This was one of the easiest builds I have ever done. No compatibility issues or funky settings issues. This was the closest I've had to a plug and play build. I estimate whole project was less than $400. A great deal for a decent gaming machine. Thank you!
Good guide and info. A lot of people out there want to upgrade these office computers as it's all they have. Most info out there is geared towards people with custom gaming PC's with no space considerations and high wattage PSU's. Showing what can be done with a little SFF PC is valuable.

Thank you for this guide bro! I really thought these sff's could only be compatible with old series gpu's, I just now found out that there are low profile gpu's for small form factors ❤️ really helped me a lot! 💪 keep it up
Just picked one of these up for $160, except its 16gb ram, i5 4590, and a256gb SSD. Pretty solid. I like the mini tower cooler in the G1 vs the G2 top mounted fan. As the tower one blows the cpu heat out the back. I just replaced the cpu TIM and installed a 1650, nice little PC. Can't beat it for the price.
I scored the same machine recently (2023) for $32. It came with the I7 4790 but I swapped it into an HPZ 230 that had the I5 4570. I swapped CPU's because the Z230 has a bigger 400W PSU. I'm still impressed with the 800 G1 SFF as it is still very fast with a SATA SSD and 16GB of ram. Was going to sell it but think I'll keep it instead. Didn't know these machines could be fitted with a decent (for the day) graphics card that requires no power cable. Thanks for sharing the tips on performance settings for the CPU.
I know this is an old video but there are a few important steps that were left out of this upgrade that should be addressed before you put it back into service. When upgrading these older OEM systems being that they are several years old, you should pull and clean any fan and or CPU cooler and change the thermal paste on your processor. Also cleaning out any dust that has accumulated elsewhere inside the system (i.e the power supply). If you are using a used or pre-owned GPU, replace the thermal paste on that as well. Also, these systems are not WIFI capable so you would need to add either a USB or PCIe WIFI add on card if you need that capability. I upgraded an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF with similar components (a GTX 1050ti 4GB LP DDR5 card) but installed 24GB of DDR3 RAM instead of 16GB and it made a huge difference in system performance . This 4th Gen system outperforms a newer HP ProDesk 400 G4 7th Gen system with virtually the same components inside. That really surprised me. The Passmark scores for the 800 were over 4400 and the Prodesk 400 were over a thousand points less.
Would this application work in a ProDesk 800? I am not using this for gaming but I need to upgrade my graphics card to meet the requirements for Adobe Bridge and the current PhotoShop. Will I need a new power supply?
@@diegomaterano6352 These older systems just can't handle that kind of stress even after stuffing all the upgrades you can in them. They are limited by the BIOS and the bus speeds. Yup, the 1650 is limited to the 75Watts coming from the PCIE slot and the CPU will pull a max of 95watts so your looking at 160W total. Through in the remaining system components and peripherals and you’d probably be looking at a little over 200 watts
Flight simulator is really demanding but the 1650 meets the minimum and recommended GPU specs so I would assume you may see around 60FPS at 1080p but I have not tried on the card
Temps for me get up to mid to high 70's on the graphics, but even in the low 80's the card will be fine. It could also be an option to double side tape in a small fan (92mm or under) as intake or exhaust.
Great video! I just got this PC delivered. I'm not a big gamer, I was wondering if this PC could handle music production and video editing with that graphics card?
my desktop back in 1999 with Pentium III processor and 1Gig of ram can handle music production and video editing... so, this kind of question could only be asked by someone very young...
Hello When purchasing my HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF (i7-6700, 16GB, 1TB, Nvidia NVS 310), I didn’t pay attention to the 200W power supply. The use of my PC is oriented towards image processing (2D), animation and video editing (School capsules). Today I am asking for your help to find a solution to my problem so that I can use a low profile graphics card (Nvidia gtx 1650, 75 w) without risk: - Is there a more powerful power supply, the same size and compatible with the motherboard? - Could the Nvidia Gt 1030 (30w) encode my video (FHD) better than the integrated Intel 530 chip? Sorry. This is only a Google translation. Thank you and good luck.
