    You didn't include the one game I ever had (and I think it was one of my first video games ever). The Power Rangers Zord fighting game. Where you basically fight 3 monsters, Zed and then Ivan Ooze.

    One of the few childhood obsessions I was such a huge fan during the Mighty Morphing era.
    Part of me wants to just go ahead and marathon the whole fucking franchise, but my god...it really doesn't look like they took much of a break over the past 20+ years.

    8:25 But it did have a Two-Player Megazord Fighting minigame that can be done through a password. The SNES MMPR game is actually one of my favorite beat 'em ups.

    After everything is said and done, what I remember the most out of this video, having watched it many months ago, is the part where every ranger got the same word XDXD It's just so funny!

  • @GeekCritique

    I get a LOT of comments on this mentioning that the SNES game has a 2-player mode. That's true, however, it doesn't invalidate my point. That mode is unlocked with a code, and consists of a player-vs-player battle mode. It's a bonus minigame. My problem with the SNES version is that it's a beat-em-up with no multiplayer. The beat-em-up portion, regardless of the code, has no multiplayer mode.

      The problem that I have is how you praise the game gear version yet bash the SNES version. Yeah, it doesn't have a multiplayer, but of the two games the SNES game stands on top. You never mentioned the zord battles at the end either, and it was very well implemented.

    I had both the Genesis and the SNES versions as a kid. Over 20 years later and I still play the SNES version to this day. The Genesis version I think I revisited once maybe 10 years ago. Sure there's no Green Ranger, but the overall gameplay is just more fun. And yes, the music's better to. Now if only it had the music from the show like the other Genesis PR game has.

    So, if you love the Power Rangers and the genre it's from, the game Chroma Squad is a MUST PLAY for you.
    I know this is an old video, but I sincerely hope you'll play it. You'll love it, it's about some stunt actors who decide to start their own sentai show.
    You build your studio, have "fights" that eventually take an interesting, more serious twise.
    It's excellent.

    I was born in 84. I cant remember much about that decade except for what I watch now. But I can remember all the shows I watched as a kid in the 90s. Power Rangers being my favorite. I had the toys, 2 megazord toys and played the games. But stopped watching halfway through turbo (cant remember why). Only recently have I started watching it again on Netflix (up to Zeo). Last year at a comic convention I bought some vintage toys from the show. Including an original automorpher pink ranger (not the best of condition but got it for $2), a red ranger figure from the movie and 2 figurines of Billy and Squat. Plus a recently made white ranger

    Can't believe I've only just now stumbled across this video and its sequel. This was a very well made video, sir. And props to you for having the earlier front-loader Sega CD. That's a hard piece of tech to find. Those MMPR games were so much fun back in the day. My favorite was always the Genesis version (still have it, too!). I always hated how short the Scenario Mode was, though. A good player can clear it in about 15 minutes. 2-Player VS was always sweet, and of us gathered around the Genesis inevitably always unlocked and played as the Evil version of the Green Ranger.

    • @GeekCritique
      @GeekCritique  7 лет назад +2

      NitroVisioN Thanks! The front-loader is one of those things I was lucky enough to pick up before it got rare. I found it, with a Genesis and all the pack in software for about $35 in 1999.

    This was good! Thank you! I’m currently in the process of rewatching the original mighty morphing power ranger series, and it made me want to play the SNES game (the only version I owned/played as a kid). Since i don’t have it with me, watching reviews on RUclips is my next best option. I definitely remember playing a multiplayer mode on the SNES version I had (both as a kid and as an adult!) Love your review and upbeat and humorous reviews!

    I got MMPR on SNES for my 5th birthday(maybe a bit later, I was born in 89). I'd had a SNES since I was like 3, but it was the first game I had ever asked for. Also the first game I ever beat, which is funny, because it was like, a month before I could get past the first level.
    It's definitely the game that sparked my life long love of gaming.

    There was an zyuranger famicom title but out by Bandai in Japan. .powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Kyoryu_Sentai_Zyuranger_(video_game) more than likely Bandai America used the title as an base for the power rangers NES game. But the sprite was accurate to the prop and we saw the sign in mmpr when the zyuranger stock was in use. The boom comic even kept the sign in there rendering of rita's base.

    Never was into Power Rangers as a kid, but I do remember having a lot of friends that ate it up. The only Power Rangers game I remember much is "The Fighting Edition" for SNES since a buddy of mine had it. Don't remember playing it much except to watch him bust through the story with the Zords. That was pretty cool.

    NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD! lol. i'm gonna have to find an emulator and play some of these again. unless my brother actually still has them. thanks for reminding me that i used to love the now-way-more-disney-themed power rangers. the MMPR days weren't exactly pg-13 action movies, but at least we had ROCK, and GOOD songs in the show. Dino Thunder did a damn good job of bringing some of that back tho.

    Plus that face you made at 0:25...that was very smart.
    The frames on the video are very VERY good too! What camera did do you use? (Plus editing thing to make it 60fps)
    Um...why are there so few female viewers?! Like, do gamer girls not use youtube or something????
    Have you heard of/watched Kamen Rider Dragon Knight? It's pretty similar to Power Rangers (and isn't long) and I watched that as a kid. You might like it.
    I'm a bit suprised you got this out so quickly. Keep up the good work! :)
    (Why doesn't this video have 18 likes?)

