filming Dr. No.
And Lazenby was 30 for OHMSS.
Another name to consider is Theo James from Divergent and The White Lotus.
I totally think Tom Hiddleston would be fantastic.
I have Always Imagined Henry Cavil as bond.
Aaron Taylor Johnson is the best choice from this list that the producers are looking to cast. Superman,Loki, and Luther are too famous or old. Madden is too boring. Hardy is too short and old.
I think Hiddleston would be great if they decided to change the tone of the movies to a Roger Moore type vibe again.
Night Manager was pretty serious and he did well in that show.
@@jamesatkinsonja True. I'm not saying he can't do serious. I just think he would be a good pick if they decided to change direction to something a bit lighter.
What do you think about advice Quentin Tarantino gave EON, to faithfully adapt Ian Fleming's books instead of doing remakes of the old Bond movies?
The radio 4 series has done 'faithful adaptions' which is probably the closest to that idea.
I would love to see Cavell to be Bond!
Aidan Turner is my favourite choice
Love this video. Tom Hardy did a great job in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I wish he was still young enough to play Bond. Trivia: Michael Billington (who was a regular in the old "UFO" TV series) was screen-tested for Bond more than any other actor.
I would like to see Henry Cavill as James Bond
If there was ever a film franchise that needed to be put to bed, its JB007. Enough already.
In the past 30 years we've had GoldenEye and Casino Royale and that's it.
p.s. Star Wars too.
Sadly the best choices on this list are too old at 40+
Cavill would have been amazing ten years ago
Agreed, a lot of the people linked for years are simply too old now. I'd love to see a 'under 35' list of different names who could be in the running.
if they pick Edris will you all boycott 007 movies moving forward?
Richard Madden would be a great 007, especially having a Scottish accent and Bond being Scottish/British.
One actor I hope to see on the list of potential bond-actors is Charlie Cox. He is British, he can go along with women and his acting is phenomenal. Especially the action-scenes like the ones in Daredevil.
Madden is a mincer...wimpy....looks gay
I agree.He has the 'quality' & looks& charisma.
I think Elba is just way too old at this point.
Too old and way too coloured.
James Bond is white and no I'm not racist.
Try inventing an original MI6 agent and not hijack an already long established one.
Rewatching this video I found your bet for Aiden Turner very compelling. You're right, he has this special classic Bond flair.
Sam Heughan would be the obvious Sean Connery inheritor
And who wants somebody similar to Sean Connery? 🤣🤣🤣
Aidan has Dalton's persona and vibes
