Add more storage, a gpu and if possible (Ik it’s difficult) upgrade psu so that you can have potential for different graphics cards. Also should probably give it some fresh thermal paste and make sure everything is plugged in and seated correctly
A typical HD uses around 10W so I don't think that would be an issue. If my machine works fine with that 1050Ti, those hard disks should definitely work :)
Hello,,as you mentioned, it will not be easy to replace its psu,, can you do a video on how can we change the power supply with a standard one, without changing the motherboard?
In the standard case, you need a specific HP PSU as a standard form factor does not physically fit. In another case, it should work to use another PSU but you would need a convertor from the standard ATX to the HP-proprietary connector. All in all, if you plan these kind of things, it might be more interesting to sell the whole PC and buy another in the tower version (or a custom PC)
Two times 3,5" would be the absolute maximum. There is no other space to leave them and, since the DVD-drive is a slim model, even removing that won't help you I'm afraid.
HI, i'm thinking in one of this machines to a home NAS with Unraid, i would use the NVME drive and two 3,5 HD to storage, is it possible to have two 3,5 Hard Drives on this thing? Thank you
It's definitely intended for being put horizontally (no stands on the sides) and it feels sturdy/strong enough to handle a proper weight. A classic CRT might not be the best idea but even a decent sized LCD should be fine to my idea.
There is only a single slot on the motherboard that works for storage. Another option, if you want NVMe is to add a PCIe card with NVMe slot. Or if you have enough with the performance of a SATA SSD, you can also add one of those.
I live in Australia & saw one on marketplace for $145 with the 7700 & 8gb ram & 256gb nvme drive, thinking of building an emulation machine with a sparkle intel arc a380 6gb LP but have to find out which psu this one has first. I recently built a mid range matx small tower that is purely for current games, 12G i5, RTX4070, 16GB D4 3200, 1tb gen4 nvme. Will be slapping a 2tb gen3 in there too soon.
I’m interested in adding an extra SSD drive or two. The connector with multiple plugs doesn’t have SATA connectors. Do I need to buy an adaptor? To connect an extra SATA SSD? Thank you for the video!
To each drive you will need power and data. Power comes from the black connector on the motherboard (with red/yellow/black wires), data needs to be connected to the blue SATA ports on the motherboard. If you don't have enough power connectors, you can easily split that. For additional SATA ports, you can install an extra controller in one of the PCIe slots.
@@jensdbe Thank you for the info. I have a G2 elitedesk and that one has SATA connectors. So I was just confused when I saw the pigtail with 3 non-Sata type connectors. Thanks again! This is just part of the CPU architecture, not really something that needs to be explicitly enabled. You can check the current CPU speed in Task Manager for example. Try and run something heavy and check the variation clock speed to verify.
Can you use this EliteDesk model to run VMs, and do out-of-band management? What upgrades do I need to make for these to work? Or which micro server is ideal for these capabilities?
The specs allow it to run a bunch of VMs, depending a bit on your needs and how resource-hungry they will be. Out-of-band management is not so easy. You could install a second network card but if the host-OS is down, you would still not be able to reach it. The approach I have for a regular PC which I used as a NAS is to have it connected to a smartplug (which I can remotely enable/disable) and set the BIOS to always boot after power loss. Thay way, in case the machine is locked up, I can at least remotely reboot it :)
You should repaste the thermal paste on the GPU? and see if that helps cooling temps???...and maybe add at least one more case fan to draw air past the gpu?? both would be interesting to see if that helps? do one at a time of course?? 🇨🇦🤓✌️
does this have an upgraded PSU? I heard the 1050 Ti has too much power and the most it could take is a 1030 LP . I also seen a 1030 LP video where buddies computer wouldnt run it. If it runs a 1050 ti I'd probably put one in it.
This was the standard power supply as far as I know. It is 180W and a 1050Ti would require around 75W. This leaves enough for the rest of the components.

