This video was a big help as I just did a case swap on my 800 G1 MB. The PSU adapter worked like a charm but I do have the USB warning when first booting but considering I leave the system on all day and the USB ports work fine, it is just a once a day annoyance. Other than that it is a sweet to have the MB in a much nicer case with a 600W PSU. I should have done this long ago. And it worked out even better as the thermal paste was getting pretty dry and needed to be replaced on the CPU and cooler. Thanks for the great video and all of the information on doing the swap!

I love, love love using HP ProDesk 400 (G1/G2) and 280 (G1/G2) upgrades. They take regular ATX power supplies (no adapters needed), support E3 Xeons and are EASILY turned into gaming PCs. Sometimes for longer GPUs, I dremel out a tiny piece of metal (second hard drive cage).
I don't case swap, because it's not worth it imo (not until GPU prices allow me to turn them into $500 systems again). Those $250-300 systems with a $20 PSU and old GCN 1.0 cards are great entry level systems for a lot of kids.

@@ela312 The motherboard is HP proprietary product that uses 6 pin to power it. A normal PSU uses 24 pin to power motherboards, and you might get a error when using a non HP PSU. You can use a 24 to 6 pin adapter that is intended for HP products and specifiy what PC model it is for, you can search for "PSU Main Power 24 Pin to 6 Pin Adapter Cable 30cm for HP EliteDesk 800" and use whatever PSU aslong as you have the correct adapter.

I'm doing exactly this, with the same power adapter, but when i try to turn on the computer all i get is a green blinking light. The only hint i have is a review with a similar issue that mentioned the standby signal being wrongfully sent, but didn't provide a solution for that.
The HP I'm moving to a bigger case is a HP Elitedesk 800 G1 SFF, model number TPC-F046-SF. If i just plug the oriiginal PSU, the computer boots just fine, however if using the comeap adaptor and a normal PSU:
When turning it on, it doesn't spin fans or anything, all you get is a green blinking led on the motherboard, steady and continous kind of blinking. The idea was to add a spare GPU i had to it, which is a HD7970, and the test have been done with 3 different PSUs and with or without the GPU, same exact result.

the bigger case just makes it so much easier to work on plus you can cram in more drives with a sata card - the 4th gen intel is decent and ddr3 is cheap - hp is solid - refurb value king - it blows away sbc.soc boards - no comparison - i think getting boards is best way to go - people probably want z440 v2 for max performance? the z420 is an option as well - can run 256gb ram

@DLM tech garage different motherboards have different ways to do it depending on age of bios. Google change bios logo. Should point you to the right direction. Definitely better to change it if in a new case to hide the branding. Also ways to change the windows 10 logo and add custom startup sound. For example, I made arcade machine/pc setup for the nephews and had a playstation logo and startup theme when you turn it on, then had autorun to hyperspin on startup. Always little quick things that will turn a great job over the edge to professional level kinda deal. Someone can cut down a tree perfectly but what makes them the best is when they do the clean up at the end compared to someone who leaves a mess. Same deal here

You seem to know your HP’s really well. Any idea if Prodesk G1 power supply works in Prodesk G2? The cases on them looks almost exactly same as this EliteDesk.
I was planning to make mashup upgrade with most of the parts other than MB+CPU coming from G1. I only need to buy DDR4 ram to the G2 if I proceed with my plan and have also a narrow GPU for it. Those HP’s are dirt cheap because G1 MB has some issues and G2 is missing half of the parts that I would get from G1 so it would be great combo if only the PSU plays nicely with the G2 motherboard…

You're better off buying an empty machine and populating it with 8gb DIMMs. In that respect HP really ripped off businesses by giving them four 4gb DIMMs, instead of two 8gb DIMMs. And the bogus power connector - there was no call for that.
