The only cards that go in safe limits are the GT1030 and the GT 730 unless you get another PSU which supports higher Wattage output (you might need to swap out the case too) and then run a full sized card instead which draws power directly from the PSU instead of relying on the power from the PCIe slot.

I recently built a mid range matx small tower that is purely for current games, 12G i5, RTX4070, 16GB D4 3200, 1tb gen4 nvme. Will be slapping a 2tb gen3 in there too soon.

This is just part of the CPU architecture, not really something that needs to be explicitly enabled. You can check the current CPU speed in Task Manager for example. Try and run something heavy and check the variation clock speed to verify.
Hello,,as you mentioned, it will not be easy to replace its psu,, can you do a video on how can we change the power supply with a standard one, without changing the motherboard?
In the standard case, you need a specific HP PSU as a standard form factor does not physically fit. In another case, it should work to use another PSU but you would need a convertor from the standard ATX to the HP-proprietary connector. All in all, if you plan these kind of things, it might be more interesting to sell the whole PC and buy another in the tower version (or a custom PC)
What kind of screws did you use for standoffs? I'm planning on building a server in this machine, but the information on that appears frustratingly scarce.
I’m interested in adding an extra SSD drive or two. The connector with multiple plugs doesn’t have SATA connectors. Do I need to buy an adaptor? To connect an extra SATA SSD? Thank you for the video!
To each drive you will need power and data. Power comes from the black connector on the motherboard (with red/yellow/black wires), data needs to be connected to the blue SATA ports on the motherboard. If you don't have enough power connectors, you can easily split that. For additional SATA ports, you can install an extra controller in one of the PCIe slots.

HI, i'm thinking in one of this machines to a home NAS with Unraid, i would use the NVME drive and two 3,5 HD to storage, is it possible to have two 3,5 Hard Drives on this thing? Thank you
A typical HD uses around 10W so I don't think that would be an issue. If my machine works fine with that 1050Ti, those hard disks should definitely work :)
It's definitely intended for being put horizontally (no stands on the sides) and it feels sturdy/strong enough to handle a proper weight. A classic CRT might not be the best idea but even a decent sized LCD should be fine to my idea.
Great video and good PC , i need some help, my question is, what Graphic i need for play Gta V and Left 4 dead 2 as maximum in this pc? Thanks for reeding
As you are limited to low profile GPUs and limited in power provided, a GTX 1650 would be the best choice. This will result in proper performance for the games you mentioned as well.
Purchaed one of these PC recently for AUD $160. Assembled in March 2018. 'A' grade condition. 7th gen i5 cpu. 20 second boot on the supplied 1Tb HybridHD. 8-9 seconsd boot on a SSD. Installed Windows 11. Needs a graphics card to play games.
Hi... Great Video ❤ detailed assemble overview... I'm using the same machine... Can u please upload a short video on CMOS battery replacement... Because in this machine the way is different from Rest 😔
There is only a single slot on the motherboard that works for storage. Another option, if you want NVMe is to add a PCIe card with NVMe slot. Or if you have enough with the performance of a SATA SSD, you can also add one of those.
Two times 3,5" would be the absolute maximum. There is no other space to leave them and, since the DVD-drive is a slim model, even removing that won't help you I'm afraid.
does this have an upgraded PSU? I heard the 1050 Ti has too much power and the most it could take is a 1030 LP . I also seen a 1030 LP video where buddies computer wouldnt run it. If it runs a 1050 ti I'd probably put one in it.
This was the standard power supply as far as I know. It is 180W and a 1050Ti would require around 75W. This leaves enough for the rest of the components.
Hello friend, i have this machine but it's the Tower version. My question is, can i change the CPU cooler into a Tower cpu cooler (ID Cooling SE 902)? Thankyou
As far as I know there are no low profile variants of RX 580 cards. That means they will not physically fit into this case. Also, an RX 580 can draw up to 185W, which is way too much for the power supply.
Can you use this EliteDesk model to run VMs, and do out-of-band management? What upgrades do I need to make for these to work? Or which micro server is ideal for these capabilities?
The specs allow it to run a bunch of VMs, depending a bit on your needs and how resource-hungry they will be. Out-of-band management is not so easy. You could install a second network card but if the host-OS is down, you would still not be able to reach it. The approach I have for a regular PC which I used as a NAS is to have it connected to a smartplug (which I can remotely enable/disable) and set the BIOS to always boot after power loss. Thay way, in case the machine is locked up, I can at least remotely reboot it :)

In my version, the PSU was 180W only. A 1050 Ti would consume around 75W so should be doable with the rest of the components. Looks pretty much the same as I had in mine so I don't expect any problems for you with a 1050Ti.
Hello, very good video. A few weeks ago I got this same equipment, I am happy with it, it is fast and fluid. I bought it with an i5 6600, 16Gb RAM. Some GPUs have been recommended to me but they exceed the permissible limit of watts allowed by PCIE. Have a nice day.