There’s no replacement power supply that will work with the hp motherboard, but a 1650 should still work but it will definitely be cutting it close with a 200w Psu rather than the 240w. And yea the gt1030 may draw less power and will definitely perform better than integrated graphics. Hope that helps
Nice video! I have a HP Elite 8300 SFF. Will this graphics card support a 24" 4k Wacom Cintiq pro drawing tablet? It works with the i5 but I can't utilize the 4k resolution.
hello great review. purchased a similar hp elitedesk 800 g1 sff but i5 only and no ssd. where can I get those screws for the ssd mounting under the hard drive?
if any of you have this or a similar small fourm factor 4790 id reccomend if your handy at it doing a undervolt on the 4790 as that will help keep its temps lower with no drawbacks. but thats only if you want to spend the time as undervolting is pretty much overclocking but in the opposite direction so you still have to do all the stress testing you would if your overclocking it
@Michele De Luca use throttle stop if your on a laptop or locked down desktop. Some of the newer 11th and 10th gen laptops have undervolting locked though because of plundervolt exploit
(just posting this agian just to make sure that you get it and answer) The one I have has a 240watt power supply, do you think with the 1650 graphics card would be too much??? I used a PSU calculator online from Newegg and it siad 247 watts, but I would rather listen to the professionals. Is your PSU the same and have you had any wattage problems so far? Do you think I should buy the 1650 and if not which should I buy?
Does the year of the pc matter or do all the versions of the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF have the same architecture inside ? I mean will the GTX1650 fit in any HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF version regarless of the year model ?

The 1650 will only draw up to the 75Watts available from the PCIE slot and the CPU will draw a max of around 90Watts for a total of 165Watts and with a hat drive and other system power usage you’ll probably be looking at 200Watts total and the PSU is capable of 240w so it should work perfectly

I have the same system and have just ordered 1650 LP after watvching your video, should i plug out the cable from the CD/disk reader to have more available power from the power supply for the 1650, or is that a bad idea?
if your doing your own from scratch build by a 10 or 15 dollar oem key. sometimes there can be extra hoops to jump through but unless you just have an extra 100 usd to burn its worth it. or live with the water mark and use windows for free. but I def agree on using these cheap pre builts to make a decent gaming pc

Hi! I own a computer like this, and I would really like to put a decent video card in it, I'm thinking about this gtx1650 or the new rx6400, I would like to know if it is compatible with this computer and which one is more worth it.
if you are gaming on PlayStation and just using the PC to stream using OBS, then the 4790 should be fine for that. The gpu will help slightly, but doesn't have any NVENC support to hardware encode the stream. You may be better off spending slightly more to get a PC with a 1660 Super that would be capable of NVENC hardware encoding.
I haven’t been able to test live streaming on a 4790 but I would think at low settings you should be fine, but you may have some lag spikes with 4 cores and 8 threads. And I would probably recommend a 1660 super for the hardware encoding, but a 570 would save you quite a bit of monwy
Will I be able to fit in a normal rx 6400 itx? Since you used a low profile GTX 1650 and not many people really showed a video without a low profile card.
You shouldn't have any issues with the 1650 as long as it is low profile. If you are looking for something used you can always go for a GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti and maybe save a bit.
I purchased it off of eBay with the i7, but definitely more i5's on the market. Even with the i5 your definitely not going to sacrifice too much in game, it will mainly be a multi tasking hit with the lack of hyper threading.

Yup, the 1650 is limited to the 75Watts coming from the PCIE slot and the CPU will pull a max of 95watts so your looking at 160W total. Through in the remaining system components and peripherals and you’d probably be looking at a little over 200 watts
@@TechRoundUp can I run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020? With this card?
Flight simulator is really demanding but the 1650 meets the minimum and recommended GPU specs so I would assume you may see around 60FPS at 1080p but I have not tried on the card
do you still using the same config with no problems with the GPU temp?(like 80ºC or higher). Thanks for the video helped me a lot :]
Temps for me get up to mid to high 70's on the graphics, but even in the low 80's the card will be fine. It could also be an option to double side tape in a small fan (92mm or under) as intake or exhaust.