Hello, very good video. A few weeks ago I got this same equipment, I am happy with it, it is fast and fluid. I bought it with an i5 6600, 16Gb RAM. I have been seeing some comments about which GPU would be ideal with this equipment, but my concern is that the maximum consumption that the PCIE x16 port allows is 35 watts. Now, according to your criteria, which GPU would be the ideal? Taking into account that the PSU is an 80 Plus Platinum 180 watts. Some GPUs have been recommended to me but they exceed the permissible limit of watts allowed by PCIE. Have a nice day.
@@hectorquintero1991 Hello, at the moment I have not added any graphics card to the equipment. I only use the integrated one, in my case it is the Intel HD Graphics 530
It's very hard to find a 1060 or 1060Ti in low profile that would fit. Also power demand would be an issue I think. A conventional PSU will not fit. the PSU and connectors on the motherboard are fully customised. If you're looking for this kind of upgrade, I guess selling the PC and getting something else as a base would be the easiest :)
You’re better off buying an HTPC case that will accommodate the components. Just to give you an idea, you’ll need to map out a layout for a riser and stand-off to mount the GPU horizontally. As far as the PSU, you would need to cut out an upper or lower portion of the case to allow for dimensions which can be covered with a fabricated tray. The real problem is the dimensions again which leaves ITX as the only solution. So now if you don’t have a rear I/O knockout, you’ll need to create an access for your new shield. Finally your new board will need to be wired to the front I/O. You can buy header connectors, and trace the pin out to splice and join the two. The PSU will be the hardest, and to keep a cleaner look you’ll have to install elevated feet so that the recessed tray doesn’t ruin the aesthetics.
Great video and good PC , i need some help, my question is, what Graphic i need for play Gta V and Left 4 dead 2 as maximum in this pc? Thanks for reeding
As you are limited to low profile GPUs and limited in power provided, a GTX 1650 would be the best choice. This will result in proper performance for the games you mentioned as well.
I have this same system with a GTX 1050, and it is running very loudly and the computer turns off with a small shake from my table. Is there anything I can do to make my computer quieter and more stable?
I'd check the fans, maybe replace them with a silent version. After time, some of these tend to become pretty loud, as was the case with me as well. Also removing dust and replacing the thermal past could help.
Depends which version you have. As far as I see, the SFF has only a 250W power supply so maybe something like a GTX 1650 low profile would work . Hard to tell as I haven't looked very much into that newer one and no hands on.
Hmm, that's interesting and indeed the spec sheet lists a maximum of 35W for the x16 slot. I didn't have any issues with power limitation as far as I could see.

After that i tried to lower the cpu power draw, disabled the turbo and thtrottled cpu to 2.5ghz speed with the multiplier, results were the same, it wasnt problem with the psu as the sff system was drawing max 100-120w under load, yet the desktor was drawing 150+ watts so there it was the measured difference 20-30 watts and propably the reason was gpu not getting enough juice. Model of your GPU please
I've read in their docs that the PCI express slot is limited to 35w. Can it handle that GPU?
i have the Prodesk version that comes with a dedicated GPU too, its bang for the buck work machine
Would that be possible to put 2 3.5in hdd in this machine? There are 3 sata ports... would power be sufficient?
@@jensdbe your response is highly appreciated
Hello, does it have connection/pin for extra external fan? And strip led, Where can i connect it?
Nice video! I m thinking to upgrade my i7-7700 but dont find any path. Any idea?
i7 7700 should work fine as it originally also came with this CPU
jensd_be any better CPU can be used on the motherboard?
@@minervali9436 i7-7700 is the highest it came with from the factory/HP. Better might work but needs to be tested in order to find out.
Any ideas how to install a frontal cooler fan to intract air? Temperatures 90°C while gaming is the only issue of this HP g3 prodesk design
I don't really see how a fan could fit in the front. I guess for proper gaming this case is just not big enough.
whats the power supply wattage and were you able to reuse the ram stick
The power supply in mine is/was 180W. I wa able to reuse the stick without issues.
Thank you for that do you know if there is a f usb connection?
There is a front USB connector on the motherboard, no header to connect something else externally though.
So I wonder
I'm looking at a 6th generation i5 version and I wonder if it has a nvme slot on the motherboard
Where do i get mounting screws to add an SSD to this PC? Thanks.
Thank you for the video. Do you think there is a space to put 4 3.5" HDDs? I don't have a separate GPU in the case. Thanks
Thank you
Hello, thank you for your content. Is the stock PSU enough fir the 1050TI and additional HDD?
That should be enough, yes.
oh so it's safe to put the monitor on top of the case, i was worried but i see it works fine
It's definitely intended for being put horizontally (no stands on the sides) and it feels sturdy/strong enough to handle a proper weight. A classic CRT might not be the best idea but even a decent sized LCD should be fine to my idea.
Please tell me the name of the program in the right corner to see the temperatures. Thank you
I'm using Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS) for that
Is the cpu cooler upgrade?
Hi, thank you for this video, one small question, can I add one more ssd nvme, to get two ssd?