As far as I know, a 1060 needs at least one additional power plug. You might be able to supply enough with a convertor from regular moles to 6-pin. A 1050 Ti, like I had in it, doesn't require this.

This is a tough one to answer. Depending on the game and resolution you are playing ok, if you are tight with the 16GB of memory, then increasing that will boost performance. On the other hand if you are not running out, a better CPU is a better choice. I'd say go for the i7 8700, monitor memory consumption and upgrade if needed. I recently built a mid range matx small tower that is purely for current games, 12G i5, RTX4070, 16GB D4 3200, 1tb gen4 nvme. Will be slapping a 2tb gen3 in there too soon.
Great job thanks for sharing
where did you get the standoff screws for the HDD? are they proprietary?
love the video but one thing i can not find is a way to boost clock the cpu i have a similar system the 705 G5 with a ryzen pro 5 3400G says it can boost clock to 4.2hz but shows no way to do and the bios doesn't have the option
This is just part of the CPU architecture, not really something that needs to be explicitly enabled. You can check the current CPU speed in Task Manager for example. Try and run something heavy and check the variation clock speed to verify.
@@jensdbe Thanks just learning this system making it into a emulation pc
Hello,,as you mentioned, it will not be easy to replace its psu,, can you do a video on how can we change the power supply with a standard one, without changing the motherboard?
In the standard case, you need a specific HP PSU as a standard form factor does not physically fit. In another case, it should work to use another PSU but you would need a convertor from the standard ATX to the HP-proprietary connector.
All in all, if you plan these kind of things, it might be more interesting to sell the whole PC and buy another in the tower version (or a custom PC)
@@jensdbe your response is highly appreciated
What kind of screws did you use for standoffs? I'm planning on building a server in this machine, but the information on that appears frustratingly scarce.
I have a question about powersupply, is there a 300w or more powersupply that is compatible with this computer ?
TWR is 500W
I’m interested in adding an extra SSD drive or two. The connector with multiple plugs doesn’t have SATA connectors. Do I need to buy an adaptor? To connect an extra SATA SSD? Thank you for the video!
To each drive you will need power and data. Power comes from the black connector on the motherboard (with red/yellow/black wires), data needs to be connected to the blue SATA ports on the motherboard. If you don't have enough power connectors, you can easily split that. For additional SATA ports, you can install an extra controller in one of the PCIe slots.
@@jensdbe Thank you for the info. I have a G2 elitedesk and that one has SATA connectors. So I was just confused when I saw the pigtail with 3 non-Sata type connectors. Thanks again! I guess I also need to find some brackets to hold the drives into the housing slots. The PC I bought just has the windows boot disk on M.2. I’m really impressed it is very fast.
New subscriber looking for advice..
The PC spec in question details are: HP Elitedesk 800 G3 Small Form Factor PC. Intel Core i7-7700 processor. 16GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM. 500GB x2=1tb SSD
Windows 11
Samsung 860 EVO NAND-SSD. Optical disc drive. Built in 1Gbps ethernet port. No wireless card but Wi-Fi dongle. Integrated graphics
There are 2 free RAM slots and the motherboard supports 64GB RAM
My question is would upgrading the RAM make it better eg.. 32 RAM 3200 mhz with like a crucial 32gb secondhand??
And also
Would putting in a dedicated graphics card like a Msi gt 1030 secondhand help it too??
Trying to understand how it can be improved, I don’t know if it would cope with music software like ableton and gaming well or not, please could you help me understand if these ideas to make it better would be a good idea or not? If it would work? And if it would be capable for these things?
Sorry if I didn’t word it well I just tried to give as much info as I could.
I absolutely loved watching this video and will continue to watch videos here thank you for posting and look forward to your reply 🙂👍🏻
hi, great video! Currenly i have hp g6 800 sff and do you have a video for this model to change to another master cooler casing ?
No video on that but I'd be surprised if it can be done. It's typically a custom motherboard form factor that doesn't fit in a standard case format.