@@TechRoundUp I'm using a hp pro 6300 sff, so unfortunately I can't put a fan on it :[
Great video! I just got this PC delivered.
I'm not a big gamer, I was wondering if this PC could handle music production and video editing with that graphics card?
It might be slightly limited, but that should be a more CPU intensive task, so you should be fine with the i7 cpu
@@TechRoundUp thank you
my desktop back in 1999 with Pentium III processor and 1Gig of ram can handle music production and video editing... so, this kind of question could only be asked by someone very young...
Hey man gotta question just got this pc just wondering if it was okay to use while standing upright
Yeah definitely
Hello
When purchasing my HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF (i7-6700, 16GB, 1TB, Nvidia NVS 310), I didn’t pay attention to the 200W power supply. The use of my PC is oriented towards image processing (2D), animation and video editing (School capsules). Today I am asking for your help to find a solution to my problem so that I can use a low profile graphics card (Nvidia gtx 1650, 75 w) without risk:
- Is there a more powerful power supply, the same size and compatible with the motherboard?
- Could the Nvidia Gt 1030 (30w) encode my video (FHD) better than the integrated Intel 530 chip?
Sorry. This is only a Google translation.
Thank you and good luck.
There’s no replacement power supply that will work with the hp motherboard, but a 1650 should still work but it will definitely be cutting it close with a 200w Psu rather than the 240w. And yea the gt1030 may draw less power and will definitely perform better than integrated graphics. Hope that helps
@@TechRoundUp Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Can't we replace this PSU with that of the EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF?
Si le quiero poner una fuente de 500w ocupará un adaptador??
Nice video! I have a HP Elite 8300 SFF. Will this graphics card support a 24" 4k Wacom Cintiq pro drawing tablet? It works with the i5 but I can't utilize the 4k resolution.
Yes a 1050 or 1650 will support 4K output,
@@TechRoundUp Thank you! I went ahead and ordered the 1650.
Really great video and informative. Why do you have your pc upside down?
Good catch, it was the only way to get the power cable to reach haha
they all have windows key in the bio's , you can upgrade to 11 . Its 21$ today for a i5 at ebay and with a GPu Ram you can play PS4 games
hello great review. purchased a similar hp elitedesk 800 g1 sff but i5 only and no ssd. where can I get those screws for the ssd mounting under the hard drive?
Hello! I have the same pc and i would like to also buy a 1650. How much watts does your psu have and would a 240W psu be enough?
What is the max GPU that could be used in this unit? As far as memory size. What pin count should I look for?
The max, is the one in this video, the GTX 1650 with 4gb of VRAM, and must be the low profile model
if any of you have this or a similar small fourm factor 4790 id reccomend if your handy at it doing a undervolt on the 4790 as that will help keep its temps lower with no drawbacks. but thats only if you want to spend the time as undervolting is pretty much overclocking but in the opposite direction so you still have to do all the stress testing you would if your overclocking it
@Michele De Luca use throttle stop if your on a laptop or locked down desktop. Some of the newer 11th and 10th gen laptops have undervolting locked though because of plundervolt exploit
bro this video literally came in hard clutch bro
Would this upgrade ( plus added RAM ) run the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 ?
(just posting this agian just to make sure that you get it and answer) The one I have has a 240watt power supply, do you think with the 1650 graphics card would be too much??? I used a PSU calculator online from Newegg and it siad 247 watts, but I would rather listen to the professionals. Is your PSU the same and have you had any wattage problems so far? Do you think I should buy the 1650 and if not which should I buy?
Answered on the other, 240W will be enough
Does the year of the pc matter or do all the versions of the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF have the same architecture inside ? I mean will the GTX1650 fit in any HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF version regarless of the year model ?
What graphic card best for i5 ,4590 4th gen with same cabinet and mother board tell me a gaming graphic card under budget
Hi there , I did all the steps & all works great much faster but in the crystal disk test only reads 420 write 390 mbs
Set to uefi etc etc , boots up in 10-15sec
Running crystal disk mark 8-0-5
Seems fast but measures wrong huh, any ideas?