    • @GeekCritique
      @GeekCritique  8 лет назад +2

      +Alienrun Thanks, I had fun making this one. I've had this episode in mind for over a year, and I knew I had to do it before 2016. xD My camera is a Vixia HF R500. It was the first piece of equipment I got once Patreon started coming through, and yeah, it shoots in 60fps.
      I have heard of Kamen Rider! It's sort of a sister series to Super Sentai in Japan, and Dragon Knight was adapted for the US the same way Power Rangers is. Actually, there's a crossover movie between the two!
      As for the female viewers... I'd say it's the same reason my age demographics skew the way they do. Look at how few high schoolers (13-17) watch TGC.
      The majority of my fans were, like me, kids in the 90's. Most of my content so far has covered the games I grew up playing, meaning these videos will resonate well with people who shared my experiences. Video games in the 90's were still very much seen as a "boy" interest. Nowadays, happily, just about every woman I'm friends with is a gamer. But most of my female friends didn't grow up playing them. Some have told me their parents would try to dissuade them from gaming back then because it was "for boys".
      The result is that there's a much smaller demographic pool of women who grew up playing the same games I did, and thus less women who might be interested in my videos.

    Minor point, but Power Rangers for the SNES had an Up+Attack that did the combo finisher for all rangers except Kimberly, who shoots her bow. Not that it changes much, because her bow attack is hilariously weak.

  • @TKDBoy1889

    Even if they didn't follow the story, the SNES PR game was a solid action game that was faithful to the source material. The music was pretty dang good and I thought it was actually fitting, the action streamlined but fun, AND you got to play as the Megazord in the last two stages.
    I honestly think people critique the SNES Power Rangers game for the wrong reasons. Muscular Pink Ranger is a deal-breaker? Why is everyone obsessed with this?

      I like Zyuranger all right, and it did come out on DVD in the US earlier this year, but it's really not considered one of the great series. My favorite one by a mile is called Gokaiger, which actually might be my favorite television show, period. It was the 35th anniversary season, and the characters can transform into ANY of the previous teams: ruclips.net/video/DW24CLGM_C4/видео.html

    • @StevenUlyssesPerhero
      @StevenUlyssesPerhero 8 лет назад +1

      +ADaviii I might be biased since it was my first Sentai, but I really do love Zyuranger, and find that it actually holds up really well.
      Shout Factory also put out Dairanger, the Sentai that the Thunder Zords and White Ranger came from. It's also good, but it's kinda weird, and in my opinion it kind of shits the bed right at the end. I've got my fingers crossed that it at least sells well enough to get a release for Kakuranger (The one that gave us Ninjor, season three's Zords and the Alien Rangers.)
      I definitely recommend anyone who likes Power Rangers to get into Sentai, especially if you're interested in the production side of the franchise.

    • @GeekCritique
      @GeekCritique  8 лет назад +4

      +StevenUlyssesPerhero Agreed! Yeah, Zyuranger is fascinating to watch if you're a Mighty Morphin' kid, just because of how different it is from what we grew up with. It provides a lot of explanations to things that didn't really make sense in PR, like why Tommy was always unjustly getting detention or losing his communicator so he'd have to show up late to the fight in season 1.

    I saw the game gear version at a pawn shop last week, it's gone now, if I'd watched this first I would've gotten it.

    I had the gamegear version, and man, I played that game so much it apparently caused the cartridge to be damaged. It won't work anymore.

    That would explain why the kids in Zyuranger asked the Ginnie for a new video game and got a system which could play Mega Drive/ Genesis Games as well as PC Engine/ Turbografix 16 Games....?
    Only game i know for sure is Zyuranger for the Famicom.
    Is it weird to suspect that SNES Power Rangers borrowed Sailor Moon's Game Engine?

    I loved Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a kid, but like PokeMon, it's one of those few childhood franchises I grew out of. I chock it up to both Properties having the compulsive need to introduce new characters and character designs. I know that makes me a dumb Gen 1'er, I just don't have it in me to follow PokeMon or the Power Rangers anymore.

    No mention of the Dream Mode (in the 1 player battle mode, you can only fight certain characters. In the Dream Mode, you fight them all, including a mirror match) and Level Select you unlock when completing the Story Mode on any difficulty in the Game Gear Version (and lose when you turned the power off)?

    chances are the "street fighter clone" is a port of a game based off of the japenese version of the show. In the final episode they beat Cyclopsis and defeat Rita or as she is known in Japan Bandora.

      +Thomas Zulli Nah, I checked, it's not a port, and was never released in Japan.

    IIRC the SNES game had passwords for 2 player mode, but only with the zords and final bosses.

      +IneSanity Just looked up a password and tried it out, and yeah, you're right. I don't think I've done that since we rented the game 20 years ago! What a weird thing to do, hiding a minigame as the only 2-player mode, though come to think of it, Mega Man 7 did the same thing.