I guess I also need to find some brackets to hold the drives into the housing slots. The PC I bought just has the windows boot disk on M.2. I’m really impressed it is very fast.
Now I am confident that I can go for an RX 6400 for this PC since it only draws 55w compared to 75w in 1050. Thanks for the video bud ❤

love the video but one thing i can not find is a way to boost clock the cpu i have a similar system the 705 G5 with a ryzen pro 5 3400G says it can boost clock to 4.2hz but shows no way to do and the bios doesn't have the option
This is just part of the CPU architecture, not really something that needs to be explicitly enabled. You can check the current CPU speed in Task Manager for example. Try and run something heavy and check the variation clock speed to verify.
@@jensdbe Thanks just learning this system making it into a emulation pc
@@jensdbe Thank you for the response !
You should repaste the thermal paste on the GPU? and see if that helps cooling temps???...and maybe add at least one more case fan to draw air past the gpu??
both would be interesting to see if that helps? do one at a time of course?? 🇨🇦🤓✌️
Love the video, so easy to follow. How much RAM can this take?
As far as I know it can take up to 64GB of RAM
does this have an upgraded PSU? I heard the 1050 Ti has too much power and the most it could take is a 1030 LP . I also seen a 1030 LP video where buddies computer wouldnt run it. If it runs a 1050 ti I'd probably put one in it.
This was the standard power supply as far as I know. It is 180W and a 1050Ti would require around 75W. This leaves enough for the rest of the components.
Hello friend, i have this machine but it's the Tower version. My question is, can i change the CPU cooler into a Tower cpu cooler (ID Cooling SE 902)? Thankyou

Is it possible to add an additional disk to this motherboard ?
There are 3 SATA ports, so you could add up to 3 disks if you can live without the DVD drive.
le processeur et un Intel i7 7700 K ou T et en LGA 1151 ??
It's a regular i7700. The K-version is not interesting in this PC as it doesn't allow you to do tweaking/overclocking anyway and the T-version should work but is slower (as it is intended for low-power/difficult cooling situations).
Hellow bro Is it possible to replace the power supply with a genereic one ? And put 4 pieces or 8gb ram

Well technical documentation said all the 2 pcie 16 have only 35w max. That's not true so, it deliver true 75 watt since you plug a 1050ti
True, best way to test is to just try it (and hope it doesn't go wrong :) )

The most consuming graphical card it comes with from the factory is a GT730, which takes around 40W. A 1050 Ti takes around 75W so that should be within the safety margin.

The PC spec in question details are: HP Elitedesk 800 G3 Small Form Factor PC. Intel Core i7-7700 processor. 16GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM. 500GB x2=1tb SSD
Windows 11
Samsung 860 EVO NAND-SSD. Optical disc drive. Built in 1Gbps ethernet port. No wireless card but Wi-Fi dongle. Integrated graphics
There are 2 free RAM slots and the motherboard supports 64GB RAM

if i change to news pc case, which motherbpard should i buy?
A GTX1650 low profile is what I would recommend. I had a 1050Ti in there and that worked without any issues.

hola Héctor, quisiera saber si pudiste ponerle tarjeta a tu equipo?
Would a 1660 or 1660ti fit in there? Would a conventional PSU fit in the chasis as well?

As you are limited to low profile GPUs and limited in power provided, a GTX 1650 would be the best choice. This will result in proper performance for the games you mentioned as well.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure it is a low profile card so it physically fits in the machine.
What card would you recomend for a g5?
Depends which version you have. As far as I see, the SFF has only a 250W power supply so maybe something like a GTX 1650 low profile would work . Hard to tell as I haven't looked very much into that newer one and no hands on.

hello. Doest it throttle the 1050ti as the pciex 16x slot is rated at 35w?
Hmm, that's interesting and indeed the spec sheet lists a maximum of 35W for the x16 slot. I didn't have any issues with power limitation as far as I could see.
@@jensdbe in simmilar pc it was some lenovo sff with i5 4570 also with 35w limit on the pciex and it was deffinately throttling the gpu, it was low profile gtx 1050 non ti 2gb. But it worked without any problems, just crippled gpu performance.