Setup crystal disk setting same as yours too
Will the stock power supply be enough to handle a graphics card of this power? what is a recommended amount of power for a system like this
The 1650 will only draw up to the 75Watts available from the PCIE slot and the CPU will draw a max of around 90Watts for a total of 165Watts and with a hat drive and other system power usage you’ll probably be looking at 200Watts total and the PSU is capable of 240w so it should work perfectly
I have a question would a 17 cm graphics card fit
I have the same PC , but I can't afford a new GPU....can I buy that GPU you have?
what kind of powersupply did urs come with? mine only came with a 230 watt
Is my HP EliteDisplay E231 Monitor compatible with this? Already watched this vid 5 times just to make sure before I buy the gpu as this is my first time doing anything related to pc building being a poor high school student. Love the content!
Everything should be fine as long as you get a LP graphics card. Good luck with it and sorry for the late reply
i shouldn’t have any trouble moving the sata ssd in my current rig to this, right?
Nice vídeo bro, Apolo From Angola.
Thanks Apolo
@@TechRoundUp how did you get a 1650 in it with the stock psu? mine couldn't handle the 1650
The 1650 low profile is the only card that will work as it doesn’t require any external power
@@TechRoundUp idk how mine broke my power supply
is there a difference between the GDDR5 and the GDDR6 versions of the GTX 1650 LP?
just picked one up for my HP EliteDesk 800 G1 that's going into a modded arcade cabinet, and I was curious if the versions are different? thanks!
Slightly faster memory but very minimal if any FPS gains
@@TechRoundUp ohh okay gotcha, so no differences as far as it actually fitting into the machine right? haha sorry i’m dumb with computers
Nope same size 🤣
@@TechRoundUp haha awesome glad to hear that. thanks for your help my man!
Pregunta amigo, tengo esa misma PC, pero noté que en la descripción de la tarjeta recomiendan tener una fuente de 300W y esta es de 240W la fuebte de poder. No hay problema con eso?
I have the same system and have just ordered 1650 LP after watvching your video, should i plug out the cable from the CD/disk reader to have more available power from the power supply for the 1650, or is that a bad idea?
It doesn’t really matter, if the disk reader isn’t being used it won’t use power
@@TechRoundUp thanks
My asus 1650 is slightly off meeting the bracket. I really need help how can it be too big? My pc is also a hp elite desk 800 g1
if your doing your own from scratch build by a 10 or 15 dollar oem key. sometimes there can be extra hoops to jump through but unless you just have an extra 100 usd to burn its worth it. or live with the water mark and use windows for free. but I def agree on using these cheap pre builts to make a decent gaming pc
Is the PCIe 3.0 or 4.0? I would like to upgrade graphic card for F1 game (8gb graphic)
i dont know if you will see this or not, but do u think it can run editing software like filmora or divinci, and do u think it can run minecraft and roblox and regular settings?
Yeah I don’t see that being an issue, I would run resolve on this PC in the past and although it can be a little bumpy of a road, it works pretty smoothly overall. You shouldn’t have any issues with those games either
I realize I'm necroing a video but do you think an 800 G1 with the 4590 would be worth doing this with at this point in time or better to just start from scratch? 280 in with 2 monitors and a 1650 LP runs 295. So sub 600.
Hey thanks for the vid i was gonna buy a ps5 but now that i know i can get an insanely good pc for a low end price is amazing is this wasy to do or hard?
I am Ik the same position as you lol I’ve already bought a pc but am looking for a graphics card... in all the pc is the way to go bro
Just got a hp Elitedesk 800 g1 but its luckily no sff build. Does this give me more options on the gpu?
when i plug in my monitors to my new graphics card (gtx 1060) my screens stay black in my device manger the device wont show up when im conneted to my regular hdmi port. how do i get my computer to recognize my new gpu? im on a elitedesk 800 g4 twr
hello you need to install drivers at nvidias official driver website.
Yup, you’ll need to download the nvidia drivers
i just brought my partner a Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF i7 4790 and got a 1650 to put in it
Do I need to disable integrated graphics card or just leave?
What's a good comparison since this card is discoed
also what kind of ssd will fit in this setup i have this exact model?