That should be enough, yes.
Good video. Where do you get the standoff screws for the HDD?
Not sure where to buy them. I still had some laying around from dismantling another HP machine I think.
Thanks for the informative video.
I'm trying to get a new graphics card for this computer, but basically every single 1050 I find has the DVI port in a different spot. Is that a problem? Will a graphics card with the DVI port in a different area still work on this computer?
That shouldn't be an issue at all. Doesn't really matter as long as tou have a low profile card.
HI, i'm thinking in one of this machines to a home NAS with Unraid, i would use the NVME drive and two 3,5 HD to storage, is it possible to have two 3,5 Hard Drives on this thing? Thank you
How many watts in boite alimentation Is it enough for that compilation
Would that be possible to put 2 3.5in hdd in this machine? There are 3 sata ports... would power be sufficient?
A typical HD uses around 10W so I don't think that would be an issue.
If my machine works fine with that 1050Ti, those hard disks should definitely work :)
Nice video! I m thinking to upgrade my i7-7700 but dont find any path. Any idea?
i7 7700 should work fine as it originally also came with this CPU
jensd_be any better CPU can be used on the motherboard?
@@minervali9436 i7-7700 is the highest it came with from the factory/HP. Better might work but needs to be tested in order to find out.
oh so it's safe to put the monitor on top of the case, i was worried but i see it works fine

As you are limited to low profile GPUs and limited in power provided, a GTX 1650 would be the best choice. This will result in proper performance for the games you mentioned as well.

What’s the rating of the psu?
It has an 80 PLUS Platinum - 180 W power supply
Hi, thank you for this video, one small question, can I add one more ssd nvme, to get two ssd?
There is only a single slot on the motherboard that works for storage. Another option, if you want NVMe is to add a PCIe card with NVMe slot. Or if you have enough with the performance of a SATA SSD, you can also add one of those.
@@jensdbe Thank you for your prompt response
Thank you for that do you know if there is a f usb connection?
There is a front USB connector on the motherboard, no header to connect something else externally though.
Thank you for the video. Do you think there is a space to put 4 3.5" HDDs? I don't have a separate GPU in the case. Thanks
Thankyou
I've read in their docs that the PCI express slot is limited to 35w. Can it handle that GPU?
Hello, does it have connection/pin for extra external fan? And strip led, Where can i connect it?
Any ideas how to install a frontal cooler fan to intract air? Temperatures 90°C while gaming is the only issue of this HP g3 prodesk design
I don't really see how a fan could fit in the front. I guess for proper gaming this case is just not big enough.
Well technical documentation said all the 2 pcie 16 have only 35w max. That's not true so, it deliver true 75 watt since you plug a 1050ti
True, best way to test is to just try it (and hope it doesn't go wrong :) )
whats the power supply wattage and were you able to reuse the ram stick
The power supply in mine is/was 180W. I wa able to reuse the stick without issues.
Very useful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Can i fit the amd rx 580 in that pc
As far as I know there are no low profile variants of RX 580 cards. That means they will not physically fit into this case. Also, an RX 580 can draw up to 185W, which is way too much for the power supply.
Boa noite! Meu pc é o mesmo, no entanto, com i5 6500 e 8GB de Ram, 2TB de HDD e 1TB de SSD M2, consigo realizar o upgrade com a Nvidia 1050Ti?
You can upgrade to a 1050To but I would recommend a GTX 1650 for better performance with a similar energy requirement
So I wonder
I'm looking at a 6th generation i5 version and I wonder if it has a nvme slot on the motherboard

I have been seeing some comments about which GPU would be ideal with this equipment, but my concern is that the maximum consumption that the PCIE x16 port allows is 35 watts. Now, according to your criteria, which GPU would be the ideal? Taking into account that the PSU is an 80 Plus Platinum 180 watts. Some GPUs have been recommended to me but they exceed the permissible limit of watts allowed by PCIE. Have a nice day.
A GTX1650 low profile is what I would recommend. I had a 1050Ti in there and that worked without any issues.

It's generally easier to upgrade the memory in comparison with the CPU as that has to be replaced.