I went with the 4790 S version for lower TDP (84W vs 65W) because of the anemic 240W PSU
hey im not very computer savy but im trying to get my young son an inexpensive gaming pc, where he can play fortnite, Minecraft, roblox and use his oculus and would this comp be doable for this games i actually found this one model -used

great video, but this was the good old days when a gtx 1650 was 150 rather than 300 to 500 or a million bucks. Just a year ago. UPDATE: Late Nov 2022 The GTX 1650 in this video is down to $155 on Amazon.
i regret not getting it
I KNOW RIGHT. I JUST CHECKED AND SAW ONE FOR 900$ WTF
Questions: Are you using the PSU that is already installed in it? Can you install GTX 1650 LP while the cpu is i5-4590U?
Hi! I own a computer like this, and I would really like to put a decent video card in it, I'm thinking about this gtx1650 or the new rx6400, I would like to know if it is compatible with this computer and which one is more worth it.
My pc is hp800 g1 tower i5 4570 ram 8gb which gpu is best for 4k gaming on it
Which of the ebay listings is the best in ur opinion for the price and most storage and ram
One of the 8300s is probably the best bang for the buck at $150,
Fantastic design box
Is this good for streaming with obs, elgato and ps4? I’m new to all of this
if you are gaming on PlayStation and just using the PC to stream using OBS, then the 4790 should be fine for that. The gpu will help slightly, but doesn't have any NVENC support to hardware encode the stream. You may be better off spending slightly more to get a PC with a 1660 Super that would be capable of NVENC hardware encoding.
@@TechRoundUp can I live streaming valorant or csgo without getting fps drop?? I have intel i7 4790 maybe buying 1660 super or rx 570
@@TechRoundUp what do you recommend for me to my processor gpu good for livestream without fps drop low settings
I haven’t been able to test live streaming on a 4790 but I would think at low settings you should be fine, but you may have some lag spikes with 4 cores and 8 threads. And I would probably recommend a 1660 super for the hardware encoding, but a 570 would save you quite a bit of monwy
If you come by an HP Pavilion 500 with the same cpu on ebay would be awesome!
Will I be able to fit in a normal rx 6400 itx? Since you used a low profile GTX 1650 and not many people really showed a video without a low profile card.
The same thing for hp prodesk 600 g2 sff?
Hi, can i use a gtx1650 in my HP elitedesk 705 g3 sff with amd pro a12-9800, or can you recommend me something else?
You shouldn't have any issues with the 1650 as long as it is low profile. If you are looking for something used you can always go for a GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti and maybe save a bit.
Can you fit the dual fan in the HP Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF?
Did you upgrade the to I7? I can’t find any elite desk with a i7 just the i5
yeah i cant find it as well
I purchased it off of eBay with the i7, but definitely more i5's on the market. Even with the i5 your definitely not going to sacrifice too much in game, it will mainly be a multi tasking hit with the lack of hyper threading.
Here’s one link, should be others as well www.ebay.com/itm/143570299693
there are i7s on amazon
i found an elitedesk 800 g1 with an i7 4770, 16 gb ram, 500gb hard drive on ebay for 150 bucks shipped. had windows 7, and i upgraded it to 10 for free. you just have to watch ebay and be patient. i was watching for about a month. You can also search goodwill, state agencies selling surplus, and look for machines coming off lease. im going to put in an ssd for the operating system and the gtx 1650
Hello, a question is 4 or 8gb? probably yours is 8gb,
but you can give me a fps specification in fornite with 4gb and I am thinking of buying an Msi because I want the cheapest
8gb, so not sure what the 4gb FPS is, but I wouldn’t go with less than 8
Best video ever
Thanks!
Nice Video, I want to upgrade my son's EliteDesk 800 G1 but it has a 240W psu, I have already upgraded to to a 1030 which runs fine, do you think the 240W psu will run the 1650 ?
it will run it, but i really don't recommend it.
Has the 1030 given you problems with 240w?
@@Jose-kb7gk it ran fine with the 1030, I’ve since upgraded it to a low profile 1050ti and it has had no issues so far
